Welcome to the world of Pokémon!
Rayman replied to tin7_creations's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Absolutely stunning Tin7, no criticism this time around. You should make either a Pokeball or a Voltorb next! -
Aha, now it all makes sense to me Tin7 Well I look forward to your final version. Although from the picture the hair looks pretty well proportioned I remember that Ash had pretty big hair in the anime. I made the same mistake when I started painting my customs by not priming them. I ended up painting a little under 500 layers of paint as well, and despite all that hard work the finish was uneven and the sculpted detail was lost under all that paint! Painting 101: USE PRIMER! Trust me your life will get easier once you do I have always used acrylic paints, and combined with the primer the results are great.

Wow Tin7 I am very impressed with your sculpting skills, you've really nailed Ash's hair, although it has been a very long time since I've watched a Pokemon Episode he is instantly recognisable. A couple of comments if I may: Did you use a primer before you painted your Pikachu? I use and absolutely swear by: Tamiya Surface Primer It shows the imperfections of the about-to-be-painted surface as well as improving paint adhesion. This also gives the paint a more uniform finish, it's a must before painting custom sculpts. I don't know what Ash looks like in the latest series, but from my shaky memory of Pokemon Ash was a young boy wasn't he? Perhaps Brassoing off the chin line could make him look younger? Just an idea, what do you think mate? Here's a photoshop of you already brilliant custom. Once again great work Tin7

The Penguin's Harry Potter minifigures..... )

Did you file down the neck for Uncle Vernon? It's such a nice touch, it makes him that much fatter. Nice job with the sculpting. -
[Star Wars] 327th Star Corps Trooper
Rayman replied to Rayman's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I appreciate the comments as usual Thanks for the frontpage and the customizer icon LuxorV. I have a few more WIPs on my work bench which I am itching to show. Yep I made the decals myself. They have been sealed with a semi-gloss acrylic spray. I prefer this over full gloss as the finished result is closer to the sheen on TLC parts. -
Hi everyone, this is an old decal design that I haven't turned into a figure until now - I recently purchased a new printer so this was a great excuse to finally print, make and show you fellows this custom. Everything except for the helmet is custom. I thought it would be interesting to make a Star Corps trooper without the pauldron printed on the torso. Perhaps the bulk of Commander Bly's Troopers look like this unlike the lieutenants shown in ROTS. Hope to post more customs in the next few weeks. Cheers, Rayman

This is an objective judgement but I personally believe that the Magnets are better printed than the original Denmark figures.
-
Perhaps it's the apparent "milkiness" of the sand green helmet that makes it look odd. But looking at Boba from the 3D render images from the Toyfair handbook that helmet looks pretty good. Thi-sen would be one of the worst for this wave, he has a shrunken head! At least the other figures are in proportion.

Nice and simple review Siegfried, thanks for that The new Arealight parts are exquisitely printed. I don't have any of Arealight's new ABS parts but I do have two of his older resin hand cast female torsos. Strength and durability-wise they're about the same as the original LEGO torsos. I know they look fragile but I believe Arealight has only removed a superficial layer of plastic for the hips. So they're just as good as TLC's.

I had a great day all day Ras, although it was absolutely LEGO free. Any luck on your end Ras? Also it's never too late for more birthday cheer, too much lightsaber cake can't be a bad thing can it?
-
Aalya for sure. Boba Fett concedes as I am not a fan of the torso print. Worst for this year, is the new clormie redesign.
-
Wow! I wasn't expecting this I am very touched. Thank you everyone. Hopefully in 2010 I'll be able to contribute more and more to this wonderful community. Mmmm extra birthday hours, thanks YG-49. I just had a great chocolate cake, and now to my pleasant surprise you've given me one with X-Wings, TIE fighters, and a DEATH STAR! I don't think anything can top that It just got that much better, thanks commdr_neyo. LEGO does come before love and health. To a great year ahead! Thanks Zorro! This should be the perfect excuse for a brand new ARC-170 Starfighter! Thanks Walrus Keeper! I am most humbled by that, The Penguin, and a fine day to you as well good sir. Haha Happy Birthday to you too Ras! I can't believe we share the same birthday! I appreciate you allowing me to share in your birthday cheer.

Much like the new clone trooper torso print, I am not really liking Boba's new torso as well. It looks odd how it tapers inwards. Haha, the only reason why you get the Venator now is to get that Death Star Hologram!

That is one very well proportioned weapon! It definitely holds well in both hands of a minifig. Will surely by now a virtuosos of the mini-figure.

I appreciate your comments, and I am glad that my custom has been well received. tin7: The Luffy in the photos on brickshelf is the only one I'll ever make, as it was intended purely as a gift. I don't even have one for myself! So i don't plan on mass producing these figures. So the figure is defintely a one off. I was glad that I could take some photos of it before I gift wrapped this on Sunday so that I could share this. However tin7: I do have some spare decals left over from making this, and I would be more than happy to make these avaliable to anyone who is interested. Just send me a PM, and I'll see what I can do. Nightshroud99 and tin7: The hat was made using this piece as a base. I had the bottom half cut off, and attached to a 3mm circular piece of styrene, which formed the the basic shape of the hat and the brim of it. Modeling clay was then added to the motorcycle helmet to beef up it's roundness. Once the proportions were right, I sanded down the hat and gave it a coat of yellow and red paint : Burman The face decal was the most difficult to apply - as you can imagine! The photos don't show it but the actual face decal only wraps around the "face" part of the head. The top before I applied a coat of black acrylic paint to it is actually flesh. I hope to show more of what I have been up to soon, and thanks again for looking!

a quick question about lego colors
Rayman replied to tin7_creations's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I would have to agree with LuxorV, often the only solution to this is to alter the colour that is too light in an image editing program. I always have scrap pages of a good quality glossy photo paper on hand to do test prints of my decals before they're ready for the decal paper- It took 6 test prints before I got the skin tone to look right on my Luffy figure. So for each failure I had to go back to the illustrator file and tweak the file until I got a result that I was happy with. -
Hello everyone, it's been a long long time since I've posted a new figure. Here's one I recently completed as a birthday present for a friend of mine. He's a huge fan of One Piece, so I thought that it'd be a great idea to create the main character in LEGO. Here he is: Luffy D. Monkey I hope you guys like him : ) Rayman

Aha, I thought so. Very sharp 'trim' job of the official faces.
-
These are by far the best looking plastic mythbusters yet Were any of the heads custom made? They look quite good!
-
Yeah I noticed that as well. However I don't think that's battle damage, looks more like a misprint to me. Still the torso design looks great. But I am sure that people who have a collection of the old style phase 2 clones won't like the new design. Argh! messy clone collections anyone? Irregardless of the new clone design. Barriss is a clear A+

Wow agi2007, you tell straight away that you're a professional graphic designer. Although my favourites of the bunch are the Ahsoka and Senator Chu-Chi nosearts, it's hard not to ignore the quality of the rest of them. I know noseart is supposed to be racy, but I would love to see Chu-chi with some more of her clothes on The Talz she is lying on top looks better than the actual LEGO minifig dare I say! The christmas themed ones are pretty fun too I know I promised to have my next nose art finished on Monday, but it got pretty crazy - as it should around this time of year. Anyway just in time before Christmas morning, here are the next two gunships. Gunship Number 7: Gunship Number 8: To everyone on Eurobricks: Have a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a safe holidays! - Rayman

Sweet! I haven't seen that one before. Thanks for the heads up Legoroni Will definitely have to do that one as well. Nice work Swash Buckler, it's always nice to see more artwork contributed to the pool. By the way would you mind posting up some photos of your custom gunship? I would love to see the stickers placed on an actual gunship. The Torguta's my favourite. You should try using Photoshop to draw up your decals you'll notice an instant improvement on the smoothness of your lines. I know that I've been keeping everyone waiting, but... I promise that I'll have two new designs completed and uploaded by next Monday.

BrickArms Chrome Packs Now Available!
Rayman replied to the enigma that is badger's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Argh! I can't believe I ordered the Blades and Sci-Fi pack from toywiz a few weeks ago would have saved a fortune on international shipping ($50 for both packs : \) Anyway I am glad that Will has decided to make BA in special colours more widely avaliable. I can also vouch for the durability of the chrome finish. They're TOUGH, and the pieces make a very satisfying metallic "tink" when dropped onto a surface. They're the next best thing to steel parts. -
Are those arms from the power miner rock monsters? If so your "torso bulk" compliments them very well. Great work there!

My Iron Man helmet on the other hand is too loose. It falls off rather easily when the figure is positioned upside-down. There was some mold flashing within the eye sockets, but an easy clean-up with an xacto blade did the trick. Also my helmet wasn't a match with LEGO red. It's pretty close though although more maroon than the official tint. Expect an unperfect finish with his accessories. They're very well sculpted but don't hold up well on the design side of things. I see AA products as decent action figure accessories that are compatible with LEGO figs.
