  1. Oh, that... It works perfect! It turns right when the wheel is turned right, and turns left when the wheel is turned left. I don't exactly get what you mean about 'reverse the ribbon' but it works just fine either way...
  2. Do you plan on having holes that open up to other parts of the interior like the cable room or master gunner's room, etc.?
  3. It's been a month and a half since you posted that... I forget things...
  4. all of a sudden this ship seems slightly larger...
  5. Your right. They do seem a LITTLE small, but I don't think you can get much closer to the correct size using lego... though he could possibly do a SNOT mast that's closer to the right diameter, but it'd look rather bricky, if you know what I mean... P.S. Are you gluing this CGH? P.P.S. Also, are the tires on the mast supposed to be iron rings?
  6. I know that iron rings were used, but they were not near that thick. On the Beagle I used 2x2 black plates (not rounded) to represent iron rings and it looks really good.
  7. Wonderful boat! How did you get the sails to be such perfect color? They appear stunning, and really compliment the classical look of the boat. Very close to the real thing. I don't think you could have done it any better! Stunning work once again!
  8. Same here... I've been looking around for string only slightly thinner than that. Any idea what brand it is? Oh yeah, and the ship is looking great too! I might reccomend making the lower mast completely white and lose the stripes...
  9. I'd have to say I like A best, though I think you might look into changing the thickness of the lines toward the top...
  10. Sounds enticing... Also, its ratLINES not bridges P.S. Why's your Username different? Shouldn't it be FIRE-STORM instead of FIRES-STORM?
  11. Modular would be nice... if it were going to be toyed around with... Since the ship is for display purposes, I think a cutaway would work better... I'm not exactly sure what you mean about the plexiglass though... but I can bet you CGH will make a nice plexiglass case AROUND the ship once he's finished.
  12. Admiral Bejuane's Sang Royale has a nice anchor...
  13. The ship seems pretty sturdy... I don't see why there should be any problem moving it... Anywho, how's it looking so far?
  14. I like #9 as well, though I think you should use something other than reddish-brown, possibly navy blue One thing I am certain of, you should have the thick black space inbetween the gundecks Hope that helps!
  15. Thanks... I can see what your talking about with the angle, and I would agree that it would work better if I used jumperplates. (I think I said this earlier) I'm gonna try and use all the different cross section sketches of the ship, convert those to bricks, which'll give me a rough version of the ship, then I'll 'meld' those cross sections together to give me the correct shape.
  16. ummm, I'm kinda going back and forth between whether or not I should buy it. It recieved an 8 from 'the press', which is kinda on the line between buy and nye. Here is a review from IGN If I were you I'd go for it, because I can see your interested in the Napoleonic Era, and likely strategy games...
  17. Since you have such a large stern, you'll want the foremast to be quite a ways forward. As well you ought to move the main mast forward a couple studs to give more room for the mizzenmast.
  18. Yeah... well no one said this would be an easy project! The sketches are from the book Anatomy of the Ship HMS Beagle. Look up 'Anatomy of the Ship' on Google, there are other titles like HMS Victory, USS Constitution, HMS Pandora, HMS Endeavour, Lawhill, USS Essex, HMS Diana, HMS Bounty, HMS Blandford, and HMS Bellona. As well there are books in the series on Aircraft Carriers, Battleships, Destroyers etc. If you were looking for a ship like the forageux, minus the stern it looks a lot like the Soleil Royale. Unfortunately none of the books in the series are much like the forageux, so sorry if that's why you wondering.
  19. I think it would be very helpful if every user had the option of changing the title of their topic and topic description. I've had to do it a couple of times, and I wish I didn't have to PM an admin every time I wanted to do so. It would be nice for us non-admins, and would ease the load for all you admins.
  20. I really like those optical illusion ones! If your interested in extremely insane LEGO art, You'd be interested in this page.
  21. I got a grab bag about a year ago with an indiana jones in it... so... yeah... also, what sucks is that I got a bunch of window panes, but none of the window frames currently in my possetion fit them
  22. still, ten days for processing an order seems like a bit much, which is my main problem...
  23. 1. Thanks! So far there's been few problems, other than getting a nice shape on the hull... 2. I'm building as close as possible to a 1:40 scale, and I've done plenty of measurements to make surethat it is minifig scale. Keep in mind that the HMS Beagle itself is 90 feet from stern to bow across the deck. 3. Thanks! I'm sure you'd agree that Brick built hulls are HARD! 4. I'm glad you pointed that out. It should be SLIGHTLY more rounded, but I find it very difficult to get the shape just right, esspecially since I don't have a billion jumperplates... I've based nearly everything off my book, Anatomy Of the Ship HMS Beagle Here is a sketch from it: As you can see, it is rather V shaped, but not quite like the way I built it, so I guess I'll be starting in on v5 of the hull pretty soon. Again, thanks for pointing that out. I wish you luck with your ship as well! Edit: Here is a sketch of more sections of the ship: The sketch on the right is about from the middle of the hull, and it has a rather 'V'ish shape to it. However, the shape is right in between a one and two plate incline, making it rather hard to get the shape quite right. What I think I might do is convert these cross section sketches into bricks, then 'Meld' them together to give me an accurate shape.
  24. meh, I guess I'll just wait and see how everything turns out...
  25. Thanks! There isn't exactly much 'technique' to it (as in building the hull), other than making a few (as in a lot of) measurements, and fitting a nice curved shape around those measurements. As well, I too really like the Darwin and Fitzroy figs, as they are the first custom minifigs made entirely by me. P.S. Like the new avatar! Thanks!
