I'd buy Mythical Creatures 4894 and Off Road Power 8141. They add up to about the same price as what you were considering. But now you have tons of rare green(red and black are both kinda common), and those nice big wheels.(you seemed to want something with wheels...)

European or American, who is the better builder?
xenologer replied to morris's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Good idea, something fun for us all to look at too! Japan: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery....=MasahiroYanagi I rest my case -
lols, Ya know, here in the USA I dont think I've ever seen this set available. Seeing as how the 2007 Racers are showing up in shelves, maybe it got skipped in this country... a shame too, since they do sound cheaper without the useless plastic tub... Anyone know about a possible/not USA release?

Oh yeah? well I'm American and I just said earlier that the Japanese were better. -

I'd say Japanese my impression is that there isnt much of a Lego market there, making the majority of Japanese builders dedicated afols. Combine that with otaku type personalities and you've got some crazy builders. -
I don't think this year is that great. 05 I got the little Rahkshis, cause they're cute funny little guys, and are made using mostly 'normal' technic bits and techniques. Same situation for last years Matorans, they were pretty good. But these new ones are almost totally custom parts for each character. And just snapped together with like 7 ball joints, no complicated technic rods and connectors to build up anything. They seem to be moving more towards 'action figures' and playability than construction. But you know what? we already saw that with Galidor, and that sucked. -enough said

Nice job. I like the Bridge Wasp, especially the way the wings can fold up. The only thing about it is, it looks like a human vehicle to me, not a Drone vehicle. Mostly because of the windshield and smooth armour plating, the Drones seem to prefer more exposed machinery and sharp spikes... Ryo's Scooter is cool too, with the orange that matches his uniform, i bet he looks like a big cyborg beetle when he's in it. whered you get all those nice darkgreen slopes on the jet btw?? such a rare color, especially for the ones on the bottom.

wondering about those boxes hows the rounded corner work? is that just a lightsaber rod glued into each corner?

Really? here in the 'States queer is considered more politically correct.(might even vary by which state, but here its cosnidered safe for common use) I guess in Euro things are reversed. Sorry, just pick whichever word you like better depending on who/where you are. Anyway, Its funny but Im not Joking. I seriously think a little political cartoon like that is what we need to make TLC realize their mistake.

*shudders in horror at all the minifigs running around with their hands chopped off* Sorry, I've got a strict policy about not cannibalizing minifig arms for use other than as minifigs. Especially when a similar(but stronger) result can be achieved by using some technic half beams and connectors... The lower half of the forklift looks good though. Really clever way you did the bricks sideways to make the wheel wells. Have a construction pic of how thats mounted?

Seriously, I'm half tempted to make a lego video of two guys finding themsevles alone in a town with no females and subsequently deciding to become queer(gay). Put it on youtube, wait for TLC to scream and yell; maybe you get enough publicity that they reconsider their no-girls-allowed policy. (i dont have a camera or the skill though, Any Volunteers??) Maybe its about specialization? one line to appeal specifically to construction, another specifically as a toy.. ExoForce as a shooter thing... etc...

*Looks VERY closely at the pics* Hey! I just noticed something interesting. Look at the very top edge of each box (the part thats not facing the camera) They show how many minifigs are in each one. The main UFO has 5! aliens(more than i thought) and two different astronauts. Very unusually, look at the DropShip's figures: in order i see, what looks like an astronaut, 3 aliens, and another astronaut (but rotated sideways) I wonder why they're pictured differently?(the two astronoauts) the first one looks vaguely like it might be an android...(the outfit is colored differently from the others...)

Its not that hard to remove the shooter devices, since they are generally 1-piece things. and replace with a MOCed gun... So they dont affect my opinion of the rest of the line that much... Anyhows... this is a Poll thread... all these comments should probly be merged into the Pictures/Discussion thread... if a Mod would like to...

Naw, you don't kidnap and 'research' aliens who are clearly intelligent(you'd try talking to them instead). So I'd say it has to be a more sinister reason; maybe aliens taste good or something. Haven't we already seen from Exo-Force that Humans are the bad guys?(keeping robot slaves and quelling the Robot Freedom uprising...) *shrug* looks like it to me, too bad they don't really work... Yup, looks like the bike fits into the flyer, which then launches from the main vehicle. Personally, I would have preffered less Matroska dolls gimmiks, and more effort put into giving the main vehicle Steering and Suspension features... all those technic parts and not one of them doing mechanical stuff....

Looks more like a Halo Pelican to me... the Dropship had no wings and massive tailfins... Not sure why everyone's hating these sets so much... Like I said earlier... they look good, better than anything we've been offered in Space since Exploriens went dead.(I don't count SW as part of Space, but if you do -then yes better than SW too :-P ) Lets put it this way, its Exo-Force, without the stupid Eraser-haired minifigs. And without the story. Thats a good thing. EDIT oh alright, one thing that does dissapoint me majorly... is that the wheels on the drilling truck are mounted on bionicle legs with ball joints. This clearly means, no Working suspension system, and no steering mechanism...

Technic - Summer sets
xenologer replied to DoubleT's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
used to really love the old Mindstorms But Havent given the new ones a glance because they made everything studless. If I don't like making models studless... why would I want my robots that way too?? Lack of studs, hard to mount motors... it just doesn't look simple and fun to build stuff with it... not enough room to experiement and play around when you have to put tons of planning and technic pins into getting anything to hold together... thats my 2cents anyway, on why no one's buying it... -
Im really loving the 'organic' look to the alien ships. Much Much better than the LoM or UFO style stuff. Would be nice to see an alien fig up close though... looks like they are able to use those old LoM stlye sled/gurney things, which maybe a bad sign as to their posability... I guess if it turns out the aliens suck I can just use my Exo-Force drones.... they aren't having much fun in the EF story anyway... The humans stuff looks decent, my main complaint is the smaller sets have cockpits that arent airtight... All the white slopes are a welcome addition to my collection... and I'm Especially loving the old style Space wheels in Orange. Hey Check it out! a Jedi Starfighter windshield, without the ugly jedi decal on it; now you can Actually Use that part for something else! Not sure what those odd cylinder things are... you can see them on the human dropship and mecha/tank Looks like they might be able to hold a minifig or LoM sled thing... Maybe part of the storyline is humans kidnapping aliens for the spacefuel contained in their oversized craniums? (see who's tied to the back of the rover in the alien jet set) be nice to see aliens be the good guys for once.... The air pump stuff sucks though... im skipping anything that uses those...

Some awesome parts in the 3rd one, just look at all those slopes and the large windscreen pieces(in white) second one with the tower is... bleh... I'm not much into base playsets... nothing too interesting in the flying thing either... first one is one majorly huge ground vehicle... noplace near what the old Mega Core Magnetizer ever was... but its still nice to see the concept... I wonder if it has a steering mechanism? naw of course not... wheels that only a mother could love... no clue how id ever reuse those parts...

...Thanks for the info What's a 'Dealers Catalog'? and how can I get one? ( I wonder if TRU would have one... maybe if I pick out the most eager to please new employee and ask...)? Did the catalog specify any release dates for these sets? (Space!) (or does the appearance of a catalog Imply an approximate release date?) and repeat all the Space questions that Snefroe asked... I'd love to know that too... lastly, a general question for those in the know... if TLC hates to leak info, Why do they let specific people like Dealers see stuff early?? Its not like the said Dealer would be able to do anything useful with the advance info like ganer publicity, right, since that would be a Leak. Not complaining mind you, I love Leaks, it just seems to me that it's a bad idea to release catalogs and whatnot like that if you're on TLC's end and are trying to avoid them... I just wonder what their reasoning is...

...? what Gate Assault still costs 30$USD when I look at it... maybe different countries get different sales?

Anyone recall that little chamber Darth Vader sits it? with the odd contraption that lowers his helmet onto his head? Was just noticing Zamor Launchers on brickshelf and thinking about the re-usability potentials... the clawed end of it looks like it might be about the right size to hold a minifig Vader helmet... what you think?
-
I've previously said that I'm not impressed by the direction Bionicle is going... simplified uninspired construction methods, nothing but more custom parts each year... Though I will say that this particular guy... Mantax... the custom parts look like they *might* possibly be used to make a minifig scale Sentinal (from The Matrix)

The Container Transporter I must have, for the green. An innacuracy though is, that it has a hook on the end of the arm, while I belive the real ones are supposed to have a large claw that actually grabs onto containers. Easy enough to mod... Notice that the front wheels are doubled, theres a couple ways to do that, i wonder which one they chose... Edit: zooming in on pics... it would seem that they are using the new version of that wheel, with an axlehole instead of a connector pin hole. Thus the front wheels are probably just stuck on a long technic rod... that goes all the way through the body; meaning ... bad play action when it comes to 'steering'; also easy enough to mod...

Well ... like I said earlier Youve got some really awesome pieces to work with there, really wish I had a few of those... as for criticism... I don't mind blue vs orange contrast, what makes it look bad here though, is the way the two colors don't have an organized pattern; they're just all over the place. If you could separate them clearly, maybe with stripes, or a top/bottom two-tone separation it would really help a lot. Consider making one color dominate over the other, maybe focus more on blue and leave the orange as little detail areas. Secondly, while I'm not one of those crazies who likes to hide every single stud; the surface of the ship looks rather random and bumpy. There are just too many bricks that seem stuck on without a clear purpose. If you could limit surface details to recognizable spaceship parts -this ones a gun, this ones a tailfin, etc, then it would look a lot cleaner. Lastly, overall spaceship shape. Your is basically a cross shape - pointed nose, pointed tail, long wings. at first I wasnt sure which end was front or back... its just not a very distinctive shape. instead of focusing so much effort on fitting all the little bricks all over the place... put more effort into an interesting overall shape and maintain that profile as you build...
