  1. It's space's bogie here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/space2310/4755841352/in/set-72157624135641705/
  2. Like greenmtnvince said, the other option is to use medium drivers from Big Ben Bricks: http://bigbenbricks.com/products/products.html
  3. I got some responses on my narrow gauge thread, but this guy used a small older 9V motor. I am doing a 6-wide oversized narrow gauge (see thread) as this fits my engine style. Thus, I will be doing an M-motor inside the tender with receiver and battery inside some other rolling stock (baggage car or something).
  4. I hope so, with the Zephyr rods. That "robot body" tank piece has a technic rod hole (plus sign), but about one brick of play as just a normal round hole. I think if I do the correct valve gear it should work. This is why the leading truck is decoupled from the two front pistons. I have a couple mounting options for the upper support on the valve gear, I'm just worried about the leading truck clearance on the tight IJ track. IJ track is in the mail, although currently I am working on an E7 pair of locos, so I won't be building this for at least a month. I will also be adding front pieces to the two trucks on the tender, ala Space's design, to make them more realistic. The 5 long "technic rotor" piece with studs is just not available in LDD, as are the minifig hands, at least not that I've found anyways.
  5. There are a few steam locomotives here: http://railbricks.com/instructions/steam-locomotives/
  6. Fixed a couple trim pieces and color:
  7. Awesome, that at least gave me some ideas for future narrow gauge trains. I decided on motorizing the tender as I don't think I could get the boiler look I wanted with gearing and motor inside. I will still have to make a piece of rolling stock with the battery. I went for a ~6 wide version of "Tweetsie" the last remaining locomotive from the East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad's old 3ft narrow gauge line. Currently it survives in the "Tweetsie Railroad" park in NW hilly NC, so maybe I'll have a chance to ride on it one day. I scaled everything from a pic ala SavatheAggie and also borrowed his boiler design. The loco looks a little oversized on it's wheels for two reasons, One, Tweetsie is a BIG ten-wheeler and is big on its wheels to begin with. Two, I will be using BBB medium drivers, which are bigger than the PF wheels currently in the model. Without further ado: I am going to angle the cow catcher on the front using red hosing, and certain parts like the nose are illegal constructions, so they are placed slightly out of alignment (e.g. the nose is one brick out from the front, and the tank holders on the side are rotated up to allow space). The technic rods are place holders for driving rods from Zephyr, hopefully valve gear. Rods will be coupled using the BBB medium drivers. I will also be adding hosing along many of the clips. And the nozzle will be replaced with a gold hand for the safety valve. I'll also be doing gold details like the original (above). All in all looks pretty good. An M or L motor will fit in the tender powered with Space's truck design. Blind driver in the middle with 1 brick of sliding room for the sharp IJ curves. Comments, suggestions? I think the proportions are pretty good for a BIG narrow gauge engine. Almost the size of the Constitution, but we 3-wide trucks. Thanks!
  8. Awesome, Thanks! I think I am going to give up powering the train from the loco, using Space's bogies in the tender. The Tweetsie tender is squat but long, so I should be able to cram everything in there. The issue I would see with Ashi's is the connective frame is outside the drivers, which I wouldn't do with a steamer.
  9. Hey roamingstudio, I have that truck design in my first post: The issue I am having with that truck is adding a third center axle. He uses a 3 wide technic piece to hold the drive rod, the issue is there is only 2 wide space inside the truck, so you can't use this in the center of the middle axle. I need to somehow mount that middle axle with still having a central drive rod. Or find some other driving linkage.
  10. Hey Guys, Currently purchasing parts for my first project (more on that later), but starting plan the next one. I am looking to build a narrow gauge steam locomotive and railway with the Indiana Jones track. I am looking at a classic 4-6-0 ten-wheeler, similar to the Lone Ranger Constitution but scaled more to narrow gauge. Ala Walter E. Disney: or more like Tweetsie No. 12: To scale to narrow gauge on the 3-wide IJ track I wanted to use 50254 for the leading truck wheels and three sets of 55423 for the drivers. My issue is gearing the drivers while still making it look like a steamer on the outside. I am aware of Space2310's bogie, but was trying to keep the outside a little less clunky and just having a driver rod with something like 32065 or custom Zephyr rods. So I am asking for your help to design a 3 axle narrow gauge PF bogie, hopefully internally framed. The center axle probably has to be floating to contend with the 3-wide sharp curved IJ track... Any bogie gurus out there?!
  11. A lot of the forum members here have instructions in their BrickLink stores. Have you seen these? I'm too new to remember the specific users (Jopiek maybe?) but maybe others can chime in.
  12. My question is how about Market Street in this scheme?
  13. To the last two posters, I agree with both statements. While I don't foresee or expect a fully flushed HO hobby assortment, I do think with a little enrichment to the start of a system (to start with single duplicate cars and a bit more track) a larger following could be fostered. I agree LEGO should provide a broad spectrum, I just wish certain themes would see a little more in depth attention (i.e. trains and pirate ships!).
  14. New to the forums, lurked for a while, posted on the "intro" thread and posted about wanting to build a full Constitution from the movie. I like a couple of sentiments on this thread. The EN, Maersk, and HE are all awesome. I couldn't have hoped for better trains when I was 12 with my "Load 'N Haul". And yes for the triquel "TRAINS"!!! That'd be awesome. The way I see the extra carriage thing is there are two separate arguments: FIRST the old way of looking at things: Things like the 9V era Octan Twin Tank Car, the Car Transport Wagon, Rail Crane, Blue Hopper Car, and even the Metroliner Club Car were unique cars (i.e. not a duplicate metroliner add on car from the set). I always see these unique cars not selling well as the reason why individual cars are not produced by LEGO anymore. My counter arguments to this point however are: 1. I own ALL of those add-on cars. I got them in my early teens (so my parents/relatives bought them for me). They were great presents for my aunts and uncles to get me because they only wanted to shell out $25-40. My parents could shell out the $109 for the Load N' Haul and my relatives could add onto the awesome present, ever increasing my enthusiasm. 2. I feel (interjecting personal opinion) that there would be more support if LEGO coddled (and tried out) fostering a rail system and community, essentially creating their own model railroading culture (aka HO). To some respects they have with the new awesome trains, but in other respects they have failed (i.e. only straight, curve, and point tracks). This system/community approach may have failed before (12v), but that was before my time, and also 30 years ago... maybe it's time to try in a different era. I know the counterpoint to this is the "Cuuso" argument. But that's where I say fostering a community/following would increase the numbers on things like the "Cuuso Conundrum". The SECOND overall argument: I understand LEGO is trying to make a profit and has limited production lines, etc. BUT (here come's the argument): If you are already producing the extra car (Metroliner, Red Passenger Train, Emerald Night), how much "extra" resources does it really take to produce the DUPLICATE car? Printing a box, throwing in instruction booklet #2 (make them ahead of time so #2 is JUST the extra car), and stocking this box. Make it an "exclusive" product (LEGO store only). I feel (personal opinion (up for debate)) LEGO would see more sales of say the 2nd EN carriage than the increase from people buying 2-3 sets for that extra carriage (cause this is extreme in price and it's probably just the very odd AFOL train fan). That 2nd carriage would be more approachable (price and hassle) for the AFOL, the kid with allowance money, and the parents who could care less about ebaying 3 extra EN locos. To bolster my FIRST and SECOND arguments, this 2nd carriage set would further the system/community and would also increase profitability of the train line in general (i.e. selling more 2nd carriage sets than 2nd and 3rd extra full sets to complete a train). To sum it up, I really feel the duplicate carriage argument is a separate argument that has not been tried in the newer landscape. I feel supporting the train system/community (new track options, semaphores, trackside structures, additional train options), creating a HO like following is a FRESH idea and *could be profitable if done strategically (cough, cross platform promotion: CITY, Lone Ranger, modulars, architecture, even space!).
  15. Hello All, I've been lurking for a while, but finally decided to post: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=84798 I figure I would introduce myself as well. I was into Lego trains when I was a kid, starting with the Load 'n Haul 9V set. I collected most of the trains back then up until my dark ages... which unfortunately include the $225 per car Santa Fe! Fortunately, I got back in right as the Emerald Night was just discontinued and affordable and the Maersk was still out. I've picked these up as well as just getting the Lone Ranger Constitution. I've also gotten into the modular series recently. I'm going to be heading into some full MOCs here soon, so figured I would introduce myself to the party (before asking for help!)! Thanks, Jeremy
  16. Hello All, I've been lurking for a while but am finally posting up. I am currently planning my first couple of full blown MOCs since coming out of my dark ages. Fortunately, I got back in right as the Emerald Night was just discontinued and affordable and the Maersk was still out. I've picked these up as well as just getting the Lone Ranger Constitution. After seeing the movie it is readily apparent I would like to make a full blown MOC of the train which is in the movie. It's also apparent that there are actually a few iterations (at least three) of the movie trains. The first which opens the film with the jail car and the couple of "coach" style church going passenger cars. The second is the "silver mine shootout" train with gun car and multiple silver hoppers as well as Cole's luxury cars. And the third is obviously the one in the long chase at the end with silver hoppers, Cole's luxury cars ("Liberty" and "Prosperity", etc.?), and a boxcar? The other advantage would be to easily add power functions without modding the "stock" cars (it seems as if the gun car has disappeared). Anyways, I've seen bits and pieces of this topic here and there, but no cohesive thread. There are a few ideas out there: Powering the jail car: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=81137&hl=79111 LDD Carriage (from Enlighten set): http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=84788&hl=constitution Toy Story Train car "Great West" PF mod: Really two are powering up the train and one is actually constructing a carriage. Here's a bit of train pron for the initial sequence train: http://thesevensees.com/the-lone-ranger-tonto-sandstorms-trains-hi-yo/ The initial train: http://thesevensees.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/The-Lone-Ranger-Train-thumbnail.png And a large format photo of the chase train pulling out of the golden spike ceremony: http://wdsspr.ru/W/Lone%20Ranger/stills/LR-2.jpg?download From all of this I will likely be building up "Liberty" and "Prosperity", a coach "church people" car, and a boxcar with PFs. Lego has already made the jail car and flat bed for us! Thoughts, ideas? Side note: I would also like to add some driving rods to the loco!
