  1. 1184 - Cart - Theme: Ninja (LXFML-File, LXF-File) LDD 4.3.6, Brick version: 1182 This set is also known as: 1099 - Ninja Blaster - Theme: Ninja 3016 - Boss with Cannon - Theme: Ninja (click for larger image) [Brickset] [Bricklink] [Peeron] [LEGO.com] Errors: Missing stickers / prints / minifig decorations (replaced with most appropriate surrogates where applicable).
  2. Ground moles are known for their bad eyes. That's up to you. I mean, it's just one checkmark. I switch it occasionally. OK, I changed the thumbnail to a width of 256px (clear your cache if it does not yet show up).
  3. OK, good points. I however prefer LXFML files in the first place, as it's easier to edit them manually and to copy-&-paste stuff around (mainly decorations and colors / materials not present in LDDs GUI). I will nonetheless accustom myself to using both LXFML and LXF files. Why do you do that manually? Do you have no scripts for automating this work, too? May I call you "Ground Mole" ? Note to self: Don't mess with a regulator! By the way, the current forum software has an option "Ignore all signatures when reading topics" to switch off signatures (incl. their images), so you won't confuse them with the actual posts when indexing. Maybe you could update the guide to explain what minimal size every image at least must have to be perceived by you.
  4. You can adjust the brick palette's width to up to 24 columns, but alas, LDD doesn't save that width and restores it back to 3 columns on the next startup: Not a bug but still annoying. Cutting off the preview control instead of using scroll bars is so 80s. And the GUI doesn't even contain all the available decorations hidden in the db.lif: Not a bug but still annoying. And still does not contain every color LDD can cope with like 183, 184, 185 or 186: Not a bug but still annoying. Yeah, using LDD on a netbook or any similar small-screen device is a pain in the a‍s‍s. I doubt that the LDD developers have to use LDD themselves a lot; otherwise they surely would pimp its usability drastically.
  5. Hands-free repositories like this or this allow the consumption of (not too hot) soup and still have both hands clean and free for building.
  6. Done: LXF added. (Although real LDD maniacs don't need an LXF file: They take a glance at the LXFML source code and "see" the actual model, just like in "The Matrix" ) Nah, the large image is linked: Just click the thumbnail to get a bigger one.
  7. Thanks a lot for those detailed shots. Guess I should get some more 30361c, as they seem to come in quite handy when it comes to adding those rigging. Did you use preassembled shrouds or do you knot them all manually? By the way, do you recall how many meters of cord this ship's rigging consumed on the whole? And how on earth do you keep her dust-free without vacuum her kaput?
  8. 1427 - Ogel Marine Slizer - Theme: Alpha Team (LXFML-File, LXF-File) LDD 4.3.6, Brick version: 1182 (click for larger image) [Brickset] [Bricklink] [Peeron] [LEGO.com] Errors: Missing 4859 replaced with 48183 Missing stickers / prints / minifig decorations (replaced with most appropriate surrogates where applicable).
  9. I don't know if this qualifys as a real bug or rather some sort of annoying glitch, but the LDD window still can't by no means be made smaller than 1024×768 pixels. Thus LDD can't cope well width Windows 7's aero snap functionality: By pressing either WIN+Left or WIN+Right, the respective window is supposed to snap either to the left or right side of the screen, consuming not more than half of its pixels. Assuming a screen with the common FullHD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, the window then should not be wider than 960 pixels. LDD however even then keeps its minimal width of 1024 pixels and thus overlaps with any other aero-snapped window. This behaviour makes it quite annoying to use LDD side by side with other programs like a browser or a PDF viewer. Since there is way enough space both in the menu bar and in the toolbar, I recommend to lower the minimal width of the LDD window down to 960 pixels (or to pay me a screen with 4k resolution...).
  10. Would you mind to upload some more photos please, preferably a few zoomable hi-res ones? I'd love to behold some of the construction details, as I can't really manage to get my ships stable without gluing the bricks when their masts become somewhat longer than 25cm (they make reasonable wrecks though... )
  11. Nice vessel. How did you manage to stabilize those long masts? Did you put cross axels through the 6143s?
  12. Yeah! It's a pity that it was abandoned that quickly. OK, it had its flaws, but the quite similar Fischertechnik is available since 1966 and still sold (in spite of the fact that it is not Lego-compatible...) But back to topic: Is it really a good idea to count single bricks? Wouldn't it be more useful to count whole kg or even m³ ? Or is this a thread à la "How to attract burglars?"
  13. It depends: If the water is too hot for you to bath in, it probably is too hot for your bricks, too. But if you don't get blebs and blisters from the heat, your bricks will presumably survive it, too. Except maybe electric parts and stickers. Anyway, you shouldn't do that too often and only use mild soap: In any circumstance avoid the use of nail polish remover, acetone or similar cleaning compounds, as they almost certainly will mar the surfaces and blur the colours (although you might get some "unique" effects...). Sure, gluing is nothing to be done thoughtlessly. But reinforcing gracile sets with improper bricks can be annoying as well. Why not give it a try? Be daring, but before ruining a large and expensive set, you might want to try it at a somewhat small and cheap one.
  14. Additional trans-clear support elements? That won't be La Tour Eiffel any longer but rather some sort of Centre Georges Pompidou . No, seriously, glue only those sets you are absolutely sure you will never ever disassemble, as it would quite contradict the purpose of Lego. But even if you glued your tower and regret it later: Put it in a tub of at least 40˚C / 105˚F hot soapy water, wait some time and the glue will peel away. I used to stabilise some fragile structures that way and I'm quite happy with the results.
  15. OK, arguing that way, I am eager to get some Clikits parts in LDD, too...
  16. Nah, that pretty sure ruins the optical appearance. Rather put little drops on the studs which won't be visible when another brick is put atop of it, especially at the crtical and unstable structures. This way you get a quite stable connection without ruining the visible surface too much.
  17. Nope, some constructions are really not as stable as they should be from a structural engineer's point of view. If you are sure you will never ever disassamble a well-beloved set, you might enhance stability by using something like this. But that's pretty much a one-way decission, so calculate its use carefully.
  18. For each and every model there is a download link to leech. I guess nobody will confect a single folder for you. However, if you get familiar with wget, you might parse the source code of those two threads, iteratively loop for links containing strings like ".lxf" or ".l3b" and batch download them on your very own. By the way, if you want others to do something for you, it might be a good idea to use phrases like "please" and "thank you" from time to time.
  19. Do you actually read the answers you get?
  20. Sorry for again bumping an rather old thread, but according to the FAQs this is the right place to discuss technical issues concerning the EB website. שָׁלוֹם: Obviously the forum software here allows the use of unicode characters beyond ASCII, including right-to-left characters. Can I thus still surf savely to Eurobricks.com using an Apple device? To what extend is Eurobricks affected by the unicode of death? Are there any filters implemented here preventing potentially harmful strings like the ones over at hxxp://i.love.my.mac.org.lu/minimal.html [please don't click this link / don't open this URL on an apple device as it may cause severe annoyances!]? Is the technical staff aware of this issue? How can I protect myself from pranksters adding those strings to signatures or linking to websites containing such content? Don't get me wrong, I don't want to instigate anyone to get into evil mischief, but I am seriously concerned.
  21. Well, we have a whole subsection here on Eurobricks that deals with user-created material: I can't see why real bricks / minifigures should be handled that much different than virtual ones: TLG doesn't sue even commercial retailers of real custom minifigs, so I don't get the point why virtual customization should be that much worse. TLG does not have to include any user-created content in LDD at all. They only have to offer an option in LDD like "Path to additional decoration files"; it would be up to the user to fill this path with proper PNGs. The LXFML file would contain an entry pointing to a file's path. If this path is valid and the PNG file exists there, LDD displays its content as a brick's / minifig's decoration; if not, the brick / minifig remains undecorated. No embedding of the actual graphic file in the LXF zip archive is necessary, since it would be up to the user to distribute the decoration PNGs along with the LXF file. Technically TLG couldn't be made responsible for the stuff the user creates with it. But morally they might be brought in conjunction with any "inappropriate content". I guess this is the most serious obstacle. Anyway, did I mention the legacy baseplates yet?
  22. I read it entirely (and also this one) but I still wasn't sure how the current status is (since the last post here was more than a year old), thus I dared posting that question. Sorry to have bothered you, thanks for clarifying.
  23. Really? No bionicle supporters showed up here so far. Can't be much of a fuss, can it? Anyway, I'm always up for any sort of flame war tough discussion, since that might help me leverage my post count: I wanna be an Archduke by the end of the year... [sorry, just kidding]. I don't mind if those parts are added. But I don't need them. And since there are legacy bionicle parts as well, I'd rather prefer "regular" legacy parts to be added: Having seen 2348/2349 being added recently made me glad, but having a look at the recent posts by vean at "[KEY TOPIC] Official LEGO Sets made in LDD" shows me that a lot of classic sets still can't be built properly in LDD without replacing essential parts (like the aforementioned baseplates). I'm a bit confused now: Decorations are prints (and maybe stickers) applied to a part consisting of one single sort of plastic, multicolor parts however consist of two or more different plastics, right? So there is no real choice, isn't it? Or are there pieces actually printed in real life which are modelled as multicolor parts in LDD? Maybe 30138? I don't have the real bricks, so I can't really tell. If it will be easier and thus faster to get, the pirate parrot 2546a should be multicolored instead of decorated, since I guess TLG won't allow the process of re-creating graphics to be crowdsourced to the community, will it? I'm not much of an artist, but I guess there are enough around here willing to digitize prints (and maybe even stickers) in a quality that would even satisfy TLG's QA. All TLG has to do is to specify an additional path for custom PNGs to be used by LDD; they don't even have to deliver user-made prints and stickers with LDD itself, as this would be done by channels like brickshelf etc. But then TLG would no longer control what those PNGs may depict: Having headlines like these in mind, you can easily imagine what negative implications any sort of "inappropriate content" (whatever that may be) might have: An user-made LDD screenshot of a minifig torso printed with either "الله أكبر" or one of these could easily harm TLGs reputation, when posted in the "right" forums. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I guess TLG thus will never ever allow custom content to be added to LDD. It would be très cool nonetheless... Anyway, back to topic: Ceterum censeo legacy baseplates should be added: 6024, 6092, 3947, 2552, 606 [9 studs!], 309, 4478 or 6100!
  24. It's a matter of budget, isn't it? The money you spend for storing Lego can't be spend for Lego itself. If I had unlimited money, I would get something like this. But luckily the same vendor offers some cheaper solutions, too: I prefer the ones with a transparent cover: They are dustproof but you can get the right box at a glance; there are different sizes, dividers and insert boxes, so that you can keep your rare parts as homogeneous as your bulk parts; they are easily stackable; and since they are "Made in Germany", they are almost indestructible: No workshop around here exists without them, almost every DIY store here sells them. I don't know, however, if this is true for the "new world" as well.
  25. Sorry to bump that old thread, but what's the progress of getting an Eurobricks app? Since "app" is a 3-letter-word, the forum search function did not return much results. Is it under construction at all? Or was that idea abandoned a long time ago? Any news on this topic?
