  1. It's worth noting that Warehouse sales compound with their clearances, making some good deals sometimes. I don't suppose anyone has seen the Opera House here yet?
  2. The Opera House is on Lego.com, for release Sept 1st. The NZ RRP is apparently $499 - Not too bad considering a US RRP of $320.
  3. In all fairness, I think we should reconsider somewhat how we judge a sets' worth.. I know it's always typically been by ppp (Price per Part), but there is so much variety in how big or useful that part is. I recall hearing Lego sets a price point based on a sets weight plus the number of figures. Given the size of a lot of the parts in this set, I think the price is somewhat OK - you simply can't compare the ppp to a set full of 1x2 plates.. But maybe I'm just making excuses and justifications for the set...
  4. Sheesh! I've been looking forward to this set since I first heard about it, but was slightly worried they wouldn't be able to do the thing justice - boy was I wrong! Absolute masterpiece. Well done Lego (And Jamie), You've done yourselves proud. I too am not looking forward to finding out the price for Kiwi's, but I'll find it on sale at some point. So stoked right now. Beautiful set.
  5. Not bad if you're wanting the set. Personally don't find the model hugely exciting, Mine's sitting back in it's box waiting for a few years to be sold However, who else has seen the Opera house?! What a beautiful set. Seriously can't wait to get my hands on that one! Though, My guess is it'll be $550-$650, depending on how kind Lego is feeling (Which seems to vary a lot these days).. Still better ppp than SW sets though
  6. Hi all! I've finally had the time to finish off some things, and get the final parts onto my custom base for 3450 Statue of Liberty. I'd wanted the set for quite a while, so bought one earlier this year... Sold off some of my Star Wars UCS' to pay for it - by far the most I've ever paid for a Lego set! But The model is definitely impressive - plus, the way I see it, you win some & you lose some. I know others pay through the roof for a UCS Millennium Falcon or Eiffel Tower, both of which I got 30% off, so I understand sometimes paying the earth for a particular set is just part of the game.. None the less, I certainly try to not do it often! Anyway, the base is a custom by myself, reverse-engineered and based of aspects of several other I noticed and liked. The base is made in 3 rather distinct sections, and a solid rod through the middle to hold the weight. Here are some pictures: Here's a picture to get an idea of scale - Lined up next to the other 3 landmarks LEGO has done - They've certainly set a high standard for themselves! Needless to say I'm really looking forward to the Opera House coming later this year! If you look closely, you can also see set 42006, the Mini statue of liberty sitting at the base of the pedestal. To see the whole set of photos, head over to my flickr page. I do apologize for the quality of photo's - I've tried my best but because of the size of it all, it was somewhat difficult. If you'd like any addition info or photos, just let me know and I'd be more than happy to help out! I'd love to get your thoughts or comments, so let me know what you think! Personally I love the model, and it really does make a fantastic display piece.
  7. Hi all! Just putting a post out to mention the Christchurch Brick Show down in New Zealand is coming up in July! Admittedly, that's still a couple of months away, but registrations to display at the show are closing next weekend. If you're in the area, we'd love to have you along, or better yet exhibit! Check out LUG4/2's website if you'd like to register or get more information. Cheers! Sam
  8. To be honest I doubt many resellers would have bought them - The markup wouldn't be worth anyone's time. That set has a pretty low market value - They've been hanging around TM at those sort of prices for quite a while now, I'm not surprised to see them at that sort of discount. Nice set though, definitely one for the city fans. Also just a heads up given this is a NZ topic, couple of bits of Kiwi news - The Auckland Lego Train group are putting on a show this queens birthday weekend: and LUG4/2's show is coming up in July, and there's just over a week left to register for that: http://lug4x2.org/
  9. It's pretty good eh! I used mine Friday, considering on going in again.. But the age old question is 'do I need it' Usually you would, but LegoS@H in NZ GST registered and they pay the tax when you buy from them. That only goes for S@H though - anything from Bricklink/Ebay/Amazon will get taxed if over $400
  10. Keep in mind, if you're buying from Lego.com, their prices already include tax - plus they have free postage at the moment Or you can always wait for 20% off, which will no doubt happen at some stage. I really don't plan to pay more than $250 for the new X-wing, but most people would call that crazy
  11. Sweet! That's pretty much the best deal you can get on Lego locally.. Think I might use that 30% off one on the White house, it comes down to a very reasonable $63 - for, IMO, one of the real beauties of the Architecture line! I'm not sure I'll be able to bring myself to not use that 50% off tag though.. I'll need to have a look at whats worth buying in the <$30 mark.
  12. Given that it's until August 31st, I think I'll wait for the May 4th Promo and hopefully stack up savings
  13. Cheers guys I might open up a topic when I manage to finish it. There's no way I'm doing instructions (Sorry, but I really don't have time for that for a ~X000 piece model), but I'd be more than happy to take photo's on the inside construction - the model is made in 3 modules. Hopefully I'll be able to put up a topic in a couple of weeks Sam
  14. Thought I would bring up this relatively old topic again - Seems this set can't help but keep increasing in Value! I finally took the bullet and bought the set and built my own pedestal. Seems there is quite a large variety of custom pedestal's around the place for this set. Here's a picture of my setup: 3450 Completed on base by LegomanNZ, on Flickr I definitely recommend the set - but at the price it fetches it certainly isn't for the faint of heart! Lovely model, but I concur that it really needs the pedestal. I can't take complete credit for my pedestal, I did take inspiration from several other models, and my final model is somewhat reverse-engineered from one that I really loved.
  15. Hey guys, as some of you are aware, I'm currently on my way toward building a pedestal for the Statue of Liberty.. But some of the parts are strangely hard to find. I've bricklinked the majority of the parts, but am still in need of 30 'Dish 4 x 4 Inverted (Radar)' in tan. It seems odd that there are so few on BL, but anyho. Does anyone here have any? I would imagine that it's possible others picked up multiples of this set (which had 3 per set) back when they went really cheap at various clearances. If anyone has any they wouldn't mind trading/selling off (the more the better, I'm not really going to bother importing buying single ones) please be in touch :) Cheers
  16. A new UCS X-wing? I admit that I did wonder if the day would come - Glad I stopped officially collecting them last year or I would feel slightly mad having two UCS' of the same set! I'm slightly surprised they bought out a new X-wing before a first UCS TIE, but perhaps it will increase the likelihood of one. Not a bad set though, It looks well designed and a great display piece. At this stage I imagine I'll be picking one up. It certainly does give me hope for a re-released 3450 Statue of Liberty!
  17. Heh, that Y-wing isn't UCS, just a rip-off :P
  18. This honestly made me laugh. Reading through the article reminds me of those pathetic conspicy theories looking way too hard into things in an attempt to put meaning into co-incidence. Good article for a laugh, but not much else..
  19. I think I should pass, Given its not a set I'm dying for, I'll let someone else have the opportunity - I know Epic_red was pretty keen to find one when I spoke to him
  20. Wow, 7929 is an absolute steal! But to be honest, I can't recall ever even seeing half those sets at the Warehouse. None the less, some more good deals to know about for those that can find them! I was interested when I found a couple of the kingdom joists - They were marked at $184ish but scanned in at $250.. Obviously no clearance on that one! Haha
  21. I was around the Riccarton area this afternoon so had a look to try find any castles, but unfortunately didn't see any - sorry mate, must have just been a bit late. As for bears/forest police stations, we might be able to work something out - I'll flick you a PM
  22. Hmmm, If I head out today I might check it out Thats a really good price on an unexpected journey! I didn't see any in my travels on Wednesday.. has anyone actually seen them in store? Same with the 1022X sets.. Can't say I've ever seen them at a Warehouse. Maybe they're more common up north where they have larger stores. As for my bears, I think I will keep them - unless I find more forest police stations. I can't imagine needing more than 3 bears, but if anyone finds forest police stations, I'd happily take a couple
  23. I went out and has a look around the place last night - I noticed that quite a few of the games are clearanced too - most of them were around 50% off, apart from Battle of Hoth. I ended up getting A couple of those forest police stations - I've wanted that set since I saw it, primarily for the parts and such. However if anyone wants to make an offer on bags 2 & 3 (Helicopter and 4WD, have 2 of each) I'd be happy to trade them off/sell them on, I really have no use for them. I didn't think to even scan monster fighters - silly me. Can't recall if I saw any vampire Castles or not.. If I see any - how many would you want Callum?
  24. Thats it, I'm gong on a hunt now! Keep an eye on the website, they seem to spontanously come back into stock - I managed to pick one up about five minutes ago (Massive thanks to Evil-elmo for the heads up on that)
  25. No way?! Far out, thats an insane deal. I just got home from holiday last night, and given that the set is not even on their website any more I'm assuming the deal is well dead. Good find - Very lucky. And Harmacy.. I noticed you've put some parts on Trademe... I'm watching them
