i like the viking helmet, and don't have a problem with size, horns, etc... as athos said, if the horns would have been designed to fit plume holes, we wouldn't have them for teeth, claws, etc... so you would be solving one issue, but creating another. doesn't seem like there is any advantage, as we would just be going in circles. i have read that a few AFOL don't like the fact that the viking helmet were horned in the first place. im not sure why... it's not historically correct ??? i think the LEGO vikings borrowed a lot from the "fantasy barbarian" of pulps, etc... and i like that. but not enough apparently, as i haven't bought any of the sets :-D - BM

hey piranha, thanks for linking that website... i have never seen that one before... what a valuable resource !!! i can tell im going to spend hours on that one 8-

there was two floors (not sure which two) which were taller in one building than in the other... i assume the two floors each had an extra 3 feet each :-D - BM

hey, thanks... i had not actually known about this structure before. interesting. yes, i actually like the burj dubai... out of all the cities in the world currently constructing skyscrapers, dubai has a collection of my most favorite.and as far as the height on the burj dubai... i simply can't believe we can construct a structure that tall. its simply awe-inspiring... here is a chart i found comparing the burj dubai to the rest... it really stands out... man, its just amazing... yup, and i don't like the chicago spire either... i think its going to destroy the beautiful cradle of the chicago skyline. i do like the burj dubai, but my favorite super-tall skyscraper is the Kingdom Center in saudi arabia. however, my favorite tower architecture is american 20-30's.-------------------------------------------------- as for all the classifications, terminology, etc... (concerning height) you have valid arguments. it's hard to disagree with any of them. - BM

i think the tendency to "forget" about communication towers is that their is some human fascination with buildings being tall. it's kinda like saying, "shoving a poll up in the air just doesn't carry as much weight as putting a building up there." however, your right... if we are talking "tip height" and including communication towers in the equation, then toronto wins !!! i guess what i should have said was, the sears tower is the tallest building if measuring to tip height, but not tallest man-made structure. i just wish that the new architecture of these super-tell skyscrapers was as enjoyable as what has come before them. i haven't seen a design yet that im really impressed it. though, some of the entries for the world trade center re-build were quite interesting. i think architects are really trying to live up to the imaginary cities that have been created in science fiction since the movie Metropolis. seems pretty predicable to me, though. - BM

LEGOREDO STATION wild west set #6785

yes, it does sound like you are being over the top nice... but i'll take your word on it... mainly, because it's very satisfying for me to read the words "one of my all-time favorite MOCs" >:-) :-P but seriously, it makes me very happy to hear your describe your feeling toward this MOC with "fun spirit." because "sprit" is something that is hard to build... it's not a matter of connecting two blocks together. i mean, you could shove all the advanced AFOL building techniques you want to into an MOC, but that wouldn't equal "spirit." my point is that spirit isn't built by bricks, it's something else. i think that is where my "emotional building" (<==== new coined term ;-) ) comes in. again, i try to capture emotion with my MOCs. i know we have talked about this is the T&T Forum, but i like building the feeling you get from something rather than building the something itself. -------------------------------------------------- thanks. i do think this type of set has extra appeal because fans outside the WW theme can enjoy it too, like train fans. because of this, i would say a WW train set is a more appealing type of set, in general.-------------------------------------------------- wow, i hope Norro reads this too. thanks apache, i'm looking forward to your contributions to the theme.- BM -
im looking forward to it too... considering how horrible the fire station was in 2005, and how great the 2007 one was, im looking for similar upgrade from the 2005 police station.- BM

i like this a lot hinckley... much better than the AR lobster, which looks like inspired this. i really like the arm molds used here. it makes me wish LEGO would have made some type of new piece for the lobster and crab arms. i know most AFOL wouldn't want specific molds, but i think it would have really helped in the case of the AR monsters. i don't like the technic look of the lobster/crab/(and to some extent the)squid. anyway, that was my first sequence of thoughts when looking at this :-D i do like the inventive way the monster has adapted tentacles to reel the victims in. that actually makes a lot of sense if you think about it from an evolutionary perspective. and i really like the large curved slopes used on this back... looks like a exoskeleton. great *y* sounds like this castle story will be a fun, good luck - BM

LEGOREDO STATION wild west set #6785

great !!! than me and brickster are succeeding !!! though, im not sure if brickster holds the same "hidden agenda" as me >:-) in any case, im glad to have inspired creativity... isn't that one of the key characteristics to art anyway ??? ------------------------------------------------ wel, thanks for saying doc... and i mean it. its rewarding to know that my work has not gone un-noticed :-$ ------------------------------------------------ thanks for the link, B... i had actually missed that review. must have been before my (EB) time :-D and thanks for posting that image... you know, this is my only MOC to have used photo reference. i printed out several images from google, and had them in my work space until completion. perhaps this technique of "reflecting life" is why this MOC has been recieved so well by the adult hobby. though, i hope that is not true, as i perfer to reference my imagination when building, not real life. i guess we'll see with my future MOC releases :-/ ------------------------------------------------ wow, you just mentioned all the things i was trying to "nail" with this MOC... i wanted to convey a sense of power from the train, and at the same time add character. awesome !!!- BM -
i know this thread is supposed to be about the MOC... but i can't help but talk about skyscrapers... as they are one of my other interest *wub* i frequently refer to myself as a "skyscraper enthusiast" *sweet* in reference to GMV's post, here is an interesting diagram, showing a direct comparison from the sears to taipei... it does almost seem silly to call taipei "taller." but the fact of the matter is, you can't count the communication towers on top... this terminology is called "tip height." "structural height" is the record that taipie actually beat the sears tower and petronas twin towers on. however, the sears still holds the record for highest livable floor, and "tip height." go USA !!! anyone else want to talk skyscrapers !!! :-D - BM

i see your making some rounds in the H&A forum, tiber... thanks for stopping by here !!! it's much appriciated *sweet* i guess i should return the favor and head into the deep waters of the pirate forum... it's just far too vast, and i want to be able to find my way back to dry land. well, its one of my hidden agendas to "inspire through example" :-D i figure, if i build the best MOCs i can in the western theme, others will get inspired and build in the western theme, and in turn, inspire me X-D that is my tactic for growing the WW fan base here on EB. so keep posted to the H&A forum around september for my next release !!! - BM -
you know, the taipei 101 is one of my least favorite super-tall skyscrapers. i can't wait until it is topped for the world record by burg dubai or the chicago spire. though, i don't like the chicago spire much either :-D as for the MOC, i can't get past the fact that i don't like its real life counterpart :-/ though, i wonder what the scale is ??? one time i calculate how tall a minifig scale sears tower would have to be... i think it was at 33 feets high 8-

not at all, i do stuff out of principal all the time. sure no one will see it, but i know its in there. here is a good example, in my case... its kinda like when i put 12 gold coins in a treasure chest instead of just the standard assembly of 4. sure chest is closed, and it really doesn't matter if any coins are in there at all, but out of principal, it just wouldn't seem right... i know how many are in there, and the more that are in there, the more that chest is worth. so its a good way to represent wealth, the more coins the more valuable, even if none of it is seen in "display mode." - BM

:-D this "real-time" posting is getting confusing :-D

well, you caught me in the middle of editing my post... i meant "plural" not "possessive". see above. i also added some stuff about MOCpages too ;-) - BM EDIT: man, your snappy ;-)

this is an interesting topic. actually, me and my girl friend talk about my hobby all the time... when i tell her about creations i am making i call them M.O.C.'s. i say the letters with a plural "s" at the end. and when i talk about AFOL, i actually say, Adult Fan of LEGO to her. however, BURP and LURP i actually say, burp, and lurp... like hick-ups :-D so i guess is use all the ways possible.. 1) say the letters 2) say what the acronym actually mean 3) and sound out the acronym depending on which one i am using :-D - BM EDIT: wait, i just thought about taking this a step further... so, you guys who are saying "MOC" as in rhymes with "sock" must also call MOCpages, "mocpages" as in rhymes with "sockpages"... all sounded out. that sounds ridiculous to me :-D :-D :-D as i have never though of it that way. i have to admit, if i heard that at BrickFest i would have been like, "what ????????" i like saying "M.O.C. pages."

hey i see your back apache !!! hope you had a good vacation... wait, were you on vaction ??? maybe im thinking of tyger :-D in any case, your torsos look like a great start !!! i really like the gun placement and color combos on the first torso. it does however seem like your line weights are a little inconsistant,... shaky if you will. they would probably print fine, but im just picky about this type of stuff. so don't mind me :-D so, what application are you using ??? -------------------------------------------------- as a side thought, maybe we could turn this thread into a western toros decals thread ??? i wonder if there would be enough contributions ??? anyone interested ??? - BM EDIT: i forgot to comment on your avatar... i love it !!! is that a custom background ??? you know, my first avatar was a calvary fig... but my favorite aspect to the romantasized western genre is gambling... i changed my avatar accordingly.

definitely something we don't need... i complete agree with vadar, if you are looking to have those type of discussions, you should look for a different community to discuss them in. there is nothing wrong with being a part of several different online communities, catering to your interests or desire for topic discussion... but we should be discussing LEGO in here ;-) - BM

:-D :-D :-D well, how many pieces do you estimate "Enterance to the Caves" to be ??? and what would the retail be ??? - BM

i think the new HP "mandrake" heads are a prefect pattern and color for zombies. along with the HP troll, i have a couple western zombies i've made with them. - BM -
ok, that actually makes sense to me, KD. now i understand what you ment ;-) i have always felt that the cancelation of the western theme and the introduction to the adventurers in 1998 was connected in some way... as if the two lines would compete against one another. so in that regard, i agree. though personlly, i think there are far greater elements pulling us away from a new (traditional) WW line. - BM

oh, i forgot to mention, she would have to be in a ford pick-up to be the "all-american" girl :-D BTW, i think this should be "front paged" so we miss no one, and get an accurate reading ;-) - BM
-
thats pretty weak mutley :-D BTW, you'd think the USA would have a ton of southern girls in pick-up trucks with the stars and strips all over them :-D or wait, maybe im thining of the confederate flag :-D in either case, im just not gonna get caught looking :-$ - BM

this will be interesting, i hope most members participate, so that we get an accurate reflection. BTW, thanks for the old link 007... and yoda, are all french women so lovely *wub* - BrickMiner
