Nerwen leads the elves northeast, she signals the leaders to do the same. Where did Throlar get to? -

Nerwen nodded her head. Thank you, that is clearer. I feel better having a defined goal. Lady Calaryl, I believe you mentioned something that will assist us in communicating and coordinating, despite being separated by some distance? Nerwen's stance indicated readiness. She waited for those who had not signalled readiness to do so. -

Nerwen answers gently. But if a first chance, why not a second, seventh or seventy seventh? No, I have been reflecting on this. And I think you have a crucial point on the nature of forgiveness and redemption wrong. Forgiveness is not a matter of worthiness on the part of the recipient. If so it is merely manipulation on the part of the forgiver, who uses readmittance to community to extract particular behaviors. To say 'there is good in him, I can see it' is meaningless. All moral creatures have the ability to make choices. And all choices effects, some good, others bad. I have previously spoken on the absurdity of measuring the worth of actions solely by their result. Anyway. Forgiveness is about the forgiver not the forgiven. If someone needs to be redeemed, that is, a price paid for their mistakes, for the need to be forgiven it is obvious the cannot do this for themselves. No one says "oh, I forgive me the harm I dealt you.". No. It is the forgiver who says, "I desire restored relationship with you, accepting you retain the ability to hurt me." Barty is right in this. Change in relationships is tortuously slow. Forgiveness once is never, ever enough. It must be given again and again for big things and small. So to say 'you have one chance' is weasely and merely a pretense. Decide. Do you want to form a friendship with the pongcanis or not? If so, go all in. And this all assumes that they are agents capable of moral choices and not simply untamable animals acting on instincts. The color rose in Nerwen's cheeks as she spoke, clearly the fat paladin's words had touched on a sensitive point for her. -

Nerwen turns to Ahvialyn, the brobric elf that accompanied them and said quietly Much as I dislike spying on my friends and allies, I will not go into this battle unprepared. Nor do I enjoy surprises, where an important person keeps information or abilities that could save lives from me out of embarrassment, modesty or fear. Please use your cloak of the Elven spy and give me, if not all the details, at least a summary of the strengths and numbers of the forces at our disposal. I believe, though time is crucial, we have enough for this task. -

Nerwen listened to Boomingham speak, but her eyes were on Barty's face', drifting around behind the pakadin's head out of sight. I am sorry, I do not see how the presence of the men with them changes anything. You have continually referred to them as beasts, and after watching them fight, I see little reason to disagree with you. They are however, strong, and proficient at close quarters fighting. So the question is, how to force them into battle on our terms, where shields can block and bows can strike. Your plan of feigning an opportunity to surrender, whilst cunning, is not suitable for an enemy unlikely to even treat, let alone be caught off guard enough to be trapped so. Besides, if the goal isextrmination of pests, why complicate matters in even pretending that if this dread pirate actually did surrender that we would take him seriously or offer reasonable terms. No, the plan must have more in common with flushing game than foolishly sticking our head in a fell-beast's mouth and hoping he breaks a tooth on our skull. She turns to Arthur, the former 'King's' story having given her an idea. Arthur, how good at the illusion of fire are you? Every living thing fears fire. If you place the illusion of fire on one side of the compound they will move away from it. If you then allow the illusion to be seen for just that, an illusion, they will turn and charge through the flame hoping to catch the trapper. But we shall be ready and cut them down as they do so. And illusiory flame runs no risk of damaging property that we wish to preserve. -

Nerwen heard the words of the leaders that had appeared. Her posture and face betrayed a desire to speak on the topic, but she kept silent, waiting for the others to chime in. Instead she appeared to be counting under her breath as she looked from group to group. -

Nerwen smiled and handed Throlar both bomb and shield May you use your new shield in good health. She then took the shackles off and slipped the boots on again. She sighs in pleasure, feeling the supple leather encase her feet once more. Nerwen then whistles a complex birdsong, threaded with power which heals Ellaria and after that, drinks a grand tonic, replenishing her ether. I do not know. I have seen enough quests to know that sometimes things are not as they seem. I wonder where your friend the paragon has go to? -

They are not going anywhere. End them,! Battle order > Alexander - Pongcanis swordsman A, Boomingham - Pongcanis swordsman A, scupperer > Arthur - Pongcanis swordsman A, darkness (Rodrick's sword) > Nerwen - uses scroll of armour sundering on Pongcanis Swordsman A > Nerwen - Pongcanis swordsman A, magical staff > Saevael - Pongcanis swordsman A, Elven blade Throlar - Pongcanis swordsman A, mourning star Eleryian - Pongcanins swordsman A, Elven Blade Sir Abârlômi - Pongcanis swordsman A Ahvialyn - Pongcanis swordsman Ellaria - Heal self? Targets don't really matter, since while the aura is up, can't hit the other and when down there is only one target. Plus with encourage, almost any hit will KO the first. -

If this is directed at me, I was scum from the start. And that's my regular scum game. I've played 4 games of mafia (witchbreed, bedtime story, Ragnarok now, and C.A.T) and been scum in three of them. Unlike Flipz, I don't mind being scum, I like knowing what's going on.- 109 replies

Heroica RPG - Cruel Angel's Thesis ~ Final Day
Chromeknight replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
I got the sense that the classes were written before being sorted into Nephilim/hero. So no class was 'scummier' than any other. And no class was essential to the balance of the scum team. Sure, combos were possible but each hero should have been 'playable' on their own. Several heroes could 'steal' which might have been seen as scummy. I, as a Harlot could inflict negative effects chosen at random from a list. The black knight could hide, the winged warrior could fly, several heroes could block or cover. The list goes on...- 109 replies

Thanks sandy for all your hard work. What a roller coaster! I alternated between wildly optimistic and wildly pessimistic in the Nephilim thread. Well played LotN, glassing me then dropping that info into the ear of someone ready to listen. My only comment for the moment is... Not enough killing! Moar bodies!- 109 replies

Nerwen sees Throlar fiddling with the colourful hat perched on his head. Fret not Ambassador, the hat works. But it will be of little use here since none of our opponents seem to be immune to anything. Checking everyone was ready, she heard Ellaria speak. Amin hiraetha, I'm sorry Ellaria. With so many friends along I missed your name. Of course you course is wise. Very sorry Sandy! Completely unintentional! Battle order > Nerwen - exchanges Barbarian's boots for Shackles of War > Nerwen - uses scroll of armour sundering on Pongcanis Swordsman B > Alexander - Pongcanis swordsman A, Boomingham - Pongcanis swordsman A, scupperer > Saevael - Pongcanis swordsman B, Elven blade Throlar - Pongcanis swordsman A, mourning star Eleryian - Pongcanins swordsman A, Elven Blade > Arthur - Pongcanis swordsman A, darkness (Rodrick's sword) Sir Abârlômi - Pongcanis swordsman A > Ahvialyn - swordsman B Ellaria - pongcanis swordsman B, ignite fatuus good to go I believe. -

Saeavel notices Eleryian protecting the spy, Ahvialyn. Her eyes harden and she steps forward, ready to show what a true elven shadowstalker could do. Without waiting for Nerwen's nod, from a safe distanceshe strikes at the noisy Pongcanis(b), the one foolishly challenging them all. Battle order > Nerwen - exchanges Barbarian's boots for Shackles of War > Nerwen - uses scroll of armour sundering on Pongcanis Swordsman B > Alexander Boomingham > Saevael - Pongcanis swordsman B, Elven blade > Arthur - Pongcanis swordsman A, darkness (Rodrick's sword) Sir Abârlômi - > Throlar - Eleryian - Pongcanins swordsman A, Elven Blade > Ahvialyn - I should be back before 24 hrs since the battle open post to write in any actions posted between now and then. -

Nerwen made up her mind. She uses the first round of the battle to kick off her barbarian's boot and slip the shackles of war out, readying them to snare the Pongcanis if they tried to flee. Then she read from the scroll of armour sundering. Arthur is right, all of you strike quickly. I shall order the battle when more of you have spoken. Thanks doc. It's the first chance I've had to use them. -

Nerwen turned to see the Pongcanis swordsmen deciding that the heroes weren't to be faced alone. She wondered if the shackles that rattled around in the bottom of her satchel might actually be useful in preventing them fleeing and warning the others. Doc. Would the shackles apply here, or does the passive special do something else other than enemies fleeing? -

In response to Arthur's unasked question Nerwen said in a hard voice, I am certain that the pongcanae will find us wherever we go. You will have your chance to murder more of them no doubt. Especially the weaker and more defenseless ones. It is clear that we are entering a crucial time for the quest. I do not wish to split the party again. We have had plenty of time apart, I would rather we stayed together so that we may be certain none falls alone and are lost. -

Seeing Alexander lead the other heroes to them, Nerwen was glad. Well met Alexander, Ellaria. And I see you managed to pick up the Ambassador also. We have just fought a group of Pongcanae. When we surprised them they had some towns folk with them. They left in the direction you came from. Have you seen them? Listening to their report, Nerwen nodded. Yes, Sir Kadarphazân, though it seems if we are following the humans that were with the Pongcanae, we will pass near the warehouses anyway. As for who should go, it is clear that you are the best equipped to fight alone if needed, since you can leave any battle at any time, you cannot be ambushed and prevented from reaching your objective. Follwing Alexander's directions regarding the tracks of the rest of the Pogs, Nerwen leads the party onward. -

My apologies Arthur. I thought you had said you found two hundred and twenty five, rather than two hundred and fifty five. Of course. ten more gold to Lawerence and myself makes things even. Nerwen shook her head. She was always reminding the dwarf to be bold, be definite in one's actions. But she had merely though about healing the others rather than actually doing it. Nerwen checks her boots to make sure they are on correctly. Then heals Lord Boomingham, Sir Kadarphazân and, if needed, herself. -

Saeavel spoke softly. They called for help before they were silenced. There are certainly more on the way. Do you want us to find a more defensible position? Nerwen replied. Perhaps we had best reunite the party, so we are best equipped to deal with whatever threat this dread pirate is. But first. Let me distribute the spoils. I know you can't use the whip Lawerence, but take it until you find someone to trade it to. Boomingham: 100g, 2 meads, whip Arthur: 100g, mead, potion, remedy Nerwen 100g, mead, potion, remedy Nerwen then checks the player's manual barbarians boots for restoration. She then heals Lord Boomingham, Sir Kadarphazân and herself if needed. -
Umm? The joke is a word play on the homophone minor/miner. Bars generally don't serve alcohol to underaged persons (minors). Though, if I've misunderstood your miscomprehension, do say so.

Tholar walks into Heroica, pick axe over his shoulder. Scheherazade says, 'hey, we don't serve miners here!'
