  1. We don't know yet what they'll do for this one, but so far most CUUSOO / Ideas sets use printed elements rather than stickers. In fact, I think only the first two use stickers, and all the licensed ones (as well as some non-licensed ones) use printed bricks.
  2. The original Ideas submission depicts clever, effective Dalek and Cyberman figures made entirely from existing elements (save for printing of course). It even uses an existing element with new printing to good effect for the Fourth Doctor's scarf.
  3. If it's a new mold, it's still a new mold, regardless of whether it was actually designed for the set or not. That said, it's still possible the hairpiece in the teaser is just an illustration, and doesn't really reflect an actual part, though I'm thinking it does. As to whether this set will launch a whole theme, I wouldn't confidently bet against it. If all the CUUSOO / Ideas sets to date had been revealed at the same time and we didn't already have a theme already released based on Minecraft that was already running before this set was announced, this set is the one I would have thought was most likely to spin off a theme (though there's an argument to be made for considering the first, second and fifth CUUSOO sets together as a sort of theme of their own). It's a popular, beloved franchise and cultural institution, with a huge amount of material to draw upon, and it's currently running and is expected to run for years to come.
  4. Argh, accidental post. Nothing to see here...
  5. I didn't forget; I just thought I was being pretty unrealistically hopeful already and didn't want to throw in too many full-blown sets, although I had also wanted to put in a small Torchwood set. I figured the 11th Doctor would be pretty well represented by not only having him, Amy and Rory in the minifigures collection, but also Clara, Sarah Jane, Daleks, etc. in the other sets. There's just so much stuff in this overall franchise I'd love to see. I mean, I hadn't even included River Song, and she's a hugely important and popular part of latter-day Doctor Who. But then, that's what the second wave sets and Series 2 minifigures would be for... ;) :D
  6. True, that. But I just can't help it. I will be glad to get whatever we're getting, though.
  7. Okay, here's a total pipe dream fantasy of what I'd like to see: LEGO Ideas Set #12 - LEGO Doctor Who: The TARDIS - A TARDIS model, as seen in the proposal, with both a folding exterior and a separately attachable interior (console, etc.), with Creator- / The LEGO Movie-like "2 in 1" functionality: additional parts and instructions to build the interior as either the 12th Doctor's TARDIS or the 4th's. Includes minifigures of the Doctor (4th and 12th incarnations, of course), plus appropriate companions: young Sarah Jane Smith and Clara Oswald, plus brick-built K9; also a couple brick-built Daleks and one or two Cyberman minifigures. LEGO Doctor Who: Bessie - The 3rd Doctor's Earthly vintage motorcar. Includes the 3rd Doctor and the Brigadier. LEGO Doctor Who: Journey's End - A large flagship set, featuring a full interior for the 9th / 10th Doctor's TARDIS, plus a facade of the exterior front, and a portion of Dalek vessel. Includes two versions of the 10th Doctor (one in brown suit, one in blue), Rose Tyler, Jackie Tyler, Mickey Smith, Captain Jack Harkness, older Sarah Jane Smith, Martha Jones, Donna Noble, Davros and three Daleks. LEGO Minifigures: Doctor Who Series 1 - Sixteen individually blind-bagged minifigures, including all the remaining incarnations of the Doctor himself (1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, War, 9, and 11), plus Susan Foreman, Ace McShane, Amy Pond, Rory Williams, Madame Vastra, Jenny Flint, and Strax. That should be a good start... :D
  8. I'm hoping for sets, eventually.
  9. Yes. It's actually a really nice build, and one has to watch the video on the project page to fully appreciate just how well-done it is, and I suspect that excellent design is why LEGO chose it over the other Doctor Who project by GlenBricker and Kaminoan. That's not to say their project is at all bad - quite the opposite, but AndrewClark2 really knocked it out of the park with his version.
  10. She also works as a companion for multiple Doctors, both classic and new (just at different ages herself).
  11. Same here (along with K-9).
  12. I'm confident AndrewClark2 will still get paid and all that, no matter what else happens. If it becomes a whole theme à la Minecraft, he won't get anything for the additional sets, but he will get a royalty on sales of the initial set based on his proposal (plus credit in the instructions, plus five free copies of the set for himself). Indeed, the original proposal was for a set with ideally a couple different incarnations of the Doctor - one "new" (the creator suggested either Capaldi or Tennant specifically) and one "classic" (with the specific suggestion of Tom Baker). I think that's what will happen, for two reasons. First, the Ideas team does try to make sure a final Ideas set does match the core concept of the project people voted for, even if the specific details of the build are different; that means they try to keep the general description and the key features the same. Second, this is just one of two very similar Doctor Who projects that made it into the same review batch. They chose this one over the other one despite the fact the other one got 10000 votes faster, which must mean there's something about this specific project that they're going with, and one of the key distinctions of this particular project is minifigures for multiple Doctor incarnations and companions. I mean, I don't want to count on it and then be disappointed when any LEGO Doctor Who set would be cool, but I do think this (first?) set will come with a couple Doctors - most likely 4 and 12 - plus one or more appropriate companions for each.
  13. Yep. According to LEGO's official comments on the project, it not only got there in just 48 hours, it also caused three server outages in the process. Combined with the fact the set kept selling out incredibly quickly, getting new runs, selling out again, etc., and ultimately led to a whole entire theme, it's apparent there was (and continues to be) strong demand for official Minecraft LEGO sets. Licensed projects do have an advantage in getting votes, since they'll appeal not only to fans of LEGO but also to fans of whatever movies and franchises they're from. OTOH, that's probably offset by their being less likely to get approved than non-licensed projects, since licensing adds an additional layer of complexity and possible obstacles. More licensed projects than non-licensed ones get to 10,000 votes, but then a larger percentage of those get declined. Thus, at the moment, the current mix of licensed and non-licensed projects that have been approved is exactly 50/50 - there are six of each out of the total of twelve CUUSOO/ Ideas projects approved to date (including the three that have been announced for this year but not yet released).
  14. It's doing very well, but hasn't gotten the full 10,000 votes yet. It surely will easily hit the mark with several months to spare, but it will probably take over two months to finish, unless there's some last-minute rush in voting. As far as setting a record goes, at least four other projects have it beat, including Alatariel's Science Adventures which hit in less than two months (less than a month and a half, actually), AndrewClark2's Doctor Who and Companions, which took slightly less time than that, GlenBricker's Doctor Who, which took about two weeks, and mojang's LEGO Minecraft, which took just 48 hours. But that said, yes, that Adventure Time project is still doing enviably well. I'm glad, as I'd like to see it become a set.
  15. If by that you mean there aren't sets for everything in the movies one might like, then sure, but there are still a pretty good number of sets for the Middle-Earth films. There are, what - five waves' worth, released over a three-year period, with promo polybags, convention exclusives, etc., right? That's no small amount. It might not be everything fans want, but I'd say Middle-Earth actually did get a lot of sets. The theme(s) got more than pretty much any other licensed theme ever save for Star Wars, Harry Potter and Superheroes. It pretty clearly did get more sets than it would have if it had been based on one or two movies rather than six.
  16. It seems kind of unlikely there'd be a whole series of The Simpsons minifigures without any actual Simpsons. I think we should assume any new series in the theme will include at least some of the five core family members.
  17. Friends has a third playmat of sorts, albeit not the same kind as those others; it's printed on paper, and is very much like a poster, except that it has a straight-down overhead view of some grass, sidewalk, etc. rather than characters and such. It was some sort of promotional item at Toys 'R' Us. I wound up getting a slew of ones leftover from what I assume was a store event. I'll try to post a pic later. There are similar, simple paper playmats that have actually been included with sets in numerous themes since the early days; I'm sure LEGOHistorian would be happy to tell us about ones from the '60s and '70s. They do also figure in various later sets, though, such as the early 2000s Dinosaurs.
  18. You can get an idea just by looking at it, though. It'll be fairly large - much larger scale than minifigures, or most other common figure scales including the "constraction" lines, though much smaller in scale than, say, the UCS R2-D2.
  19. And Disney Princess, Cars / Planes, Peter Pan / Jake and the Pirates, Mickey Mouse & Friends, Winnie the Pooh, and the various licenses from CUUSOO / Ideas (Back to the Future, The Big Bang Theory, Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, WALL*E, and Minecraft, which is now a full-blown theme in and of itself), plus the numerous past themes, including Avatar: The Last Airbender, Ben 10, Bob the Builder, Dora the Explorer, Galidor, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, The Lone Ranger, Pirates of the Caribbean, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Speed Racer, SpongeBob Squarepants, and Toy Story.
  20. The Simpsons is getting a lot of love from LEGO. Between these new releases and last year's, we now have two of the most iconic locations from the show, two associated cars, and twenty-nine characters (including Snowball II, Santa's Little Helper, and Itchy & Scratcy - 30 if we also count Jasper), with multiple versions for nine of the characters: four versions apiece of Homer, Marge and Bart, three versions apiece of Lisa and Maggie, and two apiece of Chief Wiggum, Milhouse Van Houten and Ned Flanders.
  21. Regarding 10179's sales... I'm not privy to LEGO's internal figures, but it's publicly known they did keep the UCS Millennium Falcon in production for a little over two years. While not as long as some sets, it's longer than average, and certainly suggests it sold reasonably well; had it actually been selling poorly, I'm sure they'd have discontinued it much sooner.
  22. No, actually, I don't think that is supposed to be the point - if it were, they'd be limited editions of a certain number determined at the outset, rather than just selling as many of them as they can like any other set. Yes, because making a new UCS Millennium Falcon totally means LEGO would break into your home and steal the one you have.
  23. And the tommy gun, of course, plus the machine gun used by Col. Dovchenko. Hmmm. What could this one be? With what appear to be yellow shorts and shoes on pink legs, it doesn't seem like it would be from either The Simpsons or the 'regular' LEGO multiverse... Not at all. Lots of us would dearly love to see that happen.
  24. With price inequalities between the US and, well, everywhere else, I could see that NZ pricing equating to around $60 in the US, which I do think is possible for WALL*E as submitted - he looks like he has a lot of functionality, note, and the final set might have accessories like his cooler backpack or the plant; at the very least he should have his roach pal, as shown in the proposal project. Anyway, even $60 would be new territory for Ideas, but still enough of a small step to not be outlandish - indeed, it's probably more inevitable.
