Heroica RPG- Quest #71: A Secret Under Eubric
Kintobor replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
OOC: Glad you asked! You'll see when Abbot arrives. Alexandre chases the rat away, who scurries into a corner and into a hole. He then inspects the chests and barrels, finding only a lantern. The chests and crates don't appear to have any name or logo on them, but the lantern does have the initials A.O.E. engraved on the bottom. -

Karie doesn't respond, but nods to Alexandre. She watches him walk down the steps and into the streets.
-
A cleanly written note is placed on the quest board. "Will the following individuals please meet behind the Beyland Enterprises building at 6:30 sharp. -Abbott Watt" CHOSEN HEROES FOR QUEST #71: William Harkenshire (Fred Daniel Yam) Alexandre le Chevalier (Capt.JohnPaul) Elgar Gligin (Jedi master Brick) I will have the quest up in a few hours. In the meantime, go shopping, and get ready for the quest.

Karie felt better from Romulus reassurance. "Thanks. It helps knowing I'm not the only one with the same feelings of guilt built up inside me." She got up and stretched. "Jeez, I wonder what Johon ups too. Drake wound up following us or something and the two are still at Johon's place. Supposedly the to don't get along. Have you met Drake before? He seems a little... screw loose, don't you think?"
-
I still wonder what Patricia's going to do once she realizes Kayla had a sister, and said sister may want revenge. : tongue:
-
I'm pulling your leg Endy! Also, BoyWonder, Romulus doesn't like sewers? Isn't both mine and Endy's quests taking place underground?
-
The Regret, right?
-
"You like my dagger? It's a little underwhelming when compared to Sexy, but I still feel attached to the darn thing. My dad gave it to me when I was sixteen. Said it was a family heirloom and that it was mine to keep. I've got through quite a bit with this dagger." She puts her dagger away and whips out her rapier. "This is Sexy. I just got her a little while ago in this dump of a port named Brendenton. Still, this rapier's nice." Talking to Romulus was helping her ease the pain left by the Apprentice, but there was remorse still lingering inside her.
-
"Well, call me devil's advocate, the next quest I'm on is for the town watch. The Hovels is the poorer area of the city, right? It's as the old saying goes: out of sight, out of mind." Karie pulled her dagger out of her sleeve and begins to play with it, tossing it up and down.
-
"From what I've seen, I can't trust them. The Hinckwells are the only one I'be dealt with personally, and they seemed in it only for the coin. They seem the like to do only what's best for themselves and their benefactors. Only problem is that it's in my best interest to keep a good reputation with them. Oh well. I've heard about these Wolfgang guys, a group of crooks trying to be become the seventh house. What do you know about them?"
-
Karie gives a small smile. Some she could relate to on more than one level. "You're from Charis? Small world!" Karie took another bite out of her apple. "My parents were from Dastan and moved to Charis shortly after my older sister was born. I never picked up the accent of either the Charisians or the Dastanese." She tossed the apple core onto the lawn. "So you're a werewolf? I hope I don't come off as rude if I ask who you became a lycanthrope?"
-
Karie was shocked to hear Romulus had a son. She took a moment and bit into her apple. "I was brainwashed by this guy, back on my first quest, called me a lab rat and insisted I'd enjoy being under his thrall. He jabbed his weapon at me and I went blank. When I came to, I was standing beside him and he insisted I enjoyed it. He said he would get me, and for that one moment be did. The worst part is I have no clue what I did or what I said. I feel wrong Romulus. I came here to get away from Chairis and all the baggage I left there. It seems as if more just keeps piling on me." She hangs her head in shame.
-
Karie looks at the man sitting beside her. She didn't register that it was Romulus until after she noticed the clothes he was wearing were the same that were Romulus wore. "It's nothing important. Just... stuff." Romulus wouldn't understand her situation. Would he? She kept it to herself and avoided eye contact with Romulus.
-
Karie finds a spot on the stairs outside the hall and sits. She looks at her apple and goes to work finishing it off. It seemed nothing lasts. Especially pleasant days. First Drake, then Alexandre persistently questioning her. She sat and wait for the next unpleasant event to kick her down the steps leading up to the hall.
-
They all have goatees!
-
"Look, I don't want to talk about it, and if you're going to persist I'm not going to sit here!" She got up and walked out of the bar with her apple. She didn't want the world to see the wounded Karie, the fragile Karie, the weak Karie.
-
"No no, both quests were successful it's just... complicated. Really complicated." Even after his death, the image of the Apprentice was still in her head. She still had no clue what precisely the Apprentice did to her, but the dual pronged scar was still on her body. All she could remember was everything going black as she could faintly hear and feel what was going on, with a few blurry visions in between. Some were from the battle with the Apprentice, right there and then, but others were more abstract. She still felt used. She still abused. She still felt wrong.
-
"I'd... prefer not to talk about that." Lab rat, you will enjoy being under my thrall!
-
"Well, I guess you make a point." Karie wasn't sure how to feel about this whole thing. She had witnessed first hand Dil and his scheme to monopolize on the cloth industry. She thought the shower would've help her relax. It seemed as if it was just the opposite.
-
Karie reacted just in time as an apple soared right at her head. She caught it in the air and looked to see who tossed it. The imp nodded. She looked at the apple and back at the imp. She tipped her nonexistant hat and gave a half hearted smile. She felt as if salt had been rubbed into her wound. A wound created by injured pride. She took a bite out of her apple and then turned to Alex. "To be honest, I've heard nothing of 'em. The quest I signed for has something to do with a storehouse they own, but besides a group of organized thugs, nothing much."
-
"Chairis. My parents moved there from Dastan, so I never got the accent. My dad started his own business as a merchant. He merged with the Shadeux to increase his sales revenue and then moved to Chairis shortly thereafter." Karie chuckles. "I was eighteen when my folks decided to send me off to university. They said they "couldn't handle my behaviour!" Never really found it insightful. Just a few old guys trying to exploit the richer families. And for what? A piece of paper and the right to wave it in others faces? Yeah right. I'll never understand why my sister was so intent on staying there." She takes a swig out of the bottle.
-
Most of the tension in her body left, as she let her arms drop. "Well, I suppose that makes sense." Karie sat down in her chair and grabbed the bottle back from Alexandre. "So, here I am, in the flesh, or in the pale, since very few people have ever seen my flesh. I must ask, are you from Chairis by any chance?"
-
Karie crosses her arms and stares Alexandre down. "I don't believe I'm inclined to tell you anything. What I do with my appearance is my business, and mine alone. So if that's the only reason you're here you can go get run over by a cart. Wait, how do you know my name?" She hadn't told anyone but her dagger was designed to be easily concealed. She had stuck it up her sleeve just in case this Black Knight decided to get violent.
-
Karie finishes applying the last bits of face paint. She grabs her mask from the sink and puts it back on her face. She checks herself over to ensure everything is in place. She poses in the mirror winks at herself and then leaves the shower feeling better. She walked back into the bar and back to the table in corner. Sitting at her table is a man in black armour. "Can I help you?" Her hands reached for her hips, with her right hand on her dagger, hilt. The guy seemed less than trustworthy. Which wasn't saying a whole lot, since she herself was classified as a "rogue".
