Here's how I see it as time moves along and players advance. Knights: Shields tend to lose their attractiveness as non-knight classes are able to acquire relatively comparable SP levels further on. Rogues: No loss in appeal. Clerics: Perhaps a little loss in their effectiveness as players are able to purchase restorative consumables more easily at higher levels. Mages: A little loss in their gem appeal as a good number of advanced players will have acquired a few gem imbued weapons, but they still aren't as versatile as a mage. Barbarians: Still able to deal more damage than the average class even at advanced levels. Rangers: Still able to deal ranged damage more effectively than other classes at advanced levels. Knights seem to me like the only class that loses their advantage as time wears on. I'm not calling for a buff, but perhaps away to keep the other classes from encroaching on it's territory.

Skrall loaded a bolt into his Hunter's Crossbow and took aim at the Aquaphant from the back row, "Any one up for some Aquaphant burger? I've heard it's quite tasty if a bit fishy this time of year. Alexis, if ya wouldn't mind pickin' off that last gloom widow, that'd be perfect." Battle Order: Namyrra Hoke Alexis Skrall Stigveladi Nur -
I wouldn't say they need a buff, just that other classes are close to rendering their advantage moot. I generally send him any new artifact/weapon that I feel might have a chance of being abused.
-
I wouldn't say it's a 1:1 corelation either, but I think it's a pretty easy fix compared to some of the other ideas as of the moment. Perhaps items that increase a Cleric's healing power? Censors from the online game Monster's Den come to mind.

More flames erupt from Ecastue's mouth and are promptly put out by the dragonlings. Ecastue looks up at the heroes, his eyes gleaming a bright green. "Heroes, you must go now. I don't think I will be able to control what will happen in the oncoming moments. The dragons might be able to stop any lasting damage to the inn, but I doubt they can keep you from being injured." Shall the heroes stay or depart from the room? -
I wouldn't even expect a refund, though I can understand not everyone being of that same mindset. While it may not be a necessity at the moment, I'm pretty sure that the game is going to eventually reach that point and would rather nip it in the bud now rather than later. That's not actually a bad idea.
-
I'm not really a fan of upgrading artifacts as it makes acquiring extra SP really easy. Yes knight classes' advantage should be high SP, but let's not let it get so carried away that they can never be hurt. Also, I'm not sure making Knights able to pierce SP helps either. How bad would it be for existing non-knight classes to actually give up their SP, or even limit it to say a max of 3? Speaking from the perspective of having 8 SP (which is effectively 16 SP since I'm in the back row most of the time), I love being able to take a few hits but I'd be willing to give that up for the sake of balance. Anyone else?

"The broken bridge sounds like a fine idea, Namyrra, though I think you'll only get one reading out of that scroll." Skrall stretched out at the Sanctuary before consuming one of his meads. -
I think that's the first time, I've ever seen Cronk use sarcasm.

The party hears screams of panic from the floors below. -
Perhaps one way to keep people from switching back and forth for gold gaining, would be to limit the number of times one can change their class.

However you expend ether at such a rate based upon your other artifacts, i.e. the lens and your scroll usage. Those items thus have a counter-balance. Your ability to do a good amount of damage and thus score overkill does not.

The little gnome lifts his hands in sheer panic. "A dragon in the penthouse! What will the other tenants think? He's liable to burn the entire inn down. No, no, no! Master Hinckwell would see me fired and thrown onto the street. You must quickly get him out. Out I say, out out out! I don't care if he was to offer me 10,000 gold right this minute." -

"Why do you think I have all these dragonlings here? They will ensure that it doesn't happen again. As for Krook, what would you have me..." The man's face contorts before he retches spurts of flame onto the floor. The rug ignites, but only for a brief moment before the white dragonling settles besides the blaze, cooling the fire with its icy breath. Meanwhile, Dyric runs the dumbwaiter down to Mr. Greely. "Goodness gracious my good rogue, what's all this about?"
