I'm I'm the same boat. This'll be my first chance to get one new. However, I MUCH prefer the CW Anakin and Obi. The Padme does look great though!

Lego Chima play table.
Doctor_ocks replied to Doctor_ocks's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Thanks for kind remarks guys. -I'd love to shoot a video, but we no longer have a functioning video camera. I can try with the iPhone but I suspect it'll look terrible once I upload it. I'll try though. -the speedorz run well on it but admittedly they're faster on the kitchen floor. The surface is made from some kind of textured wall covering that I picked up at Home Depot. Its got a bit of a foam feel to it, which I like because it doesn't tear up the speedorz. The best thing to do, in terms of speed, would have been to just paint the MDF board because its hard and smooth. However, I'm an aesthetic nut and wanted there to be some texture. Here's a close up of the surface just after I laid it down and had just started gluing pink foam on the sides for the rocks. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8052/8446053284_4479c18cfd.jpg My thoughts exactly. -
Great. Now I gotta get more Dino sets. My wife hates you :P

What is the schedule for the show? I haven't been able to find any air date info on Cartoon Network.

So my five year old and I have really enjoyed playing the Legends of Chima game. He doesn't know it, but I've secretly been using it to sharpen his math skills. However, I'd grown tired of chasing chi balls, weapons, and heads around the kitchen and from under the oven. Since I'm a wargamer, my son and I began using my 4'x4' gaming table in the basement to play chima on. The board is covered in glued sand and green grass flocking, which while it looks sweet, was scratching up the bottom of the speedorz and staining the wheels green. So I decided to make a special Chima/Ninjago gong table that my wife would allow upstairs. Table with sets: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8227/8439006649_ec17c69c2d.jpg Hero Shots: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8476/8440092936_7e69881240.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8504/8439008291_d1660fac33.jpg Lid: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8237/8439007827_04fdc2068e.jpg I was helping the preschool at my church throw away old furniture during a recent remodel and I kept this former sand/water table that was being thrown out. I didn't know what I was going to do with it, but it ended up being the frame for this thing. While its not a Lego creation, it is a creation FOR Lego, so I hope it'll be allowed. Comment or questions welcome.

I like the monkey mech. The legs look a bit...static maybe? But others than that its cool enough. The use of the engine parts for the nostrils is very nice.

The Earth Marshals... the next action theme?
Doctor_ocks replied to Yatkuu's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Hmmmm I don't see that. What if I created the opposite of this? What if the bad guys, The Huggers, caved in coal mines, blew up oil platforms, and defaced the outside of the modular building sets with pro-clean energy rhetoric? What if the good guys were coal miners, oil workers and small business owners who formed the 'Free Enterprise Police' - a group of Heros who take down the Huggers. Would you guys all support that? I mean come on, we all can agree that destroying property is wrong cant we? That's all my new theme is about...there's no hidden agenda or political motivation there. Granted, my new theme would make for some lame sets lol. If nothing else, the Earth Marshal theme would drum up some attention as evidenced here! This.- 39 replies

My 5 year old and I have really enjoyed these sets and playing the game. I do wish, however, that the cards were a little bit more integrated into the game. It'd be cool if the cards also allowed you to do things like make your opponent's minifig stand while racing or give you an attachment to your speedor that would enhance it in some way - Ninjago style. Still pretty fun though.

Yeah I think so too but thanks for responding in a mature fashion and not taking the arguments too personally.- 39 replies

The Earth Marshals... the next action theme?
Doctor_ocks replied to Yatkuu's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
While the sets are well designed and the presentation is great, if I saw this on the shelf I'd pass it up based on what I see as politically one-sided propaganda - "Fossil fuels are bad and so are the people who use them." To say that this is neutral and finding common ground is disingenuous. You've drawn a line in the sand and clearly labeled one side as good and one side is bad. What if the theme was reversed and the good guys were small business owners trying to provide for their families and the bad guys were portrayed as extreme environmentalists who blow up buildings? In my opinion, this theme dumbs down the argument and puts both sides in two very radical camps. The problem is reality. The idea is too real for Lego to touch with a ten foot pole. Lego sticks with fantastical stories with basic 'moral' themes that most people can get on board with - Starwars, LoTR, etc. If they do use reality, like with the city/police sets, they still use those basic moral themes - stealing is wrong, hurting people is wrong, etc. I'd also like to add that it's not the job of Lego (or any other toy companies) to provide life lessons to children - besides in the broadest of senses. That's the job of their parents and the people around them who love them. There's a fine line between teaching children HOW to think versus WHAT to think. All that being said, you and your friend are very talented. I'd enjoy seeing more ideas come from you.- 39 replies

Since its been discussed and I didn't see a pic put up here yet, here's a couple of shots for reference of the new Fierce Flyer with Hobbit minifigs. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8215/8293508522_9b9375eb91.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8492/8292455669_37e848dc99.jpg Also, since we're on the topic Gandalfs staff, he's holding a brickforge one in the first picture.

That's a really interesting question. Has there ever been something like this occurring before with Lego?

Nothing new here. Great movie and still love the sets, with the exception of the character mistake in the warg set. On a personal note, being a dad has made me appreciate the sets and the movie all the more. I started reading the book to my 5 year old son last week. He doesn't like reading but he's been gripped by the story and the Lego Hobbit sets have been a big part of it. He immediately recognizes the scenes like the goblin cave, Bag End, etc. He gets really excited and has to go get minifigs, usually Bilbo, to hold while we're reading. My wife and I debated about letting him see the movie, especially before we saw it. However, he's seen the LotR movies multiple times and loves them. They've never frightened him and never given him nightmares. So we decided to give it a whirl. He LOVED the movie and hasn't stopped talking about it. Here's a picture of him holding Bilbo in the theater http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8078/8275834983_c44da01f0c.jpg So thanks Lego :)

Give that woman a hug.

Nice inprovement to the hobbit hole! I too added just a few leaf pieces and branches to fill it out.

That's my plan. TRU has them here locally.

Gah! The wait is killing me! I have Mirkwood Spiders and Riddles but my wife has told me to wait on the others so people have something to get me for Christmas. While I appreciate this, it does nothing for my instant gratification nerve! I might bust a blood vessel if I have to wait too long after seeing the movie.

Lego Mirkwood Elf Guardian Polybag @ Toys R us

I too ended up receiving my poly bags on Monday even though TRU was showing an arrival date of 12/3. -
Would you mind showing a pic of the quiver all carved up?

I hear you. I only ordered two and picked up a third at a local shop. But I could have picked up 4 at the store for what I paid for 3...plus I'd have them all now. -
That would have been nice but I figured they weren't going to make a new mold for something that most people aren't aware of.

I picked up Mirkwood Spiders and the Ring set today at Walmart. They also had the wargs set and bagend but my keeps reminding me that I need to leave things for people to get me for Christmas :( So I'll probably wait for the rest of them. FYI the sets were not in the Lego isle. They were on a stand in a main isle. On a side note, I too received a tracking number from TRU so it looks like the orders are being honored.
