The green vest on that guy in front of the barn can totally be used on a pirate. And he also has Dastan's hair in blonde. The dress looks promising as well. I'm in. Um... and looking at it from a Medieval perspective, the sets are good too... [edit] ooh, and buckets! Pirate ships would have buckets, wouldn't they?

My first thought is 'I wonder if any of the torso prints will be suitable for my pirates'. I've already taken the Queen's dress and the Blacksmith's apron. It looks like there'll be at least two (?) new historic civilian prints here. I was really hoping the windmill would be a MMV-type set with adult-oriented design... oh well. At least the barn has walls, unlike a certain other barn we've had recently.

Did any of the sets have pictures, or was it text only? If pictures, any details you recall? New parts, new hats, old hats in new colours... -
Lego is of course continuously evolving in minor ways, introducing new parts and new colours and that sort of things, but several times there have been huge changes that mark turning points in the direction of the toy. These include: Introducing new faces to the minifigs other than the standard smiley face Introducing eyebrows and white dots in the eyes of minifigs changing grey to bluish grey, and brown to reddish brown changing the basic shape of technic pieces so they no longer have studs fleshies Depending on when you started collecting, these changes and other have been either good or bad. I came out of my 'dark age' after bluish grey and reddish brown were introduced, so it didn't affect my collection and I actually prefer the new colours to the old ones. Now that I have a reasonably large collection, I can't help worrying about what the next change will be that makes subsequent lego sets incompatible or inconsistent with the ones I already have. I don't want to replace my old parts, or somehow segregate old parts from new ones. Alternatively, I look forward to new innovations that will enhance the toy, like skirt pieces for female minifigs that don't make them taller than other minifigs, or hair pieces with holes in them (like the medieval queen with her tiara) that you can fit hats onto. I think Lego is perfect the way it is now, but hypothetically, what changes are left to make that can improve the toy but make everything before it incompatible in some way?

What's the best Minifigure ever made?
David Thomsen replied to Mr. Elijah Timms's topic in General LEGO Discussion
This is tricky, and I think it needs to be broken down into licensed, non-licensed and 'classic' minifigs. Licensed for me would have to be Indiana Jones. I'm not a Star Wars fan, sorry... but I always loved Indy. Non-licensed, I have to go with Pirate Chick. And for the 'Classic' minifig, I have to go with Generic Town Figure. Not because of any transcendent design, but because when I was growing up, this was Lego. Just a guy with a striped shirt, maybe a house or a car or a bicycle. -

I think this might be a case of Chinese Whispers... someone said the earliest they could release the images was when the trailer is released, and this has been misinterpreted as when they will release pictures. The trailer still gives us plenty to discuss, like the horse and carriage scene, for instance - London Escape? -

Ooh, Aztec gold - I hadn't even thought of that! Hopefully they won't just use standard Lego coins. I need more treasure other than coins, jewels and the occasional Gold ore. -
I actually like the bank, if only because it's completely unexpected... I was beginning to think there weren't going to be any buildings in 2011 other than police and space buildings. It could have been a lot more bland... I like the 'different' architecture.

It seems to suggest conclusively that the Hula Girl is modern, but dressed in a primite style, rather than an actual pirate-era Islander. Now I won't be able to use her in my Pirate theme. (Just kidding. She's totally going to be kidnapped by the pirates anyway) -
I like to think the source is reasonably reliable... some of the other things they mentioned were also backed up by other people. I just think TLC is getting better at keeping their plans a secret. Shame Julian Assange isn't a Lego fan. Look at the Pirate of the Caribbean theme, for example... one Jack Sparrow minifig, and then months of tension before anyone finds out anything more about it. An unreliable source is usually when someone finds something that a fan edited in a Wiki in Hungarian... saying 'I saw some preliminary images for sets for next year' is an odd way to put your reputation on the line.

The Three Musketeers. The Punk's guitar covered most of the torso, so I had to guess what it looked like from what I could make out in the other image. The collar might be completely wrong. I thought the Samurai and the Forestman would be the most suitable choices for the other two Musketeers. Edit: Here you can see what I think the complete torso looks like: -

I'm just going to continue my Classic Pirates with anything that fits in. The collectible minifig range is going to throw up usable figures occasionally, like the Island Girl and the Musketeer, and I'm sure eventually they'll have additional pirates and bluecoats and stuff like that. POTC is hopefully going to introduce some interesting parts, and depending how good the sets are, I might buy the sets but remove the Fleshies to add the ships and locations to my theme. And if I feel like it, I can swap out the Classic pirates for the Fleshies occasionally. I would have preferred the Classic Pirates to continue, but I'm going to make the most of POTC. -
Non-Pirate Mini-Figures Useful for Pirate MOCing?
David Thomsen replied to Athos's topic in LEGO Pirates
Sorry for double posting, I've been thinking about the Musketeer some more and pondering which other two heads I will add to make a set of Three Musketeers. Here are some thoughts from the Collectible Minifig range itself: The Forestman: The Magician: The Ringmaster: The Samurai: Looking at them like this, I'll definitely go with the Forestman, but after that it's a close call between the Magician and the Saumurai. I'll wait until I can see heads on bodies before I make my final decision. The Magician matches the Dashing Swordsman image better, but maybe I want a strong, silent Musketeer instead... [edit]Or I could break the Dumas Rule of Three and have as many Musketeers as I want, but I don't want to be one of those army builders who snatches up all of one minifig so no one else can have it.. three seems like a good number. -

I think it's more of an épée than a rapier... it has that rounded hand-guard, whereas a rapier has a more traditional cross shape. I've just realised what we're going to see in minifig series five or six - a fencer in a white suit and a mask. It seems inevitable, now that I think about it. -

I find it odd that so many people are saying 'hey wow, TLG must be monitoring these pages, they keep using our ideas!' It's like no one really understands statistics... We've suggested hundreds of minifigs in these pages. Some of the suggestions are completely unrealistic, but a lot of them are quite feasible, and every obvious minifig, like a wizard or a beauty queen or a secret agent, has probably already been mentioned. Under the circumstances, it's pretty amazing that they come up with ideas that haven't been mentioned here already. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 4 poll

I had to go with the Geisha, just narrowly beating the Musketeer. Sure, the Musketeer has a cool new hat and sword that I want lots and lots of, but the Geisha is pure loveliness. I'm also quite fond of the Artist, although I will probably take his brush and palette and give them to a minifig of my own choosing. -

David Thomsen replied to legokuate's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I love these minifigs, and it's the first time I'm going to get multiples of any figure - the Musketeer. I don't actually need any Musketeers, but that hat and épée are perfect for my ever-expanding pirate theme. Must have. The Geisha is fabulous, but I don't really need her, and I don't usually get minifigs unless they compliment one of my existing themes... in this case I might make an exception though. Mostly I only want the others for their accessories. Brush, palette, steel telescope, ELECTRIC GUITAR... all things I must have. -
Non-Pirate Mini-Figures Useful for Pirate MOCing?
David Thomsen replied to Athos's topic in LEGO Pirates
Okay, so who thinks the new Musketeer figure from Series 4 would be useful for the Pirates range? Musketeer hat? Épée? Yes. I am getting me some of that. -
Is this being discussed in another thread? I find it odd that I can't find anyone talking about this modular pet shop anywhere on Eurobricks. I'm beginning to wonder if it was discredited and I just hadn't noticed. I look forward to each year's modular building more than any other Lego set, so I'm keen to hear any news about it, even if it's just a colour scheme or some information about the shape. Edit: If they have a Winter Train, I hope they don't include a motor with it. That would make it too expensive. A train, a platform and a circular track would be fine with me, and alternative building instructions for anyone who wants to pay the extra for a motor.

New Zealand: "Where to find Lego"
David Thomsen replied to Legoman's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
That's out of the blue. I guess NinjaGo is more likely to appeal to the Beyblades-loving child market, but Pharoah's Quest is a more traditional Lego range, which automatically makes it much much better. I'm not going to get either, but it's sad that PQ won't be on the shelves. So the next modular building is a Pet Shop? Interesting... any due date? I guess it'll be the same time as the Grand Emporium this year. How can the minifigures range have a dragon in it? I guess it would be something like this: -

If you also got your kicks on Route 66, I may be sensing a theme... -
I probably won't get the POTC theme, although if there are some new parts (compass, epee, powdered wig) I will probably get them on BrickLink to boost my Classic Pirates theme. The POTC torsos will be too specific for my Classics theme, even if they don't have flesh skin printed on them. I like the generic Pirate look of the classic stuff.

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
David Thomsen replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
If the cannibal cage isn't made out of these bone pieces, I will trade my mother for a megablock. Civilians with wigs would be great, but no action theme has ever had civilian characters, unfortunately. I don't think we'll see wigs until we get Cutler Beckett. As much as I want this theme, I'm kind of suspicious of TLC's ability to follow themes through. There were so many obvious Indiana Jones locations and characters missed... what if we don't get Tia Dalma, or Governor Swann's Mansion? They didn't even make a bowler hat for the Speed Racer theme... what if we never see wigs at all? Lego should be taken over and controlled by AFOLs. It's the only way. Edit: Actually, the Agents theme had those civilians who were being menaced by a giant robot, didn't it? But the London set doesn't sound like it has anyone to be menaced. -

Ooh! I saw a bone piece used as a weapon by a Ninjago figure. This would be the perfect application for it.
