  1. The inclusion of minifigures is what bothers me in the first place. LEGO's non-minifigure scaled sets rarely include minifigures, and the fact that they've stuck a bunch of rare characters there is going to screw up the great price-to-parts deals you typically get with these. Not to mention that they probably used the minifigures as an excuse to skimp on the model itself. Everybody's too busy watching THE Clone Wars to remember it. JCC1004: Vader specifically requested that the Executor (a type of star dreadnought, not an Imperator-class Star Destroyer) be moved out of the asteroid field so that there would be a clear transmission while he communicated with the Emperor in Empire. Really? When did Lucas edit the Executor out of Empire?
  2. There are quite a few IG-2000 MOCs out there; here's a pretty good one. I have yet to see a truly impressive LEGO Punishing One.
  3. The Executor was intended to be eleven times the length of an Imperator (with the conning towers on the two ships being the same size for comparison) so if it fits the bill... A UCS set that's been in demand since the beginning of the license and there are people complaining about minifigures. What gives? A Star Wars n00b blew off $500 for a LEGO set?
  4. Whoops. Guess not. *heh* You can’t blame me for being skeptical, though. It really is too good to be true. Damn minifigure hoarders jacking up set prices for the rest of us. They messed up on 10175 after all... Agreed. You can’t deny, though, that most LEGO Exectuor MOCs use a similar method. I almost expected a zigzag arrangement in the front. And Pepa Quin with 10179, and dmac with 10212... But he's right, you know. As obvious as they are, I’ll bet there are just as many obvious alternatives. Of course they did. Most AFOLs wouldn't care either way, and in any case accuracy is subjective. Still, it would be interesting if they had included this.
  5. I know what you're talking about, but if I remember correctly the Executor model in question was about as long as half a dozen people were wide, which puts it out of any price range anyone would be able to afford.
  6. While I would agree that there are some interesting techniques here I honestly think that this MOC is too irregular. The outer hull of the Hound's Tooth has always struck me as being very smooth yet weathered, not unlike that of the Slave I (though the shape is boxy rather than rounded). If I were to make a second rendition of this I would focus on getting the hull to be nice and smooth. Getting rid of the slope bricks on top would help too - at the moment I think they look rather messy. Shadows of the Empire isn't too obscure, compared to wherever the Century Tank and the blackhole stormtrooper came from. Well, the Hound's Tooth is basically a sandcrawler with wings.
  7. There's never been a more appropriate situation for Please tell me I'm not the only one who realized he was kidding.
  8. You make a good point. In the dozen years since The Phantom Menace it is possible that AFOLs would buy more sets from the Prequels, and as many members here have pointed out there are many concepts that would make for impressive UCS sets. Personally I don't think many starships from the Prequels have that iconic status that Original Trilogy vessels seem to have acquired to merit UCS, but that may be just me.
  9. Oh, right. Well, that also seems to be a disappointment...
  10. 8039 is ugly because it is ugly, not because some other set looks better (just like 6212). I would agree with you about the play features, though. That’s not to say, of course, that I would actually buy this thing. Agree to both statements. Along with 4504 and 7665 this has got to be one of the worst cases of deformed LEGO playsets. And sticking Palpatine’s office in there was just pointless (shameless minifigure fan service). 6211 was $99.99 and 8039 is $119.99 so the price range is about the same. With 6211 you get much more for your money than with 8039 (all those new molds, I’ll bet). I wouldn’t say it’s unfair, as both ships would serve a similar role (flagship) in a typical role-play scenario.
  11. I'm not sure how this follows with the current discussion, but: - The consensus seems to be that as UCS sets (not 10XXX S@H exclusives, but Ultimate Collector Series) are AFOL-oriented the subjects of such sets will be vessels from the Original Trilogy, so no, I don't believe LEGO is working on a UCS Delta-7B. To my knowledge, there was only one UCS set (again, not a 10XXX S@H exclusive, but an Ultimate Collector Series) that wasn't a ship from the Original Trilogy and it was a disappointment (10026). - I don't think LEGO has milked The Phantom Menace to its fullest extent because there are a crapload of vehicles and starships in that film which were more or less designed to be made into toys that LEGO hasn't taken advantage of (Mars Guo's pod, for example - yes, many of us want more LEGO podracers). You know, Sweden said it best (he was referring to Sir Steve's Star Wars Guide forums in this quote, but I think it applies to Eurobricks as well):
  12. Since this thread is so redundant we should make another Future Sets thread where a member's idea (e. g. UCS Venator) would be put on a poll and instead of thirty people saying the same thing they can just second the vote. This way LEGO (because we know they're reading this) will also be able to see which Future Set ideas are the most popular. As for printed camo ARF... please, no. The ARF has done absolutely nothing to deserve it.( Fett was iconic.)
  13. 10:00 on. According to the original source material, they glow.
  14. Seeing as both eventually went on sale for $25 I was under the impression that they weren't very popular (probably because there were no minifigures ). At this point nothing counts as UCS unless LEGO calls it that. In other words, If Comrade KimT says it, it must be right. Well, if '7879' means anything...
  15. In UCS (1:28) scale I'm fairly certain the model would have to be much larger; a 70cm UCS model would mean that the real craft is only 19.6m. The 1/72 Fine Molds kit is 30.5cm in length (putting the actual length of the Slave I at about 22m) and I know that the kit is actually too small. On a side note, I was under the impression that Anio's model was much bigger than 8097 - which makes the former even more impressive. Ah... in that case, the 70~80-stud approximation would be about right.
  16. I worry about Wookieepedia sometimes. Once I came across this in the 'Talk' section:  Next thing you know somebody will write that S-foils were operated by a worm gear.
  17. Somebody said the top hatch was the emergency hatch, but I can't provide a source. If you mean little hole in the back, that's just the rear viewport, not the entire hatch... Looking at the design of the x1, having the main hatch really would make the most sense, but I don't know... Comparing his MOC with the studio miniature, it turns out that proportions are fairly well done, which is always a plus for me. What markstones could work on would be getting rid of those unsightly gaps in the wings (Gareth's solution is excellent[/url] and using a different piece rather than that TIE cockpit - it's incredibly <insert that tiresome argument> and looks really out of place, and ditching it would allow for some liberty in cockpit design. Something using this would be interesting.
  18. Isn't that what we said about the last season? Yes, please. Less fan service, more civilian violence. We need more starved villages and bombed innocents so that the Wars don't seem so detached from everyone. *nods* If you ask me most of the violence and such didn't seem to relate to the war much, and what's this about Mortis and changing the nature of the Force? Is that really necessary? Remember Rule 1138... As nice as that would be (finally, LEGO Dreadnoughts!) the issue would be with Lucas bringing in Expanded Universe elements and using them in a way that fans would be happy with. Lucas has pretty much done all he can to Mandalorians and Grievous; I would prefer that Thrawn and C'Baoth remain untouched.
  19. Now what was a 7141 doing in there?
  20. You could almost say that Brickdoctor played a 'Han' in the making...
  21. Ritz Brick is correct in that V-19s were flown by the 'regular' clone pilots with yellow printing in the '03 series, at least for Red Squadron (yes, they were also Red Squadron). It was admittedly too bad that LEGO just printed some yellow on a regular clone instead of making a new helmet mold for 7674. It's implied that the blue-suited clone pilots you see piloting ARC-170s at Coruscant are 'Phase II' like the others, so no, I don't think they would belong in V-19s...
  22. It's actually implied that in-universe, the main ingress hatch of a TIE is on the rear of the craft; the opening top hatch was a toy invention. Another point on which "official" sources like the Essential Guide and the Incredible Cross-Sections are wrong. Regarding the MOC, all I can say is that the editing is very nice. There are a couple of points I'd like to address regarding the MOC itself, but I'm not sure what markstones' intention was in building this.
  23. Or buy a bunch of other sets and build one yourself.* *Keeping Neo-Clone Wars away from your kid helps too. In general, I can say that most kids will stop wanting a toy within a month or two of not getting it. And the series isn't that great anyway.
