  1. Ah... spoiler warning, perhaps? I kind of know what happens with the whale oil now. I really have to wait for pictures to judge the sets. One thing disappoints me though... in 'Classic' Lego ranges they never do part-sets, like the Captain's Cabin. 'Classic' means complete ships and buildings. When they do licensed themes, you can't really build a 'world' out of them because it makes no sense whatsoever to have the QAR's cabin built outside of the ship itself. (Although since the 'captain's cabin' is the smallest set, it might contain just a few minifigs and desk that you can fit inside the ship. We shall see.) I wonder how they'll do the 'ship in the bottle'? I can't picture anything resembling that in minifig scale without custom pieces. A 'ship in a bottle' custom piece would be one of my favourites. I look forward to other new pirate-themed accessories. Judging by the set numbers, it looks like the three 'original' sets are going to be released before the other five. Three sets... that's an odd number, isn't it? Anyone else recall a theme being launched with just three sets? Maybe there are some we don't know about...4184 and 4185, perhaps?
  2. Helena Tova? That name doesn't quite fit... she has red hair, Helena would suit someone with dark hair. And 'Tova' sounds like an alien from Star Trek. Tova from the Nova. I am going to call her Pippin Reed Jr.
  3. I doubt these will ever have any great value. They're too obviously collectable, I imagine lots of 'investors' will be buying loads of them now with the intention of selling them for a slightly higher value in ten years time. They're not going to become rare any time soon.
  4. I should have waited to see better images before voting... I expected the hula girl to have a green strap visible on her back, instead it's just blank. It kind of makes me wonder how the... uh... never mind. The skirt looks okay, I can accept the idea that it's supposed to be open on one side like that, like a wacky lopsided sarong, but when you compare it with the preliminary images it looks kind of incomplete. If I could, I'd change my vote to tennis player. She is the only one I think I can say they got exactly right. Edit: Hey, I could delete my vote all along. I wish democracy always worked like that.
  5. This is the review I was most looking forward to, I'm always interested in new female torsos and heads. Has that hair been in that colour before? I like that the torso doesn't have oil stains or bullets printed on it. It's one I could easily use in a lot of settings, although with that belt she'd always have to be a geologist or archaeologist or something. You're right about Jack, he just looks a bit weird to me, the sideburns are too long or something. Any chance of seeing a picture of this set placed over the opening in front of the pyramid?
  6. When bickering gets this bad, I like to meditate on tvtropes and take advantage of the ever-useful 'ignore' function. Is there anywhere to go to get detailed images of all the minifigs from all angles, and their individual parts? It's hard to search through eBay and hope to stumble upon good images.
  7. I'm happy with the reasoning behind the legal process, they just haven't given any indication of what happens if your idea gets accepted... will you be offered a full-time job as a Lego storyteller? Will you be offered a temporary job while this idea is developed to completion? Or will it simply be a matter of, 'hey, thanks for your contribution, we'll take it from here', and no other compensation given other than the satisfaction of having influenced the direction of the toy we all love, and the distinction that goes with this? If they're 'looking for the professionals' as Jan says, it doesn't seem unprofessional to ask these questions, and I'm asking it here for the benefit of all those who want to participate. Back when they were soliciting for applications for Designers, they clarified from the outset that this was an actual position at TLC. Here, they 'would like to invite AFOLs to contribute', which suggest that our ideas are nothing more than a contribution. Hey, I'm happy to contribute, as long as I understand that those are the terms. If there might be any sort of actual employment at the end of this, then I'm going to drop my other creative projects to focus on this.
  8. Maybe the Ambassadors could help clarify the exact nature of our role in this project for all of us thinking similar questions... I have other questions, but I don't think I can ask them here without revealing aspects of the project, so I'll ask them directly.
  9. It's not really for the company itself. I don't like to hear about people who buy all of the zombies/spartans/elves in all the boxes in a store, leaving it impossible for people who aren't familiar with the 'tricks' to get one they want by chance. I realise that taking one Hula Girl, one Tribal Leader and one Elf Dood isn't going to greatly influence the ratio of a box, but if everyone only takes the popular ones, the kids will only ever get mummies and race car drivers. Besides which, it can be actually fun to buy a minifig and not know what you're getting... so I'm not being entirely altruistic. I'm just dressing it up that way.
  10. I'll be using the bumps... but in a display of good will, I'll buy a random minifig for every one I 'choose'. It would be nice if other people used a similar honesty method... well, semi-honesty anyway. But I'm quite sure I'll be alone in this.
  11. This set has been discounted 20% pretty regularly since it first came out. I keep being tempted, but I'm trying to learn to restrain my habits. So I got the Winter Toy Shop instead. A suprisingly long build for such a small building. I guess I'm used to city sets that size that are made almost entirely of one-brick walls, or no walls at all. I like it. It reminds me of why I sometimes almost don't hate Christmas...
  12. One of the links on a previous page featured a picture of the bag from both sides, I spent a good while studying them but nothing seemed to stand out. You'd really need to get two in your hands to give it a really good comparison study though.
  13. The fishing rod looks like it's made of two pieces. One of the pieces looks like this: But with an aglet at one end instead of the stud. I'm sure that could be... useful. I think the angler also has a beard under his beard. Why do they keep doing that? If you looked up 'redundant' in the dictionary, I'm sure there'd be a picture of a lego man with a beard under his beard.
  14. I don't mind people buying them in large quantities to sell online. The more people do that, the more competition there will be, the lower the prices for those of us who want to buy specific figs with no risk. Still no listings for the hula girl. I'm really curious about that skirt. No wait, just found one. She has a flower in her hair! I had no idea about that. But the skirt doesn't seem to have the grass pattern printed on it that I'd hoped for. In fact I'm quite sure it's different from the one on the Japanese sheet.
  15. It also says 'pre-order', as Mrlegoninja had guessed.
  16. Takara Tomy seem to distribute Lego in Japan, according to my cursory googling. It could be legit - a few years ago I got Unverse Prowl two months before anyone in the rest of the world because a store accidentally broke the embargo. Unfortunately I didn't realise this at the time, and failed to make a fortune by selling it on eBay. So yes, it has been known to happen.
  17. Don't forget that this list, which I still don't 100% accept is genuine, might well change before the final release... remember the 'artist' from series three?
  18. "Sailor"... which era will this be from? Could be from the Pirate era, which would interest me, although I think it's more likely to be a man in a traditional blue and white sailor suit. Kimono Girl (Geisha?) sounds fantastic. I'm most looking forward to pics of this one. Musketeer sounds like a promising addition to my pirate theme... will he be an actual musketeer with a musket, or just a guy with a sword, as per popular culture? Punk... what kind of accessories would he have? A record, like Disco Stu, but with "Never Mind the Bollocks" printed on it? I wonder which one will be the army builder. Nothing really stands out. Musketeer, possibly?
  19. I wasn't really interested in Atlantis until these sets... I'm not interested in submarines or giant brickbuilt aquatic monsters, but submerged Grecian ruins? That's awesome. I think a lot of people will probably get the temple just for the circular bricks with ridges. I hope they include some in the next Modular Building. A bank, with pillars out the front, maybe?
  20. It took me ages of staring to find any difference. The ends of the bow are curled slightly. It's kind of like the difference between Thomson and Thompson. Also I think the string might be drawn more taut, but it's hard for me to tell - I'm not a bow expert.
  21. I voted for Hula Girl because I'm excited to have an Islander to add to my pirate theme, but I think if I weren't so pirate mad, I might have voted for something else... probably the Tennis Player.
  22. Hey, it's not really worth getting worked up over - there's no real public confirmation that can be easily linked to, no set images, anyone who stumbles on this forum and sees this thread is going to doubt that it really exists.
  23. For a while now I've been concerned about what will happen when they design four corner buildings and form a complete city block. Eventually you'll be forced to start another block. Personally, I want all my modular buildings to be part of the same city block, but the only way to do this and still have corner buildings would be to design a buildling to fit on an inside corner, something like this: The problem would be that whereas other modular buildings have one or two sides facing outwards, this design would only have a very narrow piece of architecture in between two large blank walls that are supposed to be hidden next to other modular buildings. And then I realised that I was assuming this building would be intended to be looked at from the street. What if what is normally the rear wall became the main design? Instead of the building 'fronting' onto the pavement, it could front onto a garden. Not only will this enable a more elaborate L or even potentially T shaped block, but they can design a building with something other than grey pavement in front of it. Maybe it could be a residential building with a lawn in front of it, maybe a school with a playground... Of course, it will still take another four years to make a complete rectangular block if they continue to release one modular building a year, so it isn't an urgent problem... but is it something you would like to see them do, eventually?
  24. Eee... do Lego fans really want an adult diaper piece? I can only think of one use for it outside of a Sumo wrestler...and now I can't get it out of my head...
  25. Even descriptions are going to make me happy at this point. The uncertainty is killing me... I've already resolved not to get them, but I'm happy for them to test that resolve.
