Book IV Prelude Challenge: Category B: Secrets of a Bard
Simon_S replied to Velnerius's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice one! I wanted to use that floor technique for a long time but never did it. It works so well here. Where is that printed/stickered part on the left from? This is really cool! -
This is so Mitgardian! This is awesome! I love how you used the old vikings shields. They work great for that purpose! And after the interior pictures it was a nice surprise to see that the outside of the building is beautiful as well. Great job!

Book IV Prelude Challenge A: ”The Bard of Old Town”
Simon_S replied to T-86(swebrickLUG)'s topic in Guilds of Historica
So cool! I really like how much structure you could bring in the walls. Some clever details and techniques! Also, the round floor on which the bard stands works very well and gives such a good focus on the minifigure! Great job! I for myself would like some more colours in there… lbg is very dominant in this build and breaking it up with some spashes of colour could be nice. -
Book IV Prelude Challenge: Category B: Song of an ancient battle
Simon_S replied to Gideon's topic in Guilds of Historica
Haha I love that you already renamed the tiles . They look great and you put them to such a good use. They reslly make this build beautiful! -
Thank you! I actually even put a small lamp behind the window so the light shines through it and this made it much „greener“ on the pictures. thank you! Well it was a lot of time in one day… I left the office early and finished writing the story at midnight, so it took me maybe around 8 hours for everything together. Thank you!

Thank you for the kind words Gideon! Means a lot to hear from such a talented builder :-) Thank you. The floor took quite a while, especially filling the gaps in the end so that it couldn't move anymore. Haha and the cat just laid on my desk because I didn't sort it yet and I thought it would be a fun detail if she plays with the music notes which fell down. Thank you :-). I actually used this wall technique in my first GoH build and also my first post in this forum back in 2012 . Hehe yeah I had to use some real life influence here. I know some people who play the alpine horn a lot and they will always bring them to birthdays and festivals and stuff like that. So I guess that's where my inspiration came from. Thank you! I think it might actually be the same in real life and this kind of flooring is also difficult / exhausting to do with real wood

Book IV Prelude Challenge: Category B: The Archery Lesson
Simon_S replied to bmohnsen's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice one! I really like the facial expressions - they are so simple but it looks like they're having so much fun. Great job! Why did you choose transparent eyes instead of printed ones? I also like the different NPUs in there. Using the chain as a belt is clever. As is using the minifigure fur piece for a large figure shoe fur thing (no idea how this is called hehe). The color scheme of the figures also works great. As advice I would say: The base feels really rushed. I think the figures are really good - and the base kinda is way too bad for them. Give them a nice irregular ground to stand on! The photography feels overexposed. Try taking pictures not in direct sunlight. And I took a Quick Look at your camera settings on flickr. I'd open the aperture way more (yours is almost completely closed), which means you should get down the number next to the f. and when you open it it allows for a much shorter exposure time. -

Here's my entry for Category B: Thanks a lot for organizing! That challenge was a lot of fun to build for! -
Far in the frozen north of Mitgardia, the people once lived in constant danger. They never knew what to expect next. Danger was never far. Raiding Orc parties. Wild animals. Ice cold storms suddenly appearing out of nowhere. So the hunters who lived in the harsh wilderness came up with an idea. They took a mammoth tusk and carved a beautiful ivory horn out of it. At first, it was blown only as an alarm to warn the folk of danger. But with the time, people began to play the horn because they liked the sound. Soon, its deep tones made everyone feel at home, from the poorest farmer to the riches noble. That's how the Old Tusk Horn became a symbol of Mitgardia. Today, the richest parents send their children to music school. There the old Bard Runar - with small braids in his beard - shows the children how to play the Old Tusk Horn. Carefully they carry the heavy instruments into the music room. White a lot of patience, the bard teaches them and keeps this old tradition alive. And here some flooring because it took so long Looks like I'm the first for this category, but somebody had to open it hehe . I actually didn't expect to have any time to build for this contest. But today afternoon and evening were still free and so I found some time to spontaneously build this one. It was such a cool challenge and building for the guilds again felt great. Thank you for the challenge! Now I'm really looking forward to Book 4 . Thank you for looking! Simon_S

Book III - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Simon_S replied to soccerkid6's topic in Guilds of Historica
Welcome to Mitgardia! Let's make this the best guild (again, as in the first three books )! -
I was also absent a long time from the forum and didn't see that coming. What a nice surprise! I saidly won't find any time to build something for that prelude contest but I really like what your doing here. For Book 4 I like to stay in Mitgardia.

Thank you for the kind comment :-). Yeah the mountain took a lot of time and patience. And it was kinda repetitive to build but it was totally worth it. And literally all my black, dbg and lbg bins were empty after this build. We actually took the picture at night. This whole thing was mainly built for the convention Bricking Bavaria 2023. I just finished it two days before the event and assembled it for the first time all togehter and was thinking like: yeah maybe it would be cool to have some nice pictures of it. So I called a friend who brought a light and we took the pictures late at night and the next morning I put everything in the car and went to the convention.

this is really cool - I love the castle. And the moving parts are so impressive. Cool to see them integrated to a castle build :-). I feel like the pictures will never do justice to this amazing build and I wish I could have seen it in person. So many details to spot! Nice work :-)

what a cool build! The light works so well and adds a lot to it. did you just put a lamp behind it when you took pictures? oh and just looking at the windows one could easily miss the nice mosaics on the floor. great job on this scene!

The stonework is really cool. I like that you used brackets instead of travis bricks so that the walls meet nicely in the corner and don't have that half plate offset. And you have many nice details on such a small footprint. Nice work! Keep it up :-)

Book III - Challenge 11: Trading Posts - Winners Announced!
Simon_S replied to soccerkid6's topic in Guilds of Historica
Congrats! That was a cool contest. I liked the theme of it and it was fun to build. btw a cool fun fact: the first time I built something for the guilds was around 2012 for the commerce challenge - which had a very similar theme to this one. I found the topic of it: for me it was fun to look through the builds we did back then. Maybe it will bring back good memories for you too… or if you‘re new in the guilds its fun to see how long this thing is already going on 🙌🏽🥳 -
[Freebuild - GoH 11 Overdue] Ore trading post
Simon_S replied to Professor Thaum's topic in Guilds of Historica
So cool! The build looks very mitgardian. The roof going down all the way to the ground works really well. As feedback I think it would have been cool if the detailed stonework continued all the way under the roof. That of course would require to make the roof a stud or a half stud longer, so that the SNOT tiles would fit under it. Your trees look really good. I especially like the birch trees. And what really makes this build special for me is the creative and funny story. I love the idea and the huge fat pig looks so cute! Great work! Keep it on! -
Cool build! The brickbuilt cows are cute and the stalls are also nice. And the birch trees work well. Brick on!
-
That's a pretty cool build and it's nice to see a GoH build from you ! I love the use of that star wars animal. What a cool idea! I actually have no idea how this beast is called or where it comes from... is it even from star wars? The hut looks also nice. Brick on!
-
Very cool build! It all works so well together - the roofs with the wooden and even with the green sections. The green is a nice choice and I think it's so mitgardian... it's beautiful! I also like the brickbuilt arch. The rope is a great touch to indicate that there is more going on under the building. As feedback I would suggest to add more thematic stuff to it. Right now, the only things that show that it's a mine are on the ground floor. And everything above are just normal houses... well, not normal houses. Very very cool houses . Maybe a sign with pickaxes or something like this would add some of that "mine feeling" . Anyway, this is a really nice MOC! Brick on!
-
haha thanks for the kind words :-). I think many people somehow missed it online but it's not that bad because I built it first for the convention and posting pictures of it online was just the second cool thing to do with it.
-
Nice build! Is this your first build for the guilds? I don't remember seeing any of your works before. If it is: Welcome to the guilds! I like how many animals you put in this cute build. As feedback I'd suggest to use different kind of parts for the water and the way. Having both built out of 1x1 round plates makes them kinda look too similar... maybe make the water out of tiles or put some tiles and plates on the way? Brick on!
-
Oh wow, I love how colourful this is. You put so many different colours in such a small MOC - great job! The different vibrant colours work well together. And using white as accent in every house really helps to keep the whole build together. Nice build! Brick on!
