I read it in French over 20 years ago. I haven't thought about in years. But, what I really would like to know: Where did that hair piece come from? Is it the hair from the Temple of Doom car chase? Tacitus

I really love the water detail in the fountain. Well done!

Hey, the side-by-sides were very fun to see...a sort of LEGO evolution. I never bought the original gunship, so it was cool to see how much it has changed. The older one looks really kind of pathetic by comparison... but not as pathetic as the original Slave I vs. the latest version, I suppose.

Yeah, well done! The cave detail is fantastic!

Thanks for the review. I hadn't realize that the new Yoda has hair. It almost makes up for the google eyes. I just wanted to add that I think the reason LEGO does not do number bags for SW sets is to prevent theft of the minifigures, which often are the compelling reason to buy a set- like, did you really want a Sandcrawler, or did you just want the Jawas? It would be way to easy for someone to break open the box, and pull out the number 1 bag with all the MF parts, so I think LEGO mixes it up as a deterrent.

Looks great. Thanks for the review. I have to say that I am a little disappointed that the torso of the green-dress harlot of the village is the same as the one from the pirate lass from the new pirates hideout, but I should have suspected as much. Alas. My question: When the hinged sides of the buildings come together, do they form cohesive interior, or do two completely different halves come together to make it appear like it is a whole building? For example, it looks like the stable and the blacksmith shoppe come together when the building is folded shut. That doesn't really make sense. Is the rest of the set as incongruous as that? Tacitus

First, I would try bricklink.com instead of auction sites. The AOTC Slave 1 is okay, but the shape is off, and the construction is not very stable. The more recent version of the ESB Slave I has a far superior design and construction, and it comes with IG=88, Dengar, and a Bespin officer. So, I would definitely go with that one.

What? Does this Power Miner actually have a unibrow? He is the manliest of men.

Interesting. I got the dark green crystal with my set.

Power Miners: New Sets for 2009
Tacitus replied to cartoondude's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I was just at TRU today in Wisconsin, and they had all the sets. I think they had just filled the shelf before I arrived. I love the little rockmen and the new minifigure faces, but really dislike the big green vehicles. -
Just thought I would stop in and mention that I saw pretty much all of the new Glatorian figures at Toys R Us in Wisconsin (US) today, including the small $6.99 companions. I have to say, not being a Bionicle fan, some of these are pretty cool. Especially, the scorpion guys. Good hunting. Tacitus

I was at a TRU in WI today. They had the new battle packs ($9.99), the Republic shuttle ($59.99), and the droid tank thing with Yoda (don't recall the price, though).

Thanks for the heads-up on the date. I've been wondering when the official release date would be. But I do wonder if they will jump the date and go on sale earlier, like the Pirate sets seemed to.

The DNA helix came with Spiderman set 4851: The origins. Its a set that is a great parts pack with some nice minifgures and accesories and which provided quite a few pieces for Mr Freezes lab. Victor's wife is in fact Mary Jane Parker. (cue ominous rumbling as the Marvel and DC universes collide causing all kinds of mayhem and catastophe, possibly melting the minds of some very particular comics fans). Thanks for the tip. I hope they reissue that piece, because that Origins set is pricey on Bricklink. And I did notice the Mary Jane.

Yeah, it just conjures images of the maiden dragging along the sea bottom. Horrible. :pir-skull: But as a side note, I don't think that the Troll ship, the Skeleton ship, or the Viking ship had anchors...Well, the Viking Ship shouldn't have an anchor, granted, but you see my point.

Thanks for the good review. I actually just built this set this morning. Yes, it definitely has some weight to it! And, I, too, was disappointed that the center wing just sort of drooped in position. Quite frankly, I found the build to be really disagreeable, and sometimes frustrating. My instructions seem to have bad coloration, so black pieces were colored gray. I actually thought I was missing pieces because I couldn't find the dark gray bits that were really the black bits. I also disliked the heavy technic aspect of the build. Of course, that seems to be a motif of the CW line, so I'll have to suffer, I suppose. Aesthetically, I'm not pleased with the asymmetry of the center wing. I think that they should have created a two-sided design for that. I know this is uncharacteristically gripey on my part, but this was the first set where I was relieved that the build was finally over. I think I've reached my technic pin limit.

Great creation. I didn't expect there to be an interior to the mountain, so that was a fun surprise...and I didn't expect a modular piece of SNOT for a waterfall. Pretty cool. I should also add that I like the bridge you created, too.
-
Hey, I thought all of these were lots of fun. I was really impressed by the vehicles you created. The Professor's car is a favorite, and the transforming Robin-cycle was a nice surprise. But, what I really want to know is, where did you get that tile with the DNA helix on it? I totally need that!
-
I think that the pirates are supposed to use the maiden as the anchor.

My guess is that LEGO is testing the waters, so to speak, with a small starter series with each model hitting at the usual price points in order to get a sense of market demand, as opposed to AFOL demand. New lines carry a lot of cost and risk. Be patient. I would think that the February toy conventions will unveil one or two new ships. And it wouldn't surprise me if they hit the shelves in August or July.

Hey. I didn't know it existed. I tend to be behind the curve as far as blogs/forums go. But, I'm sold. Tacitus.

Every time I see it, I am always stunned! Awesome, just awesome.

A fantastic review article. I was very impressed by the set ratings graph you presented. I think that this type of article should be a continuing publication on Eurobricks, created when a complete line of sets is available in the stores.

Totally me. I linked it to the wrong brickshelf file, and clearly didn't notice.

That's a really fun way to show the evolution of the character. Very original! Did the creator paint Anakin's hand gold, or was there a rare minifigure with a gold hand produced at some point? I don't remember that one.
