  1. Once again: brilliant. Where do you come up with those ideas anyway!?! Ah, don't tell me, cat's brain + alien body (or is it the other way round?) In any case, I'm really excited to see what you'll come up with for the EBCT Contest...

    MOC: Hot Dogs

Awesome MOC, and a lovely little wordplay... I really love this vig :]
  3. That's a really good question... I myself grew up with the town sets of the early 90s, and to me THEY are the "classic" ones. I can't bring myself to rebuild, say, an early 70s set, simply because that was way before my time and there is no emotional connection present there. But I'll get back to this later. Comparing "classic town" sets, no matter if they're from the 70s, 80s or 80s to nowadays' town sets, I can see a lot of similarities and I do believe that TLG are back on track with their town sets after the unbelievably lousy designs of the late 90s/ early 00s. To me, that was the only period were there was no such thing as "town" and most of LEGO's sets in that direction could directly be qualified as "rubbish". So in that sense, I blieve that Classic Town is what you'd even get if you buy the upcoming City Corner! It's open-back, it offers a simple construction with a lot of playability, it represents a charming, vivid scene... Aren't those all features of classic town as well? I mean, LEGO has progressed through the years and, fortunately, we've been given the chance to choose between more and more different parts and colours to suit different needs. In my mind though, that does not in any way contrast with the "idea" and "class" of Classic Town. It's simple evolution - and from the majority of posts on the previous page, I get the feeling that there IS indeed no such thing as "Classic Town", save for the nostalgic feelings we all experience when rebuilding / looking at the town sets from our respective childhood. And I do think it is indeed that warm fuzzy feeling which turns something into a "classic" for each and every one of us.
  4. Right-clicking an image in Windows Explorer and rotating it, then uploading this image to wherever you have uploaded the other ones would be difficult?! Why did you even post the picture (or something like that), a link would have been good enough, if you're that unbotherable...
  5. Wow! Great birdies, I'll definitely use this one as an inspiration... Thanks!!! Btw, what's next, beach bunny spotting?
  6. 4-wide ftw!!!! That's a great MOC mate, the lil BBQ party going on at the back is really a very nice touch... I definitely think that of your 4 City display buildings, this one is my favourite.
  7. Totally agree with fugglewyg there. Sutil really deserved to snatch a few points for his team - because Force India have really come a long way in a short time without moaning about how huge the advantage of others are... Much unlike the other team with 0 points so far this season. I was absolutely thrilled to see Vettel dominate the race without using even a hint of the miracle-working (at least if you listen to Ferrari and Renault's ceaseless complaints) feat of technological breakthroughs that are diffusers... A really entertaining race indeed which went a long way to prove what this year's drivers are made of. And I admit with most F1 fans, the similarities between Vettel and Schumi are uncanny, however Sebastian has a positive spirit and attitude which wasn't too typical of his over-aggressive compatriot. Speaking of over-aggressive, hot headed as he is, Lewis did indeed prove that his skills are fitting of a world champion, albeit one with a very VERY weak car (hence all the spinning). Don't forget that the chassis of his and Heiki's car and totally different both in terms of aerodynamics, grip, suspension, etc. I can't really say that I'm too enthusiastic about Heikki coming up in fifth as he'd had a largely uneventful race from what I saw (I did mass the first part of the GP tho), but it's good thing to see that McLaren seem to be getting back on track.
  8. Ooops! Please excuse my incompetence... My childhood sets are from the late 80s/ early90s, so I wasn't really aware of the 70s sets' styling, which this one truly recreates. What a wonderful throwback :) As to the "modern" bricks - I really do believe that using them in a retro MOC is a wonderful challenge. That's why I was so happy to see that there was no limitation as to the bricks, colours and parts used in this contest.
  9. This is definitely an issue with MOCpages and one of the main reasons as to why that place has let me down. I've contacted kids who posted other people's creations on multiple occasions - almost every time they had the sense do delete the respective MOC almost instantly, but sometimes they needed a bit of convincing. In any case, posting someone else's MOC on mocpages is lame, annoying and sad... but not unexpected. So it's only logical that it happens @ LEGO Universe as well. I do believe that the guys over there should have some more direct contact with LEGO Ambassadors in order to sure this doesn't turn into a habit for lame glory-hunting builders.
  10. I didn't manage to watch the qualifying session, but it sure is an awesome line-up! Well done to Seba for his pole position, Red Bull have indeed come a long way this season, and now finally they have a pilot who can really challenge for a top spot. As to Nelsinho - I haven't seen any single thing that really makes this guy stand out... I know he's had some success in the smaller classes, but he seems to be unable to cut it in the big league and I don't see the legacy of his dad being as a sufficient reason for Renault to keep him. He's obviously not managing to help the team in any way, unlike Alonso, so I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him go.
  11. Hell, by then each single LEGO brick will be a classic... :skull:
  12. Now that I've actually seen this one in detail (thanks, Kanal K-1), I can definitely say that 6351 was much, MUCH better. With that one, you got a trailer and a boat - here they didn't even bother to think of some clever way of storing a sail to turn this one into a windsurf... Plus, I think the double mechanisms of 6351 were way better than this one and did provide better playbility as well. The frying pan here for example is very nice to have; however I can't quite imagine where these guys would use it! The sleeping compartment does however seem to compensate for that. All in all, it looks like an OK set. I might not be thrilled by it, but there are very few sets in our collection that remain constructed in their original state anyway... So I'll probably get it - mostly because of the girl's torso & hair.
  13. Which means we have until 13. May to submit our entries. I would however like to know whether voting itself will begin on 13. May or sooner (before the actual deadline?)
  14. Well done mate! A very strong entry And welcome back to Town building!!! I really like the 80s "Euro-styled" version of the Market Street building and the scene with the window washer. The red phone booth is also a very nice touch! I was however wondering why all of those road signs are facing the camera...?
  15. Glad I/we could help with that truck delivery thing :) It really looks very cool, nice job mate! Have fun at the exhibition ;]
  16. Well I never said I approve of McLaren being banned either! I also think that this whole story and the entire feud between FIA and McLaren has been dragging on for way too long, but I can understand why that is so. The aftermath of the Ferrari espionage case is still haunting McLaren and it's obvious that the damage to their reputation was enormous, especially considering how stewards nowadays seem to feel obliged to shave points off every other race that runs well for them. And as to Lewis shaving a few seconds off Rubens' times in the Brawn car - yes, you're most probably right. But then again, I'd always wondered whether the likes of Button would not be able to compete with Lewis on level terms, if provided with a good car - and the answer is right there. The key to Brawn GP's success has really been a wonderful blend of brilliant engineering and great experience on both drivers' sides. That has helped them improve the car on the run and I think it will remain a decisive factor. In any case, as thrilling a notion as that might be, I would prefer not to see Lewis behind the wheel of a Brawn GP car. This whole McLaren vs the world business must be finished once and for all, so that everyone can turn over a new leaf. Hopefully, McLaren will learn their lesson and go back to their winning ways...
  17. Ron Dennis has cut all ties with McLaren... Could that be the first indication that it is indeed doom that awaits my favourite team in F1? I can't say it wouldn't be deserved, but I was really hoping they'd manage to pull themselves out of it. Rumours persist that Lewis might replace Rubens as a Brawn GP driver... What do you guys think of that? Personally, I'd prefer him to stay at McLaren, especially bearing in mind all that the team have done for him. If he goes, they're as good as dead!

    Slip and Fall

Oh well, we all pretty much know what they read anyway, don't we Great scene, and very up-to-date too :) What's next, a vig depicting North Korea's satellite sinking in the Sea of Japan?
  19. Very nice MOC, make sure you post the completed version as well!!! The first thing that came to my mind seeing this was - drinks. Yeah, it's a cafe, so alcoholic beverage (i.e. BOOZE) is perhaps not really the best option. But since you have to build cars anyway (as you put it ), why not build one of those smaller Coke delivery vans and add a few crates of fizzy drinks being loaded or unloaded? That would really make use of that backdoor entrance you've built there - and I do believe that hiding it away and failing to make good use of it would be a crying shame. I really like that detail, no matter how small it looks. If you use it right, that backdoor could really lay the foundation for some wonderful further developments of this scene... On a whole different level, following that backdoor thing - if you've considered adding the element of crime to your freelug exhibition, you might as well try and add a mobster scene happening just behind the cafe - like in those old Godfather mafia-type movies... Bluebard did that with his pizza parlour and I thought it looked awesome Keep us posted :) Would be great if you could take a few pics of the entire exhibition. Oh and btw, I'm totally with 3D Brickthing on what he said about the interior. You've really done a nice job, make sure it's seen, people will really enjoy it!
  20. Such a waste of a perfectly fine set of slicks... I say, turn this one into a racing F1-type bolid and let those poor handicapped people have some serious FUN!
  21. @ prateec - ooops
  22. Pardon me for saying that, but that's just how the Temple of the Crystal Skulls left me feeling as well. Is it just me or are the "big" IJ sets not really as awesome as most Indy-fans would want us to believe?
  23. Best Castle set I've seen in years, I just had to have this. Now all I have to do is wait for it to arrive!!!
  24. Thanks for your answers, WhiteFang :) Very much appreciated - just like the whole idea for the contest! Even if we don't manage to come up with anything on time (or at least anything we think is good enough for a competition), it will be tons of fun seeing all the entries! Just to be clear - that does include women as well, right - no Paradisa girls' faces (they first came out in the 90s, so I guess that's self-explanatory, but I just had to ask...)
  25. This is GREAT WhiteFang! Woooohooooooo! We thought we were going to give MOCcing a break until after the exams (~2+ months), but I guess we'll try to take part in this one! I have a few questions however: 1. Does "Classic Town" imply that ONLY classic town buildings can be accepted without modular structures of any kind? 2. How do you define a "classic" car which is appropriate - 6-wide for trucks/buses, 4-wide for regular cars? As long as the setting is kept as the ones which were seen on the old LEGO sets, 5- or 6-wide cars would be out of the question, right? 3. Can a contestant's entry include previously done/published MOCs and to what extent? For example, would it be fine if a building which was previously done was included or would it be better if the content of "previous" MOCs was limited to cars and minor scenes only? 4. What is of greater importance here - sticking close to the "classic" theme (building very simple cars and buildings) or rather using that the 70s/80s as a foundation on which to build an elaborate MOC?
