Unlike many people, I feel that Space Police 3 is actually a largely successful theme, with the exception of one or two sets. I personally am really a fan of the vehicles in the smallest two sets, and the vehicles in Space Truck Getaway, Hyperspace Pursuit, and the Galactic Enforcer are all superb. I even like Squidman's pitstop to some degree - sure, it's overpriced and the land vehicle is horrible, but the rest is actually rather appealing to me (especially the neat play features and the other two alien vehicles). Even the impulses are decent - I really love that robot dog in the K-9 Unit. Gold Heist and Max Security Transport are the only truly disapointing kits to me, and the former is the only one that I would truly consider bad. Max Security Transport is not as good as most of the other kits (mainly because it was change heavily from the prototype), but it still is decent, and the transforming function is neat. Overall, I'd give the Space police an 8/10 for it's sets, and I truly feel it's the best Sci-Fi line since the dark ages. On the flip side, I'm afraid I don't really see what is so interesting about Mars Mission, and especially why some people consider it to be better than Space Police 3. Sure, wave two was drastically better than wave one, but the more I look at it, the more I feel that it was still a disapointment. Mainly, this is because I don't like the Crystal Reaper nearly as much as a lot of other people do, and because I feel that the Hypersonics Craft was extremely disapointing. The smaller sets were better (although not as good as SP3's smaller sets), and the Ultra Drill Walker remains fantastic. But, I just have never been able to get past the fact that Mars Mission is just rather boring and uncreative when it comes to it's overall theme. I may disagree about the supposedly "controversial" storyline, but that doesn't mean it was interesting or original, and the marketing campaign wasn't nearly as cool as the one for SP3. Plus, the color scheme was rather boring, the figures were even more so, and the first wave focused way too much on silly gimmicks like foam shooters and the vacuum tubes - not to mention the stupid trans-orange holding capsules. Well, that's my two cents. Make no mistake - I like both SP3 and Mars Mission, but overal I'd say that SP3 is far more interesting and well achieved, and I hope it gets a second wave next year.

Couldn't have summed up this better myself. Seriously, I'm actually rather glad about this deal, because it very well could mean that the Marvel comics will go in a more kid-friendly direction. And that's good, IMO, because comics these days are generally super violent and full of unnecessary content. Why is it that so many characters are being killed off or changed drastically in personality, just because it supposedly makes them darker and more mature? Mature storytelling doesn't need lots of "adult" content to be mature - in fact I'd say that many of the comics these days are far less mature than more kid-friendly media options such as the recent Spiderman animated series and classic superhero shows like Batman: the Animated Series. These shows manage to be both apropriate for all ages and enjoyable by people both in and out of the general comic geekdom - and they are filled to the brim with references to classic comics, characters, and even the occasional joke that only an adult will pick up on. But are they ultra violent and do they focus on shock value rather than storyline and characters? No - which is why I generally prefer modern animation over modern comics.

Now taking YOUR ideas for NEW PARTS - LAST DAYS!
Zarkan replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Pirates
I'd like to see some smaller hulls that could be made in the same style as the new large hulls. I'd also like to see those and the current hull pieces made in dark brown, black, and other useful colors, assuming we will continue to get at least one new large ship a year. Other than that, all the other suggestions everyone has put up sound nice, especially the globe and pig parts. Not all of the treasure chests in the new line are gold, actually. Soldier's fort has a brown chest - although if you don't consider reddish-brown to be real brown, then I don't think anyone can help you with that. -
Bought the Troll Battle Wagon a few days ago, exactly one year after just about everyone else who wanted it. Joking aside, it's a decent set, but the real value comes from getting a giant troll in a relatively inexpensive set. Looks great next to the tan troll from the Dwarves Mine!

Incredible pictures, Front. The mere fact that they made Onua Mistika look cool deserves a big thumbs up. Okay, seriously - what is with everyone saying that the Inika torsos are too thin? I've been collecting sets with them as long as anyone else here, and yet I've never been bothered by the supposed thinness at all. My problem is that, built the way TLC builds them, the Inika torsos are too short - which is why I've taken to giving all my sets in that style an extra one or two technic holes in height.
-
Trust me - if there were pictures out there, we'd already have made 10+ pages of posts discussing them by now.

Sly Owl strikes again with another fantastic MOC! This is easily one of your best yet, Owl, and it features some really great part usages. The minifigures especially are excellent, and I too love the little goat. Strangely, I think the Monstrosaurus itself might be my least favorite part of the creation, although it still is very good.

Why Power Miners is better than Rock Raiders
Zarkan replied to Zarkan's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Thanks for all the replies everyone! Actually, I'm rather suprised that this many people shared the same opinion I do about the two themes, as I previously had thought that Rock Raiders was more popular around here. Either I was confusing this site with BZPower, which has a small but strong Rock Raiders following in the Lego general discussion subforu, or I was just plain wrong. Oh, and for those who have yet to purchase any sets but are interested, I highly reccomend that you start out with the Granite Grinder, Claw Digger, and maybe the Thunder Driller. Those are among the best and most detailed in the first wave, and they aren't nearly as expensive as the Crystal Sweeper, which I sadly may never purchase due to it's high price. It's unfortunately probably the most overpriced kit in the line - which is a shame, because it might also be the very best. -
Okay, this new scene finally confirms it - The Legend Reborn is going to be win. Actual elemental power usage, dialogue that isn't nearly as cheesy as in the first three movies, awesome animation - the list of awesome things just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Even Berix doesn't sound nearly as bad as he did in the very first clip - and he does't sound like Spongebob anymore. Man, I hope this movie does well, because I would really like to see two more for 2010 and 2011 - especially if the storyline is going to have a giant character reunion in the next year. Imagine how awesome it would be to see the Toa Nuva done in this style, complete with decent voice actors and dialogue that accurately portrays their character!

Recently my mom and I went to some local yardsales, and I happened to find an almost complete Insectoids 6919 Planetary Prowler that I bought for two dollars! I already owned this set, but my first copy has a lot of the parts glued together (don't ask, horrible child memory), so I'll be using the new copy as a display copy and junk the old one for parts. Oh, and did I mention that it had a few extra pieces in it, like some extra palm tree leaves and a bush?
-
Awesome new clip. Tons of action, elemental powers, Mata Nui Vs. Tuma, and Tarix and Vastus are in the movie! Man, it looks like they really tried to squeeze in as many characters as possible - even if a lot of them are just cameos. Man, this movie is seriously going to rock. I'm pretty much sold on getting the DVD as soon as I can - whereas I had no desire to buy the first three movies at all.

Woah, I never thought I'd be saying this, but Kiina's voice sounds so much better when it's tied into actual animation. The "talking to an insect" line was LOL, and I really love the appearance of the Skopio and bone hunters. Man, I'm convinced now that this movie is going to rock. Even if it's far from perfect, it's still shaping up to be better than anything before it. Edit: Waitaminute, something's not right here. Kiina said that the Bone Hunters would not dare try to challenge three Glatoran - but if so, then why was one Bone Hunter able to mop the floor with Gresh, Tarix, and Strakk back in comic one? I smell a contradiction.

Much better color scheme for the most part, but the gold Ignika contrasts so badly with the body.

Binkmeister on Eurobricks? Never saw this one coming - but at least you seem to be who you claim you are, unlike the member a while ago who claimed to be Greg F. Oh, and actually, I've calmed down a lot since the initial outburst. Mainly because I've realized how silly the idea of having an entire year in an alternate universe is. I mean, come on - that would be the ultimate way to confuse the kids and to make Bionicle die! My bet is now on the whole "Mata Nui recruits an army and takes on Teridax from the inside" idea. That would perfectly explain most the random characters like Tahu and Gresh. And as for that Piraka set, I think we got the entire thing about Vezon backwards. I'm thinking that Vezon is probably coming back to the main universe, instead of us going to his alternate universe for an entire year.

Well, since I recently finished moving myself, I think I can give you a bit of advice. Firstly, if you have lots of large sets built, then you should take care to disasemble them in a way that will allow you to reasemble them fairly quickly when you get to your new home. If something is attached by only a click hinge or one or two studs, then those should be taken off the main assembly, but try not to break apart sections that have a ton of inter-connecting pieces. Also, I'd reccomend that you put all the minifigs and acessories from your sets into individual plastic bags, as these will be a lot easier to find after the move if they are not mixed in with the regular pieces and assemblies. Now, if you're like a lot of people here and you sort loose pieces in tackle boxes and other containers, than I'd suggest leaving everything in there and simply taping them shut. If you have lots of lose boxes or extra space in other ones, then try to squeeze as many odds and ends into them as you can. I'd also reccomend that you keep at least one box on hand until the very last day of the move, because you'll want a place to put pieces that you may find as you clear furniture and other non-lego stuff out of your room. I probably have more advice I can give you, but first I need to know something. What kind of collection do you have exactly, and what kind of themes do you collect? Do you have display shelves with sets on them? Do you have a town display on the floor or on a table? If you can give me more information about your lego collection, than I'm sure that will help me and everyone else posting here in giving you advice.

A little late in coming, since I already replied to one of your topics here, but might as well welcome you anyway. Nice to see that BZP members are coming here since that site's forum is down, especially since most of the ones who have migrated are some of the more higher ranking and mature ones on that site. I shudder to think what would happen if more bad members like Rho kept coming here and getting banned on this site as well.

As I said, once we get the camera hooked up, I'll be taking a picture of him. We only just moved to Tennessee a week and a half ago, so things aren't quite in order yet.

Well, needless to say, I'm not especially happy that Cars is in the Duplo style for the second time in a row, but I can't really get that upset about it. Two of the three Disney themes are system, and TLC needs to have one theme for the really young crowd, so this was probably the best decision. Besides, I doubt we'd get anything that good in a system Cars line, at least compared to the other two system lines. Well, Megabloks is a commonly used stand in for a certain swear word on this forum, so this doesn't really surprise me a bit.
-
Been meaning to post this for a while, but I didn't for some reason. Sorry to burst your bubble, system lovers, but Greg F, the writer of the Bionicle story and a longtime employe of TLC, has said on BZPower that aparrently the Ben 10 kits will be similar to Bionicle kits and will possibly even share parts with the latter line. Unfortunatley, I have no idea what topic that quote was in, so I can't really state this as a fact. But, if you want system, than I have a feeling you'll be disapointed.

Opinions are not facts like movie ticket sale statistics are. Whatever your opinion of Michael Bay, its been shown time and time again that he knows how to make lots of money, if not necessarily a good movie. However, it's not set in stone whether the Wii is actually good or actually bad, and there are people who are not ultra casuals who actually like it.
-
As most other people, I'm calling this right from the start: it's going to be crap. Um, I hate most of what Michael Bay has done, and I still can't agree with that. At least he knows how to please the masses, if his box office records for the first two Transfomers movies are any indication. Uve Boll, on the other hand, has yet to make a sucessful film in that, or any other sense.

Warner Brothers planning CGI/live action LEGO film
Zarkan replied to Whittleberry's topic in Culture & Multimedia
If this is any indication as to what I felt when I read "live action/CGI hybrid," the first thing that popped into my head was "Small Soldiers." -
Wha...? This just keeps getting weirder and weirder. Now we have Pohatu, Bomonga, and Nokama? How is a kit of her supposed to fit in with either of the two story possibilities? And what is Exo? An Exo Toa... as a canister set? No, that would ruin the whole point of having a new version, as it would never be able to fit a current size Toa in itself. Man, 2010 is either going to be awesome or the biggest mess we've ever seen in Bionicle.

I already have gotten Tarix and plan to get Mata Nui as well. Unlike a lot of people, I thought Tarix was a decent set, but I realized that he also had a lot of wasted potential. So, I heavily modified him, giving him a more balanced color scheme, a better weapon arangement, a better place for the Thornax launcher, a less skinny body, and a taller torso. Those changes make him a lot better, IMO, and much more comparable to Gresh. I'll probably get around to posting the creation once we get our digital camera hooked up again, as well as a bunch of other MOCs that I haven't posted yet (including my complete Toa Newva mod collection). Oh, and I like the Kaxium, because it looks less like a real world bike and fits in better with the location. It's not perfect, but it's a cheap way to get two Agori and a decent vehicle - whereas the Thornatus and Skopio are awesome but probably way out of a lot of people's price range.

I couldn't be further from being a 2001'ite like some of the members, and even I see how ludicrous that is. Please tell me you are joking.... News to me, but at least now I know there's an explanation. The problem is... it's totally lame! Seriously, how can Metru Nui, the prime capital of the Matoran Universe, be the only place in that universe that doesn't have wheel technology? If the rest of the universe does, wouldn't it be logical that after thousands of years it would eventually make its way to the biggest city in Mata Nui's body? Seriously, this is just dumb. And yes, I mean the explanation, not you, jala12.
