Hello. I know you from somewhere. Did we trade something before? Doesn't matter. I've got this hammer I'd like to trade for gems, if you'd want that? But my name is Torald, Ezeran is my sorcerer friend.
-
Torald sneaks out of the Hall for a moment, returning with a topaz in his possession.
-
Torald once again visits the market, this time only removing a Topaz from the spark hammer. He pays 50 gold. 416-50=366 gold.
-
That had to be a lot of work, thanks!
-
Ezeran, please excuse me for a moment. I have some business in the marketplace. Won't be long. With those words, Torald left the Hall. A short while later he returned. So, sold some stuff, bought some stuff, plus I got this Emerald, Torald smiles.
-
Torald sells his Old and Rusty Greatsword (WP3) for 15 gold, his Spear (WP5) for 25, 2 tricorne (SP3) for 60 gold each, his White Ninja Cowl for 30 gold and finally his Black Knights Armour for 100 gold. 15+25+60+60+30+100=290 gold. Torald now has 266+290=556 gold. Torald removes a gem from the Spark Hammer. It no longer is Wood elemental, and Torald gains an Emerald, but looses 50 gold. 556-50=506 gold. Torald buys 3 grand tonics for 90 gold. 506-90=416 gold.

Yeah, I saw that. Gonna have to do that, otherwise I don't have any gems
-
Thanks, figured as much. O well.
-
Not sure if this has been asked or discussed before, but I don't have the time or energy going through 1928 pages to find out. So, as a mage you need a gem to cast spells with, correct? Does that gem have to be handheld, or can it be fused into a weapon too? I have a weapon with a fused Emerald, so I was wondering if I can cast wood spells with that or if I have to remove it from the weapon.
-
Torald laughs. Yeah, pretty cool, huh. Just learning for now, getting to know the basics. But it's hard.
-
More drinks? It's like you can read my mind. I'll get them. Torald walks over to the bar and orders a mulled wine and a big pint of ale. There you go, what is the next lesson?
-
Thanks! It helps I have a good teacher. Uhm, lets see. Ooh, I like this one! Torald picks up the Ruby. But that might not be the safest thing inside. He carefully puts the Ruby back. How about this? He picks up the Amethyst. Focusing on the Amethyst, he feels a lot of dark energy inside. Ooh no. Let's not do this one just yet. Emerald it is. Torald focuses on the Emerald, trying to channel his own energy through the Emerald, releasing the energy onto the chair. The chair wobbles a bit, then branches and leaves grow out of it. Wow, amazing!

Magic is power and power means corruption. Makes sense. It feels good to use magic, but you are saying that if you use too much magic, careless, it might take control over you? Make you do things you don't want to do? Torald lets that sink in, and thinks about it for a while. So, use magic when there is no other way, and do it the "normal" way whenever possible. Thanks for teaching me all this. Would not have figured this out all by myself. So, with these lessons, I learned to focus on the magic, and not use it carefree.
-
Not sure I understand. Figure out a way to not use magic? Torald looks confused.
-
The chair isn't an acute threat, but it can harm if used correctly. Maybe I can, like, walk over to the sword and pick it up, but that might leave my back vulnerable. So, I don't know. Sorry!
-
The chair is made of wood, with 4 legs, 2 armrests and a backrest. There is some padding where you can sit on, so it doesn't hurt your behind. When the chair hits you in the chest, it hurts. Torald thinks for a moment. A tactical situation. Hmm. Yes. I am all alone in the woods, my party members are knocked out by powerful enemies. I'm surrounded by 4 big, hairy werewolves. I have lost my sword, all I can do, is use my magic to hurl some lumps of wood their way and maybe knock them out before they get me. But I have to control the lumps, otherwise they might hit me or the party members. So, I need to focus really hard on the lumps and the amount of ether I put in each hurl. But I could also use the magic to summon my sword back into my hands, without it hitting myself with the pointy bit. Torald thinks again. Wow, a lot of thinking is involved with using magic. How do I use it? Is this the most useful, least ether consuming way?

Torald focuses on the chair. The chair wobbles a bit. Focusing really hard on the chair, Torald feels a lot of energy storming through his body. The chair shoots towards him, barely avoiding some other Heroes in the Hall. With a loud bang, the chair hits Torald in the chest. Well, the chair is over here now. Torald rubs his chest, with a painful face. Maybe I have to put a bit less energy in it. Let's try again. This time, focusing hard on the chair, but controlling the energy within, Torald manages to move the chair in a more controlled way.

Torald takes a big gulp of the ale. Aah, that's better. He takes another sip. Torald lets the dice roll in his hand, not sure what to do with them. Focus on specific outcomes? Like, all sixes? Allright. Torald rolls the dice, focusing hard on sixes. As he lets the dice roll, Torald feels a small tickle in his hand. The dice land on the table. 3 sixes, 2 fours and a 2. Hmm. Torald picks the dice up, ready for another throw. This time, he gives them an extra good shaking. As they leave his hand, a bigger tickle in his hand follows. 5 sixes, 1 three. Rolling the dice again, focusing really hard on sixes. Energy tickles his hand. All sixes. Yeah, I did it! Torald picks the dice up once more, gives them a good roll, focusing on every one number. As the dice roll of his hand, he already knows there will be one of each number on the table. He looks at the dice, but they are all sixes again. Frustrated, he keeps rolling the dice. Every time he feels a bit of energy tickle his hand, every time he gets better results rolling specific outcomes. After a good hour of dice rolling, Torald feels confident, but tired. Thanks. I guess this is the first lesson. Focus, focus, focus. Got it. Giving form to the ether is hard work, truly. I always thought it was just say a few words in a strange language and *poof* that bad guy is now a frog. Actually using magic is hard, but satisfying, if you get what I mean. It's hard to put into words. Torald takes another big gulp from the ale, and sits back in his chair. What's next?
-
Torald walked in the Hall, a completely different man. He felt weird energy flowing through him. He walked to Ezeran. Guess what? I'm a Battle Mage now. No longer just a Barbarian. But where is that ale you promised? And can you teach me some easy starter spells? I'm new to this energy flowing around inside me. Help me give form to it, please.
-
Torald walks into the training Room. He looks around, seeing someone walk towards him. Hello, my name is Torald Waruelf, I'd like to train to become a Battle Mage. I feel like that is a good way forward for me. Health: 29 Ether: 16

Torald doesn't seem too happy to go aboard the ship again. With a very long goodbye to the Kappas, he makes his way up the ladder, onto the ship. Ready as I'll ever be.- 859 replies
