  1. Yes, that's exactly it. I tried posting LXF on here but not enough room.
  2. Get the LXF/LDD file above, load it into Lego Digital Designer, then go to File -> Export BOM. It'll essentially give you an Excel sheet with a part list.
  3. Just finished an LDD of subject matter ... would be nice if someone else would contribute other parts of such GBC ... http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=533483
  4. I'll trade you for a 'Hot Flame' ... 8376, barely used.
  5. Seems like a fairly new website with many lego sets. Prices are simply incredible. Are they legit? Seems 'suspicious' to me.
  6. The link is http://www.legoeduca...oss_blocks/1481 Not quite. The part I'm referring to has axle holes (cross). The one you're referring to has SMOOTH holes.
  7. The pic below depicts a new part ... yet I can't find it anywhere else. It appears to be a version of 44809 but with axle holes (non-smooth). Can anyone confirm if such part does exist and in which sets?
  8. I'm a bit surprised ... I've seen earlier reports that say there was a gyro sensor (for building a segway / inverted pendulum) ... but none in your review. Only ONE touch sensor? I'll stick to my NXT 2.0 then ... and wait for the EV3 2.0
  9. I usually separate into technic vs. else, keep the technic, and then the bionicle go into sorted bags ... I never thought I'd get much use of the bionicle parts, but then Mahjqa has a couple of mocs that use such 'rare' parts. What I'm saying is, you never know when such parts could come in handy.
  10. Mindstorms 8475 ... Buy 2, get 3rd at 90% off , special sale at ToysRUs. Finally was able to do 'platooning' experiements with bots following each other. Not sure I'd call this a bargain ... even on eBay, I try to give a 'fair' price but, you played by the rules.
  11. I'll start by saying I got my first technic sets in the early 80's (I was already a teenager, and many on here were not even born back then) ... it was a red tractor 851, a yellow forklift 950, and a dune buggy 8845 (with the spring shocks). I came back to Lego 10 years later while in graduate school, where a design course was being offered, with essentially the predecessor of the mindstorms brick. I've been on and off few times, yet some very elaborate sets (8845, 8043) exert a constant pull to bring one back into the hobby. I'm now of couse an AFOL, and spend countless hours, like many on here, with GBCs or mindstorms/technic. Now, few questions for the community: 1. What's the longest you've stayed 'away' from this hobby 2. How long have you been assembling bricks? 3. How long do you see yourself carrying on such 'obsession', into the 40/50/60 ... heck I'd be playing with my great grand-son 4. What brings you back: Memories of old legos, new sets/parts ... 5. Feel free to volunteer any AFOL 'perspective'
  12. Thank you. I got both 1.0 and 2.0 bricks to work with a USB tower. One word of caution though, whenever you're dong a firmware update, make sure only ONE RCX is ON, and others are off. Else they'll all pick up the signal, and then end up aborting and the computer gets 'confused'.
  13. I read 'mixed' opinions out there ... anyone successful at using the RCX 1.0 brick with the USB tower (that came with the RCX 2.0) ? Also, would it be possible to use the USB tower with more than one RCX brick or are those somehow 'paired' ?
  14. I just received an order from BL for few 48989 and noticed 2 'types' ... a shiny vs. a matte finish. Went back a checked my spare parts, and YES, there are few types: Glossy vs. Matte, then what appears to be production date e.g. 3-01 vs. 4-01 ... Could very well be the two molds are from two different production location e.g China vs the Czech Republic ...
  15. Makes sense now, as I was trying to zero it in with the train's power supply (big black rectangle with a yellow dial)
  16. I've been looking for more details about the GBC shown in the link below. Anyone knows if we can track the author and ask for some pics? http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=74078
  17. Thst is interesting because, as I disassembled mine, and used in another MOC, ... I later found out it did NOT return to center ... was rather painful to remove, fix, and put back.
  18. Not sure I fully understand the usefulness of such motor (relased on crawler/41999). If I wanted motorized steerning, I'd do a small motor + a clutch. The question is then: What does the servo motor really offer, in terms of innovation? or is it simply smaller packaging than M+clutch?
  19. If you've left your RCX kit sitting for a while, I'm sure many of you may have had this (unfortunate) experience. At first, I thought the remote was dead since, all attempts at changing batteries, did not lead anywhere. In fact, it was not the remote. It was the RCX brick itself which, after sitting a while with no power, had lost its firmware. The solution is really easy: connect the IR tower, re-flash the firmware on the RCX, and the remote should work again, as new.
  20. Yes, just from the succession of pics. It was fairly straightforward except for slide 52. It took some 'thinking' to figure out how the small sub-assemblies tie into the whole model. Was a fun build though. I made only one change (slide 20) as I do not have the smooth version (6542b) of the 20-teeth gear. I only have the old/toothed version (at least in my spare parts) and it is too wide for the 3L smooth tan pin. So, I used a different 20-tooth gear (94925 with axle hole) mounted on a 3L axle. I also quickly realized that the small black panels 87080/87086 are not so common on the large sets (I typically skip the small sets,,. unless they have some unique parts). The hidden/right side of the car (in pic) has white panels ... while waiting for those I got from BL to arrive. What I found rather interesting is how the new ball-joints 92910/92911 were used ... not symmetric front/rear as you'd expect on unimog/crawler ... but oriented the same.
  21. I have both 9398 and 42000, and they both came with the OLD Rims. Granted, got those sets few months back so most likely an early batch.
  22. Well, let's clarify a bit more. Some 'specialty' technic parts are rather rare in technic sets, yet come in large numbers in bionicle/hero sets. I gave as an example The witch Doctor for 92907 (http://www.bricklink...tem.asp?P=92907), Corroder for 57585 (http://www.bricklink...sp?P=57585&in=S), Bionicle Accessory Set for 44809 (http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=44809), and Skopio for many technic panels and tracks. I was merely asking the Technic 'community' which sets they felt were a good value for the assortment of technic pieces included. I'm fully aware of Bricklink and often shop there, but sometimes you get better value/assortment of pieces when you acquire the not so technic sets. So, again, what sets have you found to be a 'good' value for technic assortments (besides 8258), and in addition to those I mentioned above.
