  1. Just bought a MISB Helm's Deep for $105 USD, free shipping. Not the bargain of the century but judging by how hard it is getting to find these, I was pleased. Now the only LOTR set I don't own is the Orc Forge. Unfortunately I've blown my budget until April, so that will have to wait. :)
  2. Nice build! Especially using the parts from just one creator set- interesting challenge.
  3. As far as I can tell they've been selling ridiculously well. Amazon's been completely out of stock of them for a good while, and finding a significant sale on them is tough. I hope they sell well enough to keep the series going! I've not bought any Hobbit sets yet other than Riddles for the Ring, but they look good too, especially the Unexpected Gathering set.
  4. So far it looks like they're the only people that have stepped up and said "Jabba looks vaguely like us!" If the shoe fits....
  5. Thanks for the comments, all! :) I'd thought as well if there wasn't something I could do on the sides... I might look into that. Thanks!
  6. Lame. Just lame. Political correctness standards seem to have leaped drastically...
  7. My wife tolerates my LEGO hobby/obsession. I very rarely tell her what I buy beforehand, but I always have it shipped to our home, and she opens all packages that come, so nothing is ever a secret. I sometimes feel a bit guilty about the bigger sets I buy, but I don't want to start keeping secrets from her, so it's all in the open. I'm thinking about establishing a monthly "allowance" in our budget for LEGO or any other thing I may wish to buy, so that I can know my limits and spend conscience-free within them. :)
  8. Just bought the Mines of Moria (9473) on eBay for $72. $8 off MSRP, not great, but better than nothing, and the 2012 LOTR sets are starting to climb in price... Need to grab Helm's Deep and the Orc Forge before too long.
  9. I like this set a lot! Great design and clever use of BURPS- I agree that it'd be tough to capture the spirit of the older sets without them, since they were so prevalent. Makes me wish I could PAB the parts and build one myself...
  10. (For those not familiar with farming/ranching, a stock tank is a large water tank/tub for livestock, usually cattle.) The local ranch supply store recently received an order of stock tanks... but they weren't expecting this kind. After years of deceiving servitude the cows have risen up against humans, and have quickly overrun hastily thrown-up defenses by local SWAT and military teams. This assault vehicle carries heavy armor and four front mounted flamethrowers, powered by.... methane gas. :) My first "serious" MOC since my dark ages, and while it's been challenging to work with my still small collection, I've made do and it's been fun! I'm open to suggestions! Thanks for looking! Stock Tank 1 by das_cortman, on Flickr Stock Tank 2 by das_cortman, on Flickr Stock Tank 3 by das_cortman, on Flickr
  11. Hm, maybe I bought to soon- I snapped up another sealed Elrond polybag yesterday on eBay (it'd only been listed a minute or so) for $18- I think I'll resell that one if I can. Besides that I also bought Gandalf at Dol Guldur (30213), Frodo's Cooking Corner (30210), and the Uruk-hai/ballista (30211). Going on a polybag binge, lol.
  12. Very nice mini build!
  13. Amazingly well done and instantly recognizable! Very nice MOC.
  14. Just bought an Elrond polybag minifigure for $14.99 plus $2.00 shipping on ebay. Cheapest sealed bag I could find on Bricklink (which I promptly bought two weeks ago) was $28, so I'll probably see if I can resell this one.
  15. Nice scene! Good disguising job on Frodo and Sam.
  16. Great! I doubt my entry will even come close looking at a lot of the ones so far (The steampunk/pirate mech is absolutely amazing) but I'll give it a try. Mine will be done in a couple days!
  17. The Portal of Atlantis gave me some trouble initially. It's pretty complicated, but when it was finished it was robust enough. Awesome looking as well!
  18. No kidding... but try finding one for much cheaper. I think I may have been able to save $5 or so if I'd sniped one on eBay, but this was about the lowest price on Bricklink. It is a pretty awesome fig, and if I want the complete LOTR line, it's gotta come too. :) Better $28 now than $68 a year from now (who knows).
  19. I'm pretty new to the forums- is it OK if I enter in spite of this? The contest already has me inspired. :)
  20. Just bought the Uruk-hai Army and Riddles for the Ring, the latter mainly for the Bilbo Baggins figure, which is very nicely done. Also bought the Ultrasonic Raider (Ninjago) and the Forest Police Station, both on sale at Walmart, and I'm trying to resell both. I'm not into Ninjago but I won't be too sad if the police station doesn't sell. I like that set!
  21. Just bought an Elrond polybag ($28), Riddles for the Ring ($10) and the Uruk-hai Army ($30). Trying to collect all the LOTR sets. I'd also really like the Kingdoms Joust (10223), but that'll have to wait till I have more money.
  22. LEGO has already licensed the number one theme for me: Lord of the Rings. I just wish they would make about twice as many sets, or else a line of UCS sets, which would be awesome. Otherwise? I know it won't happen, but a line based on Fallout: New Vegas would be cool- the weapons/ruins/desert theme would be pretty neat.
  23. ^ This. The figures aren't meant to be 100% lifelike- they're meant to look like LEGO minifigures. I saw some MB figures the other day, and was amazed at how ugly they are- knobby joints, large gaps where the legs join the torso, just ugly. LEGO minifigures are extremely precise, and I like them that way.
  24. The rocks look great! I just got the official Weathertop set and I wish it had been more like this one. Only thing I would say is that you could expand on it and make it bigger.
  25. Just placed a Bricklink order for one Elrond minifigure/polybag. $25!
