ASK HERE How to clean your LEGO sets/parts?
moschino replied to jngunsw's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I heard about this technique of cleaning ABS plastic for any purposes, but as far as I know, this technique is too new to know the reactions of ABS during the time. So far, from pictures the result seemed to be amazing, but is the restored white the same as the original white of Lego bricks? I intend to use this technique on a 2 x 4 brick and wait a couple of years to see the reaction of ABS. I don't want to use this on Imperial Armada Hulls, then after few years to search for replacing them. If you found any info that this method does not affect the structure of the plastic, please leave a link. Are smokers cursed or what? Surprisingly, 75% of the smoking collectors I know take care of their bricks much more than non-smoking collectors just because they are afraid to not get yellowed, etc. and the result is that they have a very clean and well preserved Lego. But in the same way, 50% of the non-smoking collectors let their bricks to get dusted up to 2-3mm, and they don't even bother to not keep the bricks under UV rays, and this is just because they think there's nothing that can affect their Lego as long as there's no nicotine to yellow the bricks. So far this is a disturbing appearance of how Lego is preserved. Right now I have 2 sets under cleaning process and so far, the most optimal option to wash Lego is to let it in a plastic basin full of water and with some washing powder inside of it. Shake your hands until it makes some bubbles, and let it there for about 12 hours. Just make sure the water is at a temperature between 30-45 Celsius, at least when you put the washing powder so it can be easily dissolved. After 8-16 hours, throw the dirty water, add some new clean water and add the washing powder again. Repeat the process until you consider your bricks cleaned enough in order to satisfy you. On some particular bricks, it may be needed to use a tooth brush, but this doesn't need to pick up piece by piece as I suppose the Lego wasn't left outside in the garden for 20 years. This way you can wash any Lego Bricks including Sails, but of course excepting the ones that has stickers on them. You also can replace the washing powder with liquid soap, shower gel, etc. The whole process it may require 1-5 days, depends of how dirty they are and depends of your preference of result, but I think this is the best option so far because when you have to wash 2-10kg of Lego, if you mind to wash them piece by piece, you might go crazy after a couple of hours. -

Toy plastic "Encapsulation" Services.... a Rip-Off....
moschino replied to LEGO Historian's topic in General LEGO Discussion
LEGO Historian, I like all your topics and this is not an exception. I completely agree with you. I hope my language will not be considered very offensive, but I must be completely idiot to pay $5.500.000 for this: -
As I said, Lego was supposed to be a toy where you get not many elements, but by using your imagination, you create various scenes of whatever you'd want. If you go back to late 80's or early 90's, you'll notice that a particular brick was used for lots of purposes. From 2000 they start to create more and more new moulds for almost each thing, so now it's not needed to use your imagination to create something, because that thing already has its own piece. Let's say I'm fine with most or with some of the new moulds, but having different moulds for the same purpose, this is a deviation from what Lego was meant to be. If I would accept to mix old pistols with new pistols in the same scene, then I should also accept to mix Lego System Minifugre with Lego Friends Minifigure, Lego Belvile Minifigure, Lego Scala Minifigure and Lego Technic Minifigure, then play with all of them together and use all of them in the same scenes. Have you tried to put in the same scene the old fire (trans-orange), new fire (trans-yellow), old minifigs (yellow), new minifigs (fleshy), old horse & new horse all together? The result is a cheap mix of colors and it's getting close to a kitsch. I pointed this out in a different thread... In 80's a set had about 8-12 colors, and in 2009 a set had about 25-30 colors. If you study the art of visual of all kind you'll notice that too much variety of colors affects the impact of the image. That's why a House, a Sculpture, a Car, etc... are not painted in tons of colors and they are kept simple in few-several colors. I personally don't even mix bluish grey with light grey or reddish brown with old brown. The same method is applied to moulds too.

It has a western spirit and I like that. Very nice dialogue and the whole scenario is very offensive for Redcoats. Bravely done! -

Guys, of course we are all friends, as long as we all share the same passion to Lego Pirates + Affiliates, no matter if you're a bluecoat, a redcoat, a spanish, a pirate or an islander. But on the other side, we can't sabotage the tournament by giving hugs to each other, so until that... the whole spirit amuse me and I believe (hope) that none of my messages were found offensive. I think the tournament was started, isn't it? Fewer words and more images might solve the current misinterpretation of our needs into express ourselves. -
You should have no doubts about the later "planning where he's going after lunch". If you read the dialogue more carefully... Would you really think that someone will take look on the menu when he already knows that he wants a simple glass of water. When I'm at a restaurant and I know I want a glass of water, I don't even open the menu. Now you can be sure that the "map" is indeed a map, and yes, he was searching on it regarding the fight against Redcoats. Also be sure he didn't try to create a plan of how to attack. He only tried to see the paths for where the redcoats will flee, so he'll know where to place the spikes for traps.

I definitely agree! I wish people will keep their insults against each other only if they're completely related to Lego, so at the end we can all laugh about a redcoat or a bluecoat, but all deviations will have no sense. I'm pretty amazed you put such questions where the answer is so obvious... When someone wins a prize (he is gone). As long as you won, you have no reason to come back. People needs to remind about you in full glory, as a winner. As long as Bluecoats won, why would come back? To crush their enemies again? There's no need to add more and more drama to their humiliation. Of course Eldorado Fortress is no match for Imperial Flagship. This is obvious... but why should be? Redcoats are so novice in everything they've done as they hired a Bluecoat soldier in order to learn them how not fail so badly. I really doubt that this guy... will do much with the Redcoats as long as they always miss their targets and they always confuse the gunpowder with flour, then they wonder "why Bluecoats cannons always shoot, and ours always doesn't". However, be sure that as long as Imperial Flagship is commanded by a Bluecoat, he will never lead the cannons against Eldorado Fortress. Even I doubt he'll succeed into learn Redcoats how to use a cannon... considering he will... he does all this only in order to have a more competitive enemy. Remember that during the past 20 years, Bluecoats only fought against seagulls because Redcoats were always hiding behind bushes, so it wasn't needed more than a clipper. You know... it's not too late to say a thanks to all Bluecoats for sending the minifig posted above in order to learn Redcoats how to become decent on the battlefield. -

Well, have a great lunch my friend. But regarding what Capt. Stabbin said, don't cram yourself too much as you might become slow on the battlefield. Or maybe your plan is to use all those food to bait the redcoats into bluecoats traps? Considering the redcoats are all starved to death, they will blindly follow the smell of shaorma even to the front of the bluecoats cannons.

At the end of the title of every listing, there's written "Compatible with Lego" which automatically means that this is not original Lego, but only compatible. If it would be Lego, it wouldn't be necessarily to write "Compatible with Lego". However, these situations makes me extremely angry. Not only once I've got myself spammed by such scammers. I actually never got trapped in this, because I always read carefully each description and always talk with the seller carefully before to buy something on internet, but it's extremely frustrating when you search something by using the keyword "Lego", and between results you also get such cheap imitations just because they also include the keyword "Lego". I'm not against all these, but my only objection is that such listings should not include the word "Lego".

I 100% agree with everything you said there. I'm surprised to find someone who thinks so similar with me and I feel extremely good to see I'm not alone in this cause. You know... sometimes I feel like there's something wrong with me. Well, to follow the main topic of this thread, I'm 99% sure I'll get some of Lone Ranger sets because I expect the series to have some very nice pieces, just as POTC. Regarding POTC, I bought Queen Anne's Revenge for some particular pieces such as "new hull", "Angelica's Hair", "Jack Sparrow's hair", "Blackbeard's Hair", etc... but that's all. The POTC Series is far worse than LEGOLAND Pirates Theme, so I absolutely had no reason into buy many more sets there. Back to Lone Ranger Series, I'll probably get the set which includes the most wonderful pieces included in this Series, then I will start to sell the whole " " such as new horses, new pistols, and of course the FLESHIES. I won't even mind how many money I'll get in change. I just don't have enough space to stock such Lego pieces. About Lone Ranger, I would say a YES as long as you keep the " " and you throw out the " ". But of course, I still think that the best result would be if people refuse to buy such sets who copies other franchises, so at the end, they might wake up from this "out of imagination" chapter, and start to create something which is indeed original. If Lego wouldn't understimate our imagination and creativity, why would we need a character created by Fran Striker in 1933? Maybe Lego needs 200.000 letters where the fans tell them that we can create our own universe where we play with and we don't need Disney, Marvel, DC to tell us how to play with Lego.

Hello, I'm searching for this set since 2008. I have to admit that I didn't search for it every day since 2008 until now, but I used to search at least 1-2 times per month during all these years. Most of the time I search for it on eBay, I don't find it at all. Sometimes, when there finally appears something in result, everytime this set is on sale by someone located in US. Today I finally got a bit angry about the same result and I tried to give it a go on Bricklink. Obviously almost all sellers are from US, and amazing, there are two sellers located in Europe, one of them being situated in Hungary and the other one in Germany. The saddest part is that I don't have many option to chose from. I'd like to have the option to chose who has the cheapest shipping costs, or who has the set in a better condition than other, but this way seems to be extremely simple. I get the only search result, or I simply say "skip", and when we talk about this set, the "skip" may go for years. If someone can give me some elaborate details about this mysterious set, they will be welcome. Otherwise I'll be satisfied with the answer for the following question. Has this set been released only in US?
-
Yes, sure... I actually keep my first two minifigs completely separated in their own plastic bag even if they are in junk condition. I don't mind to use them anywhere, but even if they're in poor condition, they mean to me alot because they were the first. Most of my sets I've got in my childhood can not be reproduced because some pieces were lost, some pieces were broken, some pieces became in bad condition, and some pieces were gave in exchange for others. When I was child, we used to exchange pieces between each other, for example I gave a cannon in change for a ghost. This was because I had two cannons in stock but I had no ghosts and the ghost was what I wanted at that time. Even if some remaining pieces are still in good condition, the set can not be built more than 30%, so... I bought a lot of used sets as for many times I found extremely good deals on eBay and for many times the sets were in extremely good condition. I do mix those with any pieces that were released in the same period of time or if they come from the same mold. The same answer as above. _______________________________________________________ During the time, Lego changed their molds and they kept the same overall size of the particular piece, but there are small diferences in their texture and sometimes even color. If I decide to start building a model or if I simply want to reproduce a released model, if I start to use pieces from 80's, I won't mix them with pieces from 2010. In 80's, the slope 2x1 was like this: Later, the mold for the same slope was modified and the inside of the piece was changed. (I didn't find a picture for the new slope but you have that slope in your inventory and you can check) Also the texture on it was changed and the mini-craters became smaller. When you touch the old slope you'll feel it sharp, comparing the new slope which is more softer. I do not mix those two particular bricks and I do not mix bricks who suffered changes within the time. I find some changes necessarily, but many changes I find them useless and I blame Lego for what is doing. Today has been posted a preview for the new series "Lone Ranger" and I just noticed there is a new mold for pistols. This way I can't mix Lone Ranger with Western 1996 at all, so I'll have three options. 1-I keep them completely separated in completely different scenes. 2-I go for the new pistol, and I sell all old pistols. (maybe keep one in the memory of the first Lego pistol) 3-I go for the old pistol, and I sell all new pistols. (maybe keep one in the memory of the 2013 Lego Pistol) At the begining Lego was supposed to be a toy where you get a little, but using your imagination you can build alot. Seems that Lego is turning into something where we get alot, but using our imagination we can build a little. If pieces becomes so dedicated to a particular purpose, our imagination becomes pretty useless in some cases.

For this Christmas I'd want Lego 4184 Black Pearl. Last Christmas (in 2011), I made it in Paris and I visited two Lego Shops to search for Black Pearl but they didn't have it yet. Wanting this set so badly at that time (just after I acquired 4195), I was also at Disney Store on Champs Elysee knowing they used to have all Lego Sets who represents a Disney Franchise. I wasn't lucky, so I didn't got it. Later I saw 4184 for many times in different shops but I didn't have money for it as some other Lego sets got a bigger priority. Now Black Pearl is again in the top of my priority list.

Very true, but when this is a passion for more than a decade, it's worth even if you don't earn your living from it. Behind appearances, when you love something, you tend to refuse to sell yourself for a number of coins. Having a photographic studio, you can easily make money by making ID photos, but when you love photography you won't use your photo camera in such purposes because you'll feel guilty inside of your soul. Of course, you can make money by doing photography at a high level, but in the world we live it's not that easy to reach the top of the pyramid. The competition is fierce and the promotions are not always made fairly. My main job is in Digital Design of all kind excepting flash animations. _______________________________________________________ I'm happy to see people enjoying BSB's Wallpapers as I'm happy to see Classic-Pirates fans still interested in this wonderful series of Lego- 17 replies

moschino replied to moschino's topic in LEGO Pirates
No and no... me, among two other friends we've got our own photo studio. Photography is not our main job, but from time to time is more than a hobby. I have big wishes regarding Lego and professional photography, but unfortunately there are lots of obstacles I have to pass. I have in mind to attempt into make some scenes such as: or this: Firstly I need a space to dedicate it for this because I'm not going to sacrifice my living room for a week, then destruct such magnificent scenes. Then I need to find a method how to create the water and the ground. This is what I'm currently researching and I try to focus on the ground used on exhibits in museums. It may take one year, maybe even more... but nothing is too much as long as you do it with pleasure.- 17 replies

I used a professional photo studio to catch the box of Black Seas Barracuda. Fortunately the box is still in good conditions, so I could do it. Then I digitally edited the image to correct the potential barrel/pincushion distorsion. I think this is the best we can get unless Lego Group will use a professional scanner to scan the original photographic film made in 1988-1989. However, I doub't they'll bother to do it... I would do the same for 6286 (Skull's Eye Schooner / The Black Skull), but unfortunately I don't have the box and I don't even find it on eBay or Bricklink. I may get the box among the set itself, but considering I already have the ship, I don't really mind to pay $200-300 to get another SES with the Box. Maybe if I pay enough attention, I'll catch the box (only) during the next year.- 17 replies

Which LEGO Pirate captain is your favorite?
moschino replied to Captain Roger's topic in LEGO Pirates
As far as I know, this version of Ironhook is from Renegade Runner (6268) and Raft Raiders (6261). I don't have any of these sets, so it's not much I can say about them. I have Enchanted Island (6278) and Forbidden Cove (6264), and there Captain Ironhook has the same head with Captain Roger. So, there are two different captains because they have different faces and some of them has a pegleg? Since I never had 6268 or 6261, me too I never noticed that there's an Ironhook with a different face than Captain Roger. -

Hello Classic Pirates fans, and especially Black Seas Barracuda or Dark Shark fans, For many times I wanted to look at this magnificent set on my monitor, and I always wanted to see it hi-res. Considering this is the only available image with the official display of this set: I think we definitely need an update. When this image was initially scanned, it was good, because at that time could fit our screen width, but in 2012 (2013 coming soon), it's hard to look at a picture with a resolution of only 690x485 pixels. Yesterday I finished working on this, and I succeeded into make this picture at much higher resolutions up to monitors with a width of 2560. Here is a list of images and wallpapers with this set for all aspect ratios, 4:3, 5:4, 16:9 and 16:10. Click on it, and you will be redirected to the image. 4:3 - 1024 x 768 4:3 - 1600 x 1200 5:4 - 1280 x 1024 16:9 - 1365 x 768 16:9 - 1920 x 1080 16:9 - 2560 x 1440 16:10 - 1280 x 800 16:10 - 1440 x 900 16:10 - 1680 x 1050 16:10 - 1920 x 1200 16:10 - 2560 x 1600 Enjoy!

It shouldn't... Related to Lego, a representation of the Third Crusade should suppose english and french fortifications, trebuchets, catapults, sultans, assasins, fire-balistas, and some arabian architecture. It should be great to see those in a Lego scene.
