Superb Rufus, wow how well have you done?! This looks great and your pictures are so evocative of a bygone age of awesomeness in Classic Space! I'm glad 'I was there' to experience it... From all angles it looks magnificent, I particularly love the Spacedudes pic and the first one under your "Conclusion" header - I'm glad the box purchase worked out well too. Sometimes you've just got to go for it! Absolutley superb, I can't stop looking at the pictures..! Great result, well done...!

Legends of Chima-Overall Thoughts
jamzee replied to LegoBenzine's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I'm an AFOL and was intent on not getting into Chima as I'm trying to cut down on themes but curiosity ebbed away my defence looking at the stunning minifigs. I've given in going for a taster in 70115 Ultimate Speedor Tournament as it is the most inexpensive way to get the two main characters Laval and Cragger (I'm not interested in the Speedor bikes themselves). Wow - very impressive minifigs and a magical build of the Lion mini 'base' - so many fascinating build techniques - total quality (I have not fitted the target/rear bars). I was so impressed I've also now gone for Eris Eagle Interceptor to go with Ewar's Acro Fighter. When we see licenced theme after licenced theme coming out it is refreshing seeing pure imagination at play and I wish LEGO every success with Chima, there really is alot of quality here for AFOLs to enjoy - I really hope it follows in Ninja (please don't) Go's soundly trodden path with longevity, rich model design, characters and imagination scope. I love the theme already - absolute quality and pleasantly & suprisingly Chima is highly recommended..! -
Yes that's exactly what I've been hoping for for the same reasons... particularly too as the range is so varied already, a huge ship is the only obvious initial thing missing (aside from a base). I really hope the theme is here to stay for a good while (when it finally gets here to the UK of course!), not 'here today, gone tomorrow'.
-
Aha I think I've just found a new ship for Billy - 9497 would probably do it! I've thought for a while some of the newer 'Star Wars' ships would actually make great 'Space' ships - personally I don't know them from Star Wars anyway(!) - 9525 is also a great looking ship but it doesn't say Star Wars to me, I think that one would be great for the GS Blue Squad...

I can't wait for these sets to be released in the UK either; its a huge shame they may well not be available until after Christmas - there is nothing like swooshing a new Space set around the Christmas Tree! I haved looked on ebay and BL but the shipping prices seem to rocket up the cost hugely. I'm just hoping there is a slight chance either LEGO S@H or other suppliers list them as available before its too late for the big day...
-
For me, this is LEGO's supreme era, growing up with LEGO Space was defining for me and I'm a huge fan. The purity and scope for adventure to the stars was then and still remains *quality..!* I'm slowly trying to re-establish my collection coupled with sourcing sets I didn't have some *ahem* good few years ago but as I'm sure you know it is expensive and hard work but the rewards are immense...! Taking deltarex101's point further if there are folks in the UK/South West England in particular who would like to get together to 'compare notes' maybe we should sort it! Good luck Rufus, I'm certain this is going to look spectacular..!

Hi Rufus, looking fantastic so far (and thanks for the mention re sourcing the box! - I think it looks great and a bonus it has the inner trays etc!). I can't wait to see the 'before' and 'after' shots, I'm sure it will be a worthy investment too...!

All sounds very interesting, being a huge 'Classic Space' fan, I really hope this new theme will be 'AFOL friendly' in that there is a huge nod to the original Space - we were just beginning to see it with Alien Conquest...
-
Good luck Rufus, I can't wait to see how your project unfolds; particularly seeing how well you restored the Yellow Castle!

Opening sealed antique sets - wonderful or painful ?
jamzee replied to drdavewatford's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thank you everyone for all your hugely interesting comments, I never thought there would be such a rich mixture of views - this is a great community to be part of. It is also amazing how much I can relate to alot of what is being said, particularly remembering what it was like to get new sets at Christmas and that if/when you do open a set and enjoy it, there are always more on the horizon (my wish list at LS@H is already around £500 again!). But, ultimately £ is v.limited, sometimes there are quieter spells of what I want to go for, so I think my saved sets can fill those periods nicely. I've counted up and I've got ahem 19 sets I've not opened (that is about double what I thought!), ranging from a couple of small Kingdoms sets to MMV, MVR, the new UCS R2D2 & Imperial Shuttle & Deathstar. I also have a mint, boxed 928 I recently got off Bricklink to savour being a huge Classic Space fan (not having been able to get it first time around!). Thanks again for all your comments, I'm really enjoying reading them...! -
Opening sealed antique sets - wonderful or painful ?
jamzee replied to drdavewatford's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Hi everyone, I've been thinking about posting this for a few days so here goes - I've got a good few new sets now to build although I'm enjoying knowing they are MISB, *rest assured* - I'm not 'hoarding to sell later', I certainly won't be selling them, its just that I like knowing the magic is yet to be enjoyed. One side of me is saying 'just go for it' and the other is saying 'enjoy knowing its to come'... Has anyone else experienced/managed to overcome this dilema??! Appreciate any advice...
