A lovely little house crammed with details.

Aww shucks! Only 32% I really think I'm more evil than that. I even have a shirt that says "I <3 Evil"!

The swordfish is the only thing about this that gets my interest. I hope it's the old style shark body. I would love to see the two types co-exist. Not every shark needs to be gigantic.

I just got Dino Valley because it's so heavily discounted and the Dinosaurs and some other pieces looked cool. However, I'm now running into the problem that I don't know how to to connect the Duplo pieces up with the regular system pieces. Well that's not entirely true. I know the two basic techniques - that a 2x2 system brick can fit on top of a duplo stud or that a 1x2 Duplo base can fit on a 2x4 system plate/ brick etc. I also found that a 1x1 system round can rest inside (not a snug connection) a Duploe stud (used to great effect here). However there are a couple Duplo pieces that have a round 1x1 (Duplo) bottom. If it was square I would know what to do. I tried sticking a 1x1 round in there (way too skinny) and a mini-fig head (just too wide) but short of adding another huge Duplo piece on I'm trying to figure out if there is anyway to get to a system connection. Any ideas? Or other cool Duplo-system connection techniques? I realize now that pictures would be immensely helpful in this topic. Maybe when I get home tonight I'll add some.

The Theme you most want to Be in.
fallentomato replied to Peppermint_M's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It's funny you should bring this up, just this morning I was dreaming of trying to infiltrate an underwater LEGO base as a bipedal shark, which is my current sigfig. Usually, when I have dreams about being LEGO sized I am a regular minifig though. Those dreams are the best, I am always disappointed when I wake up and have to go back to living in our far less colorful world. When I was a kid I put myself into a variety of themes, whatever one I was interested in at the moment. I didn't make fine distinctions between castle and space and others, I used elements from all of them. When I played with my best friend we were usually in a Space/Star Wars/Sci-Fi world. If I had to choose a theme to live in now, I would probably go with Aquazone. It has always captured my imagination the most. But I also like to imagine all the themes existing alongside each other, so ideally I would hop between them. -
Darn, the Lost Tomb was sold out by the time I got there. No surprise, this is a fantastic set. I still picked up a few of these. It's (also) my birthday this Friday, so I figure I'm allowed to indulge some impulse spending.

To echo everyone else, congrats on your first commissioned MOC and nice new website. I think you did a really good job recreating the actual building, my favorite part is the sloped roof. I like the robots too. The dog is my favorite. Are the other two supposed to resemble Mario and Luigi, or is that just my imagination?

New products on Brickforge
fallentomato replied to Bonaparte's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
That is a Stickfa. We must not speak of them here. You may also be interested in the BrickFA technique. Back on topic, I just got my Brick Forge order in two days ago. These pieces are quite awesome as usual. I can post some pics if people want. -
B-V-9F I made these for my Green commercial, they were some of the last things I'd made, after I had used up the majority of my green parts and was scraping the bottom and had a bunch of pieces I thought I'd never be able to use. This piece is one of the most obnoxious pieces ever, these are alright, but I couldn't see how they would work in furniture, and due to a mistake on a bricklink order I had about 20 of these. I also have had way too many of these in green for quite a while now. However, somehow they all came together in a quite respectable looking couch. It's the magic of lego. The lamps use the green engine from Robin's sub. I just turned them so you can't see the square part and photoshopped away the remaintng corners.

I;ve been on a bit of a green kick recently and while I normally don't buy Bionicle I picked up Gresh and Tarduk last week and immediately harvested them for parts. I dredged up all my green Throwbot parts, pulled apart some of my Power Miner sets for the lime Technic pieces and then I even resorted to the turquoise parts from the Competition sub theme. I'm amazed how many green Technic/Bionicle pieces I was able to pull together. i guess it builds up over the years. Anyway, it didn't make it into the commercial I filmed this weekend, but I'm sure I'll find a use for it eventually. Hopefully this is up to your standards. Like I said, I've never done a Bionicle MOC before. (Be nice!)

Those lights are just pointed at the trans-neon-green from behind. Since I was just doing this lighting for the scene it was sort of cobbled together using SNOT bricks on the backside of the rocket. I'd like to actually build a model with lighting built-in at some point, but I'm not quite there yet. That's a very cool use of the crystal brick.

Made this for my latest animation. I started with the engine and was originally planning to build a radar array but the next thing I knew I was finding uses for all those Insectoid parts I had lying around (except those weird crystals, still don't know what to do with those ) Here it is in context: Hope you like it!

Great and not so great colours
fallentomato replied to 3.14 Toasts's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm surprised there hasn't been much discussion of the transparent colors. Trans-dark-blue might be my favorite color. I've also grown quite fond of trans-light blue, now that it's used for more than just windshields (trans-medium blue however I don't care too much for.) Trans-dark green is also one of my favorites. In the opaque colors I like the really bright vibrant colors like orange and purple and green. My least favorite colors that I own are probably sand red and sand blue. One color that I was disappointed in was turquoise. the color was fun, but the quality was pretty bad. It didn't click well and it felt funny. -
Green: A better Color for better building
fallentomato replied to fallentomato's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The reason I chose Green is that this is only a small part of a ~15 minute animation I'm hoping to finish in June (just in time for Brickworld ). In that larger context there is a war between Green and Orange happening and so they have a series of political-ad style commercials. I've got a great anti-Green commercial coming and some Orange ones in the works :skull: . Purple would be the next color I'd want to promote for sure, but I don't know that there's enough purple pieces to fill a commercial. Don't worry, I've got other plans for Purple. -

Hahaha, I've never seen the Fifth Element. Obviously I've been missing out. -
Green: A better Color for better building
fallentomato replied to fallentomato's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Excellent, phase one is complete. I've always wanted more pieces in green. I remember back in the 90s when green first started appearing as actual bricks (instead of just plants and baseplates. I was ecstatic, my first lego avatar was a green wizard with the green wizard hat from the XL Freestyle bucket. Now there are at least 6 different shades of green, but it's still not enough. It's never too late for creating! Why some of my best creations have been built entirely during hours I should have spent sleeping. -
After a crazy weekend I have completed a new animation. Go see it at ! Here are some stills from it to show of the different sets and creations I made for it. I may be posting some of these separately with more detailed shots in the next day of so, but right now I am too exhausted to take any more pictures. Hope you like it!

Best and Worst Minifig accessory
fallentomato replied to 3.14 Toasts's topic in General LEGO Discussion
What set is that coming in? One of the Power Miners? For those who said the old cape is the best, I'm curious what it is you like about it. I think it's fine, but I prefer the cloth capes. -

I'm a big fan of the camera and the bugle I don't particularly like the "batwing" or the rectangular "vest" -
New products on Brickforge
fallentomato replied to Bonaparte's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Some of you probably already saw this on the Brother's Brick, but brickforge just released a bunch of cool new items. I'm super excited about the microphones, I've been wanting a minifig microphone for years. My next animation is about a news show, so now my reporters will look professional. I just put together an order for a bunch of them and a crowbar and one of those tribal spears and a couple sorcerer's staffs... So much wonderful stuff. -
Well I think it's been well established that Green Grocer was one of the best and Mr. Freeze's buggy was one of the worst, so while those might have been my picks I will do some others. For best it's a toss up between Volcano Base and Town Plan , but I think I'll go with Town Plan because I intend to keep it together longer than volcano base. So of the 2008 sets I bought there aren't many bad ones. The Mr. Freeze one was definitely the worst, but second worst would have to be Dark Panther I only bought it for the purple parts and even in that respect it was disappointing.

Correct, they lights just attach to their feet. You can see the whole range of lifelites at their website. I got the elite PF series kit which is $50 and includes 8 LEDs, the control brick and 2 power cords (one to connect to a power functions control unit and one to connect to a 9v battery box, for those of us who haven't quite made the transition yet .)
-
I admire your bravery in admitting that. We all have our guilty pleasures. I was a big fan of the Throwbots.
-
Well the proper watering can is gigantic, so I had to make do with this. Also, the fig is supposed to be female, but I guess the hair is ambiguous.
-
The lights are tucked into the technic halfpin. So you can connect them to pieces in a number of ways. You have to run the wires through your model and connect them to the control unit and that to a battery box. They've got a number of different lighting schemes. Yeah, the kit comes with 8 lights, I put 2 each under the feet of the blue, dark green and red monsters and one each under the orange and neon green monsters and even then the neon green monster was still the brightest.
