"If you're talking about Hriensa Lake that thing is at least a couple miles around, that'd take a machine as big as a intergalactic freighter. The locals can stay away from our equipment and that'll be fine enough. If they've got a problem, they can bring it up with their Council." "Figured, you're traveling with one after all. I'm glad you can afford some semblance of law and order where-ever you're from. Out here, you protect what belongs to you, you give an inch and they'll take a mile."

"We've got units all over the Flats, this one's on the border between the Flats and the Wastes. Bunch of buried cables feeding the heat from the planet's core to the melters near our substation in the Wastes." "As much as you do trying to stop me. You're on Recivic, its hard enough to survive without mangy Rats stealing anything they can get their hands on." Enson Persuasion Proficiency vs. Ipwin Insight Proficiency - (5,6,2) 2 Successes vs. (1,6,1) 1 Success Ipwin glares at Enson before opening up his satchel and emptying its contents on the ground. A large metallic cylinder falls into the snow. "Bah, not worth the trouble." "I was right, all you Rats are the same." Ipwin starts to walk off followed by his companion. "Your Council is going to hear about this, our management will be pressing charges." Corwan turns to the heroes as the Cricet leave in a sled. "Guess I've got you lot to thank, though I'm sure we could have handled it just fine."

MM Note: Sorry, somehow missed it. "It's a high voltage capacitor, it ensures the thermal unit continues operating smoothly when we have to trigger resets. Vigilante violence wouldn't be necessary if the darn Rat would simply comply and let us search their bags." "I ain't going to be bossed around by a miner, I'm sure they've got plenty of parts back at their base to fix the thing. They're just looking for an excuse to assert dominance. They take our land, why not take our dignity as well?"

"Oh I don't think I'm familiar with Blastball, is it similar to Cosmo-polo?" Valesia smiles somewhat nervously at her silent companions, before continuing persuasively, "As I said, we're doing a survey of the local area, lots of freaky weather and electrical disturbances as of late. This equipment should help pin-point the issue and we'd be glad to offer our findings to the city, that is if anything has been disrupting life here in Vurenia. Otherwise if you're looking for some sort of proof of security or 'down-payment' of our good will, I'm sure that could be arranged as well."

Ronin Intimidation Proficiency Check (DC 3) - (4,3,6) 2 Successes "No one asked you to get involved, keep your nose in your own business, Tin Head." Decker Persuasion Proficiency Check (DC 1) - (5,2,1) 1 Success "We were... hunting cryo-storks, trying to restock on supplies." "Then these two come along and accuse of sabotaging their equipment and yeah, this is the edge of Kristal's power generation plots." "You trying to be funny, Chimeran? Of course we checked the unit, our melters are running at lower efficiency with this thing down." Polaris Engineering Check (DC 1) - (3,2,1) Polaris looks over at the geothermal generator unit, but can't tell whether it's working or not. "The tundra's a harsh place, the folks you meet out here will be harsher. There's no love for Kristal Ice Mining among us Cricet, things are still raw about them being granted mining rights on the planet."

Polaris Intimidation Proficiency Check (DC 3) - (2,5,4) 2 Successes "It's a geothermal unit, not a monolith and you destroy that and you'll have Kristal Ice suing your behind from here to the Nendaran system. It's been down for a few hours, but if you're siding with the Rats, then we've got nothing left to discuss." "Yeah go crawling back to your luxury heated space tractors, Miner." Enson Athletics vs. Corwan Athletics vs. Ipwin Athletics - (5,5,4) 3 Successes vs. (2,5,1) 1 Success vs. (3,1,5) 1 Success Enson manages to point both barrels at himself. The Elf frowns at him. "Of course, we searched. Besides you'd need tools to take the piece off and this isn't the first instance of our equipment out here breaking down." Enson Perception Proficiency Check (DC 1,3) - (1,3,5) 1 Success Enson doesn't spot the part but does spot a toolbag the Cricet Ipwin is carrying. "Let go of my gun, Ape. I'm a free Cricet and have the right to deal with this in the way I see fit, if the miner wants to impose some sort of justice I won't think twice about defending myself, even if that means extra casualties."

"Thermal unit's goes down, we investigate and find these two snooping around." "Just because your equipment is on the border of Cricet territory, doesn't make us suspicious." "Uh huh, well then empty your packs on the ground and we'll see about that. Otherwise we'll be going through them over your corpses." "Make one move Kristal, and the wind will be blow through you quicker than it does around you. You've got no right to make any demands here. Heck I'm of the opinion you don't have any real right to be drilling here anyways. Just move along or I'll be making you." The conflict seemed to be escalating, the heroes would need to do something if the situation was to keep from devolving into a shoot-out."

A new mission has been added to the mission board! Mission #8: The Enigmatic Mr. Fix-It Mission Master: Kintobor Description: "Heroes, I have a peculiar case at hand. In a small village on Aluriel, my sources have picked up a notorious criminal. However, the locals seem to have embraced this figure, referring to him as Mr. Fix-It. I need to know if this is a ruse or not, if "Mr. Fix-It" is merely an act or if something of interest has happened. Your assistance in the matter would be appreciated. - Free Captain Ezra Nezzar of Ark Victoire" Party Requirements: "Three to four heroes who can investigate and throw down in a fight are preferred." Reward: "75 gold for dealing with this issue and reporting back to me on your findings." Sign-ups Close: November 5th -
Enson Perception Proficiency Check (DC 1) - (1,3,1) 0 Successes Enson fails to spot any other trouble as he strides confidently into the argument. "No trouble at all. These fine gentlemen misplaced some parts for a geothermal unit and seem to think we have 'em. I was just about to remind them they aren't on Kristal Ice property anymore and better back up before my piece makes 'em." Decker Perception Proficiency Check (DC 1,5) - (6,4,1) 2 Successes Decker doesn't find anything in the snow. "Yeah, I've got a compass, but Polaris has got a point, not everything metal is magnetic." "Mining parts, as if Kristal Ice doesn't already take away enough from our planet, now they seem to insinuate we've got no principles as well." "We've got plenty of rights to be mining here, you keep your fantasies in your head, rat."

"You could have more strategically defended someone or encouraged them, or tried something instead of sittin' like a stiff snowmouse." Sigrun sighs frustrated, "If I had thought you couldn't handle yourselves from the onset, I would have told you. The fact things turned so poor should encourage you to work together better as a team instead of having only a few of you seeming to have your heads screwed on right. That gator's big, but I don't think it's beyond your abilities, especially since I saw how you handled those mongers and the frost hawks back at Vindkoss." The Cricet finishes packing up the camp onto the sled as the wyrms begin to pull the group toward the Skelfing Wastes. The snow starts to fall again as the heroes begin their survey of the area. After a few hours of travel with little interruption or sightings of hostile wildlife, the group hears individuals shouting at one another and come upon a bevy of arguing Cricet and Kristal Mining employees. "I'm only asking one more time, Rat. Hand over the parts you scrapped, or you will force me to resort to more drastic measures." "Try that and I'll be decorating the snow bank behind you and your friend in a nice shade of crimson." "Come on Corwin, it don't have to be like this. Let's just report the part as missin'." "Yeah, otherwise Kristal's going to be missing to employees as well." Sigrun pauses the sled a few yards out commenting to the heroes. "More of these squabbles happening every day it seems. Keep moving?"

The Cricet narrowed her eyes, “Risking your lives and being adequately payed, might I mention. You’re hired to do a job, just like me, so let’s not pretend you’re doing this out of the goodness of your heart. Regarding my part in your last foray, your questions are a little too late and I agree with your leader. Your strategy was lacking and your lucky you made it out of there. If I recall you spent your first moments simply sitting there. If your looking for poisons, we can certainly forage but the variety your describing will both take time and may pose risks of it’s own in generating.” MM Note: I’m not opposed to this idea, or any in particular, but do note, there won’t be a simple OHKO strategy. You’ll be simply exchanging the risk of combat for the risk of finding, extracting, and handling a deadly toxin. Some characters are better stat’ed for dealing with one type of risk vs. another.

Polaris Nature Proficiency Check (DC 1) - (2,3,1,1) - 0 Successes Polaris is unsure why the birds fail to dive after them and watches as they fly eastward. "Like I said, I'll leave it up to you to explain to the committee that one of the raceway tracks is still unsafe, but that's none of my business." "Sure thing." The Cricet hands a flare over for inspection. "Have something in mind?" Flare - An area of 4 squares or a single Target is lit with Bright Light for one combat round (Consumable)

OoC: So by my count, Soren actually rolled 2 Successes (5 & 4) unless I'm missing something. "Nicely done Soren, to think we ever doubted you!" As the Cladrasith summons the securing vines, she smiles inwardly, even in this desolate place hope and life still managed to survive. Bracing herself for a crash into the rocky outcrop, she shouts with surprise as Max deftly deflects with his trusty shield. "Seems you can take the soldier out of the battlefield, but you can't take the battlefield out of the soldier. Excellently accomplished Max!" Valesia listens intently trying to determine if there is any code or pattern to the message. "Quite spooky. Are you sure you'll be alright out here on your own Glenn?"

MM Note: I'm OK if Peppermint_M wants to change this, but would like their consent first. "Alright, let's get some shut eye then." The Party beds down for the evening as Ricevec's three moons circle over-head in the clear night sky. The fire burns and crackles as each hero settles in their warm sleeping gear, sleep coming quickly to the exhausted group. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The early morning sun cold and dim begins to break over the horizon. A light dusting of snow covers the tents and gear as the heroes awaken to a brand new day, completely refreshed. The smell of roasting vittles permeates the crisp air as Sigrun prepares breakfast. "Well your first night out on the tundra and we're not missing any of you yet, I'd call that a success!" Flocks of cryo-storks fly high overhead chased by a number of frost hawks. "So heroes, where are we off to today? Back to the Lake or do you want to survey the nearby Wastes?"

Valesia tried shielding her eyes against the grit and dust blown up by the storm as she shouted to the pilot, "Soren, I'm thinking a bit magical light might help illuminate a safer path ahead of us, this storm is making visibility so poor it's as thick as corquin soup. Otherwise I can try stabilizin' the cargo with some arcane bindings, make sure it don't go no where."
-
"Up to you, it is getting a bit late, but we could manage another trip back to the lake shore if you wanted, otherwise I'd suggest bedding down for the night." "Just so you're aware, considering we're on the South West corner of the lake, we're fairly close to the Skelfing Wastes if you wanted to hit that next."

Heroica: Glory Amongst The Stars - Rules & FAQ
Waterbrick Down replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in Heroica! The RPG!
Mission 2 had quite a few fights that had them, but it definitely made things difficult on the players as they couldn't position themselves well, so the ranged characters were constantly either choosing a -1 or -2 penalty to attacks or a having an opportunistic attack come their way. It seems like one of those things that can either go heavily in the players favor or heavily against them. Duvors is right in that they're still around, they're just more limited in their triggers. Your best bet is to stick a melee fighter right on top of the ranged fighter and then position yourself so that the best shot they can get is one taken next to the melee fighter. -
MM Note: To save time, I'll assume Enson heals everyone up to full Vitality and then restores all of his Spirit. "The lake is usually an open flat stretch, less tricky topography to navigate. If you're racin' with sprinters, it's your quickest way to pull ahead on those that take the pass." "And then it's nothin' but people stoppin' you in the street thinking they know you." Sigrun cozies herself near the fire. "Well we've got enough fuel to keep us warm for a few days, rations for both yourselves the wyrms, the tents of course and bedding. Survival supplies like your compass, shovels, rope, snowshoes, picks, flares. Anything in particular you're after?"
