Yup that's what I meant by flexing. where the wing wouldn't stay level. Or they wanted to make sure enough was different to get guys like me to spend money on te same set again.
-
Yup. Doesn't help if the sticker is on backwards. lol.
-
After messing around with both the 8088 and 7259 for a while now, just wanted to point out you have the center clear side windows backwards. The triangle "window" part should be facing front. And just like you, if you see my review, I have my window on backwards too. lol. Your mods mkae it more evident(sp?) but if you curve the wings, doesn't it look like SW ripped off the Bird of Prey from Star Trek?
-
I'm happy you guys like it. I HATE taking pictures of something white on a white background. lol! IlikePi- Not sure about the text. UPDATE: Hmm for some reason its 1pt size different. Is everybody having a hard time reading this? ATM I can't edit. I know my son wants Cad Bane. I have a feeling the set is gonna be average but cost more. I think LEGO is catching on that people buy and sell the minifigs so they raise the price of sets with unique minis. I remember how much the set with Yoda cost or the one with Mace Windu (working lightsaber) cost. Ok, well that set was large.

This review will be on the 8088 ARC-170 Starfighter. From Lego.com: Set Name: 8088 ARC-170 Starfighter Theme: Star Wars Released: 2010 Pieces: 396 Price: $59.99/$42.59EURO/37.19GBP Here are some quicklinks Lego.com, Brickset, Bricklink Wanna see some pictures? Let's start with the normal box arts and manuals! Box art front Interesting, the picture is in a similar orientation as the old box art for the 7259. In this box, you get all new figures when compared to the old 7259. I like the planet background. Being the old version was bomber, this would make sense. This new one is a Starfighter so a fighting background would be better but would clutter it up a bit too much. Box art back Back of the box. Shows what the ARC-170 can do. Like the cockpit opening up. How to open the wings by turning the gear in the back of the ship. And how to fire the two missiles located under the ship. You would "hit" the gear on the back of the ship, which would hit the back of the missiles to launch them. The older 7259 dropped bombs when you pulled the gear on the back of the ship. Parts bags Nothing unusual. Lego numbered the bags for easy build. Sometimes I wonder why they don't just make one larger bag instead of two small bags, like they did for bag #1. Sticker sheet Each window has a sticker. And so does the center cockpit side panels. That's the stickers on the upper right of this photo. Look carefully, it's a picture of a mini-fig hands over a control panel. The older 7259 didn't use a sticker on a solid color part, they used a clear Lego piece with a clear sticker with lines. So you could see inside the middle cockpit. Note: Be careful with clear stickers! Once you put them on, the glue comes off and stays on the Lego piece. And it'll get real UGLY fast! Minifigs Front shot. Kit-Fisto, Captain Jag and a clone pilot. The R4-P44 droid absent from picture due to maintenance. Kit's face is bad. It's all rubber so it's molded well but ugly. I like Captain Jag's helmet. Very nice detail. Rear shot. Kit-Fisto, Captain Jag (helmet removed) and a clone pilot. As you can see, while with the helmet on, the orange stripe on the minifigs head looks great for a visor, without the helmet, his head looks like a cruel joke where someone put suntan lotion on his head. Manual cover Nothing much here. Same picture as the front of the box, except missing some explosions. Looks cleaner, but not as exciting. Parts List Above and beyond that the 7259 is a bomber, Lego did make some changes to the parts which is good! The canopy #4581452. They added a lip to the front so it'll stay on a 2x2 stud now. About time they did that. The engine thrusters area BIGGER on the 8088. Like one size larger white "wheels" #4999690. Random page Same thing as the back of the box. And yes, the missiles are fixed straight. But unless you hit the "gear" on the back hard, it'll come out at a sloping angle and miss the nose of the ship. I guess they wanted to keep in line with the SW:Clone Wars where these are not bombers, but Starfighters. Random page 2 Full color sheet. Nice action shot. Of course, all the ships are new 2010 sets for you to buy. Build process Quick note, here is the missiles All hidden and stuff. Interesting clear piece. I could be wrong as I didn't take out my ARC-170 instructions, but that's the same thing they used to drop bombs. You fill it at the top and it funnels to the bottom. Here it is loaded. You can see how the gear rod would strike the back of where the missiles would be loaded. The computer dark grey sloped brick is a sticker. I miss when those used to be printed bricks. Underside shot. I have no idea why they use the light brown parts. And here is the finished body. And yes, I put the center-side stickers on back wards! Since its a clear sticker, if I pull it off, it'll be ruined. Maybe nobody will notice the hands are upside down? :) Here is a view of the engine mounted on one side and opposite view of the unmounted engine. If you click on the picture, you can see the blue rubber band that allows the folding wings to open and close. Here is the middle wing. Top and underside. You can see all the different ways Lego tried to make the wing stronger. Too bad it doesn't add to the overall look of the wing like greebles would. Here is a shot of the finished wing and the top and underside of the folding smaller wings. At least those are cleaner in design, but since they aren't long, you don't need reinforcement parts. Finished photos. Front view. Photos are small because they are wider than they are tall. Click on the photo for a better view. Rear photo. More I look at it, even though the front part of the engine is huge, from the rear, it really looks very sleek looking. I like it. Side view. Here is where you can see the rear guns better. On the older set #7259, it only had one rear gun. Here is a photo of the wings open. This was a hard shot as I couldn't keep the set on the ground and still open the wings. I had to make it "hover". Comparing the 8088(new) vs 7259(old) Arc-170 sets. I hope you like this shot. It came out better than I thought. The left side is the 8088 and the right is the older 7259. While looking so much a like, many things are changed. The nose of the old looks more Lego-ish. But looks like what you saw in the movie. The 8088 nose is closer to the clone wars series on TV. The engine is bigger on the new 8088, but while it looks like a engine, you can tell it's a wheel rim. The 7259 looks like a jet engine intake. What it intakes in space is beyond me. The green color on the nose is longer on the 7259 and continues under the cockpit. The wings are made differently and as you'll find out shortly, the gear to fold the wings is done different as well. Top view of the cockpit. 8088 on top and 7259 on the bottom. The computers on the 7259 is painted. 8088 is stickers. The rear nacelles next to the rear gun is painted on the 7259 and it's done very well. The 8088 is just a small single sticker. The 7259 center area is actually hinged to open as you can see in the picture. I like that. Also the 7259 set used smoked clear plastic for the center sides, unlike the 8088 which used a sticker to "simulate" a porthole. I guess the plus on that one, is the "white" that the 7259 sticker used for that smoked plastic, you can really tell that was a sticker. You'll also notice the 7259 doesn't use stickers on the cockpit canopy. From the top view like this, the engines looks more thought out on the 8088. The 7259 looks like they were just trying to figure out how to add an engine and a way to fold the wings on it. If I remember right, you load the bombs under the R5-D4 droid in the 7259. Notice the front canopy on the 7259 doesn't have a hinge on it. You just pull it off. And finally here is a closeup view of the gearing for the folding wings. The 8088 on the left and 7259 on the right. Lego used a rotating ball for the first. Nice idea. The use of the white rubber band blended well. On the 8088, they went technic on use. I with the yellow stud they used was grey. Would've matched better. They also used a blue rubber band. Not sure why they made it loop around a wider area, except to maybe have less flexing of the wing. Comments: I'll start off as I normally do and rant about the price. This unit has 396pcs and going from the old standard of .10 cents a piece, this set should cost around $39.60. At the new standard rate of .17 cents a piece, it comes out to $67.32. I paid $67. Wow, I hit it right on the nose. But it's so hard to feel like a good deal to pay so much for so little pieces. BTW, TRU had it for $86.99. Click on it. My rant is done. Overall I LOVE this set. I like most Star Wars Lego sets. It looks like what it's supposed to be, but what I don't like is when they previously released a set and they didn't improve on it by much. It is cleaner and more up to date, but as you read in the comparison of the old set, many things was done right the first time. Maybe if I can force myself to dismantle both sets, I'll make one set with the good of both sets. My rating Playability: 4/5 This is playable. Made for kids. Minifigs are nice, and where else can you get a green R2 head? Design: 3/5 Right in the middle. Design is close. But many things that was good on the old set, they didn't use on this set. Like when they used printed pieces on the 7259 or a clear window instead of a fake sticker to look like a window. Build experience: 3/5 It's made for ages 8+. My son can build this. But the stickers are a royal pain because this set uses a lot of clear stickers, and clear stickers are harder to remove without damaging the clear area of the sticker. Overall: 4/5 I think this would make a great set. Get it for MSRP if you can. I know a lot of places are sold out, but more will come in. Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed it! All photos are click able for larger, bigger-than-life picture sizes! You can see all photos used here, including the larger build pictures: 8088 ARC-170 Starfighter.

Don't worry, it'll come down later. I see penty of boxes on the shelves. It'll sell to guys like me who just can't wait. Doh. I'm sure it'll go down in price. Btw, even Vader's ship was unreal price when it first came out. I.. yes. $37.99. Click on the price.
-
I'm with you on that. It should be cheaper. But ah well. LEGO=Crack for good kids. lol. or AFOLs.
-
If you didn't tell me this is a new creation from LEGO, I would've thought it was another Bionicle series.
-
Thanks for the comments. Yeah, the helmet looks big but I guess all of them do to in one way or another.
-
That's too bad. I think they had something going there. Just that it got off slow. Command Center, the Helicopter was cool. But they made many small ones that was just average.
-
Did I miss a posting, or is there nothing about new Agent sets for 2010?
-
You mean the UCS T.Interceptor? Oh that one wobbles bad. I have it. This one shakes a bit too, but nothing that would make it feel unstable. About the same looseness as Dath Vader's Tie.
-
No idea what you are talking about.

This review will be on the 8087 Tie Defender From LEGO.com: Set Name: 8087 Tie Defender Theme: Star Wars Released: 2010 Pieces: 304 Price: $54.99/$34.68EURO/31.19GBP Here are some quicklinks Lego.com, Brickset, Bricklink Wanna see some pictures? Let's start with the normal box arts and manuals! Box Front Box art is very nice. I can't figure out why they included a Stormtrooper. Maybe a hanger crew to load all those missiles. But not a Stormtrooper. Box Rear It's funny that the pilot is loading his own ship. I'm curious on how he's gonna get up to the launcher. Interesting thing is thy show the cockpit rotates. I never knew the real (Ha!) one rotated. And I used to fly this on the old PC computer game. Some other things they show is the new ARC-170/Droid Tri-Fighter/ and Freeco Speeder. On a side note, I hope they release new sets from season 2 of Clone Wars. Many new ships are now being shown. Instruction manual cover Like other sets, LEGO is using the same cover as the front of the box. Not bad. Random page Here are some things the fighter can do. The cockpit really does stay stationary. I was going to do a video, but I couldn't get a nice clip. There are 6 flick-fire missiles. That's the most I've seen on a fighter. The cockpit opens up to fit the pilot. Besides placing the pilot down, there is nothing else in the cockpit. No controls. There is room to add something like control sticks but they didn't. Parts list Nothing fancy. Except that propeller part that looks like it's from a technic set. #4568027 Parts Bags Sometimes I have to wonder about LEGO and what sets it decides to use numbers. Bag #1 is used to build the cockpit and minifigs. Bag #2 holds all the wing parts. With just 300pcs. I'm sure they could've done away with the bag numbering. Especially when you consider the wings are repeats 6x. Extra Parts Yup. That's it. Nothing more and nothing less. The build process Ok, why the red part? Can't you get that same part in grey or black? And as you see, I don't think that red piece is used for anything. Here is the rear shot. Now you can see what that tri-technic piece is used for. Center hub to rotate the cockpit on. Or rotate the wings on, depending how you look at it. The thruster is very simple by design. Nothing to fancy, but it does look like the drawings I've seen of the rear of the Tie Defender. It's funny when you think abut it. The top hatch is supposed to open to let in the pilot. Yet, almost every single LEGO Imperial ship with this type of hatch never uses the hatch. The front dome always folds open in some way. Ah yes. This was a easy photo. Going from left to right. Step 1, 2, and 3. Now you have the mounting arms for each of the wing sections. Very smart. And by building it this way, they made the wings easy to come off for some blow-up play action. Hey.. Darth Vader's Advance Fighter used wings that was mounted this way too. Here you have the finished cockpit module. I like it. Looks like a ship all by itself. Even without the wings. It even could be made as a fighter class variant of Palpatine's Shuttle due to be released later this year. And the Above two photos show the top and underside of the wings and top and undersides of the completed wing sections. Very bare-bones. But I guess there isn't much you can do to enhance the details without making the wings heavy. You can also see each of the flick-fire missiles on each wing tip. No way to shoot all of them at once. Or even two at a time. Oh well. Finished photos Here is a finished photo with a closeup of the cockpit open with the pilot and Imperial Stormtrooper. I have no idea why LEGO didn't at least include controls in the cockpit. Maybe if I can some spare parts, I'll add something as I'm pretty sure the clear canopy can house a console and two antenna sticks for controls. Isometric front view. Go ahead, I know you want to click on it for a larger close-up view. Isometric rear view. Yeah....Looks sweet. Front view Rear view Comments: When I first heard LEGO was going to release a Tie Defender I almost jumped out of my seat. I was so hoping it was going to be a UCS. Then I saw the fuzzy pre-shots of the box. Knowing it wasn't going to be a UCS from that photo, I was a bit sad. But was going to buy it anyways. Then I saw the final box photo and piece count. Meh.... Sounds like the same league as Darth Vader's Tie Advance and other Tie fighter's LEGO has released over the years. It didn't look great. Finally I saw it at the store. I couldn't resist and bought it. Did I mention TRU here in Hawaii was trying to sell it at $70? After building it, I'm happy I got it. And bought it at a not-so-reasonable $54.99. I think it could've sold for $39.99-$45.99. Only thing that bothered me was the cockpit interior design. It's so LEGO Star Wars of 10 years ago. No controls and just a place to put the minifig. And again, I still don't see why they added a Stormtrooper. My rating Playability: 4/5. This is very "swooshable" for kids. I can't take it flying at work, but doing a dogfight between a X-Wing and this will work. I guess that's why they built it at this scale. To match the other sets that are out. Design: 3/5. You already know my concerns for the cockpit. And semi-plain look of the fighter. Still, it does look like the Tie Defender. Build experience: 2/5. You don't need to be a pro at making this. Bags are numbered. And in this set, you really build this part six times. And that's 80% of the set. By the 3rd wing, I could do it with my eyes closed. Hmm... I hope I didn't leave any parts out when I did that.. Overall: 3.5/5. I hate to give a .5 but it's not great enough to give a 4, and it's really as good as other sets so it warrants more than a 3. Would I buy it again? Yes! Would I pay the amount I had to pay again? No. I'll wait for clearance. Or at least a 25% off LEGO's MSRP price. Not my local store prices. Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed it! All photos are click able for larger, bigger-than-life picture sizes! REVIEW: 8057 Wreck Raider
starstreak replied to starstreak's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
NP. That's what I'm known for when I do reviews. :) I just hope she or you have to pay $14.99 like I did. My son had better like his for Christmas. -
This review will be on the 8057 Atlantis Wreck Raider. From LEGO.com about this newest set! Set Name: 8057 Wreck Raider Theme: Atlantis Released: 2010 Pieces: 64 Price: $14.99/$9.60EURO/8.14GBP Here are some quicklinks Lego.com, Brickset, Bricklink Wanna see some pictures? Let's start with the normal box arts and manuals! Box front Very well done. Everything is shown on a closeup view. I do like the design. Box rear Yup. You can see how the fans can rotate to help on getting a quick turn on things. The back also shows you how the flick-fire harpoons work. I like how the diving gear fits on the minifig. It slips on versus something that requires the head to be removed and seated on. Like the old scuba tanks. Front of manual Nothing special. It's the duplicate of the box cover. Parts list Part number 4251563 is something I don't see much of. It fits on the underside of 4566849. Random page in the manual. Many small Atlantis sets coming out for its first year. I guess they want to make sure everybody has a chance to buy something without costing a arm and a leg. Then again, if you bought it during Christmas at TRU, it still cost you a Arm. Sticker sheet I think they did well with the stickers. Pretty much all the stickers ared wisely. Only thing I wish they didn't do was include bubbles for the vents. That means I couldn't use it for anything but underwater. Oh. The red matched perfectly with the red of the Lego. Looks good. Parts bags Wow. Two whole bags. Not much to see here. I'm not even sure what determines what makes a piece a Lego be in one bag versus the other bag. Extra Parts Wow. Only two pieces this time. The Build process I like how the middle swoops over the front. Gives it a "retro" look for some reason. As some pointed out, I'm not sure if I like how the 1x2 grey pieces face sideways on the back. Doesn't match too well. But I guess this was the easiest way to add the fans that can rotate. See the final picture below. Here is the final shot of the Raider. Looks very cool and it looks like it would work underwater. Still, the way they stuck on the handlebar, if the diver is wearing his fins, he can't stand or sit well. But I guess when you watch those undersea documentaries, the divers put the vehicles in the water and pretty much just hang on to them to be pulled along underwater. Side view Here you can see the harpoons and the fans/ Strong forward thrust. I hope he never gets in front of the fan. There's not grill to cover the fans. He'll be chopped up! Front View Rear view Mini fig diver and Atlantian(I think) Oh I so much like the diver. That tank and diver outfit looks so good. The shark on the other hand, reminds me of a shark on a old Scooby Doo cartoon. Comments This was a good set. At first, I didn't think any of the Atlantis sets was going to be worth it. But as the sets are slowly coming out, some look good. Like this one. Only thing I didn't like was the price I had to pay for it. My rating: Playability: 5/5. This set is very playable. It was made for kids to pretend with. Nothing breaks apart that you wouldn't know where it would go if it came off. Design: 3/5. It's designed well. Personally I didn't like the stickers with the bubbles. And the two 1x2 pieces that face sideways look out of place. Build experience: 1/5. Nothing hard. All parts fit together easy. Only thing is you might need help with the stickers if you want them on straight. And because some of the stickers have lines on them, you can tell if you put them on crooked Overall: 4/5. It's NOT worth $14.99 I paid. But it's worth it if you can get it for MSRP. The minifigs are awesome. And I know my son would have fun playing with it. My son will be getting one for Christmas. Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed it! All photos are click able for larger, bigger-than-life picture sizes! You can see all photos used here, including the larger build pictures: 8057 LEGO Wreck Raider.

Very easy build. I just like it because the purple color is a nice purple.
-
Did I miss anything, or did some of the new sets come out? Did someone say TRU got them? Like the Tie Defender or something?
-
I'm glad my reviews help you see things you normally wouldn't take a second look at in the stores. :)

This review will be on the 5982 Smash'n'Grab from the Space Police collection A quote from www.lego.com about the 5982 Smash'n'Grab. Set Name: 5982 Smash'n'Grab Theme: Space Police Released: 2009 Pieces: 188 Price: $22.99/$15.60EURO/14.11GBP Here are some quicklinks Lego.com, Brickset, Bricklink Wanna see some pictures? Let's start with the normal box arts and manuals! Box art front I must say the box art for the Space Police sets are getting better. My son is a Space Police fan. I'm not, but this set caught my eye and I just had to buy it. Box art rear Again, nice picture. Shows the different things this set can do. Like having a asteroid ATM machine that opens, Two missiles that really shoot by the way of a ramming rod. Unlike the normal flick-fire missiles you see on some sets. The crane works. Instruction manual Nothing too special. Duplicate of the original box art. Part listing The parts page. The purple pieces I wasn't thrilled with until I built the unit. It's a nice purple. And the helmet looks neat. Not the normal smooth helmet. Bags of parts Only four bags for parts. Nothing numbered so you're gonna have to struggle. Lol. Sticker sheet Very small set. I think they could've made the set with a screened on button layout for the atm buttons than a sticker. The flame decals are neat. They work well in covering the ugly defects on the nacelles. It seems all colors of the nacelles have those circle "birthmarks" on them from where they detach it from the mold. Extra parts My extra parts. Hey I got a extra red visor. I see other people got a solid black one. Hmm this set uses a lot of fluorescent pieces. Build process First is the ATM. Finished. Interesting idea. I myself wouldn't put money in a ATM that is in an asteroid field. Btw, you get two 100 bills. They get deposited in the back door. Wow, I haven't seen those thrusters since I had the original Space sets from before the 80's. The roadster space mobile. Here is where you can see the shafts that would "hit" the flick-fire missiles to shoot it off. In case you're wondering this is the front grill laying flat. Looks like fangs. Flame stickers are now covering those ugly warps on the nacelles. I wish the flames lined up better. I mean it's straight, but you see the yellow angle line in the front? It's not matching the angle of the nacelle so I couldn't put it all the way forward. All done! The engines and the crane are all in place. I thought while I was building the engines, it could be ridden on because of those handle bars. But it's really just decorations. Finished photos Here you can see how the crane can hold the ATM. All joints are articulated for the crane. And the ATM seems to fit perfectly. Officer:"Don't tell me, your the ATM tech and you're just taking it back to the office.." I like the new helmet the Police is using. Even the orange visor is interesting. Front view of the vehicle. I pity him driving. With a flat head, it looks like grandma trying to see over the dashboard. Top front view. The stickers look good on it. Everything fits well. Only thing I don't like is why they put his tool and gun on the outside of the vehicle. Rear view without the ATM. Here you can see the polls used to hit the missiles that would shoot out in the front. I think the engines looks awesome. I think the side profile where you can see the technic part with the holes in it looks a bit out of place. Same with the external gun and tool holder. Side view. Looking good! It bulky. Looks like it could ram its way into a building if it needed to. Comments This was a good set. I don't normally buy Space Police but the color grew on me. The figures are good. The helmet and body armor is nice, and even the bad guy is designed well. My rating: Playability: 4/5. This set is very playable. It was made to be played with. Some stuff falls off easy but I think it's good for safety. Like the swords in the front grill. Design: 3/5. It's designed well, but I think the ATM looked like they couldn't think of what he could steal or haul away. Build experience: 5/5. Nothing hard. All perts fit together easy. Only thing is you might need help with the stickers if you want them on straight. Overall: 4/5. I think it's worth the money. If for parts or minifigs or just for the cool purple colors. It's fun to play with. My son will be getting one for Christmas. He doesn't know this yet. :) Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed it! All photos are click able for larger, bigger-than-life picture sizes! You can see all photos used here, including the larger build pictures: 5982 Smash'n'Grab

Thanks! I liked the set. But it's smaller than I thought and two, the red isn't the red on the box. Closer to the color in my photos.

Daily Mirror Free Lego deal comes to the City (and Creator)
starstreak replied to Big Pete's topic in LEGO Town
I wouldn't mind getting the steam roller and Helicopter. I wish I could order it. -
I finally had time to mod it. You know. it looks so much better that way. I wonder why they didn't do that way in the first place.
-
Worst minifig would be the Ewoks. Pretty much just a mold and maybe two colors.
-
All I ask is for the Tie Defender to be a +1 in workmanship over the darth vader tie fighter.. The one with the minifig. They can release a UCS version of the Tie Defender. I wouldn't mind. :)
