Flagships 1990-1999
Foggy replied to SheepEater's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi, voted for 3,didn't want more :) 8856, really great copter, like the all red color and the flex system as welll! So few votes here :( seems like this copter (even reading other posts) isn't so loved here :( 8868 one of the best sets ever, bought it just a couple of months ago at a good price in Germany and desperatly wanted it from the early 90's when was young. Like so much compressor and all the construction! 8859 haven't it yet (i'm looking for a good price) but saw booklet and many reviews and for all what it has is a very good set, tank and 2 differentials and fake engine.. P.s. Can't wait for the 1980-1989 flagships ;) ciao -
V2 IR Sensor

Didn't know that. I bought the 8043 a couple of months ago and when I go back home will check them 4 sure :D -
Do they understand you?
Foggy replied to Foggy's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi Folks, great to hear these various experiences from you all and nice to see I'm not alone . I really apply appreciated all your comments and i'm glad to see many of you get support from families, relatives and workmates. I don't care so much about what others say ,I'll keep collectin' and playin' with technic anyway and most people judge technic be4 see it thinking is like duplo or system. As others wrote, technic is not my only hobby so i don't put all my spare time there so i'm not obsessed by it but anyway people around me don't change their mind about waistin' money and time. Anyway i'm glad to be part of his wndf world :) -
Hi Mates, I turned 32 in june and my passion 4 lego technic started burnin' again about 3 years ago when decided to buy the old set I used to see on catalogues when was 10-12 and couldn't have and then after seeing the new sets with PF...couldn't stop and bought some new stets too, starting with the couple 8043 and 8110. Now here's the question. Do people around you, parents,g/f,wife,relatives,friends,work mates.. understand your passion for lego technic??? Sincerly my parents and most of my relatives don't and think I'm only waistin' money I could save to buy a house or something more useful in the future. Don't talk about my friends or a couple of workmates of mine who joke me sayin' I'm still a little boy and it's time to grow.. Please tell me I'm not alone out there :(((((( Ciao

MUST HAVE Technic sets?
Foggy replied to Foggy's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I like that looks like a real truck, in reality most of these truck have the crane just behind cabin and then have a flat bed or a folding bed that in the case of 8258 should be both done. I MUST agree with you as fas as the outriggers concerns.. I think to consider myself a little collector, I'm a little, little moc builder and I prefere the old style sets 80's and 90's above all. Think one day gonna post a pic of my little collection(about 25 sets from early 80's to nowadays) when I'll have enough space to keep all them build and I usually buy sets I like and sets that I consider milestones or very real replicas of the real world. But this topic was in general, just to know what other technic guys, even more expert than me, consider a must have for a beginner or for an expert as well. Ciao 9397 looks good but was perfect if it had double wheels on rear axels (and here comes dan's modifications) and the non manual fork :( I think that the 8868 is still the best. Trucks are good and very well built but don't particulary like tow ones even if i like the US world of cars,truks,planes... -
Althought i haven't any off road vehicle I think I'm gonna buy the Crawler even for the new motors, but must wait to see the price in Italy and think I'm gonna buy it 4 Xmas. As far as the copter concerns, i think I'm gonna buy it too even if I expected more realism considered that is relased about 10yrs after the 8856 that I consider the real rescue copter. Yes in the new model you can open the ramp and the main rotor movements are improved but the tail rotor remained the same :hmpf_bad: . Ciao

So You Think I can't Build?

Well well done mate! Such nice models! big compliments, looks great! I'd like the dumper with a double rear axel but it's good anyway. -
MUST HAVE Technic sets?
Foggy replied to Foggy's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I forgot the 8421 -
Hi there, as you see i just lately discover you and find this site so so interesting. As title I wanted to ask YOU what you consider MUST HAVE sets for a technic fan, refering to their functions or realism or complexity or for their importance for you(childhood 1st set or most played one..) or special parts in it contained or a particular system used to make a certain thing work in it..or other. As far as I'm concerned, I would say 8868,8043,8455,8288,8110,8258 and 8856. Ciao

I recently bought the 8868 (a dream since '92 when was 12 and saw it on lego catalogues..) and like it so so much As others, i like so much the old instruction book, in 3 steps u bild up a lot while nowadays book shouold take you about 10 or more steps to do the same ... Think this is a must set for any tehnic fan  ciao

Big compliments for your review. I'm SURPRISED noone made a comparison between the 8856 and the 9396. This is the real battle 'cause are both rescue copters! So please give me some measures of the new one compared to the 8856 ones: LENGHT 50cm (about 20in) WIDTH 15cm (about 6in) without main rotor, just frame HEIGHT 19cm (about 7.5in) with wheels down ROTOR DIAMETER 37.5cm (about 15in) I really like the old 8856 (I have 2 of them 'cause I like even the B model) and the flex system and I'm gonna buy soon even the 9396 BUT I thought lego would add even the tail rotor control to make the model as close as possible to real copters and this disappointed me I even like the 8856 all red color and think the new one would be great in all yellow as the SAR copters usually are.. Hope to hear comments Ciao

Want to start building Technic
Foggy replied to nicoga3000's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi nicoga3000, i was an old era technic guy, from the late 80s then putted technic away and a couple of years ago decided to buy sets i used to see on catalogs when was young and couldn't have. Now i have alot of sets from 80s and 90s golden period that want to keep original and not make them mocs to improve movemnts or playability etc.. With the PF models have changes a lot and to enter into this new world i decided to buy the 8043 because it's out from a while and think will be retired soon and for sure it's price will go to the stars as it's a milestone sets! I'm familiar with technic but wasn't out for a couple of years and had no experience with new parts and PF and i found easy to build the 8043, instructions are easy and even TOO STEP BY STEP... sometimes 3 steps should be done in 1 time.. So in my opinion put some good money on the 8043 and then at the end of the year or beginning of next buy the 8110 that's another great set(even if then it's better to improve it with at least an airtank..and here you'll find a great 70+ pages forum about the 8110 and all thepossible modifications..). Forgot that u'll find a lot of modifications even for the 8043 to improve playability and make all the movements separated from eachother as this one for example http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=45348 Last but not least, i consider buy a couple of 2nd hand sets to arrive at 200$ so maybe u'll have more parts, mixed pneumatic and PF.. Here in Europe u do good bargains in ebay.de (germany) where technic is so common and preatty cheap but although u live on the other side of the ocean shipping wouldn't be so cheap :( Anyway welcome to the technic world and have fun! Ciao -
Thank to you all, first i looked at them didn't see the bottom with the old 9v connector.. I'm gonna buy some of them with some spare XL and M motors to use on 8110 and 8258. Any idea about providing current (always without batteries) on the IR Remote control/s? Think should be hard..and can't do different than using rechargeables batteries :( Anyway thanks for help ;) Ciao
-
I don't understand which connector,i had a look at PF ext cab but haven't saw any PF-old style electric adapter. Can you explain me better? Appreciated.
-
Hi, I have the same doubt and I prefere the old "my time" 8868 even because the fork is air powered insted of the one of the 9397 :( and as others suggested you, I'm looking for it in ebay.de 'cause technic is cheaper there. As far as the airtank concerns, where have you putted them? Thanks Bye Flavio

Hi there, I'm new and I've got a question. I want to use the power functions without batteries.. so i want to provide current by a current trasformer, is it possible? I think to use the LEGO SYSTEM 4548 used for trains but this one has 2 wires while the power functions has 4 wires and i thought to use 1 external and 1 of the middle wires (of the 4 totals). Do you think it will workout? I would use this to use the 8043 or 8110 that i'm gonna buy. I'm open to your advises. Thanks for help, appreciated ;) Ciao
