1. I dabble. I just take a look at the latest news, catalogue etc and pick up what takes my fancy. At the moment Lego is really strong in lots of areas, I think: recently I've enjoyed many sets from a wide variety of themes. Atlantis, Ninjago, PoP, Harry Potter, Kingdoms, SW, the late Pirates, and now of course the fantastic PotC line, I really like most of the sets from them all, and it's been a happy dilemma as to what I get. Alien Conquest looks very neat too: cool parts, colours, minifigs and more. Not to mention the Minifigures.
2. I think that the sets are definitely expensive, maybe too expensive. However, I think the telling factor for me is just how good pretty well all the sets are. I won't get the average/below average ones, but currently all the sets are, in my opinion so good that the price tag, however high, seems justifiable. I love the minifigs, the new parts, the designs, etc, etc. However, in the interests of my wallet, I will most certainly take advantage of sales/clearance.
3. Lovely! Simply but beautifully built setting, and your posing is, once again, top notch. The horse archer is perfect. Great work.
4. Thanks for this great first review! I like this set, but unfortunately don't like it as much as other, budget blowing sets (cough PotC cough), so I don't think I'll be getting this one. Might have to Bricklink the great dinghy though. Again, thanks for the review!
5. What a great tutorial! Loads of useful information in there. Particularly nice part about the hanging tables, and I really like the design of the interior pieces - simple, but really nice. Thanks for this great tutorial.
6. I agree with both of you that there a certainly some notable omissions, however I don't own very much licensed stuff and have no Batman, Toy Story or Spiderman! Still regret that I didn't pounce on any of the Batman stuff. And yes badboyjte88, this was a blast to build. It's not very detailed or well built, but it was great fun! Thanks for the great comments guys.
7. Far away, at a secret location deep in the forest, lies the gathering place of the heroes. To enter, you must hold a license. Anakin, laid off by the Emperor during the Galactic recession, is working to raise some credits. Despite the building's lonely appearance from outdoors, as we round the corner we learn this is not the case. This place is a bustling inn! Let's start with the accommodation. Upstairs, in the backpackers room, we find Harry, on the run from some vicious Death Eaters. He updates his Facebook status on his shiny new smartphone. Voldemort obviously hasn't utilised social networks for tracking purposes yet. Downstairs in the lobby we find Marion, working as a barmaid. Indy waits patiently in the queue, and Lupin simply cannot decide between the lasagne and the lamb. Moving on, we enter the VIP lounge. Dad inspects the globe, while Obi-wan, now a permanent resident of the inn due to his old age, shows new arrival Jack Sparrow the beer cabinet. Jack can't believe his eyes! That old compass did lead him somewhere good after all. They only serve the best here, too: Queen Anne's Rum. In the background, a shy Ewok warms himself by the fire. Of course, there is secluded couple's dining in such a high-class establishment. Here, Dastan carves the turkey with the Dagger of Time itself. Tamina watches on, impressed. The furniture and wares: Bar fight! Thanks for viewing! EDIT - fixed images. Some problem.
8. I think it looks great, but I haven't been a part of the long wait and the hype that's built around this set, so maybe more was expected. I think the buildings are nicely detailed, the interiors look great, and it's a very decent parts pack (the goldfish alone almost makes this worth the purchase ). I don't know if I'll be getting it, but it looks lovely nonetheless. On a side note, as I have already mentioned, I love the goldfish! I am so pleased Lego are further developing this piece - first grey, then sand green, now orange! Definitely my favorite 'accessory' element.
9. What a great set. It just looks like so much fun. I think that this is one of those rare sets in which the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts. The separate vehicles in themselves are nothing particularly special (apart from the fighter ) but together they create a great set. The details are nice, especially the little medical carrier ( again) and the minifigure selection is good. I love this set. Thanks for an awesome review. And thanks to Lego for yet another brilliant set.
10. Incredible! All the detail is amazing! I love the whole thing - it has this brilliant Legoey feel too it, pure fun. The islander hairpiece as the lantern is great, and the dark tan sandcastle is a lovely touch.
11. Great work! As everyone else has said, the varying shades of red work well, and the landscaping is great too. I particularly like the large tree.
12. Thanks for new pics! They haven't changed anything, however. They've just affirmed further, in my opinion, that these are some of the best Castle sets I have seen in a very long time. I think the designers have taken advantage of not only all the new, specialized bricks, but also returned to a more classic design base in several of the sets. The little blacksmith set is genius. Many of them will hopefully be arriving for me when they are released!
13. What a great entry! This is brimming with detail - that chair is one of the best designs I have seen in recent history. I love the whole museumish feel it creates, and touches like the cabinets and the wings mounted on the wall finish this off beautifully. I also love that dark green truck. Good luck!
14. Awesome! I love all the colour and silliness of it. And being brilliantly built helps. These sorts of creations are usually my favorites. If it looks like it was great fun to put together, then generally it's a fantastic MOC.
15. I'm with you, Jareth. I think the new trees look great. Lots of great pieces, basically. The Ewok Attack tree looks a treat - an abundance of dark brown, regular brown, dark tan and a smattering of green, as well as the dark green leaves. I also agree about the King's Carriage looking good. I have been looking for an excuse to buy this set when it appears on the shelves, and I think I've just found it. I can also understand why you wouldn't like the leaves, hewman, but I do. I think that, with specialized pieces like leaves, it becomes purely personal preference that determines whether or not the said piece agrees with you.
16. Lovely entry! Nice techniques and great attention to detail. As others have said, you've captured the D2C set look perfectly - with just the perfect amount of detail to make it seem like a real set. Great work.
17. This was a good topic to revive. I would have to say that my favourite (notice favourite, not best) minifigure is Johnny Thunder. He has no back or leg printing, and he is definitely not the most detailed minfig ever made, but there is a wonderful charm to him - he is your rugged, hardy adventurer; he'll never fail you. And I still don't think of him as an Australian. There are other greats - Dastan, Indy, the original Bluecoats, the Rebel Commando, and many, many more, but I still think Johnny is the best.
18. It would be good to have a poll here, but I guess it would be far, far too large. I'll let the mods think that one over. It changes quite regularly... currently it would be tied between Medieval Market Village and Fight for the Dagger (from the PoP line). However, old favourites include sets like Truck Stop from 1998, or a little gem like Spider's Secret from Adventurers a year later. I really couldn't name an overall favourite. But I have to say that MMV would come close.
19. Some of these look really nice. I love that early mine, would've been a fantastic set, and the Loch Ness-ish set looks nice. Also interesting to see the early kind of MMV - Lego had that idea in the back of their minds for a while, it seems. Great find.
20. Lovely work! The rock wall looks great, very inventive tiling method. Same with the roof. You've managed to cram a ton of detail onto a small base. Awesome creation.
21. Fantastic MOC! All the detail is lovely. I like how the whole thing is tiled - sometimes this can be a bad thing, but here it definitely isn't. Awesome creation! Keep up the great work!
22. Nice work! I like the sand orange colour as the ground, it looks good, and your transition to snot water looks really good. It's a very 'clean' creation. I do feel it is lacking a little substance, however. If this one is still around, or in your next build, try adding some variety to the ground. Colour change, tiling, studs, plants, etc. Great work though!
23. I never go through inventories or anything before I buy a set, but I will often look for a review here on EB of the set I wish to buy. I tend to be most interested in the parts included in this set, and it seems like you are too, so I head to the section of the review on 'parts', and have a look at the overview. It's fairly easy to tell a good parts selection over a bad one, so I like this method. Alternatively, buying Lego Exclusives, although expensive, generally guarantees you a very nice selectqion of parts. Hope this helps.
24. What an awesome airport! I love the photos of the underpass, they seem perfect. And all the detail in this is astounding.
25. What an incredible contest. Even without loads of minifigures for each of these themes, I might still be able to whip up a smaller D2C creation. A massive thanks to all of the EB staff for providing us with yet another awesome contest. I think this might be the best one yet.
