[Software] LDD Manager
AndyC replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Absolutely brilliant. It's already proved invaluable for finding pieces within LDD's "interesting" categorisation scheme. The one thing I have noticed is that piece 49668 (1x1 plate with tooth) shows up in the wrong category, 2x2 Plate w. Wheel Pins rather than the Windscreen which is where it should be. Other than that, seems perfect! -

Yeah, sorry wasn't clear about that. You should be able to put square ones in too! -

Another collision issue I think, you can't place things on the two non-hollow studs at the front of the little rowing boat. Quite a few official sets do this, including the recent Loot Island. It should only curve in enough to prevent plates being attached by the hollow studs. The following picture hopefully makes it a bit clearer. -

You are probably editing the wrong version, there is one in a system wide location and one in a per-user location and it's the per-user one you should modify. Type the following into the explorer address bar: %appdata%\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\ and it should take you to the right location and allow you to edit the preferences file.

I just took a random new baseplate and random minifig, was able to clip him on and wobble the baseplate upside down with him remaining very much attached. Your description sounds like a faulty baseplate (or there is something wrong with you minifig of course!)

[KEY TOPIC] LDD 3 bugs and brick errors
AndyC replied to Zerobricks's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Cheers Superkalle, I certainly don't envy those poor developers trying to model all these bricks! The problem, having looked closer, is that the large palm tree leaves don't have holes all the way through the studs the way they should (the smaller ones do). A picture paints a thousand words and all that, so.... And another one I'd forgotten till uploading some models I did earlier. You can put something inside a jumper plate stud, or around it but not both at the same time. Again this is probably easier to explain with a picture. No amount of fiddling will allow you to put both the hammer and cape in that picture on one jumper plate. I'm pretty sure that shouldn't be an illegal combination. I noticed it doing 6665 River Runners, if you want an official example. -

Continuing my theme of all things raft-y and pirate-y.... 6665 River Runners - Theme: Town LXF File Couldn't attach the backpack to the jumper plate at the same time as the tap piece. Will add to bug thread! 6240 Kraken Attackin' - Theme: Pirates LXF File 6235 Buried Treasure - Theme: Pirates LXF File 6242 Soldier's Fort - Theme: Pirates LXF File Minifig's throughout are as close as possible with artistic license on their decals. Minor substition to account for the turntable bug and string/hook is missing. I've also nearly done Shipwreck Island (just need to MOD a replacement for the rope bridge) and am working on Skull Island. I tried the Star Wars Venator, but I think you need more patience (or skill) than I have to get the hinged front piece to fit together! [KEY TOPIC] LDD 3 bugs and brick errors
AndyC replied to Zerobricks's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
The Imperial Flagship does that, having just built my second! So I think that one is definitely a bug. A few more connection bugs I've spotted: 1) You can't place a 2x2 round plate on top of a barrel 2x2x2 (this one), which is normally how lids are done. 2) The palm tree leaves won't connect to the top of a palm tree top (this part) which makes buildable palm trees tricky. 3) You can't seem to clip one of these round 4x4 plates to one of these turntable bases. Am I doing something wrong, or is that another glitch? -

Well that shuttle is an absolute must have (how on earth can it be too big?). I'm also kind of tempted by the AT-AT, despite already owning the original one, you can never have enough AT-ATs. And, maybe I'm in a minority, but I rather like the midi scale ISD as well....

If you look at it closely, it's not actually clipped onto the black 2x2 plate, it's sitting just on top of the studs. Probably as close as you'll ever get LDD to allow you to put it though. -

AndyC replied to Zerobricks's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
No amount of fiddling seems to let that work. It's exceptionally close, could be a LDD issue or could be the use of rather naughty building be TLG. I wouldn't like to say, though I'm also erring slightly on the side of an illegal building technique. -
Never had a missing piece, but I've had a few slightly deformed ones. Lego customer service have always been very helpful and dispatched replacement parts quickly - even for the 4483 AT-AT that I bought MISB last year.

About 75% of the way through 3723 Minifig Sculpture. Not particularly difficult to do, but the layered building instructions are trickier to follow in LDD than I'd imagined. May have to try some smaller ones next, as my main laptop is off to the menders and LDD is a bit of a squeeze on a netbook! Definitely getting better at using LDD though, I'd recommend trying some official sets to anyone wanting to get used to it.- 5,046 replies

D2C Designers requesting feedback for 2012 models
AndyC replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
1. No, first and foremost the model has to impress me. I still haven't been able to bring myself to dismantle the Taj, despite not really having enough room! 2. Individually 3. Sydney Opera House would be nice and I've always wanted to see a big Lego White House. 4. I'd happily sell my granny for a UCS Super Star Destroyer on UCS Venator. Also more big pirate ships along the line of Imperial Flagship would be fantastic.
