oh wow, those are really nice. i love the saloon barkeep the best... the drying rag in his pocket reminds me of the dollar bills in the pocket of the WW banker. really makes the torso unique to the figure. the belts of the gunslingers look nice too... and i love the varying line weights on the jackets... really gives off an official LEGO feel. though, the collar does look a little funny on the gray jacketed fellow. like it needs a thicker line to define it better. and im not sure about the collar on the black jacketed gunslinger... are those draw strings typical of western clothing ??? it reminds me more of a pirate ;-) i could be wrong. *y* *y* *y* posting an image is easy... i would first suggest creating an account on brickshelf.com to host your images. the next step is to link them here.i think there is a "deeplink" tutorial somewhere on this board... that is the process i would suggest for getting your images to appear in an EB thread. - BM

are we crediting the SW line to the entire formation of the AFOL hobby ???i for one, have never bought a SW set in my life... and the only one to peak my interest (at all) was the new MTT. for me, this hobby had nothing to do with SW, and i find it hard to believe that all the members over at classic-castle and classic-pirates (;-)) got into SW first, then jumped over to castle or pirates. maybe it's true, but i doubt it. i do get the impression that SW had something with the formation of this site though ;-) so maybe a lot of members used SW as "the gateway theme" :-P -------------------------------------------------- this topic kind of reminds me of the "which theme do you wish LEGO never made" thread... just because a theme is making the company a lot of money doesn't mean the company should do it... for example, bionicle sells very well, but it also distracts from traditional, brick-and-plate building. well, imagine a hypothetical market in which bionicle made the company so much money that it out-sold SYSTEM style themes to the point where it was in the company's best interest to only produce non-brick-an-plate themes that worked cohesively with this new ball-and-joint system. that would be terrible. so yes, the company has to do what will make money, but i argue that it should do that within the limitations of it products. LEGO shouldn't stop producing toys, because tupperware sells better. there are always other options... licensing (and bionicle) could be viewed as a cop-out. - BM

good point. do not agree with this... WW, adventures, ninja are some of the best LEGO themes EVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i agree, i don't want the indy license either... but wait, why would you care about the adventuers being replace... didn't you just say that the themes from 97-98 "suck"ed ??? :-P - BrickMiner

thanks for the suggestions on the redesign KD... i'll sincerly consider them... although, i was hoping i was about done with the revisions :-D ;-) as far as bring too much fantasy to the WW theme... im not so worried about that. i think my MOCs in the original/official LEGO style can focus on traditional elements, while my custom made graphics of Ghost Town will present the far-fetched WW. however, if you like my original Haunted Pass, then im sure you'll like where im taking the sub-theme currently. all-in-all its not that much different. ------------------------------------------------ yes, since i am redoing them i wan't people to forget about the orginal designs for awhile, that way, when the redesigns are presented, they can be looked upon with fresh eyes... in a way, i want the redesigns to be looked at as MOCs of their own, and not just re-designs of old MOCs.------------------------------------------------ i agree... im almost ashamed of my original Gunslingers Saloon 6758 :-D and to think, when i made it i thought it was prefect... still love the card table trick though.- Brick Miner

the second image looks like a movie poster, is that what it is supposed to be ??? looks awesome either way... especially the sub-title. but wait, now im confused, is this part of the "legends of the WW" collection, or the "grave stone" collection ??? - BM

that waiter torso works surprisingly well for a western fig... BTW, what font are you using ??? i like it a lot. - BrickMiner

well, thanks KD !!! but now that LEGO has released so many "haunted/evil" pieces with its castle 2007 line, i am re-imagining the ghost town concept.LEGO really brought some fun fantasy to medieval life, and i want to do the same with WW life !!! ------------------------------------------------ maybe around halloween time ???- BrickMiner

after seeing the castle 2007 official website, im really inspired to redesign my ghost town.... i'm waiting on pieces from BL for the bridge as we speak !!! and the redesign of the haunted pass(incorporating the new 2007 elements) is almost done, just finalizing the new facade on the hotel.you'll probably see those next from me ;-) - BrickMiner

Consensus of the new themes: Castle and Mars Mission
Brick Miner replied to Berry Syedow's topic in General LEGO Discussion
well, i guess we have to determine what we are calling a LEGO "story" here.character development is definitely is one element of story telling. and character development can happen on many levels... visual character development happens all the time, though, i don't think people would necessarily call it story telling. however, i think it should be recognized as some form of story. this type of character development, i would say, started very early in the development of LEGO products... the pirate line executed visual character development very well. though, it could be argued that LEGO started to visual develop their characters with the castle line. so, the building blocks of character development, and consequently story telling, began far before the adventurers of 1998. ------------------------------------------------ however, i think that most people would consider a "story" the telling of the conflict between the characters, and not just suggesting that conflict. this type of story is not seen in many LEGO lines, and is not seen in either castle 2007, MM or AR. personally, i feel story "happens" way before the conflict is told. i think it starts with character development, and the adventurers were the first line of fully-developed, all-unique characters, each with suggested background stories and interaction conflict, by conforming to known literary archetypes. - BrickMiner ------------------------------------------------ EDIT: i decided to give an example ;-) there is certainly more story development in this set... than in this one... this is an example of how LEGO stories were starting to be told way before narrative conflict, as seen in bionicle. i really like this suggested story telling via character development and theme conceptualization... even the forementioned ice planet 2002 featured this type of story. - BrickMiner -
Consensus of the new themes: Castle and Mars Mission
Brick Miner replied to Berry Syedow's topic in General LEGO Discussion
wait, what ???i could be mistaken, but here in the states we didn't have a storyline for decades either ??? it wasn't until the adventures came out that we started to see development of a full story. and as far as i understood, that story was universal to all counties *wacko* i would assume that other countries, like france, would have seen this transition in product conceptualization at the time of the adventurer's 1998 line. this assumption is wrong ??? ------------------------------------------------ actually, as i am typing this i realize that the UK sets introduced names earlier in the 90's than did the US boxes did... for example, the 1996 wild west set #6755 is called "sheriff's lock up" on US boxes, and on UK boxes it is titled "Sheriff Duke". similarly, pirate set introduced the name of broadside and ironhook, and while broadside's name did appear later on US boxes, ironhook's name was never introduced to the US. so if anything... the UK can be credited with the initialization of character development. id say, anyway. - Brick Miner -
this is the best progress we have made on the saloon delema yet... "sarsaparilla" thats a great idea !!! i could imagine a poster behind the bar advertising the drink... i think that would be more likely for LEGO to do, than having it printed on the bottles.- BrickMiner

:-D i did ;-) - BM

i love the islander princess torso... its prefect. though those white ninja eyes are really sexy... my least fav is the pirate, i never liked her :-X i think is the color combination. - Brick Miner

4 or 6 stud wide cars, which do you prefer ???
Brick Miner replied to Brick Miner's topic in LEGO Town
well, that's a relief :'-) anyway, i've had some time to collect my thoughts into a more organized manner. as it is, i like the scale of car-to-truck-to-"big rig". currently known as 4-to-6-to-8. i would say they are a prefect ratio to one another. however, it seems that once we throw in the scale of minifig-to-car, are ratio seems off. and for some reason, to me, the scale of car-to-truck-to-rig is more important. and the one of minifig-to-car is of less importance. with that in mind (i think im about to repeat what i already wrote) i would be fine with 6 wide cars (this would fix the minifig-to-car scale), however, all other scales would have to be adjusted proportionally. i.e. car-to-truck-to-rig-to-roadplate. so really, to me, this poll suggests a lot more than just 4 or 6 wide cars... its either stick with the car, truck, rig, roadplate scale we have now, or adjust the whole thing. ------------------------------------------------ in the end, im liking what im seeing in the 2007 line (enough to make me buy city sets !!! and that's a surprise, i never saw coming). and i honestly can't say i would like it any better on a larger scale... i guess i would have to see the designs :-D - Brick Miner -

i can't tell by your post, are you just being sarcastic, or do you really think i was suggesting that cars should be 6 studs wide... i can't tell *wacko* - BrickMiner -
4 or 6 stud wide cars, which do you prefer ???
Brick Miner replied to Brick Miner's topic in LEGO Town
:-D but you have have to admit, you have to look at the big picture... cars are just one small element to the entire city line. things have to be cohesive ;-) uniformity and element-relationship is an important factor in conceptualizing a theme... even a low-concept theme like city. - BM -
yes, and im curious what you have that is not LEGO related that would still interest LEGO fans, while being relevant to a LEGO message board ???welcome !!! - BrickMiner

4 or 6 stud wide cars, which do you prefer ???
Brick Miner replied to Brick Miner's topic in LEGO Town
so where does that leave trucks ??? same width as cars or would trucks all go to 8 studs wide ???again, i love the variety thing... id be sad if both cars and trucks AND 18 wheelers were all the same 6 studs wide :'-( - BM -
4 or 6 stud wide cars, which do you prefer ???
Brick Miner replied to Brick Miner's topic in LEGO Town
wow, i actually thought this thread wouldn't have much life... as i assumed 4 wide would stomp 6 wide !!! to me, the variety is great... so im either looking at 4, 6, and 8 stud wide vehicles, or 6, 8, and 10 wide vehicles. i have heard from many that they feel 8 stud wide vehicles are too large for the road plates, so 10 would be out of the question. i voted for 4 stud wide cars, however, i would be up for 6... though, they would also need to make new road plates to match. im just happy that LEGO introduced a town theme i like (2007 line), and i have no grips about it, except that i want to see more !!! so i stand firm in my vote for 4 stud wide. i as well, love the LEGO of the moment !!! - BrickMiner BTW, hinckely are you proposing that LEGO also widen the road plates with this 6 stud wide revolution ???
