Ooh - will this be in a new thread, or will you just take notes from threads that already exist?

Probability of returning to Classic Pirates after POTC...
David Thomsen replied to David Thomsen's topic in LEGO Pirates
Do you mean they sell well below retail price, or that they sell well at retail price? If the latter, why wouldn't the Lego Group be happy with that? -
Classic Pirates have fallen under the radar over the last few months, but as someone who only uses the POTC range to boost my Classic set-up, Classic Pirates have never been far from my mind. If Classic pirates did return, it would have access to all of these new pieces that did not exist two years ago: Gold Ingots New Gold Coins Ponytail Hair Sword Holders Musketeer Hats Buckets Bottles Two new soldier torsos - King's Officer and Barbossa New mermaid tails Globe Islander hair & bones If for some reason the POTC line did fail after one or two waves, I think Lego would be in the perfect position to revisit the Classics line, especially since there were only two or three new moulds in the 2009 line. Some things, like the sword holders, musketeer hats, soldier torsos and possibly ponytail hair, can only really be used in a Pirate theme. On the other hand, after Classic Pirates in 2009 and then POTC in 2011, they may want to take a break from Pirates for a while.

It depends how much of the first waves we buy. -

Oh yeah... I don't have the ponytail piece yet so I mistook it for Malfoy's swept back hair. I wanted to know what other people thought about pirates wearing product in their hair anyway, since I'm expanding my pirate minifig collection and trying to figure out which hairstyles are valid. -

Ooh, I do hope we get those beautiful flesh-free torsos. Incidentally, that guy on the left with the swept-back hair... how reasonable is it that people used hair gel in the 18th century? Apart from this pirate in a recent Doctor Who episode, I don't think there's any evidence that Draco Malfoy's hair fits into the pirates theme. -
This is my point. Accurate to the film, yes, if a little too big... but who would be excited by this as a set?

Spoilers (Although I think that tag is meaningless at this point...) The design of the fountain doesn't bother me in the slightest. It's not film accurate, but I find this one much more interesting that the version in the film, as a toy. It also doesn't bother me that there are some extra bits that aren't supposed to be there. I am a bit sad about the exclusion of the Spanish, though. Maybe next wave...

I apologise. I didn't mean for my post to be about myself, I was speaking as a member of the group you had maligned. I will edit my previous post for clarity. -

Um... you're crossing a bit into troll territory here. I am a real person, I did not watch a crap quality bootleg at home, I haven't actually read any reviews so I'm not just 'jumping on the trash train', the critics' opinions are not 'wrong' just because you hold a different opinion. I am glad you enjoyed the film. I do not think your experience of the film is invalid because it differs from mine. Please extend the same courtesy to people who have a different opinion of the film from you. -
Hmm... hopefully these chrome pieces will turn up on BrickLink soon, I ordered some of the pearl gold coins and ingots but if I'd known they would turn up in chrome eventually I would have waited. Wish there was a way I could have Lego replace my pearl gold pieces for chrome pieces, but... that's probably not going to happen, since I haven't actually purchased any sets.

The Fountain of Youth is a completely different design from the movie, but I actually prefer this one as a Lego set. This one has interesting pieces and a more fun design, I imagine a set based on the actual scene from the movie would be kind of dull. I understand why Blackbeard needed a specialised sword piece designed (If you've seen the film, he does have kind of a noteworthy sword), but his hat is the same size as a regular tricorn. Incidentally, does anyone have any pictures of what Blackbeard's hat looks like on a minifig without the giant beard? I suspect it would be very oversized. I'm glad they designed the globe for the Captain's Cabin set, even if there was no globe in the film. It still makes a pretty awesome piece. As for the film itself, I feel it was lacking a little. The bits with Philip and Syrena were particularly bad, it's like they needed to replace Will and Elizabeth with a couple even more annoying. And they replaced Pintel and Ragetti with one guy called Scrum, and they didn't have the comic soldiers either, so there wasn't as much comic relief beyong Jack himself. It was still worth watching just for Jack, though, even if it didn't have that added charm. Oh yeah, and if you're planning to see the film, remember to sit all the way to the end of the credits! Pretty much 95% of the audience had left by that point, even though all of the previous films had featured post-credit scenes. -
This is just a reminder that those of us waiting to pick this item up in several months time are still eager to read an in-depth pictorial review of this item...

Looking at the buildings like that, it seems that apart from different architectural styles, there are also different scales. The FB and the GG are the largest scale, with a few large windows on the front and a lot of spacing between them. The GE and the PS are the smallest scale, with many small windows and little space between them. The CC is a mixture, with large well-spaced windows on top and many small windows in the middle. It seems kind of like the buildings have been enlarged or shrunk down to fit on a 32x32 plate. I was going to organise them by architectural style, but on second thought I'll arrange them from largest scale to smallest scale. PS, GE, CC, FB, GG. Something like that.
-
Thanks Grogall, I wanted to know how they compared with the GG. I'd arrange the buildings in the opposite order though, because I don't like for the 'Hotel' sign to be visibly backwards... also I'd planned to split up the two Pet Shop buildings like this, but seeing them compared with the GG they seem weirdly crushed, so I think I'll put them together for solidarity. Yes! I was thinking the same thing. It's weird for there not to be at least one in-depth review by this point, we've seen a lot of pictures but not a pictorial break-down. Edit: Just noticed how unevenly spaced the street lamps are when you split up the two smaller buildings like this... but I guess that can be very easily fixed. It just means you have a whole year to find a bigger desk.
-
I think that was an inevitable compromise to be able to fit in the entire two extra walls needed to create two separate buildings. I was actually quite surprised by how little this affected the size of the buildings. Unless they try to create a triple building modular, I doubt the height of the buildings is ever going to get any shorter than this.
-
I'm much happier now, having seen these vids and pics. The buildings are not all that impressive from the exterior, but they're not supposed to be. It's all the little details that make up the appeal - these are supposed to be homes, not architectural wonders. In the video, Jamie talks about the different architectural styles of the buildings, and how they don't really belong anywhere in particular. I'd love to know when they belong, because I'm quite sure that fire engine doesn't belong with that escalator...

Town Hall? Ooh neat, I hope it has those round ridged bricks. I'm already picturing it, white with a grand foyer, maybe one large floor with a smaller floor above that like the Fire Brigade. I see it in more of a FB/GE look than CC/GG/PS. Okay that's it from Baseless Speculation Theatre.
-
I'm slightly disappointed, maybe my reaction would be better if I hadn't seen so many mock-ups and stuff. The brick design on the red building confuses me a little. Still, I can't judge until I've seen them between the GG and the CC.
-
Okay, let's roll the dice another time. What's the next Lego event they could possibly display the set at? Maybe they're actually waiting until the set is released, just to see how that affects sales. I don't think it will make the slightest difference. Dear Lego: I am going to buy exactly one of this set, no more and no less, regardless of when you choose to reveal it.
-
It sure cheers me up during these dreary Autumn days in New Zealand.
-
I'll only be using these sets for the parts, so it's a disappointment that the ingots are pearl rather than chrome. Shiny things are so... shiny!
-
It looks like it's going to fit in perfectly with the Green Grocer and the Corner Cafe... and while I enjoy my Grand Emporium and my Fire Station, I much prefer this style of architecture.

He says: No wonder we haven't seen any pictures of the pet shop if they manage to keep it a secret from themselves

Oh. I misunderstood... I don't paint houses very often so I confused 'touching up' with 'finishing up'.
