  1. I want to remind everyone that the mechanics of the Decamon Tournament were changed so that you can only buy one hand of five cards. Another reminder: we need more quests! Don't let the fancy cards distract you from the actual game.
  2. "Yes, Guru Hei-Ha-Chi is one of the more agreeable people that frequent the House of the Blue Hand. I have never spoken with Ambassador Ootaru myself, but I am aware of the blight of his people. The wereturtles - or the Kappa, as they call themselves here - are gentle people, seeing them suffer because the government needs more ethereal energy is hearbreaking." "Indeed, we Aoi were not as hated in the past as we are nowadays. The Council used to treat all the people of Xu fairly, for the most part." Shanxian sighs deeply. "Poor Vincent... He knows what he has started, but there is no turning back time - only mending that which can be mended." "That is good to know. The Ringfinger, like I told you, runs the foreign matters for the Council, which puts him in direct odds with the Middlefinger, who is zealously nationalistic. I know the Thumb through my husband, for they served in the army at the same time. And the Forefinger has been in close cooperation with the Tritech Corporation, since her own ministry is the one building the Ethereal Windmills and Waterpumps. Vincent has had part in designing those, as well. It is only natural that she and the Thumb have formed an alliance. But will they side with the Ringfinger or the Middlefinger, that is the question. Also, it remains to be seen what part the Littlefinger plays in this. Internal dissent among the Council is good, yes..." At that moment, Captain Raijin approached the party. "The Council is ready to see you now, Ambassador Ji Pei. Your companions are allowed to enter the chambers with you, but they must leave all their weapons at the door." The guards stripped Arthur, Atramor and Skrall of their arms, but both Miirym and McCafferey were deemed acceptable to take in - the first because dragons were deeply respected in Xu, the latter because what bad could a chicken do? Lady Shanxian and the three heroes then entered the Council Chambers. It was a blue-lit hall with a wide, elevated desk at the other end, in front of a huge carving of a blue hand. Behind the desk sat five figures wearing strange mask-like helmets that covered their faces. "Bow in front of the Council of the Blue Hand!" Captain Raijin shouted, then turned to the counsellors. "Presenting Lady Shanxian Ji Pei, Ambassador of Xu at the Free Islands of the Crystalline Sea." "The Council greets you, Ambassador Ji Pei, and hopes your voyage back to the homeland was pleasant." The Middlefinger sounded old, even by Aoi standards. "It was, counsellors. I wish to thank you for honoring me with an invitation to come see you. It feels good to be back home." "Let's see how you feel in a moment...", the Littlefinger sneered, making the Ringfinger cough. "Can we cut to the chase? As you might have guessed, we did not call you for a pleasure trip. The Council is concerned of your ability to perform your duties, Lady Ji Pei." "May I inquire what exactly concerns you in my performance, Counsellors?" "Have you looked in the mirror lately, Ambassador?" The Littlefinger snickered. "There is no need to be cruel, Littlefinger", said the Forefinger in a soft, velvety voice. "But it is true that the terrible accident that befall you is disconcerting, Lady Ji Pei. We do not want you to strain yourself beyond your capabilities." "Nonsense! She does not need her legs to represent the interests of Xu. What I'm more worried about is if she truly has the best of Xu in her mind." "Yes, the Thumb informed the rest of us about your son's involvement with the revolutionary group calling themselves the 108 Stars of Destiny last year. It was a most unfortunate incident. The decimation of the Tao Warriors was a great loss to our national heritage." "But the culprits behind it were executed in the end by my orders. My son Jun was merely their captive." "Ha! By your orders, exactly!" "At what point were you going to inform the Council of the threat that the Stars posed?" "Surely you must have had a perfectly good reason to act behind our backs, Lady Shanxian." The Forefinger's sweet voice had a dangerous undertone. "We would very much like to hear that reason, Ambassador." "Please, you have to understand that I was concerned about the well-being of my son. He..." "But wait! It seems we have an eye-witness present! That man with the wide-brimmed hat and a chicken, he was there at the Chaochao Falls last year with Jun Ji Pei." The Thumb pointed at Atramor, and all eyes suddenly turned on him. "You have permission to step in front of the Council and speak", the Middlefinger said to Atramor. "Tell us about the events concerning the 108 Stars of Destiny, with special focus on Jun Ji Pei's involvement in it." Captain Raijin motioned Atramor to step to Shanxian's side. "Introduce yourself before the Council, foreigner." "Be very careful what you answer", Shanxian whispered. What would Atramor answer to the Middlefinger's inquiry?
  3. Yes, you have free control over your own character.
  4. Hell should I know. Ask Brickdoctor, he made the class.
  5. "I know, right! Hurts like a bitch, tehehe!" "We serve some wicked-good rum here, if I can recommend something. I'll bring you the menus right away." Annienal watched as the captain laughed and drank with two men who must've been members of his crew. Suddenly the door of the tavern was slammed open. The newcomers made the entire room fall silent in almost an instant. It was the Ji Pei. "Captain Hooks Caldera!" shouted the young Aoi man with red glasses, pointing at the captain. "We have evidence that it was you who orchestrated the attempt on my mother's life! What do you have to say for yourself?" "Better be damn quick about it." Captain Hooks glanced at his men, who were already holding the handles of their swords. The tension was enough to lift the roof off. Would the party intervene or observe?
  6. They act like Hunter's favoring, meaning the whole damage is tripled against the mentioned types. Likewise, the weapons do no damage at all to the other types mentioned. And no, these are not elemental weapons, so they do not contain gems.
  7. Exactly as MDM said. You need more luck to win if you only have Level 1 cards, but it isn't impossible. The NPC opponents will be randomly selected to each player, and after that it's a matter of advancing the "brackets":
  8. ~Note: This event is open to all players of Heroica RPG, no matter if you are on a quest currently or not. Please post in-character to this topic. If you have questions, please ask them at the General Discussion topic.~ All you had to do was answer "yes" to the strange letter that popped into your hands, asking whether or not you wanted to participate in a grand tournament of Decamon, the hit card game that was suddenly being played around all the nations surrounding the Crystalline Sea. Now you were here in a strange crowd, in a blink of an eye. You look around, and see some familiar faces among the gathering. You have been teleported into a castle where almost everything you see is green. Even the man sitting on the balcony above you is wearing green clothes and a green crown. The man then speaks. "Welcome to the Emerald Palace, where the first-ever Decamon Tournament is about to take place. As some of you may know, I am Roland Emeraldo, and I will be your gamehost this evening. Well, technically we are currently outside the normal timeline, so we can play for as long as we like, and when the event ends, you will be transported back to the very same moment you left from. This is thanks to my good friend, Elphaba the Witch. Give her a round of applause, everyone!" You turn your head and see the green-faced witch standing on another balcony. "Oh, Roland, don't try to sweet-talk me into making this a friend's favor. We settled for a price, and you're going to pay or I will just leave you in this timeloop for the rest of your life." "Ahem, right... Well, thank you anyway, Elphaba. Now, you might find yourself asking exactly what will happen tonight. Before we begin the games, you should familiarize yourself with the rules of Decamon. You also need a hand of cards to play with, which you can conveniently buy from the Receptionist, who will also write down your name to confirm your participation to the Tournament." The dummy in the corner springs to life and waves. "At. Your. Service." "After the event is over - and no sooner, mind you - you can also ask the Receptionist to exchange cards for prizes. This tournament isn't just for fun, you see, for the better cards you win and collect, the better prizes you will earn by the end of it. And if you manage to beat everyone in your Cup, I will personally train you into the profession of a Decamon Drafter. Yes, the Tournament itself will be played in Cups, the number of which depends on how many of you are. You will be pitted against another contestant, and the winner will move on while the loser is dropped out. This process will be repeated until there is only one player left in a Cup, and that person will win the main prize. Those victors will then be pitted against one of the formidable Decamon Champions at the Championship Cup. Chances are none of you will be able to beat every existing champion, but that's the whole thrill of it, isn't it? Now, go get yourselves prepared, everyone! I will announce once everything is ready for the Tournament to start. Enjoy yourselves!" You watch as everyone flocks to the Receptionist, before you realize you should get in line as well. You are not entirely sure what you have gotten yourself into, but you know it will be worth a shot, nevertheless. RECEPTION: BUY A HAND OF CARDS (Available only before the event!) You can only buy one hand of cards, so choose wisely what you will buy: Beginner's Hand (5 gold): a set of five Level 1 cards of random types. 9. I'm not going to delay the event, but if things go well (from here on out), this could become an annual event. So you will have time to compete with a better collection in the future. I have now made my decisions: the players will only be able to buy one hand from the event, and they will have to gather more cards by winning matches (of course those few with pre-existing cards can use them as well). That eliminates the need for separate moderators, because I know I won't cheat, and people won't have that many cards to cheat with. I will make more different types of hands to buy, to allow people to spend more gold to ensure they get better cards. Access to the Decamon Drafter job class will be awarded to all players who reach the Championship Cup, and the winner of the Championship Cup will get the chance to match with the Emerald Emperor for a chance to take the sole Level 10 card in the Tournament, which he or she can then keep or trade for a "Mystery Prize". I hope everyone will be happy with this solution. It will simplify matters a whole lot, which is good since this is the very first event of it's type, and I'm unsure how it will affect the game in the long run.
  10. "You can do this without me flailing my staff around, it seems." Ellaria keeps to the rear and casts a spell from the Scroll of Weakening at the Golem Rouge. Battle Order: Ellaria Thormanil Docken Hybros Hybros
  11. Alright, currently the Decamon Tournament has several issues: 1) People are worried about cheating, and thus separate "Cup Moderators" should be appointed. (So far, Chromeknight, WBD and Flare have volunteered.) 2) People are buying too many cards to keep check with. This also tilts the Tournament to their favour. 3) Exchanging cards into prizes can be exploited to farm gold. Meaning the price of the cards may be too low. 4) The Decamon Drafter class might need balancing because of people having so many cards. Also, people aren't settling for the fact that only the winner could get it. Due to these issues, I will have to restart the event tonight. Everyone can just take their money back and pretend that the current topic never happened.
  12. Ah, sorry. I should've worded it more clearly. The difference between physical and magical attacks really only concerns the blinded-, sealed- and immune to [physical/magical attacks]-effects. Both Mystic Knight's Spellblade Spin and Chi Monk's Martial Hits do take row into account, they are not ranged. And Spellblade Spin also takes weapon effects into account, since it is weapon-based and not a "fireball" you shoot at enemies (Martial Hits would, too, but there's no weapons involved).
  13. If I introduce a cap, the event will most likely have to be restarted from the beginning, so all the purchases made thus far would be nulled. Right now I'm thinking about adding a cap to the amount of cards that can be bought from the event - making a cap to the amount of cards that one can carry isn't a logical choice (since you can win more by winning matches). What do you guys think? I'm sorry for the hassle, I just don't want this event to become too much for me to handle.
  14. Mariel took the heroes to the sole available table. Despite the distance, they had an undisturbed line-of-sight to Hooks' table from there, so they could easily observe him. "Oh, Hooks is a true regular. He comes almost every evening that he's on shore. He doesn't have any family other than his crew, so I figure his house is a pretty empty place. He sure likes to drink and play cards and all the usual stuff that seamen do. Pinch my buttocks, too. Tehehe!"
  15. ~A new quest has been posted on the Quest Board (#121 by emjajoas)!~
  16. Oh yeah, there's that, too. Why do my events keep on imploding? First C.A.T., then the Tidings, and now this - even before it has properly began? I'll think about what to do overnight...
  17. "That's Hooks. Captain Hooks Caldera. Yeah, pretty obvious for a nickname, innit? Tehehe! He's with the Bonapartes, alright, but rumors tell that once he was a feared pirate. He's not exactly popular nowadays, either, but his crew likes him. Our bartender, Cuttler, hates his guts, though. No wonder, since Hooks keeps calling him 'fishfingers'. Not that I'd say anything about anyone's hands in his place, tehehe!"
  18. I was thinking the same thing, but I'm afraid it's a little late now. Or should I just restart the whole event?
  19. The problem with playing Decamon through PMs is that I don't have time to cross-check PMs from two dozen players - I have a life, you know. The best solution I can come up with is that the chosen hand would be placed in spoiler tags, but that means the opponent could cheat by peeking. We just have to trust that people won't cheat, period. And now that I see how B&B has bought himself 100 cards, for an example, I regret not placing a restriction on how many cards one can buy. The mechanics of the Decamon Drafter needs a change, as well, since there's no way the Shield-skill can summon monsters from all the cards the Drafter carries, now that some people have them by the dozens.
  20. "We're a bit full at the moment, but there's a free table over there", the waitress said, pointing at the far side of the room, opposite to where Hooks Caldera was sitting. "The officers, cadets and sailors from Fort Bonaparte do come here often, yes. We have the best looking waitresses in the whole city, after all. Tehehe!"
  21. It is a physical attack, unless the player was going for a spell, then it becomes a magical attack since it spends ether. You see, the element imbuing of the skill doesn't happen unless the player initially chose to cast a spell as their action.
  22. Shanxian saw that her bodyguards had returned, so she interrupted Lord Phang Ten. "My apologies, dear lord, but we have to continue our conversation another time. Let me just say your offer is... interesting, and I will consider it long and hard. Now I must prepare to meet the Council." "I fully understand, my lady, and I will be waiting to hear from you." The lord kissed Shanxian's fingers before backing away with a bow. "That man thinks he can take my late husband Yeong's place in my heart", Shanxian said to the heroes, not letting her face show the clear irritation in her voice. "Now, what did you find out from the vultures around here?"
  23. You can still sign up on Tuesday, the tournament will begin on Wednesday. It seems I forgot to write it down, but you cannot buy cards after the Tournament begins.
  24. Before he returned to Shanxian, Arthur decided to eavesdrop on the noble couple standing on the side. "...There must be a reason for her to be back. I'm betting the Ringfinger wants to coerce her to his side." "Ah, milady, but would Lady Ji Pei really make a worthwhile ally in this matter? Besides, both the Thumb and the Forefinger have mutual history with her. Why would she choose Ringfinger?" "He's the most open to accept foreign ideas, that's why. And after spending years abroad, I bet Lady Ji Pei is brimming with those." "We should steer well away from her, in that case. I don't want to risk our good relations with the Middlefinger, after all." "You are right, milord. Not getting invited to his tea ceremonies anymore would be a social catastrophe!" If the gossiping pair was to be believed, there was a lot of dissent among the counsellors. Maybe it would be beneficial for Shanxian to know?
  25. You can cause a tie with another 10 card. No. Each Cup will get it's own topic. Thanks, I quite like it myself as well. It's an update to the Gargoyles fought in Quest#10. Yes, you can keep any and all the cards, if you wish. Or exchange any or all of them to prizes. You can't have less than 5 cards when entering a match. In PvP matches, yes, but each player chooses their secret hand out of the deck. The NPCs all have just five preselected cards, which you won't see until they come into play. No, you can only play the five cards you chose before the match. Any won cards will go into your deck. Thank you. This game cannot be played online without trust that the other person isn't cheating. I will trust you players won't switch your hands in the middle of a match, either. Otherwise this whole Tournament is pointless. I had hoped nobody would notice.
