Book III - Chalenge 2 - Cat A : Looking for another cart
Rogue Angel replied to Tezclatipoca's topic in Guilds of Historica
You've packed a large building into this small build. Nice classic look, and quite appropriate storyline. I like the cart as well. Good job!- 11 replies

Very nice build! I like the color combination (even the Ninjago orange) and the unique combination of techniques - it helps this stand out as a nonKAM (Kali/Avi/Miti) build. Good story as well, continuing to develop your character's plotline.

Book III Challenge II - Bread, Water and Drums
Rogue Angel replied to en_zoo's topic in Guilds of Historica
Excellent set of builds! The carriage is excellent - the angled wood side combine well with the white and green awning. The buildings are very well done - I like that the building on the left houses 2 trades. I like the variety of colors on the roof, but I'm not sure about the more uniform transition as you go up. The foliage and grounwork are very well done on these - Oh, I also love the well. The story is entertaining as well, and a refilled water supply is a great reason to celebrate - especially in Avalonia. Great job on the builds and completing all 3 categories!- 22 replies

Glad you got an entry in! The tile placement is a bit distracting, but otherwise a nice little build.

Challenge II - Category A - Caravan to Bluevale

Nice clean build that captures the essence of the challenge. I like the little touches on the wagon contents, and as others said, the turned wheels makes a big difference in adding some character. Well done! -

Book III - Challenge II: Bread and Circuses

Remember - It can still be the 31st, anywhere around the world. So we should have all the entries submitted. Here's My Category A entry: -
The tradesman assessed the stock of supplies that had been provided by the queen's agents. Looks like they are over half way through, that is good. He searched through the bustle of gnomes around the large contraption and found the quirky fellow he had spoken with when the supplies had first been dropped off - Master Inventor Birble it was? Drast: "Excuse me, Master Birble....? The gnome cut him off: "Master Inventor Ebbilan Birblenic, Ranking 7th Cog, Steam Harnesser Extraordinaire and Professor of the Mechanical arts and languages. And you are?" Drast: "I am the ferrier who brought you all of the supplies from the Queen to distribute, we had to go over the logistics of your process for over 2 days, don't you remember?" Master Birblenic: "You humans all look alike, and I have more important matters to dedicate my intellectual prowess to - I guess I can spare 2.5 to 3.2 minutes to discuss." Drast: "It looks like you have gone through over half the supplies that were provided - I assume this means you have been successful with your.... machine?" Master Birblenic: "Oh, extremely successful, we have had 46 successes so far to be precise. And by machine, I can only assume you are referring to the Remote Access Distribution and Conveyance System?" Drast: "Yes, that's what I meant. Of course. So do you have an estimate of how many of the remote natives have been supplied with the Remote .. System" Master Birblenic: "Let me see here - Yes, that's right, our current count is at... 0" Drast: "0? You said you had 46 successes, how are you defining success?" Master Birblenic: "Well of course, every successful engagement of the Distribution and Conveyance Instrument. If you counted every time the system ignited, we would be well into the 100's by now. Now if you were to account for the Master of Accounting for Collateral Losses and Costs, he wouldn't count the 3 injuries and the fatality, so that would put us at 43, but I've always been able to place the Science first!: Drast: "Fatality?" Master Birblenic: "On trial run 168, the instrument released radially instead of longitudinally, and Steamsmith 2nd Cloud Algold was within the radial path. But - as they say - lives sacrificed in the pursuit of science are the foundation of what gnomish technology is build upon." Drast: "But don't you have catapults you could have used?" Master Birblenic: "Yes, but we have rainwater, and we still used distilled and purified water to power our steam engines don't we. The catapult requires beasts of burden to set the mechanism, requiring a minimum of 50 feet, it is limited in range to a mere 1500 feet, it is difficult to rotate." Drast interrupted: "This looks stationary to me." Master Birblenic: "This current iteration, yes, the rotation feature was not considered until design phase 41, and by that point we had invested significant effort into design plans, parts fabrication, and ground preparation, so it was decided that it be included in a future iteration - maybe 4h or 4i?" Drast: So you have yet to provide supplies to anyone in the area? Master Birblenic: "I would say that we have theoretically supplied everyone within a 10,000 foot radius for at least the next 400 years, and besides, we here have been supplied quite nicely ever since this endeavor began." Drast: ...... Master Birblenic: "You're quite welcome. Now, I must get back to work, Good day."

Custom minifigs, decals, stickers are fine, as are homemade sails, cloth, etc. Brickarms, Lifelites, Lego compatible are fine. Lego clones like Megablocks, Kreo, etc. Are not allowed. For some Challenges, even custom/compatible parts may be restricted, but this only for those Challenge entries, not free builds, Guild tasks, etc. -

You can probably submit it for scoring, but it would not be eligible for winning, and may get a small scoring penalty. -

Prime Minister of Trade: Rogue Angel Minister of Arms: Garmadon Minster of Ward: Narbilu @Basiliscus - you would likely be vying for Minister of Agriculture or Plantations. Once you have established an example of your key business areas, you can expand to anything else relating to the other aspects of your trade. This may be related to your primary business (storage or transfer warehouses, wine merchants, glass blowers, or other things like what @Muakhah mentioned above) or alternately other trade goods under your Ministry (such as grains or vegetables for Agriculture) or other interactions that relate more to securing contracts, political intrigue or power struggles. If someone else wants to challenge you, they would try to do a better job of portraying their business under the same Ministry. Maybe they have giant pumpkin farms, and do pumpkin pie and festivals and decorations, etc. But it all comes down to how well you are showing the extent of your power throughout Varlyrio. -

We will be establishing family ranks after the end of Challenge II. This will be determined by free builds, Challenge Entries and Family members portrayed. As mentioned previously, if your builds portray your family engaging in their 'Trade', it will help you win that position (if it is available). Make sure to post you families and Challenge entries by the end of the month! (the next family rank assessment will be after Ch III or Ch IV). If you don't have a sigfig posted yet (@Andrew Spader) AND at least a free build or Challenge entry ( @W Navarre) you will NOT be eligible to have your family ranked. (Andrew - you may have posted your sigfig, but I don't remember it) -

I may be misinterpreting, but this was in reference to what can be viewed as evil, not savage, even though I mentioned how some can view others as "savages". Sacrificing the weak to save the strong can be viewed as 'evil' especially in modern-day society. -

My understanding is that Elves and Dwarves were minute beings until Tolkien converted them to the full-size humanoids they are today, but I could be wrong on this. Orcs were a completely new creation, correct? -
Nope, just a friendly reminder to all.

I am in agreement that races as a whole would not typically be evil in GoH, but the values and cultural norms of a race or society can make them 'seem evil'. The following mindsets likely exist in GoH and would be viewed as "evil" by some: - Viewing strength and prowess as key qualities and adopting the "might means right" or "survival of the fittest" strategies (Most wild animals) - Place little value on individual life, or embrace self-sacrifice (colony insects) - Viewing other life forms as inferior, insignificant or unacknowledged (humans vs. ants, "Civilized" vs. "Savages") Power = Right in many more isolated communities, and the Wastelands would be a good example of this, as was Feudal Europe. The wastelands are much more prone to powerful groups taking advantage of less powerful groups. There are many bandits, marauders, and other lawless folks there. In addition to human settlements, there are also gnome, goblin, lionel, minotaur, orc, etc. Pretty much anything you can think of or want. We also don't want to make too many blanket statements about the wasteland as a whole. This is a vast area, open to many different interpretations. In regards to the Drow, we have adopted Tolkiens' Elves and Dwarves wholesale, and many races from Dungeons and Dragons, why would Drow be any different? Most of world history is extremely dark, our history books just portray things more nobly (not that that's a word). Varlyrio is a bit darker than the other realms, and I think GoH can handle it. BTW, I love the Belgariad and Mallorean, but it is too rosy, and every character is the best at the world in everything they do. Still love them though. GoT is great because it does a much better job of portraying how the "good guys" are never universally good, and do bad things, and likewise the "bad guys" are never entirely bad. There are good people and bad people, but it is still all in shades of grey (other than the Mountain-that-Rides and Ramsey Bolton) -

Just a little reminder to everyone here: This is not the place to get into extended and potentially divisive discussions about real-world issues. If anyone is considering an extended defense or justification of anything that is related to RELIGION or RACISM or SEXISM or real-life POLITICS, please refrain from doing so. This is not the place for these types of discussions. It is perfectly acceptable to get into extended discussions about races and culture and politics in GOH, but these should not get argumentative in nature, and you should be able to restrain yourself if you are starting to post something that is getting you worked up, or feeling divisive. Thanks!

Quite a few posts in the last few hours. As Andrew said, this is not the place to get into extended and potentially divisive discussions about arguably racist roots in literature. The concept of whether there should be evil races or not is just fine. In the future, if anyone is considering an extended defense or justification of anything that is related to RELIGION or RACISM or SEXISM or real-life POLITICS, please refrain from doing so. This is not the place for these types of discussions. It is perfectly acceptable to get into extended discussions about races and culture and politics in GOH, but these should not get argumentative in nature, and you should be able to restrain yourself if you are starting to post something that is getting you worked up, or feeling divisive. -

Rogue Angel replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Great review Whitefang! I've been forward to this set ever since the first pictures surfaced. I love the figures and printed tiles, as well as the build overall. Now I just have to get my hands on one :) -
I have never seen a similar Lego build before. I actually built this for Brickworld 2016, but just hadn't posted it yet. I'm sure someone has built with upside down boat hulls before (Someone just posted one in this forum recently) but I had never seen the other curved roof style that I used for the rest of the roofing.

I would echo what others have said. The groundwork and terrain are excellent, if you could add a little bit of detail to the walls and roof, it would make a huge difference. Great story though, I'm enjoying your storyline progression. I also like using the dummies to portray power. Nice work!

Very nice clean build, I especially like the brown horn on the railing - this works great! I forget how much I like having you in my Guild because you do the massive expanding Cities/Fortresses, etc. -
I like the fencing, the roofing for the stables, and the concept itself. Nice work! it would be good if you could post some actual pictures instead of just links like this:
