  1. I dunno, a bush or topiary? These
  2. I bought a Galidor head because I wanted to prove that even those pieces could be put to good use. I also built this dragon/bird/thing while I was fooling around.
  3. So a month ago I posted this MOC, which was just sort of a one-off thing that I didn't plan on doing anything with. And then MacK had to go and suggest I make more creation in the "Tan Fantasy" theme. So this weekend I ended up building four more creations and thinking up a basic backstory for the theme. While it's clearly a knock-off of Nannan's excellent Balck Fantasy theme in name and color scheme principals, the designs are a little less horrific and organic. Instead of being vicious Lovecraftian monsters from another dimension I imagine the Tan Fantasy creations as ancient statues, the sentinels of a long abandoned planet, protecting its secrets until their masters return. Without further ado: The Steadfast Wobbler When movement means oblivion there is virtue in stillness. Blind Omniscience We can see darkness as it approaches, but once it is upon us what good are our eyes? And if it sneaks up from behind us, all we will see is all hope and light fading to a pinprick. The Hollow Man How do you contain an absence? Is it possible to bound emptiness, or will it consume everything? Cylindrical Angularity The world is a mass of contradictions. How can a series of lines create a circle? Hope you like them! (BTW the descriptions are just meant as a bit of fun, not as sincere philosophical quandaries )
  4. I got my first Lifelites kit this week and I couldn't think of a better subject than rock monsters to test it out with. This was a test for a MOC I'm planning for Brickworld. I think it turned out pretty well. You can see more pictures on my flickr.
  5. This is for an animation, it will only be seen from this angle. I wanted to cram as much green in as possible because it's for a commercial talking about how great green is (think political ad, but for a color instead of a politician.) What do you think?
  6. Aquazone! But something more along the lines of the Aquanauts/Aquasharks instead of the Aqua Raiders revival from 2007. There are lots of other factions they could do like Crustaceans or Octonauts.
  7. I voted no and yes. I don't buy any extra lego because of EB, all my purchasing is driven by my desire to collect the cool sets and to get parts for my main MOCs. However, in addition to the MOCs I'd be making anyway, there have definitel been a few MOCs I made only because of EB. A couple of them have been because of contests on the site, but also just last night I created four "Tan Fantasy" monsters just because MacK said I should make more. I'll be posting those in the next couple days.
  8. I met Hinckley at Brickworld last year.
  9. It's both actually. The 2x4s and 2x2s only come in metallic gold and those other parts only come in pearl gold. I think they are close enough that it works, but yes technically I used two different color there.
  10. B-M-1B I'm slowly building a whole city of single color microscale buildings. This weekend I focused on using some of the rarer colors. Hope you like them
  11. Interesting topic. I guess the trick is separating out the MOCs I'm currently building or planning to build from the one I could never possibly pull off. I don't limit myself to one theme and usually build spaceships as frequently as I do town buildings or castles and pirate ships (as well as things that defy classification). My ideal MOC would probably showcase that in someway, maybe it would be a place where all the themes came together, a spaceship crashing into a castle, firetrucks from the nearby town coming to help put out the fire, mean while a giant sea monster menaces the harbor and it fended off by pirates and the coast guard and attack fighters alike. And of course there'd be lights and motorized parts. That'd be pretty cool. Other gigantic MOCs that would be awesome would be Wonderland or Never-Never Land or Hyrule.
  12. Yeah, I see what you're suggesting. I don't think it's worth sacrificing the 1x2x3 slopes though. They work really well. I think I may just end up splashing on some yellow paint. That piece is perfect for what I want to do, the only problem is the color.
  13. I really like those big propellers. Woosh woosh woosh!
  14. Yeah, I was planning to make it all yellow. I know that's a little bland, but the aesthetic I'm going for in these buildings is simple and bold.
  15. So last night while I was watching SNL I started fooling around trying to make some microscale buildings for a cityscape I'm working on. The first one I did was small and unnoteworthy. The second one quickly got out of hand, and is clearly at an entirely different scale. However, I really liked it, so I had to keep going. I worked on it for a couple hours last night and then finished up this rough version this morning. This building is the TileVision Studios Tower in New Block City for an upcoming animation of mine. In order to get something that was more inline with the blue building. I scaled down this to what I'm calling a nanoscale version: Here's a size comparison: I've already placed bricklink orders to get most of those white parts in yellow but there's one thing that's being problematic. To smooth out the transitions between levels I've got these cheesy/SNOTty bits: Unfortunately this piece doesn't come in yellow. Does anyone have a suggestion of another way to accomplish this so I can make everything yellow? I don't want to resort to painting unless i absolutely have to. And of course, any other thoughts on the tower are welcome and appreciated.
  16. I just got my prize in the mail yesterday! Now I have one of every color so I can make a Rock Monster Rainbow.
  17. I was just trying to figure this out so I could give an accurate amount for insurance purposes. The problem is that my collection is older than me, and I only know for sure what went into it in the last 20 or so years. My older siblings kept a lot of their instruction booklets, so I used those to get a rough estimate, but I also acquired the collections of two of my best friend's families. So these Peeron numbers only include the sets I absolutely know are in my collection. 275 Sets (253 unique), 59,949 Parts, $5,479.85, 621 Minifigs - There were several set without listed prices there and after estimating for them it bring the total for these 275 sets to about $6,000. However, I know I have about 800 minifigs, so assuming the ratios of pieces to price to minifigs stays constant I'd estimate about 80,000 pieces and $8,000.
  18. Sorry for the confusion, I mentioned Divers at the end there and was saying that was a Town subtheme. I certainly didn't mean to imply that Aquazone was part of Town. Although in my world all the themes coexist simultaneously.
  19. Best 1) Aquazone - The original Aquanauts/Aquasharks subthemes are perfect and while I was initially opposed to the 2007 Aquaraiders, I got over that after buying a couple and soon I had nearly the whole line. The three subthemes in between were poorly designed, but I would love to see another return to the underwater world. And even though they are technically a city subtheme I'm just going to say that the Divers sets were also very awesome. 2) Agents - This theme sort of epitomizes the awesomeness of the current line-up. It's wildly creative, uses some great building techniques and is just generally fun. 3) Pirates - my first love Worst Galidor's too easy, it failed so quickly and so completely it's hardly worth mentioning. And as much as I am opposed to Bionicle for the low piece counts and high prices and its emphasis on collectibility over creativity and battling over building, I do appreciate that it sometimes gives us totally awesome pieces. I'm going to limit myself to system themes since that's what I collect. 1) Basketball sets - those spring loaded legs just make me gag. The soccer sets I didn't mind so much, didn't understand why anyone would want to buy them, but they didn't repulse me. 2) Dino attack - lego should not make realistic military sets, i don't care if they're in an apocolyptic future fighting mutant dinosaurs, an attack helicopter is still an attack helicopter 3) Time Cruisers / Time Twisters - wonderful concept - terrible execution, I bought several of the sets, but none of them stayed together very long
  20. 6 Red 4 Brown 3 Dark Blue 1 Grey I used 10 of them to make the "hull" of this ugly ship I made a few years back. It's supposed to look weird and cobbled together, so it made sense to use a bunch of tiny boat hulls. Along the same lines, some one could use them to mkae "the raft" from Snowcrash....
  21. I wish I could stop reading your mind, but it's like a good book, I just can't put it down. :Eyes go white like in Heroes: I see your MOC in your mind. It wants to be posted here. You should do as it wishes. Okay that's enough out of me.
  22. They are planning their attack, looking for the best places to pinch.
  23. Here's a picture I took of a bunch of them coming out of the LandingBot And here's a picture i took of them a while back when they were on my Star Destroyer. You can also see the Toymaster General holding up one of the mini pinchbots. Being next to those two Belville figs makes them look even tinier
  24. To all those who asked, feel free to steal/borrow/lend the idea. I wouldn't have posted it if I wanted to keep it to myself.
  25. I did like the effect of the grill pieces, but I didn't like that the headboard was a solid piece. I wanted to continue the alternating bands of open space, so that's why i switched to the rubber band approch. If there was some way to attach the grill pieces with nothing behind them, they might work, but I can't imagine what sort of connection that would take. Yeah, it fits in there very snugly, the handles of the handtruck are spaced with two stud of space in between them. this makes sense since that is the armspan of a minifig. I usually don't like to use this kind of non-snapping connection, but it seemed like the most elegant solution and it's very stable. You can put a minifig in the chair without worrying about it falling apart.
