  1. Replies like what? Because nothing I said in that last post is the least bit non-sensical or unusual. On the contrary, it's based on what is and should be the single most important rule on all mature discussion boards: RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE AND THEIR OPINIONS. Simple, effective - and yet for some reason certain members don't want to follow it. Could it be that perhaps some of the people that spend a lot of time in this part of the site simply don't want to accept opposing opinions as equally valid? Because if so, than what I said above only holds even truer. Of course, I don't really expect that coming from you, especially how you took my last post in the Bionicle 2010 topic and totally twisted it.
  2. As I said in the other topic, since the quality of the storyline is not a matter of objective fact, assertive claims like these add nothing to the debate. Nobody here is engaging in hate trips - we are simply expressing our opinions, and if you can't learn to respect them, than you don't have any place here. If you want to share what you feel about Hero Factory, fine, but enough with the "Bionicle is dying and you guys are silly for thinking otherwise" crap. Bionicle's quality or lack of quality is no more factual than Star Wars's, or Harry Potter's, or any other fantasy or science fiction story, as the quality is almost totally in the eye of the beholder. Seriously, we get it, Algenon. You hate the story, and that's fine, but that's an opinion, not a fact. I happen to like the story, and that's also an opinion. It boggles my mind how some people on this site simply can't or refuse to understand this basic truth, nor why it seems to pain you guys to hear us praise anything Greg has ever done. If you can't stand tollerate comments like "I thought 2009 was a great year for story" without replying in the manner you currently are, then again, you don't belong here or on any other dicussion forum that values respect and differing opinions.
  3. So were Gali Mistika and Hahli Inika. Your point?
  4. I think the deciding factor for many people will be how good the interior is. The outside may not be quite as impressive as the exterior of Green Grocer, but if the interior is a step ahead of all previous modular buildings, that could really seal the deal. Regardless, I think it looks great, though I won't be getting it.
  5. Most likely, they'll be about as in-depth as any average saturday morning cartoon from the eighties. Meaning, exactly what you said. Oh, you just had to do that, didn't you?
  6. Thanks guys! After I checked the site yesterday and didn't see a topic, I was wondering if everyone missed it like they did last year. Cause I didn't know how to spell the general's name back when I first joined the site. Yeah, I know, it's a pathetic reason, but I don't really feel like asking the moderators to correct it, now that I've had it like that for years.
  7. Yeah, especially since Greg said most of the target audience doesn't even care about storyline. I'm sure these sets will sell fine, as long as the packaging is eye-catching.
  8. This is why you should not be in this topic, Omi - it's obvious to me that you can't respect other people if they disagree with you (and this holds true even if you are only half-joking). Better yet, you shouldn't even be on Eurobricks pr any other civil dicussion forum at all, since respecting other people and their opinions is basically the number one rule that governs them. Oh well, at least I tried. See you guys in the Hero Factory Topic - for once I'l glad that Bionicle's replacement probably won't have a storyline any of us like, as it means there won't be nearly as much arguing.
  9. Okay, once and for all, let me make something clear: this conflict between people who like Greg's writing and people who hate Greg's writing will never end as long as we keep arguing over it, as it is based almost entirely on subjective opinion and not objective fact. While this would seem to be an obvious truth that everyone can understand, for some reason so many people here continue to make blatant generalistic statements and act like their opinions are better than others. Look, some of us like Greg's writing, and some of us don't. Is this somehow a problem, or has everyone here forgotten that diversity of opinions is what makes dicussion enjoyble? If people can just realize this and respect each other instead of making statements like "I can't believe how blindly you guys praise Greg," because posts like those only leads to strife and anger. I'm serious guys - the bionicle discussion subforum seems to have more arguments than any other area on Eurobricks. I've lost count of how many times everyone keeps arguing about the exact same topics, taking up page after page with needless disagreement. This area of the site, and everyone in it, needs to move on from these problems and learn to get along, otherwise I think we should just stop talking about the storyline period. And no, I am not saying this as a wanabe moderator, but as a fellow contributor who regrets his role in the constant strife and wants everyone to respect each other. Is that too much to ask? Because if it is, then I'm very sorry for you.
  10. Since Artahka has finally appeared in person, I'm pretty certain we'll at least get a confirmination of the latter mask's existence, and perhaps we might even see it used. Just don't let Darth Vader hear you say that.
  11. Nah, I much prefered the look of 2009's bionicle line to these "faux-bionicle" sets. Hero Factory may have somewhat of an elemental flair to its sets, but Bara Magna's line was literally the elements personified.
  12. Toa Ignika to me is one of the prime examples of why I think Greg is a good writer. As opposed to many of the other hero characters, who remained static throughout the entire series, Toa Ignika grew over the course of the two books he was in, and the gradual development of his characters, morals, and motives was excellent. And alll of this out of a Kanohi mask, no less. So, I would be happy to see him return, especially if it meant that he would get more development (particularly in the area you guys mentioned: making a true friend). I can't see what reason Greg has for not having him return, since he's usually open to having fan favorites reappear in the storyline.
  13. Thanks for the review, Ratbat. The only real thing I have to say about this set is that the blades on his arms would look a lot better if they were attached with individual technic pins. I know TLC won't do that, as they seem to have a rule against using technic pins in impulse sets these days, but that doesn't mean the technique they used here looks good. Otherwise, exceedingly boring set - and a recolored Kopaka sword isn't going to get me to spend eight bucks on it.
  14. I never liked gears, and I still don't. For some sets, like the Bohrok and Rahi sets, they were okay, as they were perfectly incorporated with the creature's designs. Howver, I hated how they limited the poseability of sets like the Toa Mata and Toa Metru, and I also hated how the gears stuck out at the back. Sure, the function might be somewhat fun for kids, but I'm not a kid anymore, and I want to be able to display my sets in interesting positions. Gears prevent me from doing this, and thus my Toa Metru look far less lively than my modified Toa Phantoka and Mistika.
  15. Don't have time to make a long comment, but I'm honestly not nearly as wowed by these new sets as you guys are. Sure, the heads and weapons are great (for the most part), but the actual designs are terrible, with huge, ugly bodies and more one piece limbs. Seriously, what's with TLC spending money to make a new Av-matoran-like limb when they also could have spent that money to make a new limb piece like the ones used in the large Bionicle canister sets? So far, the only sets that really look good to me are the vehicles, mainly because they seem more traditional and don't have huge useless parts. I'm also interested to see what Von Nebula, Rotor, and the so far picturless Bulk and Vapour combo set look like. Other than that, though, not really wetting my taste buds - and I'm 99.99% sure I won't get a single one of these sets. Oh well, at least that leaves more money for themes I do like, such as City and Space Police (the latter which I've missed out totally on so far). You're probably thinking of Bionicle 2006, which had more gimmicks than practically any other year. After that, however, things started to calm down, and by 2007 the only gimmicks were a specialized launcher for each figure - something that could be taken off easily and didn't affect the rest of the set much. 2009 has had basically no gimmicks at all besides the thornax launcher included in every set, and that is about as small and unobtrusive as you can get. Instead, the focus was on tons of recolors and new pieces with elemenal flair - something that harkens right back to the very first year of Bionicle.
  16. Thanks for the review. Honestly, I don't think there's a single set in the 2010 Power Miners line that I like, and this one is no exception. Apart from the bad color scheme, weird design, and a total emphasis on catching monsters rather than mining, it's hard for me to view these sets with the same positivity that I did with the first year of the theme. Sure, the claw catching mechanism is nice, and the figures are great, but personally, it just doesn't compare to the original Power Miners sets. Oh well, at least Atlantis has come to fill the need for a good action theme - otherwise 2010 would probably look a bit bare in comparison.
  17. Perhaps, except that there's a problem with that statement - namely that a lot of people think he is funny, at least according to the recent "what's your favorite character" topic on BZP. I'm positive that Vezon's large amount of exposure has something to do with his high popularity among BZP members - and a few fans complaining about him on a site that Greg doesn't even visit isn't going to change that.
  18. I thought Greg said somewhere that if Makuta wanted to replicate the Visorak, he could. Dunno if this is right - I just seem to recall hearing that.
  19. Perhaps they could have taken the 2004 storyline and expanded it into two years, with the fight against the Morbuzahk ending 2004 and the showdown against Makuta ending 2005. That would give room for a lot more character development, although how they would accomplish this is beyond my comprehension. Then again, 2005's real failure wasn't that the ideas were bad - it's just that they were never fully meshed together well. The main problems for me were that the Toa Hordika had far too many tasks to accomplish (building airships, searching for the mask of Life, searching for Keetongu, defeating Sidorak and the Visorak Horde, capturing Visorak towers, etc), and that there was no real obvious timeline which all of these things took place in. Whereas in 2004 there was a clear path through the comics and books, 2005 just had all sorts of events taking place without any sense of what came first and what came later. Of course, Vakama being the Toa to turn bad didn't help the situation either - really, this is one thing we probably can all agree Greg was right on. Matau would have made a better traitor, as his only reason for being a Toa in the first place was so that he could have fun and be honored for it. When he didn't get either of those things, his obvious path would have been to turn bad - but nooo, the movie-making executives had to have the leader of the Toa be the bad guy, just because he's the leader.
  20. Not related to the current issue you guys are discussing in this topic, but Greg just posted a whole bunch of info relating to the Bionicle 2001 storyline bible in this BZP topic. And I'm really glad too, because it finally smashes the myth that Bionicle was ruined by Greg's supposed overcomplications, and that it wouldn't have gotten so complex if Bob Thompson had stayed in charge. I've been saying for years that Greg wasn't totally responsible for the drastic change in style like some here thought he was, and this confirms that belief.
  21. Eh? When has Front ever not made sense? The only possible time I can think of is when he hinted that Bionicle was not ending a while ago, but other than that I don't know what you're talking about. Unless, the internet is once again hiding some sort of sarcasm that would be easy to detect in real life. Egads, just when I thought the names couldn't get worse.
  22. While I personally didn't mind the change, as Makuta was still an incredibly threatening villian, I agree that this possible revalation would indeed be incredible, as well as awesome.
  23. As someone who thought the serials were (for the most part) awesome, I can't really agree with it. Besides allowing characters in exclusive sets to get a spotlight (like Lessovikk and Mazeka), they also shed a lot of great info on the history of the Bionicle world, and allowed characters from previous years to get more time in the storyline than they would have normally. Sure, not all of them were great (Aside from the aformentioned Lessovikk, 2007's serials were fairly weak, as well as much of Reign of Shadows), but the good serials like Mutran's blog, Brothers in Arms, Riddle of the Great Beings, and Empire of the Skrall are really enjoyable, IMO.
  24. I'm not mad because this isn't Bionicle. I would be perfectly open to a new theme if it had a great storyline and didn't resort to overt cheesiness. However, this new line looks like it won't be fufilling either of those wishes, which is why I am upset. And yes, I know that most lego themes don't have complex storylines at all - in fact, Bionicle was basically the first and only lego theme to rise above the usual generic "good guy versus bad guy" genericness and actually develop a whole unique world. And that's why I'm sad to see it ending - especially since the current year is looking to be very rushed.
  25. Although I won't be getting any of them, I have to say that the Megabloks Halo Wars sets are possibily some of the finest products the company has ever made, especially since they seem to be largely brick built rather than relying on tons of oversized, overdetailed molds. The camo-effect on the bricks looks particularly interesting, and the figures and vehicle designs seem fairly true to the video game versions.
