ACC Racing Truck
drdesignz replied to dikkie klijn's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's very cool Can we get some more information about it? I notice there are two receivers. Besides driving, what is the second receiver for? -
I would certainly like to see more original creations, rather than licensed sets. I think certain designs have an unfair advantage. The recent Google Android is a good example.

It's a cool little car. And great that it's free. I've got two of them.

Very impressive!

I think it's hard to compare really, since they're two totally different things. You can buy decent hobby grade RC vehicles for around a hundred bucks. But you can also easily spend a lot more. I have an RC car that I have nearly a grand invested in. It's 1/10th scale and a race car. I also have a truck that's all billet aluminum that I have well over $1,000 in. Both were built by me, but they can only go together one way. Lego is entirely your own design, so it can be built any way you want. You can also take it apart and build new designs with it later. My large scale Lego hot rod probably cost me over a thousand bucks, too. Although, that's only because I bought several new sets and dozens of bricklink/eBay orders for individual parts. Shipping costs alone can really add up. I estimate that it could be sold at about $200 retail if it were produced by Lego. But that's just a guess. Currently there is only one Lego set that comes with the servo, which is the best option for building a drivable vehicle. And that set is $200 in the US, so you'll have to invest that much plus whatever else you need to build the vehicle you want. If you already have a decent Lego collection, then a couple hundred bucks may not be that bad because you might have what you need to complete your vehicle. But if you're like me, who just recently started a Lego collection, that cost can go much higher. Ultimately it's about what you really want. If you want to design/build your own car and are okay with driving around a relatively slow vehicle indoors, then Lego would be the way to go. If you want a high performance, tough, and fast car that you either buy ready-to-run or build as a kit, and you are okay with breaking parts, high maintenance, and purchasing the appropriate tools, supplies, and spare parts, then a hobby grade RC car is what you want. The best investment is totally your opinion.

Hot rods are fun. I had some yellow pieces left over from my big hot rod project and a few hours to kill, so I built this little one:

Brickfair was pretty cool. This year was my first time. I took a couple hundred pictures myself: http://imgur.com/a/SkTrH http://imgur.com/a/985f6

I'd really like to see a new space theme. The classic space them was one of my childhood favorites.

LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
drdesignz replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The announcement must be getting close. On August 21st they said "an official announcement will occur in a matter of weeks, not months". -
Looks cool, I just signed up. Still trying to figure it out. I tried adding a flickr bookmark, but it's saying "no images to load". I'll try again later.

Great design, I like it a lot! -
That's pretty cool. One of these days I'd like to get into trains myself.

Remote control planes, helicopters, cars, and trucks. Coin collecting. Computer building. Drawing. DVD collecting.

The latest movie I watched was Romancing the Stone. I've seen it before, years ago. It's an awesome movie. But I fell asleep about half way through this time, unfortunately. I've been working long hours lately and have been pretty tired. I'll pick it back up soon though and follow up with The Jewel of the Nile.

Are People using fake accounts on Cuusoo to Support?
drdesignz replied to Meatman's topic in General LEGO Discussion
For this particular detail, it looks like a site change was made within the last 24 hours and now activity feeds no longer show other supporters. It seems it's just comments and notices when a project reaches a certain number of supporters (100, 500, 1000, etc.). I just thought I'd point that out. Also, I noticed the "Small YELLOW" project recently reached 2,000 supporters. But the current total is a little over 1,300, so it seems the Cuusoo admins are well aware of the continuing voting manipulation and have been actively working on the issue. -
Lego technic challenge 2012
drdesignz replied to Ondra's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think this might be my next project. I should start researching crawlers and try some preliminary chassis/suspension design, since I know much more about street cars than I do offroad trucks. I doubt I could compete with some of the work I've seen from others. But it looks like a fun project. -
I used foamboard from a local art supply store and one of my table lamps with a full spectrum CFL light bulb for my latest project. It worked well, I think, and only took a couple minutes to put together. I didn't use any tape on my light box. I simply propped up the foamboard walls from behind with Lego boxes.

Where do Rare/HTF Parts come from?
drdesignz replied to Turaga of Force's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I know I don't have any super rare pieces, because my current collection was just started late last year and my childhood Lego pile was given away years ago. Most of my pieces are from current sets. I have a handful of used parts from Bricklink though. The only expensive ones are used in the exhaust of my hot rod project. At about $4 each on average after shipping costs, the exhaust alone is worth nearly a hundred dollars. They must be rare or at least highly sought after, if 24 small Lego pieces = $96. -

I couldn't find an email address for the admins. All I could find was a feedback button on the bottom of the website. I posted this there and it seems to have gone to a web forum, so I am not sure the admins will see it. If anybody knows how to get a hold of the admins please let me know.
