  1. Okay, are you saying that since you own the 7143 System set (as opposed to the 10215 UCS) cylinders built using that technique would be too large in size? If so, I would disagree. The boosters on the hyperdrive ring are massive and look to be well over half the width of the Delta-7 according to this Finemolds kit. Then again, 7143 is generally considered one of the worst sets in terms of dimensional accuracy and scale, so if you're trying to build in a certain scale I could be wrong. I wouldn't use the large half-cylinder pieces, mainly because they wouldn't allow for truly cylindrical boosters (only half) and secondly because they're costly. And if you ask me the exposed Technic ring doesn't look all that great either (the same reason I don't like some of the LEGO TIE sets; the frame holding the wing parts together are bulky and clearly visible, which detracts from the thin look of the wings themselves). They also leave gaps in the actual ring, which isn't too aesthetically pleasing. @eltsyr: It is true that you can enclose the ring with a few more layers of plates, but then you have a pretty bulky ring. I remember the ring being very thin, like the wings of the Eta-2. For the socket, I think you could probably just sandwich a few click hinge plates in between the parts of the cylinder and attach more plates to that. Of course, it won't be able to hold up the fighter, but it's not supposed to in the first place.
  2. I think what Sir von Lego has in mind is more along the lines of a land skirmish rather than an aerial/space dogfight. Not to mention the fact that a minifigure-scaled Slave I would be around half a meter in length while a minifigure-scaled Delta-7 would be incredibly small. And they're seismic charges (presumably because they create shock waves similar to seismic waves in the Earth's crust) ...
  3. Wait, what's the 'extendend' universe? Could you have meant Expanded Universe? I think that the reason Sir von Lego doesn't want to make an Utapau scene is because most of the action would take place within the city, which doesn't allow for much visibility as opposed to an open are such as Geonosis or Felucia. How about Hypori? The crashed Acclamator and Fordo's LAAT/i would certainly count as interesting builds, as would a brickbuilt Grievous. You may also want to take a look at the rest of the Outer Rim Sieges (i. e. the ones that weren't shown in the films). *A lot of people don't seem to know the names of things in this thread... what are Utuapa and Kasshyyk?
  4. I'll post this since I think this would help eltsyr as well. Pepa Quin worked out a way to achieve a cylinder with plates on his UCS ARC-170 by using ship's steering wheels: As well as this piece that I've never seen before:
  5. There we go. See, the thing is, I can't remember the last time I saw that movie. I think it may have been sometime last June. On the other hand, I remember having watched Zev Senesca's T-47 become cannon fodder only yesterday...
  6. Maybe 'ostracize' is a bit too harsh of a word. What I mean is, it got pretty ridiculous. For example, the other day:
  7. They are all different biomes, but I suppose they wouldn't look all that different in LEGO... Nah. At the least, I'd say wroshyr tree villages on Kashyyyk would be constructed quite differently from Ewok villages, and the beach seen in Sith looks nothing like Yavin or Endor. Am I the only one who thinks Utapau looked a bit like the village in Wayland? (In one of the comic book versions of Heir to the Empire, when Thrawn asks for the Guardian of the Mountain.) And Mustafar looks like Sullust as seen in the Rogue Squadron game. Mygeeto, during Order 66... one of the best scenes in Sith. Snowtroopers are valuable enough as it is - I'm not sure anyone would be willing to turn a bunch of them into Galactic Marines. And we won't be getting Ki-Adi Mundi until later this year... If not Muunilinst, then maybe Teth? Sans Ahsoka, of course.
  8. Still, you can't deny that there is a difference between the first wave of rehashes in '04 and the older sets up to that point, as well as between the sets from '08 on and sets released before then. I'm also wondering whether we couldn't entertain Churchill's idea:
  9. Well I was also ostracized for liking the X-wing for a while...
  10. How did I miss that? Well at the moment I'm not using any full-size mockups for reference (only the 1/24 miniatures used in the Death Star sequence) so that won't be happening... I think that the MOC Index already does a pretty good job of that (though it looks like it needs an update ). No Aurebesh on 10129, according to this.
  11. Well, I didn't exactly ask for the one I have right now either...
  12. I didn't know people here knew about this stuff... I enjoyed that manga very much as well. One of the few shonen series I liked. Inoue Takehiko draws some really great stuff. Is there anyone else here who's into mahou shoujo? Of course I love the two biggest '90s classics (Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura) but I also like some by Tanemura Arina (Full Moon Wo Sagashite is my absolute favorite, and I like Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne as well - very sad, both of them). For anime, well... has anyone heard of Key? The anime series Kanon, AIR, and CLANNAD After Story (all based on visual novels by Key) have some nice animation and great storylines, and the character designs are quite nice as well. It's honestly been a while since I've been into this stuff but I used to be a big manga fan some time back...
  13. Chibi is the romanization of a Japanese word corresponding to "small". (Thus "Seru Chibi Muun" was translated to "Sailor Mini Moon".) The fact that it is associated with "super-deformed" in western nations probably has something to do with Japanese animations such as Lucky Star.
  14. You got me there Maybe I should have said the symbolism of red lightsabers in the Original Trilogy. Hey KimT... do you plan on changing my member title anytime in the future?
  15. Well, you didn't have a whole lot to say about my [url= Huh?
  16. I thought the consensus was that I took terrible pictures? I'll take a bigger picture and upload it so you can use it. Eventually...
  17. Well I'm on version 9 and I'm still not satisified! I wish I could build it in UCS scale but I don't have the parts... Congratulations brickartist; you're now in the same position Brickdoctor was in with his AT-RT and which I am in with my X-wing! Hopefully you won't be made fun of like Brickdoctor and I were. Why is that still there? (The member title, that is.) It appears that my previous condition of using the 1x1 modified plate was thrown out during the building process. As a result, the nose on this model has become significantly thicker than it had been in the beginning, which really is a retrogradation. I think that with the ski pieces, tiles, etc. the entire model may have become a bit too bulky in general. The back looks higher and the feet don't reach the pedals. How does the size of this compare to that of the BARC from 7913? In any case, it should be smaller than the latter... remember, the minifigure should be able to straddle the speeder.
  18. But aren't you alredy a Q7-series astromech droid?
  19. It's been three years, so I don't see why not. By the way, it's LAAT/i, for "Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry". It's not to be confused with the LAAT/c, which was released in that $250 set with the AT-OT. It's "THE" Clone Wars, not just "Clone Wars". Big difference. I've already expressed my opinion of the '08 series multiple times, so I suggest you read this thread and decide for yourself. If you're really interested in what happens between Episodes II and III there are the Republic comics and others which are compiled in Clone Wars Volumes 1-9 by Dark Horse which depict what really happened between Episodes II and III (which the new TV series does not do, but enough.)
  20. *Confused by Brickdoctor's statement* *Types 'Vulptereen 327" into Google* *Clicks on Wookieepedia link* "Eh? When was that in the movie? And who the heck is Dud Bolt?" Point proven.
  21. Yes they do, and at the very least, most people have seen the films. I haven't seen the films, so I don't know whether any Balrogs are actually featured, but accuracy aside surely there must be at least one non-Star Wars fan who would associate a red lightsaber with Darth Vader, or at least Asajj Ventress (if their only exposure to Star Wars is through the '08 series). I suppose there could be humor in suggesting that Yoda had embraced the dark side prior to his going into exile on Dagobah, but that's kind of a "meh" for me. I really didn't intend for what I said to be any sort of criticism; I figured since eti hadn't seen the films in detail and the association of Yoda with the light side as opposed to the dark side is kind of a big deal in the Star Wars universe I should inform him so that he could avoid any unpleasant run-ins with any other Star Wars fans. Moving on...
  22. Is it a holoprojector?
  23. I think most people would know about the symbolism of red lightsabers, as a similar concept can be found in the writing of Tolkien. A lot of people like Spongebob and a lot of people don't. I just happen to be one of the latter. Everyone has their own sense of humor - having body parts popped off and used as boomerangs is funny to some people, I suppose. (I guess I can't really disapprove of Spongebob as an unhealthy cartoon - being a Sailor Moon fan and all - but w/e) And I honestly didn't know it was supposed to be Squidward's clarinet. Sorry, but it looked like a lightsaber to me. Yes, it's funny, but the whole red lightsaber thing threw me off a bit. And the Yoda's Padawan thing doesn't really bother me all that much, I just thought it would help to point that out since it made me go, "Huh?"
  24. Megabloks, those hideous Hasbro toys! That's an interesting take you've done on the frame from 7661, but to be honest I thought the ring from the set looked a bit unfinished because they left all the Technic beams exposed. A few years back I stumbled upon someone who had built a hyperdrive booster ring for their 7143 and posted instructions here. I think modifying this individual's design using click hinge plates rather than bricks would allow you to make the frame thinner and thus more aesthetically pleasing. I think those boosters could be beefed up more, especially considering their size in comparison to the rest of the fighter. In any case the 4x4 cylinder pieces are much too small, and the virtually unmodified LAAT/i engine pieces honestly look tacked on (e. g. those long protrusions in the front aren't accurate to the ring at all). I think there are some techniques out there for creating a circular shape with plates - you may want to look into that. Funny that you've placed an Obi-wan minifigure in the cockpit - as if 7143 wasn't oversized enough!
  25. Not even close. It's obvious you're not exactly a huge Star Wars fan, so please know that red lightsabers have non-Jedi connotations in the Star Wars universe (it's associated with Darth Vader the 'dark side' of the Force) , it's next to impossible to hold a lightsaber by the blade, and Yoda has not had a real apprentice (called 'Padawans' in the Prequels) since Dooku (also in the Prequels) which admittedly detracts from the humour of the picture. Though I don't mind seeing a character from an unhealthy children's cartoon about to kill himself*. *Good riddance. And no, I don't like Spongebob. It's disturbing on a level above mainstream Japanese animation. This is what happens when people who don't know a whole lot about Star Wars try to incorporate it into something. Next thing you know they'll have Darth Maul piloting a TIE fighter. *facepalm*
