  1. This topic has been discussed more than once already: Buy a set simply to sell it for profit? Are LEGO 2011 sets' values increasing? You will certainly be able to sell the set for more than the retail price once it is discontinued. However, it is up to you to decide whether the chance of earning 100-200€ a few years from now is worth the hassle of keeping the sealed box in perfect condition all this time. Since you already bought the set, I'd say keep it and resell it in a few years, given that you can resist to open it that long. I'd also say if you're at it, stock up on the maersk train and other modulars as well. If you're going to do it, do it right
  2. They could at least supply online stores and their own shop@home with eco boxes, since physical box size does not matter when shopping online, and smaller boxes also make for smaller packages sent to the customers. Regarding a possible loss of sales: I'm sure the marketing guys at Lego could come up with some ingenious super manipulative idea that would make up for the reduced box size. If Lego was really serious about it and spent some money on it, that is.
  3. Thanks meyerc13. You're right, Steven Asbury is producing oustanding MOCs, his folder on brickshelf is my favourite one. I have to admit that I rarely visit mocpages. This site really lacks an image gallery functionality, I got sick very quickly of hitting the back button every time after I zoomed in on a picture.
  4. So you are indeed a lucky one. Watch out though, the dark ages might still hit you eventually... Only good thing about it is you'll have more of the deciding factor left.
  5. Welcome to Eurobricks, it's always nice to have another lurker leaving the shadows Exactly how I felt at the end of my own dark ages. Super Star Destroyer? I see you're going for the big ones already, keep it up (as long as your wallet lasts, that is). And don't forget to put together a MOC yourself once in a while
  6. Hi Gustaff, welcome to EB! I'm not very active on forums myself, but I'd say just post away as long as you don't break any rules So you didn't have any 'dark ages' yourself? Guess you're one of the lucky ones then: no regretful looking back at all the old sets you missed during your Lego abstinence.
  7. Nice work, the blue rover type vehicle looks great! And I spot a fire truck, excellent . Vincent is right though, the fire truck needs more details. How about making some compartements at the back?
  8. Thanks Poison Ivy for the big compliment. Make sure to check out more Lego fire vehicles on flickr and brickshelf, because there are so many great builders that have much more skill than me . The vehicle creations of Ralph S. are the best that I personally have seen yet. He has been great inspiration for everything I've done so far (thanks Ralph!), do check him out if you haven't already! Looking forward to seeing your station and the fleet, and good luck with the parts. I noticed that those red door frames are quite pricey on bricklink, luckily I already had them.
  9. This wild west town is really staggering, I'm sure it will reach the needed 10k votes soon. It's sad that Lego discontinued its WW theme back in 1997 after only 2 years and never revived it. This makes me wish even more that Lego will pick up on this fantastic MOC and make it available to all of us. And I also would like to see the saloon be the first building to be made by Lego, but seeing that they might have objections against it, I voted for the post office.
  10. If memory serves right, the very first set I was given was this one: It's 6524 Blizzard Blazer from 1988. I think I was about 4 or 5 when I got it, and I guess I didn't know the meaning of the word 'building instructions' yet: I stacked all the pieces on top of each other, then went to my mom and asked her why it wouldn't look like the image on the box . I got hooked ever since, and not a single Christmas or birthday passed without a box of Lego on the gift table. Until my dark ages began, that is.

  12. If you just want to export the umodified auto-generated instructions into a pdf, you can also use a pdf printer like Bullzip pdf printer or cutePDF. Just export the instructions to HTML and open them in a browser, then click the print button and instead of you normal printer, choose the installed pdf printer as a device. The instructions will then be printed into a pdf with one step per page.
  13. Thought so. Unfortunately, dark red is one of the more expensive colors on bricklink, like most colors that are well suited for buildings But tan works well, too.
  14. Great work, I really like your Factory. It's a nice change from the usual town buildings and vehicles. The idea of a 'brick recycling plant' is wonderful, there is a nice little ironic touch about it. And the machinery inside is just fantastic, very impressive and absolutely convincing! I also like the mechanism for the front gate, simple but clever. On a side note, I think a red/dark red color scheme instead of tan would make the bulding look even better, it would resemble the impression of 'bricks' more in my opinion.
  15. Oh yeah, I'd love to see that fleet of fire engines when it's finished!
  16. If you auto generate the instructions with LDD and then save it as HTML, you will also get a parts list at the last page.
  17. Thanks! I've put a lot of emphasis on the compartements and the equipment stored inside them with all of the vehicles so far. I guess it became some kind of obsession for me I don't like it when details like doors or compartements on a model are only non functional mockups.
  18. You're welcome, I'm glad someone finds it useful . I've also lived in Berlin when I was very little (6 years old), living at the sixth floor. I watched the fire trucks going down the road near our building every day. Everytime I heard the sound of a siren, I ran to the windows as fast as I could
  19. Edit: I decided to upload in this topic any LDD file of fire related MOCs I make. I'm doing those files primarily for myself since I'm not able to keep my MOCs around for a long time and would like to rebuild them in the future. So why not share those files with everyone interested, I guess there are some people out there who will find it useful. Also, everyone who decides to play around with these files, feel free to post your suggestions and improvements to the original models in this thread. It would be most welcome! Rescue Pump (see EB Thread here): download lxf Turntable Ladder (see EB Thread here): download lxf Heavy Rescue (see EB Thread here): download lxf Original Post: Since I made a LDD model for my latest MOC anyway, I thought I would share it with you here on the LDD forum, so anyone interested could check out how I built it. You can find the original topic about the MOC here. It's the model of a german fire engine, a rescue pump (or 'Hilfeleistungslöschfahrzeug' in german), with quite some equipment stored inside (not all of it is part of the LDD model). I've also made some slight modifications to the front that differ from the verson I already posted here on EB.
  20. Hello everyone, I figured I should finally do a post in this forum since I've been a member for three years already. The last two and a half years I went into lurking state and checked on the site only occasionally, but recently I found enough time to get back to my Lego collection and to produce a new MOC (check it out here if you're interested). I'm 26 years old, living in the north of Germany in Lübeck, and I graduated from university last year (the reason I've got a bit more time at my hands before starting in a job). I was crazy about Lego as a kid, went into the dark ages like most of you and came back three years ago. I already wrote about it in my very first post on this site back then. This site features so many incredible Lego creations and fantastic builders, it's a real treasure for AFOLS and also the most useful resource for me about Lego related topics. I hope I'll be able to contribute to it in the future and share my own MOCs with likeminded people. So see you around fellow AFOLs and TFOLs!
  21. You don't have to buy it, just build it! I tried to upload the LDD instructions on my Flickr page, but it's too many images for a standard account. Bad luck I guess. Edit: I uploaded my LDD file, see first post.
  22. Thanks everyone for the positive feedback, I'm glad you all like it. Especially the fact that actual firefighters acknowledged some of the details makes me happy, I was trying to keep as close to reality as possible. To answer some questions: If you're interested in that: I added some notes on one of the flickr images: link. Also, I think laix and Scott will be able to give you very in depth explanation to every piece of equipment if you wish... You're right, black would look much better. Unfortunately I don't have that piece in any other color than brown. Same with the window frames above the rear mudguards, they are also brown but should be red. But I didn't feel like blowing money on Bricklink for such small details, I spent enough money already on new sets... Probably yes... Since I'm not a firefighter myself, I didn't know that company until now. But after doing some googleing, it seems to me that most fire brigades in Germay are using tools made by Weber, so I guess they also appear on most photos and images I used as a reference.
  23. Glad I could help. With 'jutty' I meant that little balcony popping out of the wall above the front door. You could expand it to something more complex, sort of like what the Green Grocer has.
  24. Nicely done, especially considering the limited brick selection you had to choose from. I think the next step should be a pitched roof (assuming you have the parts), that would look much better than the flat one. And the smal jutty (is that the right word?) would be a good starting point for further expansion and to add more decoration to the facade . Regarding your question about flickr: I just started my own flickr account a few hours ago, do the following to post images in a thread: * click 'share with others' on top of any of your flickr photos * select 'hmtl/bbcode' in the drop down menu * make sure to select the 'bbcode'-radio button on the bottom * select one of the image sizes from the drop down list, then copy the whole content of the text box * paste the copied text into your post on the forum, and you will get a nice image with integrated link to you flickr page
  25. V-LF-8A After a long break due to lack of time, I recently got back to my post dark age Lego collection, and started building another... fire engine. Because there can never be enough Lego fire engines. So here is what i came up with. It's the third model I built, and this time I tried really hard to make it look like the real thing. Like with my previous mocs, I stuffed as much equipment as possible into the vehicle, and there's still room for 4 minifigs . More images can be found on my flickr album. Comments and critique are welcome! Edit: I uploaded my LDD file on the LDD forum for anyone interested.
