1. What needs to be resolved? I thought you were leaving it alone.
2. You have your opinion and I have mine and now we've both voiced them. That's how it's done here. Thanks for helping me illustrate that.
3. I fully support Captain Green Hair in closing this topic when he did. We are very busy as a staff and don't always have time to monitor things that may get out of control. Every member of our team has the complete trust of the rest of the team. It is up to our discretion what topics stay open and which ones should be closed. Each member of the staff is open to discussion about whether a topic should be re-locked or re-opened. The original post made on the front page was a specific reminder for people that this site is meant for a mature adult community and discussions work best when people pay attention to how well they communicate. Personally, when people forget to put spaces between sentences (ie. I got the new City bus set.I like it a lot.the doors are really cool.It should come with more cats.) that really drives me nuts. The reminder was a good reminder meant to keep our core member base happy and also keep the site welcoming to new adult fans. Captain Green Hair was more than justified in closing a topic started by a member with multiple accounts and an axe to grind. 5150Lego, your opinion is always welcome, but your abrasive tone towards a staff who volunteers their time to make this a great community is unappreciated. I want you to be able to discuss things openly with other members and the staff, but I'm never happy to see a staff member disrespected. I really don't want to see any member disrespected, but this staff works their megablocks off to make this a good community, so please keep that in mind when voicing concerns. It would be greatly appreciated. I hope this is the last time I address this. That member had been here for a while and I gave him a simple warning to which he over-reacted and left the site. His comment was "I'll have some orange juice" not "That's a lovely MOC" and there were other one-liners he had posted on several other topics. The problem I addressed is between me and him. I discussed this at length with you by PM and I see no reason for you to still have a gripe with it. The staff is the staff for a reason. We know how to deal with these things. As long as you're not being directly effected, you should know some things happen for reasons that are none of your business. Interactions take place by PM or personal conversations. Members start second accounts that you would never realize are the same person. Sometimes, members threaten staff members by PM and act normal on the boards. Question us all you want, but there are 14 people on staff you can trust to be fair and make the best decisions possible. Getting worked up over and holding on to things is unhealthy and unproductive. Life is short: have fun, play hard. Move on.
4. Brothers-Brick is playing this video which contains Stacy_ToT_LUG, Cyclone Breezerider (aka Dave) & Copmike and me. Enjoy!
5. Have you read the first post of this topic?
6. Also, learn how to use bricklink's color guide.
7. Here is a new home for all of you creative Brick Moviemakers and Comic writers! Post your work and share your tips and ideas with other members of the community. Please list your work with the title Brick Flick: or Comic: in the topic title. If you are posting a regular series, please post the series title in the topic title and the episode or installment title in the topic description. This will help us keep our new forum organized! Thanks! Wanted: Experienced Brick Flick Makers and Comic Writers to write tutorials and maybe give pointers to novices...maybe even a new forum regulator! EDIT: New board; new features! Note: To insert a YouTube video in a post you need to use this format: In short, just wrap the link in "media" tags. 8. What's with the scourge of Tuskan accountants?
9. They blogged this on Brothers-Brick. I didn't know you won this! Congratulations. It's really creative and awesome. You're an excellent builder and I can't wait to start keeping up with your sit-com. It's sad that we're just starting to get to know each other as I'm leaving Chicago.
10. This is easily one of my favorite MOCs ever! It's so incredibly detailed and well constructed. Excellent job! I can't say enough about it. It fits incredibly well with the official modular sets, although it kind of outshines them. The inset is really well executed and I'm going to have to study that curved roof more. I really love your lamposts and the detail of your interior. I have only three suggestions for improvement: 1. I would try to get the front arch of the windows more curved. 2. I wish there was a way to get the studs out of those brick-built round white windows and 3. I suggest spindle fence on the roof as opposed to the "chain link" style. Other than that, it's amazing! I will look more later, but right now my partner is parking the car in a tight spot and I need to get out and shut the computer down ... Excellent work!
11. Correct. Now that it has it's own topic, we don't need to revive this one any further. Thanks guys.
12. Me, Stash2Sixx, CopMike ToT-LUG's Dave & Stacy, Me, Stash2Sixx, CopMike This was one of the coolest parts of the weekend. We had left a bowl of 1x2 frown bricks on the table and let the drunk AFOLs just sit and play and they made some pretty cool stuff. We didn't intend it to be a social experiment, but the result (see below) was pretty cool. Nannan Z, Lee, Matija, Dave_ToT_LUG, and cjedwards: the guy who built this- Railbricks's Jeramy had just run out of the picture... The organizer of BW, Bryan Bonahoom and Kyle from BrickForge's wife, Rachel are sitting in the window sill. The result of the drunken 1x2 creative build:
13. This is a great articulated sculpture-like build. You would've done really well at the Model Builder Search. I always wondered what this thing was. You captured the proportions of the plush domo perfectly. Have you done more characters like this or is it your first? Some people might not understand guys who only build armies.
14. I have quite the backlog. There are thumbnails for all of these. P.S. : Keep your PSes to yourselves.
15. I'll still be regular Hinckley here. I will not be posting anything about behind the scenes at the job, as I've already stated. The only difference may be that I'll have good coverage of openings and premieres. But as far as "inside info" goes: No. As I said already, I will sign an NDA and will not be able to discuss anything about the job itself.
16. I have been asked to be a coordinator for BrickWorld and will still be bringing my display.
17. Ugh, must we have tutorials in two places? I'm locking this with a link to the site's picture posting tutorial. (Thanks ISC for the help! You're a great guy.)
18. Please post in code tags (use this button: ) what you are trying to post.
19. No!! You don't understand. You're my favorite of all the mammals.
20. Thanks for breaking the news, my new buddy! Everybody, I met Ricecracker at BrickWorld and it turns out but he's more mature and a better builder than a lot of AFOLs I know. You're a great guy and it was cool to meet your family too. Seriously tough? Getting closer to that journalism career, huh? King of Grammar? Well, I will work in the model facility which is offsite, not the park's model shop. I will build the designs the designers give me for the parks in Malaysia, Dubai, Carlsbad and the Discovery Center in my very own Chicago. We sign a NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) and they moved all of the projects out of the shop for our tour, so that would be a resounding NO for pics from behind the scenes. Sorry Thanks for the call and for posting the pics, KP! Here are some pics of the model I built: Anubis, Greek God of Death We had to build for the theme "Land of Adventure" which is just Johnny Thunder Adventurers and the new ride "Dune Raiders" which is Egyptian. A friend gave me a lot of advice during the competition and I ignored most of it, but threw this ankh in for him just to say I followed his advice at at least one point. This was literally the first sculpture I've built with LEGO bricks. I took a sculpture class in college but build mostly buildings, vehicles and ships. Many people advised me to practice my sculpting skills and I was happy that the vision in my head came out in brick at the end of the challenge. I studied up on sphere building videos and the Ultimate LEGO Book and a little help from CopMike and some other anonymous pros. I used sloped bricks for the eye except for the part closest to the snout which I used a curved slope for a softer effect and a rounder "cheek" on the jackal. I purposely made the pattern go down and cut to one side to show off some SNOT techniques-a term the designers at the park use... And lastly, this was the pedestal which I started when there was 15 minutes left. I wanted to build a structure underneath the "bust" that showed off my strong suit. I worked a pattern into it which is something I've never done before. A spectator who was pulling for me told me I worried him by not constructing the actual sculpture until the last 5 minutes. I really spaced the work out, spending the first half hour on the headress, the next hour and 15 on the head of the dog and the last 15 minutes on the pedestal. That's usually how I work, but I actually wanted to put it together at the last minute. The rest of the time, I just had a pile of sections of the final product and let it come together right before the whistle. That was fun! He's a cool guy and he's a local Carlsbadian, so they focused on him, of course. The media thing was a little crazy and there wasn't too much focus on me which I think is just fine. Mariann! It was so cool to meet you! I'm glad you were there. You were incredibly supportive. Thanks! We'll soon be neighbors too! That quote in the paper was pretty funny. And yes, we'll be building all of the models for the park in Malaysia. Thanks you two! My favorite sea mammals! Sadly, yes. Leaving Chicago will be rough. I love this city very very much! I am happy with the compensation and thank you so much, my great Ozzy friend! Thanks for always being there for me. Oooh... I'll be going to CA by myself. This is going to be a very rough transition, but Jocko understands and supports me. We'll find a way to make it work. Honestly, it was becoming an obsession. Now I can build all day and get paid for it. Makes me feel a lot better about my compulsion to constantly build. Thanks booger! The Whacker and the Walrus will continue as will Fabuland Housewives. My new bosses really liked my web site and have no problem with the content. I hope to be there for the opening and meet you! One of my favorites! Actually, when Sean Kenny told me there were too many LCPs in Chicago, I knew I had to move! Unfortunately, I will have no say in set designs. We only build stuff for the parks and minilands. A few years back a company called Merlin Entertainment (as in Madame Tussaud's) bought a controlling share of the parks and they operate all LEGOLand parks. So I won't even be working directly for LEGO...yet. Not officially. I can't juggle both, but there are organizations I volunteer for that I won't stop providing services for. I have been advised to remain in the running for the ambassador position. Here's how the days went: (I'll skip the previous days where I entered the process with only a couple of days to go. I was "recruited" during BrickWorld.) Day One Copy Build: We were giving a small sculpture of a sea horse to copy and the bricks to copy it. We had ten minutes to complete it. Scale Up: We were shown a mini-fig sculpture and given a mini-fig and then worked as a group to build the little minifig into a sculpture like the one we had been shown, which was then hidden from us. We had 20 minutes to complete that. Or was it ten? I can't remember. My group was short a person, so the minifig ended up short a head. Two of us got hired eventually anyway. Creative Build: We were given one hour to build whatever we wanted with the bricks provided. I built a micro scale train station with a curved "glass" wall and the curved black piece from Mars Mission sets and the Rogue Shadow as a roof: At the end of the day, 21 out of 23 people were asked back and on day 2, 18 people showed up... Day Two Model Shop Tour: We were given a tour of the model shop and then one on one interviews with our perspective employers. Lunch! Final Building Challenge: The media and guests were allowed to watch as we battled it out for a job in the hot California sun. We were positioned at tables in front of the new ride and given two hours to build something we thought would work well in the Land of Adventure area of the park. After an hour for choosing bricks and approving our source material (we were allowed approved pictures, no instructions) with the judges, we began the build. It ended at four and they asked us back at 4:30 to make the announcement. Wait, no. I'm not an ambassador. I've only been nominated. Big difference. CopMike is our only ambassador right now and a great one at that! The media love this sort of thing, especially in the states where not many people are hiring and the outlook is somewhat grim. This was a positive human interest story. Anyway, I think that covers it. Thanks everyone for the well wishes!
21. This isn't a Fabuland building. It's CC scale. There are lots of things in the Fabuland Train Club layout. It's not all Fabuland. But it is all being packed up into boxes right now...
22. Hey guys. Here's another one of my new buildings from the Fabuland Train Club layout that CopMike and I brought to BrickWorld this year: Fogo de Chao: A successful Brazilian steakhouse occupies the first floor of this urban building. The owners of the restaurant occupy the floors above. Click here to see full gallery or click any picture. Enjoy and please feel free to leave feedback. Thanks!
23. I'm a little crazed right now, so it's good to see the game in intermission mode. I was going to resign, but now I have a little time to catch up. Sweet!
24. CopMike and I brought an entire train display. We will be posting all of our new MOCs (including new Star Wars Fabuland vigs) soon. In the meantime, please enjoy a little teaser of our layout:
25. Here is another one of my new buildings from our "Fabuland Train Club" display at Brickworld. This is a three story brownstone with a diner on the first floor. Based off of the Chicago Diner in the Lakeview neighborhood in Chicago, which is a vegan diner. Looks nothing like the real building. I based the architecture on my original fire station. See full gallery here or click any picture. Enjoy and please feel free to leave feedback. Thanks.
