Heroica RPG- Quest #137: Where the Dead Go to Live
Kintobor replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Hmmph. Good for him. If you see any of the others, let them know I'm here." Geoffrey places some gold on the table as Stine confusingly picks it up and pours him a drink. It seems Geoffrey's been here awhile. Stine nods towards Sorrow as he pays up. "Overdue tabs. Running this place isn't cheap, and there's three people in particular who haven't paid. Wighty, the guy that owns the tool stall, Carlos, a member of the Church of Helvetia, and Frey, wherever he likes to hang out that isn't here. I don't have the time to go out and retrieve it, but if you two gentleman and whoever else you're with gets me back my money, I'll give you each a round a discount on drinks... and perhaps... being the bartender I could... loosen my lips on anything I've heard around town..." A New Side-Quest has been Added to the Journal. Journal Location: East Gates Current Time: Midday Day: Two Reputation: 3 Side Quests: Irisa slides the money across the table and pockets it with her bandaged hand. "Yes. Let's. Take a seat... er... well, just get comfortable." The lights in the building dim as the only thing Vindsval can see are himself, Irisa, the table, and the deck of cards she begins to shuffle. She shuffles for what seems like an eternity before she stops. The 3 Card Draw Irisa is about to read your fortune with the use of a form of tarot reading known as the three card draw. You must ask a question to Irisa, and the cards will reveal the outcome. It can be about the quest, your characters future, or something entirely different! Note: It's bad luck to ask two questions in a day! "So, Vindsval... what is your question?" -

Irisa giggles. "Soothseer? No, I am no such person. Although in my previous life I was a Sister of Fabuly Sybilla, and my ties to seeing the ever-flowing river of time has not ceased. Two women you seek? Curious... I've of course seen many a man, and a few women, come searching for someone of the fairer sex, but not often is there two." She moves her crystal ball off the table as she places it away, grabbing a deck of cards instead. "Tell me... I am willing to read your fortune... the Three Card draw. It may not pertain to events in the immediate future, but it will pertain to events yet to come... all for a fee of ten gold." Would Vindsval have his fortune read? "A fine choice sir..." Stine pours him a glass of Mulled Wine and takes Sorrow's gold. "Enjoy." Geoffrey turns to look at Sorrow, drink still in hand. "And I remember you and your cohorts besting us... all too well." Geoffrey takes a long drink of his wine before continuing. "Gone. Missing. I don't know. They couldn't of left Fellcrest, though.... what's your ranger friend doing now? Still enjoying his time as a mortal, I hope?" Geoffrey scoffs. "Oh please, whatever your issue is it can't be any worse than the tabs overdue with my patrons." --- The woman rolls her eyes. "It's a complicated story. I'm half a vampire and half an orc. There, happy? Can I carry on, or are you going to stare like everyone else in this town?" -
Someone clearly has never LARPed before.

Stop undermining my point!

Diplomacy and Intimidation, and the Harlots Promiscuity help sway moods. They help a party potentially sway an NPCs position on a subject, or even lighten the tension in a potentially hostile situation. Convert outright changes their opinion and their beliefs, and I think that's where my issue is. Being religious takes devotion and an amount of dedication. It just feels weird for someone to approach someone and say a couple of words on their religion and the other being 100% convinced. Especially NPCs of differing faith. Let me put it in this rational: when you watch a movie, you know the characters are just actors, and that the events and characters aren't real. We'll use the Marvel Cinematic Universe as an example. To these characters, however, this is their world, this is their existence, and their not actors playing characters, they are real people. Now imagine someone in the MCU came up and acknowledged this fact. How would that person be perceived?

Stine chuckles. "Well, that depends... what are you looking for?" The Creaky Coffin's Selection Mead (Causes the encouraged-effect, doubling the target's attack power for the duration of one battle.) Costs 20 gold. Soma (Causes the blessed-effect, allowing the target to recover a tenth of their maximum health at the end of each round for the duration of one battle.) Costs 50 gold. Mulled Wine (Causes the inspired-effect, doubling the target's current and maximum health for the duration of one battle.) Costs 60 gold. Myrrh (Causes the transcended-effect, restoring 1 ether per round to the target for the duration of one battle.) Costs 85 gold. Flame-distilled Brandy - Causes the encouraged- and the immune to ice-effects for the duration of one battle. Costs 30 gold. "If you plan on buying anything, you'll be drinking it here. The streets are littered with enough bottles, no need to add to the pile." 'If you got yourself a title, I'd gladly consider it. Perhaps you should go talk to that Decamon spokesperson! She's out by the Manor Gates, I think. Maybe she could hook you up!" Sorrow follows Althior into the bar. The man in the top hat turns and grumbles to himself. He looked familiar to the necromancer... "Hehe, another customer? Welcome to the Creaking Coffin. How can I serve you?" -
Sorry, High Cleric's Convert ability.
-
Now that we're seeing it in action, is the Conversion power of the Prophet not irritating anyone else? It seems really OP, and really scenario breaking.

"It's going to be hard to get there with the gates shut tight! How are we even supposed to get home?" Chestnut seems somewhat distraught at the thought of never leaving. Emer consoles her by wrapping his arms around her legs. "Oh, there, there, Chestnut. It's going to be alright. Better here than in that stuffy old Academy." Emer seemed reluctant with his statement, but he smiled at Chestnut all the same. Althior makes his way over to the saloon, and opens the door. It seems to be a slow day. The sickly looking bartender wipes down the table as the only noticeable patron sits, drinking away. Music seems to drift from somewhere, and Althior notices a device nestled in the corner seemingly playing music from a white roll. "Welcome to the Creaking Coffin." The man replies in a raspy, scratchy voice. "The name's Stine. What can I do for you?" "Are you a Decamon Champion, though?" Emer asks intently. Vindsval moves to the building and opens the door. Pushing the door open, it creaks as Vindsval squeezes in. Inside, Vindsval notices various relics and artifacts hanging from walls and placed on shelves, while scrolls and scripture of various strange images adorn the walls. A woman wrapped in bandages notices Vind as he enters. "Curious. I knew someone was coming, but not on this scale, or size. Perhaps a new door I should get. What brings you, Vindsval to Irisa's House of Clairvoyance?" --- The undead turned to Throlar and then to the two people, looking them over. "Them? They've been here since I've gotten here, which was a few minutes ago. I remember there used to be a Decamon Dispenser there, but it hasn't been there for a few days. Apologies if I'm not as helpful." -

The Crown is being planted on this Queen of Minstrels and Thespians noggin! Minstrel Karie is a thing!
-
It had only felt like a few days, but the week home with Masson left Karie antsy. She carefully placed Sexy in her trunk, but not before giving her one last kiss. She hoped to one day return to her favourite blade, but it didn't seem to be soon. She locked the rest of her weapons away, with the exception of her two palms, seeing how they were wrapped around her two arms. Readying her makeup, Karie gave Masson and her daughter a kiss each and headed out to the hall. Change was good, Karie thought, and on the way to the hall Karie stepped into a small salon, followed by a trip to Fabio's... --- Karie proudly walked into the Training Room, a gaggle of musical instruments in her arms. The Copper Fox chuckles. "Can't say I've seen you in a while. Let me guess... you want to train to be a Minstrel?" Karie smiles. "You won't need to be doing much, just a refresher." She took a seat in a chair as the Copper Fox readied himself a guitar, Karie pulling out her own. "Going to be honest, it's been a while since I played any musical instruments... but I'll knock your socks off with my vocal ability." Karie commented as she looked her guitar over. "Well then, if you know the basics of playing music, perhaps a refresher and some small vocal queues?" The Cooper Fox asked. Karie nodded enthusiastically as the two jammed for what seemed like hours. Karie streamlined through vocal training, taking only a few minutes before the Copper Fox was satisfied. "Considering how good that went, Karie, I'm surprised you're not in one of Wigglepike's productions. Congratulations. You're officially a Minstrel." Karie shook the Copper Fox's hand. "Thank you, I think it's finally time to bring a bit of my personally branded sound to this hall." Karie Alderflask-Cour, A True Hero, and a School Inspector (Kintobor) 24? Karie watches as Lind walks off. His chumminess when it came to Charon and his dragon overlord worried her. He worshipped a force of authority, one she didn't respect. He'd be going on the list. She turned to the rest of the adventuring party with a lighter air about her. "Well, I'm off to the Hinckwell Villa. If anyone would like to follow me, they're more than welcome to. Otherwise, Jinnipher, glad to see you're not such a jerk yourself. I... honestly wouldn't mind doing another job with you. Warlen, best of luck with that girl your chasing." As she walked off she motioned a solemn wave goodbye to Skrall. She felt somewhat bitter about his actions, but she didn't have the heart to say anything negative or positive. She hoped that one day the two could at least make something out of their broken friendship. OOC: Thanks for the quest Endgame, it was certainly interesting! I'll have more to say in a bit, but I did have fun. Thanks again! Also, Letter of Recommendation is going to the Hinckwells, in case it wasn't clear.

As Althior approaches the two, he can hear them in a conversation. "Emer, we can't just stay in this town! I know we came here for a reason, but we agreed to go and see the world!" "Ack, I know my little potato, but I ain't leaving this here town until I've gotten what I've came for: a battle!" The two look surprised as Althior speaks up, brushing themselves off. "Oh, sorry, sir, we're just anxious is all. My name is Chestnut, and this here is-" "Emer! Emer Proudiron! How'd you do?" By the sound of their voices and their physique Althior can tell the two people in front of him are teenagers, probably no older then sixteen. "Help? Well, we came to Babeleth from Eubric to participate in the Decamon card game. Most of the Champions live in Babeleth... or at least did live in Babeleth." "We wanted to play a game against a Decamon Champion, but apparently Lyudmila's lost her title, so we're stuck here doing nothing! I came here to fight a Decamon Champion, and by jove we're going to!" A New Sidequest has been added to the Journal Journal Location: East Gates Current Time: Midday Day: Two Reputation: 3 Side Quests: Vindsval looks at the sign. -
That's the only reason Annienal took the winged armour from Lethauros.
-
Karie admires the armour but shrugs when she realizes there's not a lot for her to use. "Eh, I'll take whatever. Call me a wild card in all this, but I'm willing to bargain for whatever item comes to me."
-
Karie nods, taking her time to reply. "I always viewed myself as being more sarcastic and brash, but chirpy... yeah, I guess I'm a little chirpy." Karie takes off her domino mask and looks it over in retrospect, her pasty skin having been smudged underneath. "I'd rather be a somebody than a nobody, and although the chipper side of me is a part of me and my being... there are days that comes crashing down, and my insecurities come to remind me of the things that I've done, and what has happened to me, and it's all I can think about."
-
Karie laughs, smiling as she tries to describe proggs using various means. "Well, Proggs are these curious little scorpion creatures. Actually, littles a bad word to use, as they can grow to massive sizes. I've met a few of them, and most of the ones I've met were rather nice. The infants are rather cute, as they scuttle about and act all curious and weird. The adults, though, are much larger. Bigger than a horse, at times. They're rather intimidating at first, but the ones I've met were rather knowledgeable and brave." Karie decides not to mention the Regret although it does cross her mind several times.

To the party's left was a curious building, there was no signage but it seemed to be a shop of some kind. To the right was a small saloon and inn, a billboard posted onto it's outer wall. Karie grabs the gold but holds out her hand again, frowning. "My medallion, Lind? Or perhaps if your so interested in titles, you should take the name String-Binder, for it seems you enjoy being the puppet of others?" Karie raises an eyebrow. Karie took a deep breath. "I know the feeling. Murdering the Apprentice. I had so much rage in me, and so much anger. I wanted to see him dead... and I almost did it." Once Lind is out of ear shot Karie leans on the railing. "I'm not looking for a bedfellow, if that's what your wondering. Unlike Jinnipher." Karie giggles to herself as she grabs a bottle of wine and uncorks it with her teeth. "I've asked a lot about you this quest, mainly because I'm nosey, and I actually think out of everyone in this group your the most sociable... well, besides string-binder. So... I feel it's only fair for you to ask some questions about me."
-
"Revenge is a weird concept. I understand the sentiment your going through." Karie ponders her own situation and its correlation with Warlen's. "There's times I've relished in ridding the world of people I despise. Heck there's people I still want dead. In this line of work, sometimes things get personal, and it's alright to relish victory, or cry over things that... well, get messed up. And they will get messed up. There's something I want to talk to you about... alone." Karie gives a caustic glance at Lind and motions him to leave the two alone.
-
Karie settles into the boat, ready to return home. She still hated travelling by sea, especially with a lack of good company. "Warlen, you doing alright? I mean, killing the dragon that murdered your friend?"
