Some more reminiscing as I put in my final votes: Some really superb writing by CMP. I remember not feeling very proud of the Baltarok Saga when it was happening, but looking back at it I think that is both comprehensible and politically complex. I think it did a really good job of a skewing heroes and villains and that no character in it was really "wrong" so much as "misguided". I can't find a single character in the conflict who's views I really disagree with.

Heroica RPG - Quest #136: The Sorcerer's Stone
Zepher replied to Purpearljellyblob's topic in The Heroica Archive
Bobby nods to Kiray. "It's effed, yo. All these debates, over and over again too. Like, we get it at this point." He rolls his eyes. "We just gotta focus on what's going down. Like, get back Polly and Bain's love, then grab that brown nekrastone like we can't kill a forest, no duh, and then we gotta figure out the blue nekrastone. I really think we should just take it home, to be real. Like, keep the balance - the Star Elves get one, and the Fenerians one, and the forest one, and then those downstairs monster dudes get one, but like, a prison isn't the right place to say all that and fight about it, you dig?" -
I encourage, in these final hours, everyone to vote who hasn't! It's important to honor those who contribute to the game, and what's more - if you vote, people will know what the community enjoys! And QMs can (and will!) know what to do more or less of!

OoC: No, actually, I'm equally bad at this as I've always been. The description says what you just said, I'll fix the round.

Heroica RPG - Quest #139: Around the World (West)
Zepher replied to Zepher's topic in The Heroica Archive
OoC: Daneeka is with you. The heroes spend the night in three separate bedrooms, each adorned with only a bed. The next morning they are greeted outside the Manor by Doc Daneeka and a horse and carriage. "Come heroes," says Daneeka. "We must depart. Matthias, if you would load the anvil, that would be ideal. We will be setting out today for the north and the west. The best and safest way to cross into Baltarok is the newly constructed Augustus Bridge. Someone take the reigns, I cannot drive."- 603 replies

Heroica RPG - Quest #136: The Sorcerer's Stone
Zepher replied to Purpearljellyblob's topic in The Heroica Archive
OoC: I'd really like the Vest of Faded Trials... but for Boomingham. I feel a little skeevy about that, though - if anyone would prefer they get it in their loot, I'd happily pay them for it from Boomingham. And if anyone in the quest has their heart absolutely set on it, that's okay too - it should go to someone here over someone outside the quest. Bobby watches the loot intently, but doesn't really have a preference as to what he gets. "Yo, this is kind of effed at this point. I think those elves were making some pretty good points. But like, it's too late. We gotta grab what's his face, and Polly." Bobby looks at Miderun earnestly. "Don't forget to save Polly." -
Boomingham grumbles. "The hit would be enough to prove it," he says confidently. "But let's go. I was hoping to get some additional help."

To what?? I can't even remember that far back. Let me check my ballot and make sure I'm not lying.

139 - deeply sorry, have had lots of short breaks of time but not an hour yet to run the battle. Will try to get to it this evening before I fall asleep.

Obsession happens in real life! I like it! If Lind wants to think of it as love, that will make it all the more real. I voting for it as my favorite stand-alone quest. As far as fun I've had at this RPG, that still takes the cake I think.
-
I'd vote for Quintessa for most original if we didn't already have some ex-royalty in the hall. Most optimized is really tough for me. Guts, Hoke, or even Arthur would all be good bets. I don't know, though. Atramor as well? Sarge? Maybe even Hybros. I think Dragoon and Marauder are both just superb classes.

Boomingham exhales, and speaks rapidly. "Go to the Lodestar Inn. Tell the Black Scorpion there will be a threat against his life tonight, and that he must, and I repeat must, return to the palace immediately. Tell him I have uncovered all the scandal he asked me to uncover. I will attempt to meet you as swiftly as possible, with help." Boomingham laid a hand on Rex's shoulder. "Above all else, remain safe, my friend." Boomingham prayed like he never had before that Rex would get there in time or that the Scorpion Knight, if ambushed, would find a way to defend himself. But no time for that. With no one in his way, Boomingham took a swift 180 turn and marched right on into the Palace.

Like how the builds look. As in the physical minifigs. Also, re-reading 88 preparing for a few upcoming quests, and I always forget how reasonable Mint actually is. In the outline he was supposed to be a villain, but when I actually wrote his reasoning I found he wasn't all that bad of a dude... his argument about politics is exceedingly sound, more so than Hamilton's, who was the "good guy". Sorry, not totally sure how that relates, figured we might as well keep reminiscing in one place.

Yeah, Hobgoblin general was pretty great. And yeah, there's a lot of characters I'm not totally sure about as far as if they're a villain or not. A lot of my own personal favorite villains have served as a friendly and enemy NPC. XX and Avery from myself, and then the Crimson Crown is doing it right now. The entirety of both sides from the Augustus Bridge Battle were sort of friendlies at some point. And yeah, I was considering voting for the Cold Circles, because I really like them! But they don't really count, I guess. I was thinking of Melville, but I didn't really get much from him personally. Maybe that Seagull. Maybe McCafferey.
-
Not this battle, but the previous one, you rolled special damage "an extra member joins the mob" which I read as "Hoke gets a soldier under his command" with mirror sentinel. If you had rolled it again, more people would have joined your mob.
-
Yeah, but he was a villain in 28. So I can't vote for him. And I know it doesn't have to be a big bad. I was just agreeing we haven't had a big recurring villain for a while. And even then, I'm hard pressed to think of an NPC who had a long enough time to develop a personality. Generally if we fight them, their only personality is right before the fight where they say they're going to fight us. What are some of your suggestions, Scuba? I can't really think of any, to be honest, but I'll be doing a final re-read of a few quests tomorrow before voting finally. Even skimming some quests I have trouble remembering NPCs to like. I guess some options for me: the Spider from the Walk through the Parlor, the Dollhouse Zeigfrieds, The Aliens from Sheep Snatchers, the Tale of Two Faces "villain" (though I don't really count that). Someone from the Tower of Babel, but I can't tell who the villainous NPCs in that one were. Oh, maybe the Fearsome Four from that. I did really like them. As for discussing myself as a QM, I feel like I've taken myself out of this category, since I don't think anyone knows who the villainous characters are in my quests. Maybe M of Manyfaces. I liked him.
-
Agreed, that's why I'm having trouble with it. When's the most recent time we've had someone be a villain for more than one quest, really? Especially since Wren. I can think of Baba, I guess, and The Regret too. But one's gone, and one hasn't really served as an antagonist so much as a mysterious force.
-
I actually have that for another category, I think. But it's def a really good one. What are some other twists? Karie joining the Syndicate was one that I was thinking of. I guess some of the brutality of the Baltarok quests could be cool too. Some of the stuff in Pie's quest was really brutal.
-
Maybe we should discuss other one of the "moment" options, since they're harder to define. Like, these are all very specific events - I don't know how any of them would get more than one vote unless they were brought to everyone's attention and then we all voted for one.
-
That's what I like about Mirror Sentinel - really brings that back into play, but for the whole party. Hoke started to summon an army in 139.
-
Both fantastic moments I had totally forgotten about. That Guts line... classic Guts. I love Scuba's ability to occasionally point out some of the goofiness in the game without totally shattering the fourth wall.
-
Oh, I was being serious, does anyone have any ideas? I think discussion would make this final day pretty helpful for me, and might allow more people to vote.
