The technicalities of English (irregular verbs, correct tenses, etc) do not seem to be taught in UK/Eire in the same way that other languages are taught. I still remember French and Latin lessons at secondary school when the teachers spoke about (for example) past and present participles. This meant nothing to me as this is not what we were taught about in English lessons. For a long time at school I thought that participles, irregular verbs, etc were just something that existed in foreign languages! I think these sort of things were mentioned in Gaelic lessons at primary school but was too young to pick up what they were... At least me grammars, spellings n stuff is all gud now innit? Cheers Rog

I have worked with many Indians in the past and they have so many languages and variations of languages that they (nearly) all just use English outside their families/close friends. English is certainly most used in business in India. I believe that Mandarin is the most spoken Chinese dialect. Sad to say that, although I did most of primary school in Ireland, I would struggle to string two Irish words together now and my accent got bullied out of me at English secondary school! Cheers Rog

Hi Obviously, we are all brought together by a common interest in Lego but I thought it might be interesting to find out what some of us do for a living in the times between shopping for Lego and building Lego and that, most importantly, also pays for all those lovely pieces and sets. I'll kick it off; I'm a coach driver driving all over the UK and Europe (that's motorcoach driver for those of you on the wrong side of the Atlantic! ). I use time when I am away on tour so scout different towns and countries for Lego (at my employers expense!) and some evenings in the hotels to see what's going on on the forums. Fave country for Lego has to be France because French hypermarkets give coach drivers 15 euros to spend on what they want and I always choose Lego! Free Lego is the best Lego! Cheers Rog

Beautiful ship - Shame she's gone - but at least we got to see her before she was scuttled! I hope that your scavenge for parts wasn't just because you found a seedier use for the well-endowed minifig from the stern! Cheers Rog

I really don't have any time for the Islanders. Although, I don't like any Pirate stuff except for the soliders so I was never going to like them anyway! I felt the same when they introduced the Forest sets into the original Castle theme. Cheers Rog

This seems a bit harsh? Anyway, when I build a Town/City (I'm doing one right now) I always include some Castle and Pirate features. I incorporate them by building them with the Castle sets right in the middle of the town creating an Old Town area and generally put the Pirate sets at the coastal edge of the town as the remnants of an historic dock area. I then add tourists and police minifigs (on guard) to the old buildings to integrate them. Some Pirate & Castle soldiers are usually on ceremonial guard duties too. The 6067 Town Inn makes a great pub for modern minifigs to hang out in!

I'd love to know if there is a way of decolouring white bricks (even just a bit...). I have tried searching on here but I can't find anything either!

Like this? £3.00 on LDD. Cheers Rog

Don't do it! Keep 'em yellow! Cheers Rog

I would suggest using the first head you showed for Trinity with female hair. It has no facial hair so could be female. You could then use the other head for Neo. Cheers Rog

I got 7733 today and definitely think I made the right choice. The detail on the forklift is great - A set in it's own right. Two great minifigs and some cool new pieces for me as an added bonus! Thanks for the tips guys Cheers Rog

Just cleared space to start putting together my 1980s(-ish) LEGO Town. Going to use as much as possible just stock late 1980s and early 1990s sets. There will also be a few 2005+ City sets too for a bit of variety. Mostly just Town sets but also a couple of Castle and Pirate to form and Old Town area. Due to space limitations looking at a plan of fifteen road plates as the size (5x3). Lots of vehicles and minifigs. Will also try and squueze in an out of town building site to incorporate some of the more recent larger construction models. Am going to take photos step by step of the Town as it grows. Cheers Rog

LMAO!!! Brilliant!! Hear hear!! Couldn't have put it better myself!! Cheers Rog -
Great thread! It was this for me: Got it in 1980-ish when I was 5 or 6 and I've still got it! Can't remember if it was birthday or Xmas or whatever but I remember opening it and building it. Great days! Cheers Rog

Oh dear. I have Lego and I dump tons of money into cars No hope for me then... With regards to friends opinions, it doesn't matter what you are interested in there will always be somone who likes to have a dig at you about it. This is human nature I'm afraid What you need to ascertain if it is a true friend who is just mickey-taking or whether it is truly nasty behaviour. A true friend you can have a conversation with and explain that they are upsetting you. Not a true friend and you can just stop knowing them. What you will find is that as you get older, people around you (friends, family, colleagues, etc) will all become more and more accepting of anything you are doing and that you will find issues such as these just disappear... Cheers Rog

We never had this set in Europe (welll in the UK at least!) which is a shame as it has some nice features. I also like the fact that you get two road plates with it. We had similar vehicles available separately though. Thanks for this review as it's great to see some sets that we don't otherwise get to see. Cheers Rog

Thanks for the tips guys and for pointing me to that review. I think that I'm going to go with 7733. I will let you know once I have done it (because I might change my mind again once I actually get to the shop!). Thanks also to whoever moved my ramblings to the correct topic! Cheers Rog

A nice little model with some neat features for it's age plus the all-yime classic fireman as a bonus. However, this design of chopper (the police station around the same time was the same design) I think dated very quickly. While is was good to use the hinged car roof - which was relatively new at the time - together with the inverted screen it was superceded very quickly by designs that stood the test of time far better (for example 6657). Also, I don't think I could everbuy a Lego fire helicopter because it is not something we have in the UK/Eire. Police, Coast Guard, Ambulance, military, etc, etc but no fire helicopters. Not something I would therefore want in my Lego Town. Great review though. Many thanks again for doing these. Cheers Rog

The Management (Wifey Bat) has given me £20 she made off flogging a phone on eBay and (of course) I'm going to send it on Lego. I was in Woolworth's this afternoon and saw 7733 Truck & Forklift for £19.99 and 7998 Classic Truck for £17.49. I stood there for ages looking at both boxes but could not decide which to get... Lots of good reasons for either of them but just couldn't make up my mind. 7998 is a much bigger box and is a bigger set but would have to be relagated to my building site with the other outsized vehicles. It is also discontinued so should I grab it whole I can? However, 7733 is a better City/Town scale and comes with a forklift and some cool accessories and a great looking minifig driver... Not an easy choice although I think I am leaning towards 7733 for the scalibility, accessories and extra minifig. Thoughts and opinions please before I go back to town tomorrow... Cheers Rog

A truly great set. I always loved the mobile crane and was gobsmacked when this popped up using some of the great features from the crane but also making it an emergency vehicle too! Great classic firemen and - in your version - a suspiciously blue fire extinguisher Great review of a great set - Just a pity I no longer have it... So many sets I used to have got lost during the period at the end of my childhood before I rescued what was left from my Dad's house once I realised what I had left behind!! Hindsight is a great thing?? Cheers again Rog

I have always loved this ship. When it first came out I was a little upset that the Pirates had a better ship than the navy - My brother and I had decided as soon as we saw the Pirates range in the catalogue that he would be the Pirates and I would be the Imperial Navy. I bought the Carribean Clipper in line with my agreement with my brother but when as it happens he couldn't afford the BSB so eventually, I bought the BSB myself and did some flag and crew swapping ending up with a navy version of the ship I wanted all along! Sadly I don't have either the Clipper or the BSB anymore (lost in the mists of moving house long ago) but think I might have to have a look on eBay for a BSB now....... Great memories. Thanks for the review. Cheers Rog

This is a great set and a great review - Thanks for doing these! I remember my brother getting this set (I got the police station 6384 on the same day). Truly classic sets - It's a shame that I don't have them anymore although I do have the two immediate descendants of the sets... Cheers Rog
