  1. Good job Aawsum! Over the past 2 hours I managed to add xml files to all the GIFs I have made so far. Don't be suprised if the links to the previous files don't work. I renamed them to the same standard that Alban uses. "(Set Number).set.gif" and "(Set Number).set.xml". Please test them and give me a bug report through the PM messenger. (I am refering to all of you Eurobrick train fans... not Aawsum in particular). Once the Brickshelf folder is public you can find them here http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=400149 (I also put this link in my signature) It was much easier than I had thought so anyone else who has made some GIFs should give it a try. I ended up not needing the help file for the baseplates so far (but I have no doubt I will at some point). I will try to make the tutorial tomorrow.
  2. Ok, this is what the final index will look like. TheBrickster has given it the green light as well. I just sent him a few more questions concerning the thread itself and as soon as that is sorted out I will post it in a dedicated thread which only I will be able to moderate for the time being. I have included various bits and pieces of input from all of you, and peeron to make this structure. I hope you like it. If you have GIFs under construction, please send me a PM so I can list them. In the mean time I had my first successfull .xml attempts this morning so I will finish off the rest of the XMLs that I owe this weekend and make a video tutorial covering the basics that you will need for your baseplate based models (it was much, much easier than I thought it was going to be). Although we can still make changes later, if you have any more recommendations for the index, this would be the best time. I will delete the list below as soon as the index thread is made public. Have a good weekend! EDIT: I have just made a new BlueBrick folder and renamed the files on Brickshelf so some (my) links posted below won't work any more. The final index will have the correct links. You can get to the new files (including xml), through the link in my signature. EDIT 06.09.09: the Bricklink index can be found here .
  3. Ok everyone, I have completed the BlueBrick index as far as possible. I just sent the final script to the Brickster so he can have a look at it. Hopefully we will have our pinned thread quite soon. I still need external GIF links from some of you guys so that I can include you in the list. Feel free to send me a PM if you like. Right, a long hard week has passed and I have a lot of XMLs to make this weekend. Time to get some shut eye. Thanks again for all your support. I hope you are all enjoying this as much as I am. Not a problem! I sent you a PM reply. The GIF looks great with the updated baseplate.
  4. That looks great! Thanks! I see you added a vehicle and a minifig too. Perhaps that is the way to go. Should we retro fit the other GIFs with them too? What do you think? I just wanted to make a link to your GIFs in the index but it apears like you you haven't got it linked to a site where they can be downloaded from. You could add it to your Flickr photostream if you like. EDIT 05.09.09: Nevermind, I just noticed the img source in the script...
  5. Another nice GIF! You just need to change the baseplate to 6100p02 in MLCad though. I was actually half way through making that one (it has been in the PDF for a while). So let's all agree to use and also check the "under construction" section in future so we don't do double work. Aawsum it would be great if you could send me a PM with the 2 or 3 models which you would like to do next so I can put them in the PDF until the index is up and running. Let's focus on the XML files now too. They are an important part of making the GIFs user friendly. We should also make a group decision as to whether we do or do not want to have the vehicles and minifigs on the set GIFs before we make any more. It adds realism, but also takes longer to do. We should have one standard for all. Alban, it would be good if you could also give input on this. 22:30 PM and I just got back from work . I will try to finish off the index tomorrow evening and get my XMLs done over the weekend.
  6. Hello Brickster, yes you've got a good point there. I will try to come up with new group headers this evening. I will have a look to see how peeron has organized their set index. It might be good to make a structure that people are already familiar with. If any one has the time to check that out by this evening please post the headers in this thread and I will make a new list based on that. If you guys have any other recommendations please post them here.
  7. That is a real coincidence, I found that one on Peeron over the weekend and downloaded the instructions so I could make it in CAD. I had never seen that one before. I am looking forward to seeing the GIF! I have that fire station! It's a real classic. The new GIF looks much better! I will be adding my police station 381-2 (1979) to my todo list. I have also been wondering whether to include the vehicles and minifigs on the GIFs. I have left them out so far. What does everyone else think!?
  8. Hello all! This is a test post to see what the new BlueBrick index page for parts and sets could look like. I have left out some information which is currently being kept in the PDF file we have been using. This is because it isn't possible to make a table in the BlueBrick threads and I wanted to keep the list a concise as possible. The changes include. Part and set numbers are no longer seperated (it wasn't really necessary). File status is now indicated by either having a GIF/XML link.... or not. No link = no file. Those wich are known to be "under construction" will be listed at the bottom of the thread. No comments box (instead we will try to track version numbers and other information in the xml file or GIF file description, but that still needs to be defined). Contributor is no longer listed (the authors details or at least username will be visible on the site/page to which the links are connected, and it can be included in the xml file). Note that the links to the XMLs below are only a test. They do not actually work with those GIF files. I didn't include thumbnails of the GIFs, as I think the height of the image might make the list too long. Let me know if you have any suggestions! 9. Hello all, work has been more busy than expected but I am hoping to start the index this evening. In the mean time I quickly finished off 2 more small GIFs which I started on Sunday. These are more sets that are not yet a part of my 80s collection. As always give Brickshelf 24 hours to make the folder public. I have update the PDF File so you can see what is available so far. Thanks for your feedback Dave! I think the decision is unanimous. Unfortunately this Forum doesn't support tables so I will be condensing the information so that it can organized in a single list. You are right about the versions. I included that in the comments of the PDF, but essentially I think we will have to come up with version numbers which will be in the XML files. Maybe Alban has an idea. EDIT: 09.09.09 These sets have been moved. Please go to the BlueBrick Parts and Set Index for the new Link. Thanks! 6365 Summer cottage 6360 Cottage and wile updating the PDF I just noticed that I forgot to upload this one at some point last week. This one is in my 80s collection. 7835 Level Crossing
  10. As most of the weekend has had torrential rain, I have made rather good progress. Unfortunately I did not manage to do all the ones I had planned (partially because I did one I hadn't planned), but I will try get the rest done by the end of next weekend. As I will be back at work from tomorrow, I will use what time I have left to get the index up and running (did some playing around with that today), and write the XML files for the GIFs I have already done. EDIT: 09.09.09 These sets have been moved. Please go to the BlueBrick Parts and Set Index for the new Link. Thanks! I noticed that Brickshelf took 24 hours to make my last uploads public. So drop by tomorrow if you can't download them now. Please send me a PM if you would like to contribute some GIFs or .XMLs as well. 6394 Metro park service tower: I always wanted this one as a kid because it seemed so huge at the time. This way I made up for not having the real thing. 6380 Emergency treatment center: My only hospital to date. 6542 Launch and seaport: Rembered I have this by chance and did it in CAD instead of some of the other small GIFs I had planned.
  11. Wow! That brings back memories. I have that model too (in storage somewhere). The pictures are great. I will definitely be checking out more of your reviews.
  12. Mine was the 7740. You can't help but get hopelessly addicted if you start off with this one.
  13. I really like what you have done. At first glance one doesn't even notice. That particular train is one of the few I don't have from the 80s but I do have the 7740. I just checked out the instructions on Peeron, and it might be possible to put the battery and an XL motor where the mock diesel electric motor is. To be honest though, I would probably try to put everything, inlcuding the motors in the in a closed wagon like the 7819 mail van so that it doesn't disturb the interiors. It will be interesting to see where you hide the IR receiver! You should check out the Lego Train group at Flickr.com and look at the PF solutions that have been built into locomotive tenders, and US diesel electric engines to get your 3 (6) wheel ideas. Here is one example. The guys in that group really know what they are doing... except for me.
  14. Welcome to Eurobricks Alban! Thanks for making the changes needed to make sure that everyone gets full credit for their work. EDIT: 09.09.09 These sets have been moved. Please go to the BlueBrick Parts and Set Index for the new Link. Thanks! My contribution for today is one set that I own from way back... 7835 Level Crossing ...and one which I would have liked to have but never did so it was fun to build it in CAD 4553 Train Wash I have updated the PDF accordingly and will let you guys know how we get on with the indexed thread. Thanks for your feedback so far! More ideas are welcome. I have noticed that brickshelf is a little slow at making the folders public at the moment so please be patient. If you guys ever get tired of making GIFs, one thing you could also help with is translating the tutorial videos into your native language. BlueBrick already has a quite a few translators, but they will probably be bogged down translating the help file that I wrote. Send me a PM if you are interested. Current BlueBrick languages are: DE, ES, PT, FR, NL and IT. Unfortunately I won't have the time during the next weeks to do the DE version, and my written NL is too rusty (so come on aawsum... you know you want too ). Thanks again for everyones support!
  15. Organizing the BlueBrick thread. Hello all! Thanks to the overwhelming number of contributions, I put some thought into how we could organize things so we can make sure everybody can get a good overview of which GIFs are available, which are in the pipeline, and what is still needed. The Brickster and I sent a few PM messages back and forth last night, discussing a fixed index thread just for BlueBrick similar to that which is currently available for the trains. It would also include a link to the help file (which Alban Nanty will try to complete this weekend), and any guidelines or requirements that have to be met. The Brickster was quite happy to help with this so now I just need to find out what Alban thinks... and what you think!! At the end of the day, this if for you guys. One requirement will be that you post your GIFs on another site to which the index can be linked too (brickshelf etc). So please give me feedback on this idea! One thing that is available right now, is the PDF ToDo list to which you can find a link in my signature. This will give you an idea of not only what has been done, but also what is in process, and what is missing (currently a lot of .xml files). By looking at the list you can really see how much has been contributed in the past few weeks. The other option would be to just use that PDF as an index (with links to GIFs), but then it would only be accessible through my signature. You guys decide. Note that the current list only includes the contributions from this thread, and not the GIFs that are already available in BlueBrick. If there are sets you would like to contribute as a GIF please send me a PM Message with the theme (train, town), set or part number, official description and whether this is a new or an improved GIF for BlueBrick. I will then include you in the PDF list and will mark it with "P" for "in process" so that others know to build something else. Don't give me more that 2 or 3 at a time though, unless you know that you will be able to get them done within the space of a week. If you notice any errors in the PDF file please send me a PM Message to let me know. Thanks! Today I will be adding some more low piece sets. Level Crossings 4539 and 4532 Post Office 6362 Cycle shop 6699 You can find a link to my BlueBrick Brickshelf folder below. The bigger sets will be done by Sunday. They are marked with "P" in the ToDo list.
  16. I believe aawsum is only speaking hypothetically. As the picture you posted shows the train ready built in a nice box... why would one need instructions? Or, would the train be given in bits require instructions and the box designed in such a way that it could also be used to store the completed set (like in the picture). I am assuming that your concept is to give the completed train as a present with the instructions being there incase it breaks or because one might take it apart and want to rebuild it. The set looks fantastic! I also checked out your Flickr post and left a comment. I would love to see more pics of the blue white loco too! EDIT 3 hours later: As it happens the BR50 you see in my Avatar is going to be a Christmas present for friends of mine and your box gave me a fantastic idea as the train will only be used occasionally and needs to be stored somewhere. That only occured to me just now!
  17. ...and one small one from me today... several big ones in the pipeline for this weekend This is the platform that came with train set 7740. My favorite train of all time, so I just had to make this. EDIT: 09.09.09 This set has been moved. Please go to the BlueBrick Parts and Set Index for the new Link. Thanks!
  18. It doesn't make that much difference at this point, but I thought I should give you guys the correct translations for some of the ones that Google didn't get quite right. Of course the official English titles might be different. Especially with 7213 the correct translation makes it clear that the boat is a firefighting vessel, and not an additional boat that might be on fire/need rescuing... and for 3179, it is only a single vehicle and nothing more (the "car repair" translation sounded like a garage, or service center which would have been great ). It really is a shame that they are doing the whole police/fire/rescue thing again but I guess they sell well. Lego 7684 - City Ferkel-Gehege mit Traktor (pigsty with tractor) Lego 3179 - City Reparaturwagen (breakdown vehicle...unlikely to be a tow truck or flatbed recovery vehicle as that would be an "Abschleppwagen") Lego 7213 - City Feuerwehr-Truck mit L
  19. Thanks to Eurobricks user "aawsum" I have made the following improvements to the tutorial videos. Here are the links to the new videos. In addition to the above changes I have used a different video format, and also increased the font sizes where possible. The callouts are much easier to read. Make sure that "HQ" is selected at the bottom right corner of the video window. Tutorial Part 1 Tutorial Part 2
  20. Yup, it appears like my parts database was old. Alban doesn't send the parts database to the contributors with every update. My mistake. It is up to date now. Thanks for pointing that out. Here are my contributions for today. I decided to go for some "newer" models too. EDIT: 09.09.09 These sets have been moved. Please go to the BlueBrick Parts and Set Index for the new Link. Thanks! A new version of the freight loading station 4555 Intercoastal Seaport 6541 Railway station 7824 I will post some more over the weekend.
  21. Thanks for your contribution!
  22. ... and the last one for today, the 6372 town house which was one of my favorites at the time. more will follow tomorrow EDIT: 09.09.09 This set has been moved. Please go to the BlueBrick Parts and Set Index for the new Link. Thanks! That set is from my dark age. I hadn't realized they had dark gray roads as well. Your choice of color was absolutely right. I guess you could make a GIF of the baseplate to add to the BlueBrick road parts too? Thanks for your contribution!
  23. Here is another one of mine. The 6378 petrol station. Aawsum I noticed that your road is a very dark gray was it like that in the set? I noticed that even though I selected light gray parts in MLCad, I am still having to lighten the sets in photoshop so that they look similar to the parts that are already in BlueBrick. EDIT: 09.09.09 This set has been moved. Please go to the BlueBrick Parts and Set Index for the new Link. Thanks!
  24. Oops! Yes you are right I did forget to mention it. Luckily it is quite recognizeable. More will follow shortly. I have asked Alban for support concerning the .xml files.
  25. Well, I didn't get around to it until now, but here is my first contribution. Now I just need to figure out the .xml part. EDIT: This is the 7822 railway station. EDIT: 09.09.09 This set has been moved. Please go to the BlueBrick Parts and Set Index for the new Link. Thanks!
