  1. Most impressive!
  2. I haven't seen it brought up much, but I did notice that a while back. The two-stud bases (all of which have unique, character-specific printing) are used for all the playable characters, even those who aren't standard minifigures (such as Unikitty, whose feet are one stud farther apart than a standard minifig's, and who therefore attaches to her base by only one stud rather than two), while all of the "side" builds use the unmarked, four-stud bases, even ones representing characters / creatures (Shelob the Great, K-9, the Dalek, the velociraptor, the Terror Dog, the flying monkey, etc.). One particular thing I noted back when some of the instruction booklets started appearing early on LEGO's servers is that, for all the Team and Level Packs (which each feature two "side" builds), the parts inventories just count both of their bases (the four-stud, unprinted ones) together as "2x" of the same part. This, combined with the fact all the packs' instructions have you build the playable character figures and then go in-game for the rest, strongly suggests to me that there's little or no information pre-loaded on the four-stud bases; they presumably get only what you put on them when you put them on the toy pad for the first time. I suspect one could open up a couple of fresh new packs and mix up the four-stud bases and it wouldn't matter - say if you got the Fun Packs for Wonder Woman and Doc Brown and opened them together and mixed up all the parts, then put together Wonder Woman and brought her into the game, you'd then be instructed to build her invisible jet, and the first previously unused four-stud base you put on would be recognized as the one for her jet, regardless of whether or not it was the one that actually came in her package or the one meant for the Time Train or whatever - just as long as it hadn't already been "assigned" to something in-game. But of course I don't know for sure, yet. I guess we'll find out soon enough...
  3. I've gotten some DUPLO, yes. Not much, but a little goes a long way. One of the LEGO Ideas projects I've had in mind for entirely too long actually will use two or three DUPLO elements to achieve a particular effect in an otherwise all-"System" construction. I personally feel that any LEGO elements can be useful, and that includes DUPLO.
  4. I know many builders here are into just Star Wars, say, or principally Technic, or just the "constraction" themes, or perhaps one or two main themes like this but also picking up one or two others from time to time. I know there are also an awful lot of people, though, who like all sorts of LEGO, and who spread themselves out across as many different themes, building styles, etc. as they can. I'm one of the latter. Star Wars brought me out of my Dark Ages in the early 2000s, but I quickly moved beyond that and threw myself into all sorts of stuff - the Adventurers line that was finishing up with Orient Expedition, City sets, various Studios offerings, a little Life on Mars, etc. As LEGO themes came and went over the following years, I found myself dabbling here, collecting a whole line there, and various things in between for lots of different themes - Atlantis, Bionicle, City, Dinosaurs, Exo-Force, Friends, Games, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, and on and on they go. My collection ranges from five of the Ideas sets, to one of the modular buildings, all the Winter Village sets from 2009 to 2014, most of the sets for The LEGO Movie, all the retail sets plus the Brickmaster set and most of the "extended line" stuff from Indiana Jones, and most of the blind-bagged Minifigures, among many, many other things. My MOCing plans include everything from small standalone builds to huge layouts in everything from City to Star Wars to classic Space to Castle, and while most of my attention goes towards so-called "System" stuff, I also dabble with everything from constraction and Technic to DUPLO, and I can't wait to start really exploring Mindstorms. I even have projects percolating in mind for LEGO Ideas submissions in themes ranging from City and Friends to Star Wars and Indiana Jones, among many others. Who else here can't just choose a theme or two and stick with them, but instead loves to try a bit (or more!) of everything?
  5. Are you talking about me? I take the position all LEGO is worthwhile, and I have nothing against action figures. I'm just not crazy about having to leave the LEGO Star Wars forum to discuss LEGO Star Wars sets. I don't even have an issue with them being discussed here; they clearly fall into this realm, too, as they're constraction figures. I just don't get limiting all discussion of them to just this one forum, since they obviously fit both. To me, it would make much more sense to just discuss them in both places, and not move topics that arise over there into here.
  6. I posted my own initial wishlist for this theme over in the main LEGO Doctor Who thread elsewhere in this forum way back in March. This thread looks like a good place to repost it, so if I may be forgiven for quoting myself... As noted, that's just what I was thinking of for the first wave or so, out of what I hope would be a multi-year theme... :)
  7. So, if someone wanted to discuss and argue for the virtues of the original X-Wing than the later ones, you're saying they should start a new thread for it?
  8. I must say, it's pretty annoying that all Star Wars construction figure discussion must be confined to the Action Figures forum. I get the reason for it, but it's still inelegant and annoying. Oh, well.
  9. To be honest, assuming there is a difference in how digital models do vs physical ones, I think it must go the other way if at all, depending upon just what level of success you're talking about - after all, out of the thirteen CUUSOO / Ideas projects approved to date, I believe just two were represented primarily with digital renders rather than physical builds, and both of them were by the same submitter. Nearly everyone who's gotten a project all the way through (i.e., had one become a set) has used real, physical bricks rather than digital renderings (even though one of them works for a computer animation studio and had a project based on one of their CG productions, while another represented a videogame company and submitted a project based on their own digital entertainment). Looking not at what just gets lots of votes but rather at what actually gets approved, it's not at all clear there's some sort of digital advantage - quite the opposite, if anything. That said, if digital renders do have an advantage, the image quality discussed above is surely a factor, but I think another consideration must be the build freedom. LDD offers the opportunity to present one's idea as purely as possible, free from constraints about what bricks one has, in what colors, with what decorations. Digital models let one use whatever brick in whatever color is most appropriate for a concept, not just whatever brick one happens to have that is "close enough" (if that), and that could make a difference in whether a concept model is appealing enough to garner votes.
  10. I'd love rolled ones, but don't consider the folds a deal-breaker by any means. I've managed to get two of each so far. For the latest (Episode I) I made only a single qualifying purchase, but then my wife got one for a totally non-Star Wars purchase, so I've managed two of each so far. I'm a bit sorry to see others have had such trouble getting the latest one, especially when I was able to get one more than I "should" have, though. Though the promotion is stated to run into October with an Episode III poster that month, I half suspect there'll be a surprise continuation in November, with a LEGO-ized version of the final release poster for Episode VII.
  11. I believe the rule is more about the project proposals not being allowed to use new pieces. There's no reason LEGO can't use new pieces in an Ideas set of it wants to; they just don't want a lot of Ideas projects that require it.
  12. I must say, I do like that new canopy element. It'd be great if it were split and hinged where it is on a "real" X-Wing, of course, but it's still a great improvement over the old classic element used on previous, OT-era X-Wings, and I hope I'll have a means of getting enough of these new ones to outfit a small fleet.
  13. Just went to TRU's just-after-midnight Force Friday event and picked up the free promo brick.
  14. Whatever one thinks of TLG giving their City cops guns and whether or not it's a good idea, I do think that at the very least, giving them guns should be a lower priority than giving them donuts. C'mon, TLG, where are all those donuts that should be in our squad cars and stations? Our men and women in blue and black can't live on coffee alone...
  15. They actually made a Mosasaurus as part of the Dinosaurs theme in 2001. While I'm not crazy about rebooting Indiana Jones just yet, I do think it'll happen eventually - with or without Pratt, and with or without doing one more movie or so in the classic continuity (for me, hopefully with), and however the franchise goes on I'm sure it'll be accompanied by LEGO sets. Whether they include new sets based on anything that's gone before might hinge upon whether the new movie(s) is/are reboots, though, though even that's not certain. They did in fact release a minifigure of The Collector, but it was an SDCC exclusive, so it's quite rare, unfortunately.
  16. Did you just look at the images, or also watch the video? It shows off some features that really should be seen in action to be fully appreciated, and if the final set incorporates those, it's easier to understand a higher price (assuming it has that too, of course).
  17. ... that we know of.
  18. And they're a bit expensive if one is getting them just for the parts, of course, especially for ones without any exclusive elements (which I believe includes both the Eris and Nya packs, though I could be wrong). Without the game to use them in, one can't even access the instructions for the side builds yet. From what we've seen, all the instructions for add-on packs have actual instructions only for the playable character figures; the instructions for the accompanying vehicles, gadgets, etc. are in-game only, though of course most of them are small and simple enough that many of us should be able to just figure out from the pictures how they're built.
  19. I hope there might eventually be a Velma Dinkley Fun Pack for LEGO Dimensions. She's easily my top pick for the next character from this franchise that should be a playable one in the game.
  20. They might have been referring to just the Ideas set, but we know for a fact there will also be two sets for LEGO Dimensions, making for a bare minimum of at least three sets. And I do suspect we'll get more.
  21. Well, Portal is in fact happening, albeit in a very limited capacity as far as actual physical brick sets are concerned, so far as we know.
  22. City may not be officially a theme in the game, but both the gamer kid and the Defender unit in this pack will prove useful as-is for lots of people's city layouts (and I'm sure there are people who build in the Tiny Turbos scale who can make use of both this little vehicle and lots of the other ones from various packs). In-game, I'm very much looking forward to playing LEGO-ized Joust. That alone will make this worthwhile.
  23. In the U.S., $1184.58 (or $784.62 if you're happy with only one of the five versions of the Starter Pack). :p ;) I assume you're just referring to the six Level Packs? In seriousness, $784.62 is the total combined MSRP for one Starter Pack and one of each Level, Team and Fun Pack. So far.
  24. And look at the game logos on the package! Defender, Robotron 2084, Joust, Gauntlet, Super Sprint, Rampage, and Spy Hunter all confirmed!
