That makes sense. I think that in that respect, the Black Knight should be roguier. Having a sentinel doesn't really fit the "Forlorn my knightly duties" aspect. The black knight is selfish, corrupt, and bullying, which is a really interesting set of characteristics not usually associated with heroes. Sure they can still be good people, but their cowardice and self-serving nature can either get the better of them or be a tool for them to use in combat. Sentinel doesn't make sense really for a BK to have. They should make a cheap-shot as their Shield, I think. Either making money from it, or inconveniencing the opponent in a serious way. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Well, the Cleric-rogue class doesn't get gold... They do get to Hex though. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Heroica RPG - Quest #69: The Hook on the Other Hand

Sylph, seeing he wouldn't get much more out of the man at the moment, stepped off the stool. "Well, Natnail, I'm going to go to my room now. It's been a pleasure." He walked over to the stairs and walked up out of the sellsword's line of sight, waiting for the heros at the top, making no indication he was involved with the crew forming at the base of the stairs. -

"Huh." Stated Sylph, sounding impressed. "You took down one of those Heroica sellswords. Not bad. How's business been recently? Are you on a job right now?" -

Sylph grunted slightly, and rubbed his helmet. "Business must be good then? Drinks, women... all the things money can buy? What's the secret to your success?" -

"I'm Ambro... I was a low-caliber sellsword myself... 'till I took a hook to the head... I thought I'd seen you before. What's a well-known merc like yourself doing in a bar like this?" -

Sylph accepted the bottle. "No. I know I've seen you before." Stated Sylph as if trying hard to remember something. "You see, I recently lost most of my long term memory in a freak shipping accident. I'm trying to make sense of my past now, and it's hard. Not to mention, my face was completely disfigured." Sylph stated naturally with the gruff male voice. "Rum?" he offered, gesturing to the bottle he recently acquired. "Where do you work? What's your name?" -

OoC: Oooh! Let's all pay 1 gp to get inspired! Also, Erik, before we get into a fight, I'm going to lend you my Hide and Seal you. "Interesting. Thank you. I'm sure if I can think of any other questions, I'll be able to ask you once we get to the room. I think I'll question the guests..." Sylph nodded his head slightly, and slowly walked towards the bar. "A bottle of rum please?" Sylph asked the bartender, not really caring if he got a reply, but placing 8 gold coins on the table, keeping whatever remained. He sat down on the stool. He looked over at the unsavory individual. "You seem familiar." He stated in a gruff voice. "Do I know you?..." (OoC: Sylph's bluffing, he wasn't on 28.) -
Well that sucks. Stupid black knights taking all my Robe funds. But in all seriousness, that's definitely too UP... No Party would ever include a BK. 'Snow Man can stop us now!!! ~Insectoid Aristocrat

That's a fair point. Black Knight don't seem the type willing to protect the party like a true knight. The extortion aspect is interesting though. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

Yes, but I don't HAVE any of those. I only have mah hood and for the future, a robe of the Archmage, and maybe something else, maybe not. 7 SP for me. Also, Sylph couldn't care less about the cloth trade. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

"I see." Stated Sylph plainly. "I know little of business or politics, but I am aware that the two Trade Families seem to possess an inordinate quantity of power here in Eubric. I just meant to ask to determine if he might have perhaps gotten into a deal with the wrong individual or, organization... But from what you tell me that wouldn't seem to be the case. What about the day of the incident. Did anything unusual occur? Did you see your mentor talking with any strangers outside of business?" -

"I'm Sylph. Sylph Solanum." Sylph stated simply. -
I suppose you're right. Mechanically it feels like a selfless act, but in-context of the game, your interpretation seems more apt. I see it as an exhaustion or loss-of-essence thing, which is why I saw it as semi-self-sacrificial. Fair point. We're better than Jacks of All Trades. I do also agree that, while Druids can get as-high-an-SP-as-any-other-non-knight-related-class, their potential to Tank will always be limited by lack-of-shield. Doesn't mean they can't stand in the Back Row with their modest maybe-up-to-8 SP and their high health and counterstrike while healing. ~Insectoid Aristocrat

"What manner of wares do you trade in? How recently did you arrive in Eubric, and... did you mention why you came here? I'm pleased to know you left the room in its state. It must have been... difficult." Sylph eyed the bar, noting the new figure. He seemed somewhat familiar, as if Sylph had seen him recently before. it must have been someone from Heroica. -
That doesn't sound like a bad idea. It would somewhat devalue an SP defying weapon in the hands of a BK, but other than that it seems OK. Maybe the BK could deal damage wx3+p damage and stun (unlike the sorcerer that steals and stuns, the possibility of KOing the enemies making the stun not too OP.) or, better yet, the BK steals n gold and has an x chance of blinding a few/all enemies... Or maybe some derivative of those. I like blind. It fits with the trait, but it may be OP. It could be argued that the potential to stun oneself kind-of goes against the self-serving feel of a BK in the first place. Fair enough. The ability to use shield's the only boon they get over all. I forgot about healing staffs. Still, just because I don't Tank (yet... we'll see how much SP I can get. I'm saving up my dough for some nice magicy robes...), doesn't mean it's not possible... And being in the back row essentially doubles one's SP automatically, so I still think it's capable of being a Jack. Their only 'problem' is the lack of carrying a shield (and maybe also that their shield doesn't dish-out damage, although with potential for poison or SP decreasing modinfiers on Weapons, I'd take an improved chance to hit over dishing out huge quantities of Dmg any day.) Furthermore, barring Prophets, you can't beat that 50% chance to avoid negative effects from a special, nor can you top removing negative effects and UN-KO-ING!!! on a Shield roll. In my opinion, Druids beat all others in Healing, and come very close in terms of Support. They're not meant to be Tanks or Damage-Dishers, but they can easily hold their own in either field. Maybe their supperiority in Healing removes them from the 'masters of none.' aspect though, so I'll concede there. (I still think they're the best class though, but I might be biased. ) ~Insectoid Aristocrat

"Indeed." Stated Sylph humbly. "So, your mentor was murdered? Here? Do you have any idea who might want your mentor dead?" Sylph asked. "Ah, Hello." Stated Sylph warmly upon being greeted by Nessa. "I am Sylph Solanum. Druid. We both have a connection to nature it seems. Wonderful." -
It's the girl in the hood. Never trust hooded/cloaked figures.
