LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Clone OPatra replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Looking again, I agree. It's the bar of plain white that really throws it off and creates such a marked contrast against the torso with a lot of dark printing on it. Also, I completely forgot the real name of Imperial Inspection and just made it up Minifigure scaling does cause issues and it can be ok for something to be a bit bigger than it should be (like Luke's Landspeeder for example), but LEGO's recent AT-RTs are just so obviously wayyy too big. Mind you I don't actually have that 2010 Turbo Tank since at the time I was mostly only buying <$30 sets and Bricklinking the Jedi, so I don't know if it was kind of unstable, but it certainly looks the best size-wise and should be playable enough. Maybe I'll build one now. -

The hips and legs originating with General Hux had a white vertical line down part of the center and a white horizontal line, for Hux's jacket under his trenchcoat as seen below. LEGO has now updated the print to remove all of those middle lines, leaving only the long sides. -

To me the best one was the one included in the 2010 Clone Turbo Tank. Correct size proportionally and looked actually light and lean! Also partial to the BARC in the 2011 Clone Battle Pack. I think people have forgotten LEGO's cardinal rule when it comes to army-building troopers: LEGO is going to change designs and piss you off. They changed the Stormtrooper design soooo many times. It's no surprise they've done a new clone design. And I get why army builders are annoyed. Personally I like what they're going for with the helmet but I've never liked the mould. It's too tall and the "chin" portion is too large and awkward. The original plain Clone Wars design on it looked squished to me but could be forgiven because it was "cartoony" and the Episode 3 design wasn't much better. When they last did white hips, way back in those Stormtroopers with leg prints in Palpatine's Arrival, it looked awkward, and it still does. Even if it's technically "accurate", it comes across as wrong and too much white. Still, all in all, I applaud what LEGO has done and it feels like genuine care was put into it. -
Anybody who thinks the final product completely disregards the submission isn't getting past their initial reaction and actually looking at any of the details. New Elementary's article showing the prelim versions, or just comparing the original and final versions, reveals that many elements are quite similar. The layout is practically the same. The stairs are where the stairs were. The multiple levels are where they were. Even small details down to the placement of windows and the ship's wheel are the same. It's not like the designers said "cool, people voted for a pirate fort built out of a shipwreck - let's make a completely different pirate fort made out of a shipwreck from scratch". The objective truth is that they developed something out of the original submission and retained a lot of elements. That's the same as many LEGO Ideas sets like the tree house or the ship in a bottle, which have elements of the original submission while other aspects are re-worked and changed. Whether or not people like LEGO's final set is of course subjective, and yeah colour scheme and such make a big difference. LEGO Ideas has actually 100% tossed out an original model in favour of their own in the past. Steamboat Willie is the most egregious example. People voted for $20, maybe $30 USD max micro version of the Steamboat Willie ship, and LEGO designed their own from scratch at a much higher price point. The dinosaur skeletons set also bears almost less resemblance to its original submission than Barracuda Bay; besides for just being dinosaur skeletons, it's a completely different build.

I don't know. Sometimes "The dead speak!" Reports have come in from Denmark. Somehow.... Hermione's hair has returned. Ok I'll stop. The old hair seems just fine and still meets today's standards, if LEGO feels like resurrecting it. With the wide variety of hair pieces now, it always feels unsettling to me when two characters in the same property have the exact same hair. -

Every time I've had the thought "that can't be right, surely the leakers got it wrong" when it wasn't obvious, I've been wrong. The designers know their stuff, and I bet they had a discussion about it. If you just watch the films, which the sets are primarily based on, you wouldn't even really know Luna was supposed to be a year younger. It makes no difference in the plot. So, to avoid confusion, the designers probably gave all of the students who are peers the same length legs. Besides, anybody collecting the line and correcting these issues should already have a set of plain black mid legs from Neville in the first CMF -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 20. Rumors and discussion
Clone OPatra replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
What are people's plans for getting what they want from this series? I'm not a collector and I only buy what I want from each CMF, which in this case is 5 or 6 figures, but I wouldn't be going to the store and feeling packets this time. I guess that just leaves Bricklink really. Anyone else having to think about this for the first time? -

Usually I'd step in at this point before this sort of thing spirals, but Rick Rolling on a forum in text is well done. Let's try to keep it on track though please -

Now that there is legit stuff to talk about in regards to sets this year, please keep pure wishlisting out. What do I mean by "pure wishlisting"? Well, until we know exactly what's contained in each of the sets, speculation about details and what will be included is fine, and in fact on topic. Ideas, speculation, and desires about future potential sets is pure wishlisting, and shouldn't be here. This is all so that a coherent and readable discussion can continue about this year's sets. Thanks -

I'd prefer Vernon as a regular minifig. LEGO could finally make a "fat body" over the next attachment like a number of artists have done for customs minifig ideas, but if they do then we'll all start to kick and whine every time LEGO doesn't use it where we think they should! Just like when they don't use the mid legs or how they've never again used the long arms and legs from the original Toy Story line. -

A larger proportion of its prints have been outside of CMF series, see here. A lot from Star Wars, and many in premium or exclusive sets like big D2Cs or the Chinese New Year dinner, but not all. Clearly the Harry Potter line isn't quite given the budget it truly "needs" to deliver everything they're trying to deliver and the design team has to make choices. Even still, as fans we can critique, as I have done before about some of the choices in the last wave. For instance, the executioner in the Hagrid's Hut is nice, but I'd rather have a proper face for Krum if it was a choice between the executioner and that. Even Fenrir Greyback, he's a fine character and they've done a good job, but he's hardly important or memorable and I would've rather had a proper face and printed dress for Bellatrix. -

Yeah, what the heck. The LEGO Instagram account follows #legoleaks anyway. They'd see it sooner or later when someone inevitably reposts it as a post. Our policy is still no direct links and of course no embedding of leaked material. Describing how to find it is ok until told otherwise. -

Found it. Cool! I hope it doesn't only come with buildable Hedwig though. Given that the buildable Hedwig is rumoured to have opened wings, and it comes with in the snow Harry, I wouldn't be surprised. -

And now added to the first post as well! -
It's a one off. For the readability of the forum our policy is not to get rid of posts even when someone is banned. In this case Greg actually requested that we get rid of his posts, and in this case we honoured his request. Honestly this shouldn't matter to anyone. We Eurobricks staff are all just doing our best to keep Eurobricks readable and a friendly, happy and safe atmosphere for everybody here who wants to engage in a friendly and happy manner. All that said, this topic now has nothing to do with the original post, so I'm going to lock it.

Myrtle coming with a toilet paper roll would be very humorous now, though LEGO surely couldn't have planned that. I also can't think much of what she'd come with besides the diary, the egg or like a white life buoy to be part of a toilet? She doesn't really have any associated items, for obvious reasons, but they surely have to give her something. My eagerness to see this new wave is growing constantly, and I have to remember not to buy other LEGO that tempts me in order to save money for the main priority: HP! -
[MOC] Studio Ghibli - Laputa - The City In The Sky

Very nice micro depiction! Personally if anything Studio Ghibli gets through I'd want it to be a Totoro first, but their whole catalogue of films does have a lot of set potential. -

Good call! If that's the case, I'd be pleased. It's a nice and useful variant to build up more Gryffindors, but it's also not essential and wouldn't feel like LEGO throwing an extremely desirable figure into an otherwise not Minifigure-compatible set. -
A well-composed figbarf is a beautiful thing, and boy oh boy is this a wonderful figbarf! All of your choices are fantastic and such a novel idea to create a series of minifigs on this theme. I love it! Traditionally this would've gone in the minifig customisation forum but I think it's just fine here. And now it's frontpaged as well!

The old one wasn't the rubbery rubber like CMF Spooky Girl/Susan Bones or most Friends figures. It didn't have the shine of regular ABS, but it was completely firm. We've only seen the new one in a render so they would add false shine. IMO it was poor. The ground floor was basically empty. The DADA classroom was just ok, the best of the bunch. The hospital beds themselves were good builds but the interior of the space overall looks and feels awkward to me. Again, not trying to bash the set at all, I'm just saying that Hogwarts interiors haven't been strong in my opinion, though it doesn't bother me and I'm completely happy with the purchase. It's also something that's super easy to spruce up with your own parts. -

Though I agree with you, just be mindful that sass doesn't always ready well online and across cultures/languages. Thanks! At most what's in the Whomping Willow set is a Gryffindor dormitory, not common room. Besides the Great Hall itself, all of the Hogwarts interiors in the reboot have been a bit lackluster, so I'm not expecting much out of any Hogwarts set really. Dumbledore's office was especially laughable. Honestly I don't mind though; the sets are still stellar. -
This thread has gone mad. I wasn't here when it started, but there's way too many real world problems right now and always for whatever is happening in here on a LEGO forum site. Everyone who has thrown insults around can take this as a warning that next time staff will deal with them more sternly. I'm locking this now.

I had another look after your comment and I'm really not sure they're dual moulded. I see why you'd see that, but these rendered images are quite often misleading. It doesn't make much sense for the outfit either - he's in black robes and it's not like he wears high boots. It looks like just a trick of the render and bag design to me.
