A bit of team work. I had the idea and Freebee did the implementation. I would say you should give Freebee the hug as ideas are nothing without implementation and the GIFs look great! Now all we need is a 12V transformer and we're sorted! Who needs real Lego anyway? Panda, you have plenty of time to get the de-coupler done. Let me know if you want me to put it in the "under construction list" for you. Aawsum, thanks for the NL translation for the video tutorials! I still owe you the callouts for tutorial 3. I willl get them to you ASAP. Alban is indeed thrilled with all the effort people are putting in. I think it is a great feeling when a project one starts suddenly has such a dedicated fan base. A note to all contributors: I have just put a ToDo/Priority list for the 1.5 release at the bottom of the BlueBrick index page. I will update it when ever necessary. Please send any feedback concerning the list or any questions you might have to me in a PM message. Thanks!

Cool! I don't think I have seen 167 before. I just updated the index. Sorry it is taking me a while. Work is manic. I just sent an email to Alban asking about a release date. I figured 3-4 weeks which I hope will be enough for all of us to get the XML help file sorted, finalize the testing on the XML authoring, get all the GIFs nice and uniform (matching grays etc.) as well as adding vehicles and minifigs etc to things we have already done... while also having enough time to do non Lego related things ( can't believe I just said that) Are we missing any important track pieces? Panda9001100, how are you getting on with your de-coupler 7862? Need a hand? Seeing Panda's massive line of 12V controllers and switches I was even thinking of making GIFs for them (and perhaps 9V too) but they not available in the LDraw library. Any ideas? Perhaps MS Paint (thinking of cusaeng's GIFs which look good). I will try to get back from work earlier tomorrow and answer some PMs. Thanks for all the hard work you guys, I have no doubt many Lego train fans out there really appreciate it.

Yes he means the terminals etc. Like Alban mentioned, he would like those old Track Designer GIFs re-doing as well. I already have half finished CADs for that one lying around from way back so I will finish those off. I sent a PM to Freebee last night. Not to sure about the track pieces. Perhaps those can be improved too?
-
That's a good point, I just noticed that. As long as the margins are correct the connection works fine, but track does end up on top of each other. I see FreeBee has already started to modify his. I will try to do mine tomorrow. Nice work on your new GIFs Aawsum! I have updated the Index.

Wow that is impressive! Are there any more where that came from? Looking forward to seeing his next creation.

I also think that classic space started phasing out in 82 but the sets up to 87 still had loads of charm. It isn't very precise though as many ideas and parts carried through right until 87. I think my last space set is the Robot Command Center (peeron 6951-1) from 1984. That also still had the classic blue/gray and trans. yellow parts which I associate with "classic", but I think that is simply because those are the sets I grew up with.
-
I saw the original version of this too. Very nice additions! How about making it gray/black version. I think that would look great as well.
-
Yup, that is exactly the kind of MOC I'm talking about. I have seen that one recently (not on Brickshelf... somewhere else). It is amazing! Flickr/Mocpages User 2x4 has some amazing micro scale ST models. Check them out here
-
I quickly built these ones this afternoon. The XML file is included. It might take a while for the folder to become public as I just uploaded the files. Enjoy! GIF XML : 6930-1 Space Supply Station I actually got this set back in the early 80s... GIF XML : 920-2 Launch Pad {non-U.S. version of 483}

I am a fan of SW and ST (with the exception of DS9 and Enterprise). I think most of the comments concerning the scale are right. I hadn't even thought of that. There are very few prominent ships or other vehicles in ST that would make for realistic and playable minifig scale Lego sets. I think the ST themes are best left to the MOC experts. There are some incredible non minifig scale interpretations out there.

Now that is cool! Wow, when I think of all the classic arcade games that would look good the same way you did that one. Are you planning on making any more?

Hello SciFi fans! I used to be a big classic space fan and it occurred to me that a project that I am currently supporting in the Train and Town forum might be useful and fun for you guys too! The BlueBrick layout designer started off as a tool for train fans to prepare and test their track layouts virtually before setting it up for real. Thanks to some serious support from the Eurobricks community, who have provided GIF images of their favorite town sets, it is now more of a town and train layout designer. As Lego Space also had a mono rail, and the Bluebrick Software has monorail tracks, I was wondering if you guys also want to add GIFs so that you can also benefit from this program. Of course you don't have to have a Monorail in your layout. You can also just use it to plan the location of the sets you have... or create the layout you always wanted but never had. Here is an example GIF of classic space set 6970 that I just made. I made the required XML too. Check out some classic space examples below. You can check up on the progress so far in the BlueBrick discussion thread and you can check out the full list of set GIFs that Eurobrick members have donated so far in the dedicated index. Just browsing through the last 3 pages of the thread will give you a good overview. To get you started I have made video tutorials which you can find on my youtube page and you can also find a detailed PDF help file on the official BlueBrick website, which is also where you can download the current 1.4 Version of the program. The GIFs in the Eurobrick index will not be added until the 1.5 release. If you want to donate some GIFs you will be able to put your authoring details in the XML file that accompanies each GIF and of course your GIFs will only be used in the next BlueBrick release if you send your written permission to Alban Nanty who makes the software. I am looking forward to hearing from you guys soon!

Wow, now those are some real classics! I was looking at those on peeron the other day while responding to the "favorite train station" thread. Send me a PM listing of any future sets that you are planning on doing so I can add them to the "under construction" category in the index. I will add your GIFs to the index in a minute. I will be using Photoshop CS3 to sharpen the images and correct the coloring but you can also use the gimp which is similar (and free). I think that is what Aawsum uses. Thanks for your feedback on my re-worked GIF! I think the imporant thing is that we try to get the baseplates a similar tone of gray or green as the ones that are already in BlueBrick. Looking forward to seeing more classics from you soon!

Here is a new GIF for you guys, I hope you like it. I won't be making anymore for a while as I will now spend some time putting vehicles and minifigs in the GIFs I have made so far. I will also be improving the image quality of the GIFs and try to get the colors more uniform. GIF XML : 7823 Container Loading Crane Here is my first attempt at a re-worked GIF. Let me know what you think.

Civilian My favorites listed in order. I own the 7822. I will either buy or get the parts required to build 7824 at some point, and my younger brother has 2150. I prefer it in Red, although the yellow 4554 does stand out. 7822 Train Station 7824 Train Station 2150 Trainstation Cargo My favorites listed in order. I never owned, but will definitely build 4555 one day. I own 7838 and 7839. The early 4.5 Volt sets are really nice too but lack the playability compared to the sets that came later. 4555 Freight Loading Station 7838 Goods Loading Terminal 7839 Car Carrier Platform

Chocomel! Now that brings back memories from childhood. I will have to buy a crate of the stuff when I am in Brussels over Christmas. Never realized they had a promotional set. Thanks for that contribution!

Hello all, a few days have gone by and I just wanted to check if there is any more feedback concerning the video tutorials? Thanks for the contribution Aawsum. That is a seriously rare set, and it would be interesting to compare it to the one Richie mentioned. I see you added vehicles again. So far there has only been positive or neutral feedback concerning these additions so I think we can make it a general rule that we will add vehicles and minifigs. we just have to agree that we add them to the sets we have already created before BlueBrick 1.5 is launched.

I needed some distraction after a tough day at work so I made a mini model. GIF XML : 6592 Vacation Hideaway The index has been updated.

Yes Sava makes a great interpretation of this train. I will definitely give it a try one day. Thanks for the pictures!
-
Really nice! Very playable, nice details and great color combination!

I just updated the index (my PM messenger was on fire today), and I have also included a link to the new video tutorial which covers the basics needed to add GIFs and XMLs to BlueBrick. You can watch it here. Make sure you watch it in HQ format. It is still a work in progress. Please ignore spelling mistakes etc. It took much longer to make than I had thought so I didn't have time to polish hit off, but I wanted to get it out there so you can all see how easy it is to do. A final version should be available next weekend, and I might do an advanced version at some point (but first I need to become advanced myself ) Hi Panda, perhaps my BlueBrick video tutorials can help . I just finished the basic tutorial for GIFs and XMLs. Let us know if you need more support.

Very nice! The aging is quite subtle. This would add realism to any layout.

REVIEW: 7720 Diesel Freight Train Set
missouri_bb63 replied to BillytheKid's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I voted "above average" for this as at the time this was most definitely an above average set. We are used to more from models these days but I still think it is adorable. I never owned one but I might build it as a 9V at some point. It has a real classic feel to it. -
I grew up with 12 Volt and I can definitely understand your interest in having all the controls that came with it. My brother had 9V and I never managed to get into it in the same way. The drawbacks that people have posted here are correct as far as the maintenance and reliability is concerned. I also found the 12V track to be very fragile after years of being clipped on and off the sleepers and need to be replaced regularly which will get expensive too. The clips on the sleepers are equally fragile. When buying motors you should also check to see if they have the rubber o-rings for the wheels and what condition they are in. After a while they dry out and break. If you are not intending on having a large layout with lots of trains, the general maintenance isn't an issue however. Of course I must warn you, that once you have started it is really addictive. It will turn out to be a very expensive hobby... but a fun one . Of course 12V is only going to get more expensive, so if that is what you really want, you should start now. I am guessing you have already done so, but if not you should look into regional adds in newspapers or regional websites other than eBay or BL to get cheaper prices. Price is controlled by demand and with eBay and BL being in a global market, and with many shops being in countries with higher average wages than yours, it will push up the prices in your local BL/eBay stores too. Your local BL and eBay stores have to get their parts from somewhere and make a descent profit so have a look around. Check out the adds in your neighboring countries as well. Personally, assuming that once you start building you won't be able to stop, I would go for 9V or PF. If you never start with the 12V controls, I don't think you'll miss them and like others have mentioned, there are ways of making your own. You can find a good summary of the Pros and Cons here Good luck! I am looking forward to seeing you first layout what ever it turns out to be.

BlueBrick Layout Designer: Set & Parts Index Hello BlueBrick users! This is a list of all the new or improved GIFs which you can add to the 1.5 version of BlueBrick which was released on the 12th of October. The list below is looking pretty empty right now. But I have not doubt we will start filling it soon. I have moved the contents of the old 1.4 index into the next post for reference. Almost all the GIFs that were included in that list are in the 1.5 BlueBrick release. and they look great! Thanks for all the contributions. Now for some quick formalities. First of all.. some useful links! BlueBrick homepage and download is here BlueBrick discussion thread is here BlueBrick video tutorials are here ...and now some stuff you should know: Please only post comments here which are relevant to the functionality of the index. This includes dead or incorrect links, or ideas on improving its structure. There is a BlueBrick discussion thread for all your other ideas or questions. If you want to contribute your own GIFs please send me a "PM" message with the official set/part name and number so I can include your set in the "Under Construction" category below. You can post your finished files in the discussion thread. Please don't post them here. In order for me to list/link your files in this thread, you must save your files on another site (e.g. brickshelf.com). I will look through the discussion thread regularly to keep this list up to date. If you need help making the GIFs or XMLs please go to the BlueBrick discussion thread. We'll be glad to help you! (will be reviewed) Remember prefered grid and rotation settings Remember the window size of the previous session. Enable multiple layouts to be open at the same time (multi document), and enable copy and paste between the two. Add-Ons: Add set LDRs (such as buildings etc..) to BlueBrick. (Still need to improve compatibility issues with LDR files during the next releases. After that we can look into how to organize the sharing, distribution and integration of the files.)
