True, I think part of the issue also arises from the fact that the party leader usually distributes the loot as opposed to it being a free for all. If the game was played more from a "you kill it, you loot it" style, a Black Knight's special would fit a little better.
-
I'd agree as well and think that Kintober's special was great, but just that it should be used in moderation. All of the points you made are good, I just don't think setting an absolute like a Black Knight should never be able to steal a weapon or artifact is a good policy. Of course someone abusing the system fully deserves to have no assistance from someone else, but you still didn't address in what way that aspect of their (Black Knight's) special is beneficial to them. Black knights, along with pretty much all of the rogue classes are built to be self beneficial. They aren't designed for team-work necessarily, they're designed for benefiting the individual player.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to not let them steal any artifact or weapon, after all it is their ability and they should be able to benefit from it on some occasions. Now of course don't let them steal every single thing, but I don't see what's so wrong with them being able to get a good piece of loot every once and a while. Then what is the point of them having that ability?

The man gazes quizzically at Nerwen. "What interest to you is the dragon's name? Again, what purpose do you have in extending our conversation? Do you mean to go or not?" Dyric reaches the penthouse. -

"It has been nigh 200 years, I doubt I would be able to find the witch. I am not sure that the alchemy will work, but it is the one faint glimmer of hope that remains for me. The one and perhaps only thing that I might have restored back to me. You now have my tale, what is your course of action?" -

"Allow me to tell you a story Cronk, as it seems you will not be persuaded until you have the whole of it. Many years ago, for it was many and not the several that I told you before, in the land of Dastan there lived a young boy. Every morning the boy would go outside his door to watch the famed dragons of Dastan take to the sky from the mountains beyond his village. As the years passed the boy grew and so did his fascination with the mythical creatures that soared high above his little world, until at last he was no longer a young boy, but a strong and courageous man. The man bid farewell to the people of his tiny village for he was setting off to meet the objects of his enchantment face to face. Over valleys and through cracks and crevices the man plodded upon his way, unbeknownst to him that his every movement was marked by the legendary beasts. At long last, half starved, clothes worn to rags, and his mind on the brink of insanity, the man came upon a cave. Not a common cave mind you, but a dragon's cave. The man trembled as he heard the beasts raging breath within the maw of the cavern, steeling himself however, he entered shoulders squared, chin set, and eyes ablaze with a fervor scarcely seen among the younger races." The man paused for effect. "The dragon gazed down upon the man, the huge jade green and golden bulk of the creature dwarfing the rag-tag intruder. For nearly five hours the two stared, neither backing down from the battle of wills. With a rush the dragon's head snapped forward, mouth agape, fangs glimmering in the moonlight entering the cave, halting only inches from the man's face. Undeterred the man stood resolute, facing his fate head on. With a snort of amusement the dragon withdrew the man's certain demise and beckoned the strange human further into the cave." "Inside the dragon inquired of the man's purpose and why he neither feared dragons nor it would seem death at all. The man simply replied that he had set his mind upon one thing, the meeting of a dragon face to face, and with his goal achieved he felt no remorse at his life being cut short, no despair for he was content in his accomplishment. The dragon, unprepared for such an answer, inquired further of the man, his background, his philosophies, his motivations, and so it came to pass that the two developed what may for all practical purposes be considered an understanding and in a way, a friendship." "Many months went by, the two growing in their companionship and mutual understanding, they traveled the length and breadth of Dastan together and even the lands beyond. Upon one of their travels they happened upon a most unusual of scenarios; a beautiful maiden in the process of beheading a dragon with a fantastical broadsword. Upon further inquiry the pair were informed that the dragon had sought to carry the maiden off, but not being a very smart dragon had failed to notice the weapon the maiden had stowed away with her. When the chance had arisen, the maiden had surprised the dragon and now prepared to dispatch the beast for its villainy. At these words the dragon whom the maiden was menacing spoke up and retorted that the story was false. It apparently had been minding its own business when the maiden, whom the dragon called a witch, had sprung upon it and had prepared to mercilessly deprive it of its life." "Faced with conundrum of whom to assist, the man and his dragon consulted among themselves for a very good time until at length they had made their decision. The man, resolute as ever, had decided in favor of the dragon, reasoning from experience that even the stupidest of the dragon kind could easily outsmart the likes of men, dwarves, and elves alike and therefore found it hard to believe that such a weapon could have been stowed away so secretly without the beast's notice." "The maiden's countenance slowly turned an ashen gray, her beauty melting away from her as fire does the sap of a fir tree, until a decrepit hag stood before the man and his dragon. In a tantrum of fury and guile, the witch cursed the pair for their meddling, magically she did put between them many leagues and cursed them such that fate would always dictate that their paths never cross again. Moreover she did disguise their forms in order that they might never recognize each other even if by some twisting of the laws of the world they should come into each other's presence." The man sighed, "And so you see my friends, I have labored these many years at first to twist the hands of fate in our meetings favor. But having failed to persuade them in any way, I have taken what little wealth I have left in order to restore my true countenance in hopes that someone else will see fit to dictate fate to spite the curse of the witch." -

"It is a rather personal matter. Let me say, that a key part of my own identity was robbed of me several years ago and at long last I am close to finally restoring it. All I wish for is time. Time to complete the process, if you and your friends can give me that... tell the gnome that I am too sick to pay for the time being, or something like that." -

"There is not much you could do I am afraid, my alchemical reactions take time that is all. Essences of Dragon are very temperature and time sensitive and unless they are handled with the utmost care, they can easily be ruined." Xander arrives at the penthouse. Cronk makes his way to the top floor and exits the dumbwaiter. A large room lays before him, laboratory instruments, tomes, and a large number of small dragons meet his gaze, but none so keenly as the hooded man in the center of the room. "I can't say I was expecting any guests." -
