  1. That would really be useful. At least it'll give people who are ready to start building some basic reference. We've ordered a few flower-specific (a.k.a. girly - yet rare & fun ;) ) pieces off Bricklink, so I guess we'll get started once they arrive. Now, I know we've already chipped in for that florist's building, however I have a few considerations I'd like to point out... As previously stated, not all of the Eurobricks Town members possess hundreds and hundreds of bricks in different colours. As is the case with the two of us, having only recently joined the ranks of the AFOLs, we can't really get too picky about using fancy colours on our MOCs - yellowed ex-white, white, yellow, red, grey and black are basically the colours we're most likely to use in an MOC and that's not because we're so fond of them - it's just that we still haven't gotten our paws on the Modular factory sets... and until we do, ordering bricks from Bricklink is not really a viable solution for that problem. I guess you can also imagine that tiles come few and far between in the collections of other "recent" AFOLs such as ourselves. Don't get me wrong, I reckon that using tiles to build sidewalks would be fine for us, bearing in mind we're only doing a 16x16 structure, however if somebody wants to build a bigger house, they would still have to use tiles for the pavement in front of it - and what if they don't have enough? I know that by saying all of this I may potentially sound stupid to guys who are sure to have tons of fun building an elaborate structure while using the most intricate designs they can conceive... So it's just a consideration, don't think of it as whining or anything negative - at the end of the day, I think we should all make sure we make this a fun experience for all of us. Let's lay down some basic rules & guidelines, but other than that I believe that those who are willing to take part should be able to use their creativity as to how they could make the bricks at their disposal work best for their respective project. /rant over/ P.S.: Just noticed the zoning info was already posted. Thanks for that mate ;)
  2. I guess the two of us could use this as an extra incentive to build the florist's then - we'd love to add that to our community's county. Is 16x16 OK for a shop? Oh, and regarding the layout of the "county" - wouldn't it be better to wait and see who's willing to participate in this and what they're building for it, before actually working on a layout plan? I believe it will be much easier to accommodate the needs of buildings which have already been built and then use them as a reference for future expansions, instead of coming up with a plan and then filling the voids. As to those conventions - as long as they're all taking place in the USA, guess you won't be seeing much of our buildings :(. We COULD fly over to a convention on the other side of the pond and meet up with you guys, but carrying MOCs along would be too much of a bother.
  3. I also agree that the Spyrians' base is really nothing special compared to the Ice Planet base for example. However, Spyrius is still a personal favourite series and 6889 is one of my all-time fav sets. As a matter of fact, there are only two sets I haven't taken apart and the robot is one of them, so that must mean something... Algernon - thanks for the great review! Now you've got me hooked - I think I'll use that old baseplate and try my hand at building a base for the Spyrians. It's been sooooooooo long since I last built a space MOC, I'm sure this will be fun!
  4. Thank you for your comments guys. Guess I won't worry about those gaps any longer then ;] Thanks for the kind words mate - but I think I'll keep this one in 4-wide for the time being, since it feels more realistic that way. The Divcos do look smallish and building one in 6-wide would be sorta like building a Mini Cooper or VW Bug in 6-wide... But you got me thinking. I did build a Ford Crown Victoria taxi a couple of months ago in 4-wide, however I wasn't exactly thrilled with the outcome. I think I'll rebuild that one in 6-wide and turn it into my 6-wide initiation MOC :D
  5. Good ideas! I guess that Brickster & Hinckley will now have to decide if there will be such a contest and what it will be about, but at least we got the ball rolling... As to what it could be about... seeing as the town+castle theme is still quite popular, it could be something in that aspect. I'd definitely love to see more MOCs like Aliencat's Hammerfell castle for example ;)
  6. Thanks Pedro :) Actually, this one is not a 1:1 copy of the pic I posted... here's another reference photo: Divcos came in different shapes & sizes throughout the years, but we tried to go for the "original" 60s look, hence the usage of all four wide fenders. That gap is still bothering me tho and the worst part is, even if I can implement a SNOT solution to cover up that gap, it makes the truck look too gaudy - which is a thing I definitely wanted to prevent from happening. Minimalistic, yet colourful is pretty much what the original was all about. Do let me know if you get any ideas :]
  7. Looking at the Eurobricks frontpage, I guess I'm not the only one who feels that a Town-related Contest could really liven up this place (even more)... How do you feel about the idea? Has such a contest been held before?
  8. I'd love to join as well. I own quite a few sets from the 90s, including some rare ones, besides - Asya & I have been buying quite a few new LEGO sets lately, so this could be an extra incentive :D However, I do have one question - owing to the fact that I was a stupid kid who displayed his town in a room full of windows & direct sunlight was pretty much omnipresent, I own a lot of discoloured white/grey bricks which have now forever lost their genuine colour. Even though that is not a problem to me, I guess that nobody would like to see a review with photos of discoloured buildings, so the question is - can I still use some of my discoloured bricks and to what extent? Of course, if I am admitted, I will make sure I use newer bricks when re-building old sets, however that will not always be possible, hence my worries. Thanks for your consideration ;)
  9. This is absolutely marvellous! I won't go into details explaining what and why I love so much about it, but you've obviously put in a lot of work, so it's only natural that the end result is such a beauty. Just got one question: have you considered adding even MORE greenery to this MOC, as in the original Hundertwasserhaus? Looking at it on a fine spring morning, I had the feeling that shrubs and trees were coming straight out of those vibrant colours and I really loved that combination of colours + trees.... it was sorta like the Hanging Gardens of Babylon or something. Here's what I'm talking about:
  10. V-LC-12A So Asya wants us to build a florist's store once we're done with our current big project - and that sounds like a fun build. But then we thought that just keeping those flowers locked up in a shop would be a crying shame... so we decided that we'd let our florist have some help in the form of a delivery guy who would drive one of those cute little snub-nosed trucks. We haven't even started with the florist's store yet, but we're already done with our Flower Power truck. There it is, the lovable Divco, restored to and ready to roll around the city and deliver some happiness - not in the usual (for this truck) form of dairy products, but it still caries a rather natural product! [imghttps://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-i9tb1-HUhSA/Tu_jsEouR4I/AAAAAAAAHas/9Tdu4DliGaI/s500/1235774041m_SPLASH.jpg[/img] Building this was tons of fun and I guess it shows... despite using some of my discoloured bricks (after all, it IS a truck from the 1960s!) Divco trucks were equipped with a brilliant driving system which had the gas and brakes positioned next to the steering wheel. In that way, the driver did not have to sit down in order to operate one of these and that was a feature we wanted to bring to our creation. The reason for that is that these ones were usually used as milk distribution trucks, so they had to make multiple stops every other second - and having the driver sit down and stand up all the time was quite impractical for that. The traditional windshield design is complemented by the side windows' form. A big issue with this one, however, is the gap which remains between the "windshield" and the side window. Owing to the fact that the latter actually swings open, I could not think of any way to close up that gap. I would be extremely grateful if any of you guys could come up with a solution of that problem... Coming up next: The florist's shop. More pics of our snub-nosed friend can be seen @ MOCpages. P.S.: Chopper Otters? LOL!!! :pir-laugh: Thanks guys, I love our new nickname :D
  11. Great pottery there mate! I myself am working on a little pottery store for our medieval town right now, mind if I use your pottery wheel as an inspiration? I'll make sure to give you all due credit :)
  12. Just commented on MOCpages... Love it mate, that's a really well executed project!
  13. Thanks guys! Glad you liked it, this was one of my earliest "adult" MOCs
  14. Poor poor cellmates... no TV, no chess tournaments :))) Lovely MOC though... don't know about Brickster, but I sure love it!
  15. Thanks mate, it's actually not really comments or even commenDs I'm after, what I'd like is some piece of friendly advice on how to improve stuff, since I'm far from being half as good as most of you guys around here. That's what I really miss @ Brickshelf & MOCpages and that's the kind of support which I like about this place.
  16. I'd be very grateful if I could get some more responses regarding the rear wheel design... do you think that the bike looks too big this way? Is it perhaps a bit unsightly? Or should I keep it and build on it? Don't get me wrong, I like the bike just fine as it is - in fact, I think it's the most realistic looking one out of all three bikes I've built so far. However, I wanted to hear your thoughts & ideas, so that I could eventually improve the design for my future motorcycle MOCs...
  17. IF it ever gets imported to Bulgaria, it will cost AT LEAST 130eu... Just like Town Plan a year or so ago: originally priced at approx. 150 eu, it was imported to bulgaria at the price of, surpise surprise, 220 eu. How sweeeeeeeeeet.
  18. V-LB-03C Seeing Yanzl's wonderful doubledecker coach reminded me of a MOC I built not so long ago - an open-top Routemaster H2910, the original London Sightseeing Tour Bus (in 6-wide minifig scale). I really wanted to come close to the original with this one - unfortunately I still do not have any of those 2x3 big red windows to fill the "voids" there, but I do think that you get the picture, more or less. All in all, this one was made before I started using more snotty techniques and I guess it shows - it's a very simple build and nothing too fancy, however it does blend in nicely in any city - especially if you put it next to LEGO's original sets from the early 90s. I hope the driver doesn't mind that he has to sit on the right side... this one IS a typical non-continental creation after all, so in keeping with the original it had to feature the all too distinctive "driving on the wrong side of the road" feature... The stairs turned out well - what's also good is that the first deck features enough room for both seats AND standing passengers. Of course, this Routemaster features floor covering which should prevent you from slipping while bravely making your way up or down the stairs. The mad professor chap can't quite seem to make up his mind whether he should hurry up and take that nice free seat downstairs or go up for that unique hairdryer treatment... But as long as it's not raining (in London? Never!), I think he should go for the latter! More pictures available at MOCpages. Once again, I am well aware of the fact that this bus is really nothing special - neither in terms of construction, nor as an idea. However, it doesn't look too bad, besides I checked the Eurobricks Vehicles index and it doesn't feature all too many buses... So this one should be a nice addition to use as a city bus, alongside Yanzl's wonderful "long-distance" coach.
  19. Very neat :) It would look awesome in real bricks with minifigs in/around it! This has reminded me of my old Routemaster MOC... I'll upload it in a few minutes!
  20. Deal! I just looked at that last motorcycle I uploaded and it actually IS almost 4-wide... or at least part of it is - almost as wide as a small car I made a couple of months ago. I guess we do need some wider streets....
  21. Almost done and it ALMOST looks presentable, but not quite yet... you should remove that THING coming out of the roof since it's impossible for cars to land on top of the car, hence no viable action scene can take place there. Yeah, and speaking of that - make the roof flatter too! Let's face it, what's the use of a train which can't be used to shoot action scenes On a bit more serious note... it' absolutely brilliant :) The luggage rack, the doors, the entire bar atmosphere going on... it's a really great car, I'd love to see it as part of a train carriage or stopped at a train station!
  22. Ouch! Careful with that ax... erm, knife, Eugene! Btw, where'd you get that mirror sticker!?
  23. Did I mention that I meant 4 wide, as in 4 wide bikes?
  24. I'm starting a new club, "4wide4life"
  25. Thanks Laurie :] Regarding the motorcycle - actually it's not too detailed comparing it to my two other bikes. What is special about it though is the big-sized rear tire, making that one fit on this bike and actually constructing a mechanism to hold it in place in a sensible way is really what this one was about. It is definitely bigger than the classical city bikes and it's just about the same size as modern minifig bikes - albeit a tad bit lower, but then again - it's a cruiser. As to our motorbikes in general - well, to be perfectly honest, I'm the one in charge of our vehicle fleet in general. That includes both cars, buses (I might post some of those here later on, but I'd rather avoid "flooding" the place with our MOCs) and bikes. As far as the latter go - Asya is not really much of a motorcycle fan in general, she prefers designing buildings, so I'm the one who does the work when it comes to all things with wheels. She does however give me some great ideas regarding what car model I could add to our motor pool.
